Speaker 1 (00:06):
Well, welcome into the bonus chapter. I'm Lisa Donovan. I'm
here with producer Riley. It's our Saturday edition and we
are going to talk a little bit about Ellen Hildebrand
because I had an opportunity to sit down with her
for Quincy's four hundredth anniversary. We kicked off the celebration
with Ellen Hildebrand at Granted Links this week and there
(00:28):
were over five hundred people there.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Riley, I saw all the pictures on your Instagram. It
looks like a good time.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
It was amazing. The crowd was amazing. Ellen is always
a great interview. She has so many amazing stories. So
when I spoke with Ellen last summer, we went to Nantucket.
We took the book club to Nantucket and we went
to Dreamland Theater and we met her with like fifty
people from the book club and we were discussing Swan Song,
(00:56):
which was her final Nantucket novel. But we were also
talking about Out the Perfect Couple, which is one of
her novels that was optioned by Netflix that has turned
into a show. And she had this to say.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I knew in January that Nicole Kidman had signed on.
So Nicole Kidman is playing career. And then I got
the cast list on March tenth of twenty twenty three,
and it was Leev Schreiber as Tag Dakota Fanning, Megan
Faiy from The White Lotus, and Eve Houston who's in
Bad Sisters, but who's also of course Bono's daughter.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
As the lead.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
And the cast honestly, you guys, goes on from there.
Every single person you will recognize it.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
There are no bobos, all right, So that was the
Perfect Couple one. So I mentioned that I spoke with
Ellen this week and she gave us some insider information
on what's happening with a Perfect Couple too.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I'm so excited for a second season if there's going
to be one. I'm so excited because that was like
a summer phenomenon.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
It's show so bingi and so good. So I can
definitely say, based on our conversation that there will be
a Perfect Couple too, And Nicole Kidman will be executive
producing again. Sean Levy from Stranger Things will be involved
in the project. And then she mentioned a woman named
Susannah Bear who actually did the first Perfect Couple. She's
(02:19):
also on the project new cast though, and she said
that The Perfect Couple too, will be based on Swan Song,
so it's a completely new story. But the fact that
Nicole Kidman is still involved in Sean Levy is amazing.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Yeah, because they were like iconic in the first one.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
They were. She also told me that the woman whose
house was used for The Perfect Couple, it's in Chatham.
That's where they filmed it to make it look like Nantucket,
and then they did some like you know, filming on
Nantucket to kind of like which they put it all together. Yeah,
but it was filmed on Nantucket, I mean filmed in Chatham.
(03:00):
Out of the blue. She said. The woman who owns
the house called her this week because she thinks, you know,
she would be open to meybe having her house used again.
It's a lot when you rent your house out, and
I guess after the first time, she had told Ellen
that she was done. Yeah, I'm not gonna They're not
going to use my house again because it was so much.
(03:22):
But who knows. So Ellen was like, I don't know
what's going on here, so who knows where it will
be filmed again. Ellen also mentioned that Jennifer Garner has
signed on to play Hollis in The Five Star Weekend.
It's coming out based on her book The Five Star Weekend,
(03:43):
and she said that that show on Peacock will be
filmed in Los Angeles, not on the East Coast, on Nantucket,
not in Chatham, because Jennifer Garner wants to stay close
to her kids.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
That makes sense.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
I feel like for all these, like others, it's probably
hard to be away for that long.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Absolutely, I mean you could move your whole family here,
but it's probably just easier if they do it in
LA And then I think they're going to do two
weeks on Nantucket, she said, doing some filming.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
That's so cool.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Did she give anybody like else who actors that might
be in it?
Speaker 1 (04:17):
She said, it's another like all star cast. Okay, just
like the Perfect Couple, which is so exciting for her.
I mean, Ellen is just a magical person, like she's
has such a role model, a great mom, she's a
breast cancer survivor, a great writer, just good community person.
So yeah, I love talking to her. Anne. I have
(04:39):
to say, I put her on the spot and I
asked her if she would do Lisa's Book Club, and
she said absolutely. The Academy, which is her book that
she wrote with her daughter Shelby is coming out mid September.
