Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WIMA Sports desk. It's week three for high
school football. Our WIMA microphones will be at Shawnee as
they won to one. Indians host to one and one
Elida coverage presented by the Apollo Career Center. Shawnee bounced
back from an opening week loss to LCC by thrashing
Kenton last Friday night, and head coach Shane Weierman says

(00:20):
his defense will have to deal with an Elida attack
that has big play capability.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
They have athletes everywhere. I mean they're still spreading it out.
I know they graduated their quarterback last year and they
have other Believe the sophomore playing in there, he's got
a big arm. He can throw the ball. I was
just watching some film earlier. You know, fifty sixty yards
in the ear so we know that there's not any
deep shots that he's afraid to take. He's gonna throw
the ball down the field. And they've made a killing
with their big plays, not just in the air. I
mean they hit a lot of big sweeps. Those are

(00:47):
things that we talked about all week. We cannot give
up those big plays, so we want to make sure
that we make them earn their yards.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
As for Elida, they dropped to their WBL opener last
week at home to Van Werd, and in order to
bounce back, head coach Kyle Harmon says his defense will
have to key on show an e quarterback JJ Spiker.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
You know, it all starts with Spiker back there. You know,
he's a dynamic athlete. He does some really good things
and he goes off script. He's very dangerous, but it
comes down to keeping in the pocket, keeping a spy
on him, you know, getting pressure, getting him off his
throwing point. But they run the football well you know
the number zero he runs outside zone. Well they showed
that against Kenton and they have some tracks beat outside.
So it's going to come down and reading our keys,
getting pressure and being gap sound.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Our coverage starts at six o'clock tonight with the Friday
Night Blitz and the game can be heard anywhere in
the world through the iHeartRadio app. Same for WAP againet
at Defiance. That game is on one oh seven five
the Big Buck. The red Skins two and o so
is Defiant, so the pair of one point wins and
in order to move to three and oh while puck
coach Travis Moyer says his team will have to handle

(01:46):
a physical defiance rushing attack.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
They've got a physical run game, You've got backs that
run extremely hard, and they've got a good upfront people.
So it's going to be a big challenge for our
defense in terms of stopping the run and eliminating yards
after contact because they do a good job of getting
yards after the contact. So the one thing we really
stressed our guys about driving for five when tackling, and

(02:09):
that's going to be really important this week.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Elsewhere Tonight in the Western Buckeye League, it's a two
and o bath at two and O Van Wert. Meanwhile,
a pair of games feature zero to two matchups, with
Saint Mary's at Salina and O G at Kenton. Linema
Seniors on the road tonight and Marion Harding looking to
move to two and one. Two and O LCC visits Kerry,
two and OH Bluffton is at Boucher Alan East at

(02:31):
one on one visits Indian Lake, Oh and two Columbus Grove.
A tough matchup tonight at two and O Patrick Henry
and two and OH Liberty Benton hosts to one on
one Macomb Big game of the mac Tonight is Marion
Local at Saint Henry. Both teams are two and oh.
The Flyers have won sixty six games in a row,
but to get number sixty seven, Flyers coach Tim Goodwin

(02:51):
says they'll have to stand up to a physically strong
Saint Henry club.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Their quarterback is two hundred and ten pounds in physical
you know, and then he has big linemen in front
of him, so just just matching their physicality. And again,
we haven't really been tested in that way at all
this year, so it's a big concern for us going
into it.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Moving to college football, a bucket update with Stelli Insurance,
Ohio state number one in the country. We'll host Grambling
tomorrow at three point thirty. We'll have it for you
coverage starting at two o'clock. Meanwhile, change is coming to
the transfer portal for college football, the Oversight Committee voting
yesterday to move to a January transfer window and he
eliminate the spring window. The new proposal would outline a

(03:35):
ten day transfer period that opens the day after the
college football playoff quarter finals are completed. A final vote
is expected before October. NFL last night, the Eagles beat
the Cowboys twenty four to twenty and the kickoff to
the season. Both teams had to overcome an hour lightning
delay in the third quarter. There was drama after the
opening kickoff as Jalen Carter spit on Dak Prescott and

(03:57):
was ejected from the game. Philly quarterback Jalen Hurts rushed
for two touchdowns in the win, and afterward head coach
Nick Sirianni said, Hurts was the difference in the ballgame.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
And I know that it will say that we threw
for one hundred and fifty two yards. What's going on?
Why didn't we throw? But Jalen played really efficient and
really good and from what I from what I saw
and made plays both with his legs, with his mind
and with his and with his arm.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
More NFL action Tonight a rare Friday night game. It
will be played in Brazil as the Chargers take on
the Chiefs. The baseball Reds begin a big series with
the Mets tonight. It's a three game set. The Reds
trailed New York by five games for the final National
League wildcard spot. Tonight's pitching matchup Andrew Abbott against the Mets.

(04:41):
David Peterson and Tampa The Guardians lost to the Rays
four to two in the opener of that four game
set despite home runs from Jose Ramirez and Kyle Manzardo.
The Tigers are back in action tonight, hosting the White
Sox with eleven fifty wy MA Sport. I'm Todd Walker.
