Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hey, Lisa Donovan here with producer Riley, and welcome into
the Bonus Chapter Saturday edition. And we're talking about books
that we read over vacation, right.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Right, Yes, So I've been reading a lot, but I
want to know you've been working on a ton of
stuff for the book club lately.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
So are you reading something for the book club right now?

Speaker 1 (00:22):
So Jeff Benedict is coming up, and he wrote The Dynasty,
the book that was turned into the docuseries for Apple TV.
So I watched the ten part series when it came
out last year, never read the book. So I'm halfway
through and you forget what the Patriots were like when
Tom Brady first started, and all the drama with Drew
Bledsoe and when Belichick was brought in and how he

(00:43):
was brought in and all of the you know, the
behind the scenes stuff about why he chose Brady over Bledsoe,
And so I'm like really in the thick of it
right now. So I cannot wait to talk to Jeff Benedict.
And then the other book is just a beach read book.
I mean, I went to Mexico briefly, I came back
to do the Charlott Mane thing. But I read the
Emily Henry book A Funny Story. Yes, did you read that?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
I've read that one.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
What did you think about it?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I love all her books.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I know that I've said this on this podcast before
that I love her, But something that I just love
about her specifically is the way that she writes her
female characters are so relatable and like the way that
they love books, and I love books, so I'm always like, oh,
I can relate to you guys, but her men are
just so real and you fall in love with every
single one.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
I have to say that I was thinking about you
when I was reading it, because there were moments where
I literally was laughing out loud at some of the
things that she had written for one of her characters.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Right, She's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
The way she writes her banter is just so if
we ever get her on the show, I already know,
whether it's a call or in person or whatever, if
I'm on the phone with her, I'm gonna be like,
before you go on, just real quick, I wanted to
say that I really really love you and all the
things like that you write about are You're amazing And anyways, okay,
I'll put you in all the light. She'll be like, Okay,
who is she crazy fangirl?

Speaker 1 (02:01):
But you're right, Like her writing style is just so
genuine and ian floey and I really enjoyed funny story.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
So have you read any of her other stuff?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
No? That was my first?

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Okay, Yeah, my.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Favorite is Beat Read and Book Lovers because the girls,
both of the female characters in it, I relate to
the most, So both of them in different ways.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I was like, oh my god, this is like me.
So when you read those.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
On the Lee character, she worked in a library and
she dealt with all the little kids and it was
really sweet.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah, she's amazing.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
I just finished the Hunger Games prequel, the new one
that just came out Sunrise on the Reaping.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
So good.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
So it's Hamich's story. I won't get into it too much.
It literally came out last week while you guys were
on vacation. That's what I did Saturday. All I did
the entire day. I read the book and I made
semon roles. That was all I did. That sounds like
the perfect day, but it was amazing. All her books
about the Hunger Games are amazing. So if you got
onto it definitely read. I think it's already being made

(03:02):
into a movie too, I'm sure, and her movies are amazing,
so but I wanted to say that you just have
been honored. Recently on the show tell Us Billies, we had.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
A Nissa A Sabi George on the show this week
and she surprised me and she comes out. I didn't
know why she was coming in. We love having her
on the show. She works with Big Sister, but she
was she came in for the Boys and Girls Clubs
of Dorchester and then she announces on the show The
Billy and Least in the Morning show that they're honoring
me as like Woman of the Year this year, and

(03:38):
it's I guess it's for someone who goes above and beyond,
so like you're ready to do stuff that you do.
They mentioned the book Club, which I've been so excited
about and also just about young women and mentorship. So
I was able to visit the Boys and Girls Clubs
of Dorchester and I walked through all of their different
buildings and facilities, and I went into where they had

(03:58):
the pool and where they do all there like after
school studying, and they've got a really cool three d
printer there and I met all the kids. It was
amazing and I'm so honored that they even thought of me.
It's the first time I won anything in my entire.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Life, So the way you were teering up on areare
so deserving of this?

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Honestly, like I do what I do to do it
to be the best person I can be for our
listeners and for everybody here. And the book club was
strictly to just get our listeners together and get them
talking about stuff that they wanted to talk about and
meet each other and make connections. And it's happened, and
we've raised so much money for raising a reader. So

(04:40):
I honestly it's been just a fabulous couple of years
and I'm so happy that they took notice. So the
Gallas May thirteenth, you can buy tickets. There will be
individual tickets. They're selling sponsorships right now. If you're interested,
just go to the Boys and Girls Club's website of Dorchester.
You can find out all the information. But again, the
Gallas May thirteenth, I think at the Seaport Hotel.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
I just want you to know. I don't think you
realize the impact you have on people.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
You are I look up to you so much. Got
no like in radio and outside of.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Radio, you are this amazing woman who I'm so happy
that I get to work next to you.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
I feel this way about all of you, but like
recently we've been spending so much more time together.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
It's been really fun, and I'm just like every day
I am so in awe of you. I look up
to you, and I want you to know that you
do make an impact on everybody. But like even I'm
telling you right now, you deserve this award. You make
an incredible impact on me personally. So I'm just glad
that I get to work with you. I'm glad you've
been honored.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
This is amazing, very nice words. Thank you very much,
And I hope that you guys all come to the
gala because you're gonna love meeting all of the kids
that go to the boys and Girls clubs. And I
love that what you said. But again, it's just like
we just do what we do, you know, and we should,
and I know all of us feel this way. We
get up every single day and we try and put
on the best show we possibly can for all of

(06:06):
our listeners. And I think if you start there with that,
you're gonna be good.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah right, you're just putting them first every time. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I agree. Real quick, I just before we wrap up,
what do you think is something that has come out
of the book Club that you didn't expect, Like now
that you've been honored, is it this?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
I think so? Right? Yeah, I never thought that.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
I know.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I think it's just like the impact it's had on
people's social lives. Like the women that first started with
the book club, I call them the ogs, Like they
are now very good friends with each other and they
meet up every time we have one. It's something that
they look forward to. And for me, that's like what
it's all about.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, and you make friends with all these people that
you don't normally get to see because you're behind the mic,
but like going out and you get to meet these people,
you're becoming friends with them.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Right, We've all sort of I've expanded our circle. That's
what I always like to say. And I think that
as you, I mean, you're very young, but I think
in life like it's good to just keep expanding your
circle with people that you really like and people that
you enjoy being around, and you have a common shared interest. Yeah,
and you'll have a love for books. Yeah right, and
there's and that's like the best thing ever. So yeah, yeah,

(07:20):
And I have to say another thing I'm surprised about.
I'm actually really enjoying reading because I have to tell
you I have been reading a couple of years ago
because you know, you're busy with young children all that
kind of stuff. But I have to say, it has
been such a great thing to just plow through all
these books and I love every single one for different reasons,
and I feel more connected and I don't know, it's

(07:41):
been great.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
You're like, wait, this is more fun than I thought
it was going to be.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
It's right. Reading is like so calming because it takes
if you're having a bad day or whatever you think,
you know, life is like out of control. It just
really settles you down.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
It's a good way to unplug.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, it really. And it's it's you know, you're not
looking at a screen like I. I actually like an
actual book. So I don't do kindle, I don't do audio.
That's just my thing. But yeah, I just it's like
a very It really does. It calms me down. Yeah, anyway,
so that's it.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yeah, that's it well.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
I hope you enjoyed the bonus chapter with producer Riley
and I. Coming up, we have the author Jeff Benedict.
He wrote The Dynasty, he wrote the Tiger book called Tiger,
He wrote Lebron and so many more. And he is
at the book club and we can't wait till he
already has to say