So we're looking for a big event with Ellen that
you guys can all look forward to early fall.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah, that'll be so fun because you've only done like
one really big one and that was so good. The
turnout was amazing. I feel like it'll be like fun
to do another big one totally.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah. She was my first really big one that we
did at Memoir at Encore. Yeah, so we'll see more
details everybody follow.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, gonna blow it out everybody. I feel like, what's
gonna happen with The Perfect Couple, Like the second season
is what's happening with White Lotus where they're getting these
like incredibly stacked casts because everybody just wants to work
on something like this, And I feel like the way
that The Perfect Couple the first season like blew out
of the water, it's gonna happen again.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
I feel like yeah, and I feel like, well, she
actually told us too that remember Leeb Shreiber was in
the first one, and she said that originally it looked
like it wasn't going to be him because Nicole Kidman
is very good friends with Naomi Watts and Naomi Watts
was with Liev and they had kids together, so at
(05:58):
first they thought, wow, is this going to be a
conflict because Naomi and Leah broke up, but then he
was eventually signed on the project. Yeah, but you're right.
I think that these like huge, you know, ensemble casts
like really do make it. And I know Netflix loves
it to be like really glossy, really hip, so that
(06:18):
I think that that will continue.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Because it drives people in, Like people want to see
this crazy cast like work together, So it makes sense.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I feel like that's cool.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You were saying that Ellen had won't make a cam
or wouldn't make a cameo in the first one. Did
she give like any insight about that for the second season? Right?
Speaker 1 (06:37):
So she she wasn't in the first one, And then
I asked her this week do you think you would
do a cameo in this one? And she's like, I'm
not going to rule it out. So that's good. Maybe
she's open to it this time.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
What if she asks you to make a cameo?
Speaker 1 (06:50):
I don't think she will. Riley, You're so cute. Oh,
I would totally been great. I'd be like a woman
riding on a bike like like a little cobblestone street
that's to be Nantucket, or like.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Laying like out on like a towel and like a
KINI like reading a book.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
You're like reading an Ellen Hildebrand book.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
No, that would be so funny.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
I would I mean, I'm gonna watch it anyways, but
I would be watching it like with my eyes like
so close to the camera, like or close to the TV.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Like waiting to see you. I'd be like, I think
it's Lisa.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
I think it would be quick.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Yeah, but like how cool would that be if you
were like I had a cameo in there, I'm in
the Perfect Couple of season two?
Speaker 1 (07:28):
That would be really fun.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Oh my god, I love that.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Okay, So, speaking of movie or book to movie slash
TV show adaptations, do you have an all time favorite?
Speaker 1 (07:41):
I do. It's The Notebook, So Nicholas Sparks. Actually, weirdly,
when I first started here at Kiss, we did a
book club event and I hosted a dinner where we
had we all read the book and then we went
to see the movie together. I mean this was like
fifteen years.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
It was like Lisa's book club pre leases.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Book Club's like yeah, it's so funny when I think
back to that. But yeah, I think that that book
and then what they did with that movie is phenomenal.
I think it's still in my top three movies of
all time. It was just so beautifully shot. Everything was perfect,
The cast was perfect.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Amazing, right, And I think it's so I would think
it's so funny that Rachel McAdams was doing that movie
at the same time that she was doing Mean Girls,
Like I love that as that diversity, right, one of
like the most like amazing actresses of our time. I
feel like, do you have a perfect sort of book
to movie or TV show? I think that The Hunger
(08:41):
Games will always be like top top tier for me.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
I agree with you. I loved the book and the show.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
The most incredible.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
And don't you think again, how they cast Jennifer as
the lead was just perfect.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
It's like the best casting.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I know that a lot of people think that she
looks too old because she's not sixteen, obviously, but like
the way that she embodied catness. And Josh Hutchinson for Peta,
he's like he is Peta. Nobody else could have been
Peta the way that he was.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
I agree, and I think that her her character had depth,
and her character had wisdom beyond her years. So that's
why I thought the casting did work.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
She's so fun as like a narrator too, because she
is kind of like an unreliable narrator where you only
get her side of it. So I know a lot
of people think that it's like a Gail versus Peta
sort of thing, even though we know from Catus that
it's never been Gail. It was always Peta the entire time.
(09:49):
And then to see her like finally make this like
conclusion like, oh, I'm in love with him, like in
the second book while they're fighting for their lives, and
then the end of the second movie where you see
Cattness's face like go from like scared to like worried
to like fierce.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Like when she's being lifted up by like the crane.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Iconic, iconic writing, iconic.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Movie making the cinema.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, it was really Stanley Tucci. I just that speaking
of a.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Good cast, I mean, I love that cast the entire thing.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
What did you think of Liam Helmsworth.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
I well, I'm okay about him. I'm indifferent.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
I don't care. The one. Yeah, it could have been
somebody else.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
That's I completely agree with you, Like he's just like
he's whatever.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
To me, it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Their relationship wasn't as believable as I had hoped.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
They don't have the same chemistry that Josh and Jennifer did,
so I feel like it was like seeing the two
of them and then seeing the Catenus and Gale relationship.
It's like, Eh, it's not living up to what Jennifer's
giving with Josh. So I understand what you're saying about that,
but everybody else.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Nails it on the head and that's a good choice.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I also love Daisy Jones and The Six I know
we've talked about that.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Okay, that show was so perfectly cast. I kind of
obsessed with that show.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Riley Keyo. I had never actually watched anything with her
in it before that.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I hadn't either, but that Love Triangles, I was obsessed
with it. It was so believable. I couldn't wait to
get home and watch another episode.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Me too.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
I watched it with my best friend Sonny because she
also read the book. We read the book together and
then watched the show together. Every week that it came out,
we got together to watch.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Is it Sam claflin place.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Okay, I love him, my mom, he's like my mom's
like huge crush me too.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
I'm right there with her.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
He's just he's so beautiful.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
It was just so believable, right, amazing him and me
before you don't even get Oh, it's the one where
spoilers ahead. It's the one where he has an accident
and it becomes a paraplegic and then he ends up
dying at the end after him And it's the girl
(12:12):
that plays Danaris Targarian.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
I forget her name, drawing blank, but she's in it.
Amelia Clark. You should watch that.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
I just spoiled the whole thing, But you should watch
that movie that's also based on a book.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
But like it breaks your heart that.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
One, Well, anything Sam Claflin's and I'll watch.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
I completely agree.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
And he's in The Hunger Games, so like coming full
circle totally. But one thing that I love about Daisy
Jones and the Six is that it must be so
hard to make original music based off like music in
a book, and they did create.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
A crazy job. They did well. She's Elvis's granddaughter, so.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
True, yeap that that the entire album for that like
was played in my car with Sonny, like for months
and months and months we were obsessed.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah, I just there that like love like just love triangle,
like just knowing that you love someone but you can't
be with them them. Yeah, you can't have them.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
It's never gonna work.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
So edge of your seat stuff, like if you haven't
if you guys are listening out there, if you haven't
seen it, definitely binge it because it's so worth it.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
In the outfits because the space set in the seventies, right,
so he'sies.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
The outfits are so cute. I love Riley's bangs in it.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
She looked beautiful and so did is it Camille Moron?
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yes, yeah, beautiful, beutiful. She used to date Leo DiCaprio
or really I didn't know that. Yeah, for several years.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
He's older than her significant.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
I mean that's his and then she changed out and.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Yeah, no, durn't turned twenty five.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
You're so hot even, I mean she was gorgeous in
Daisy Jones, absolutely gorgeous.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
The way that he had chemistry with bowl of those ladies.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Yeah, in two different ways, right, yeah, yes, that's just
the perfect way to put it. Yeah, I'll never get
over that scene of when Riley is singing the River
and she's like on drugs, so like incredible, incredible cinema.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yeah, go watch it.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Go watch it. It's very like a star is born
with like Honey Gaga and Bradley Cooper, that same sort
of like tension but around music, yeah, and song and
they're singing with each other. If you liked Yeah, if
you liked The Stars where You'll love Daisy Jones.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Anyway, well I think we should get rappening. But thanks
for joining us. All right, my interview with Charlemagne is dropping.
You don't want to miss this podcast. Our interview is amazing.
I hope you enjoy it.
