Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hey, welcome into at Lisa's book Club Saturday edition, the
Bonus Chapter. I'm here with producer Riley, and we had
a really fun show this week on Billy.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
And Lisa in the Morning.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
We really did.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
We had a great topic about movies that were made
in Massachusetts that were based in Massachusetts, because the jumping
off point was that Jaws is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary
next week. So it got us talking like, what are
our favorite film in Massachusetts movies? And then we thought, well,
let's take it one step further and how can we
connect it back to books? And there are so many

(00:40):
great books that were written by New England authors that
were turned into major movies. Now, we didn't talk about
Dennis Lahane on the show this week, and I can't
believe we didn't mention Dennis Lahane because he did Gone,
Baby Gone, he did miss a River and Shutter Island,
to name just few. Yeah, Live by Night was another one.

(01:02):
But I know that for a fact that Misterick River
was one of Billy's like most favorite movies.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
I think when He's too Yeah, Like a lot of people,
I saw a lot of talkbacks of people saying that
they loved that movie.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, I mean, Dennis Lahane is iconic. I'm trying to
get him for Lisa's book Club. He had another engagement
already scheduled that he couldn't do our book club. He
wants to, so we're going to get him.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
It'd be iconic.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, he lives on the West Coast, but we're going
to try and time it. You know, maybe at the
beginning of next year. We will get him because I
know he's doing a lot of TV show projects now,
he's executive producing a lot of things. But we will
get him for Lisa's book Club. It's a huge mention
for all of his work and all of the movies.
Another one who we've had at Lisa's book Club but
actually gave birth to Lisa's book Club with me is

(01:50):
Ben Mezrich and our one of our most favorite movies
of all time is The Social Network, and that was
based on one of Ben's books, and then and also
Bringing Down the House was also one.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Of Ben's books. It was based on.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
The mit kids who went to Vegas and they were
counting cards and all that kind of stuff. The Social
Network The Facebook movie was based on Ben's book The
Accidental billionaires now rally. I have to ask you, did
you see the social network I have?

Speaker 4 (02:21):
And I think about that quote where Andrew Garfield's character
is like, sorry, my pradas at the cleaners along with
my whatever backpack.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
And my f you flip flops.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Iconic totally and it goes viral on like social media
all the time. I see that quote all the time
and I watch it every time because it's so iconic.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
And also the clip of if you would have invented Facebook,
you would have invented Facebook?

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yeah, exactly, So many good quotes and movie justin Timberlake
is in the movie God Yeah, and he's the one who.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Was like, it's dropped the th It's just Facebook.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yep, yeah, so good.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
And the other book I've already forgotten, the one that
you just mentioned about the counting cards in.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Vegas bringing down the House.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
I love that movie. Yeah, I actually didn't even know
that was based on a.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Book based on the book bringing Down the House, but
the movies called twenty one bringing Down the House.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
So good, so good.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Now, little fun fact, my sister went to wealthy college.
She was really good friends with all of the real
mit guys that were counting cards and when the book
came out. In the movie, we had Jeff maw in
studio with Ben Mezrich and he was friends with my
sister when they were all in college together.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Wait, that's so cool. I know kiss one a wait,
connection there totally.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
And one of his best friends is at my sister's wedding. Yeah,
and they're all still kind of loosely connected. It all
turned out fine, like they's gonna be start doing yeah, okay,
good to completely banned. They could not go to Vegas
casinos because of the fact that they were doing such
a good job counting cards.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Imagine being that smart.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I know, like I couldn't never next levels, It's insane.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, I want to keep going because we have to
talk about legally Blonde.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
So ell Woods goes to Harvard.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
But we actually got a talk back from a listener
that we're going to play for you with some really
cool insider information.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
So fun facts about legally Blond. Reese Witherspoon never came
to Boston to film in the original line. What happened
was my best friend and former sister in law was
her body double. So all the scenes you see is
actually my former sister in law mil just a little

(04:37):
fun back, have a great day.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
That's so interesting. I never knew that. I thought that
Reese would have come here.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Their editing is insane, insane.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Fun fact about Jennifer Coolidge. She was just seen at
Steele and Ryan Milton a few weeks ago, and I
heard through the grapevine because I live in Milton that
she lives somewhere close to Milton and she goes to
Steele and Rye all the time.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Huh yeah, maybe you will run in.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
She has some connection. But she was, you know famous
Bend and Snap.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, I legally won Betty Snap.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Another incredible iconic movie is from Lisa Genova, who did
My book Club twice.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We love Lisa Genova.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
She's a like, just an incredible person, incredible speaker, incredible writer.
She wrote Still Alice and it won the Oscar for
Julianne Moore for Best Actress.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Iconic Iconic.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, I mean the list keeps going.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Stephen King, Okay, I mean come on, they're running me
yep Cujo, I mean, goes on.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Did you see Kuja?

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:36):
God, I haven't seen that movie in forever though.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
That's what I got to go back and rewatch because Honestly,
I know I've seen it, but if you asked me
anything about it, I wouldn't know a thing.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
You know, a thing the House of Sand and Fog Another, Yeah,
that's an older but he's from here.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah, so there are so many Wait.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Also, you were saying that thing about the faultnar Stars.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yes, okay, so fun fact about the Fault in Nar Stars.
It's actually set in I think like Indiana, but it
is loosely based on a girl from Quinsy. So Hazel
Grace Lancaster story about young love and cancer may take
place in Indiana, but the book by John Green was

(06:22):
first inspired by a girl from Quincy.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
John Green is one of like my OG's because he
had all of his big books when I was in
like middle school, and I read like every single book that.
I still have a lot of his books on my
bookshelf actually, because they're so like iconic, I don't want
to get rid of them. But The Fault Narstars definitely.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Oh that was such a good movie.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
The movies.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
I don't know if this is a hot take or not,
but I like Shalne Woodley as an actress.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I do too.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Okay, I don't know why.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
I feel like sometimes people don't really like her, but
I'm a big fan.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
I am too. Actually, I think Billy doesn't like her.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Okay, well take his opinion to art. Really, did you
like the movie Fever Pitch?

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I was actually gonna bring that up.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Yes, I think it's corny as hell, but it's kind
of just like fun.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
It is cute. You can mean it's a base bamble,
I'm gonna say, you can be honestly say.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
And Jimmy Fallon, I mean, come on, I see. I've
been a big Drew Bowrymore fan, but I do like him.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Seeing young Jimmy is always just so funny to me
because I don't know, he's just he's so, he's just Jimmy.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
I don't even know where I was going with that sentence.
It's just funny to see him be a young person.
But at least so you started all this with Jaws,
And I remember the first time I ever watched Jaws
because I took a like a film class in high school.
I hadn't watched Jaws until I was in high school
because I was scared of the sharks, so I had

(07:51):
to like watch it. We watched it in this big
auditorium that we had. There was genuinely maybe twelve people
in this class. And shark movies get me scared. So
we're sitting with my feet like up on the chair,
being like, there's a shark beneath me.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
That movie literally is one of the scariest movies still
for me. The score, it's the it's the score, it's
the silence, it's the music.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
It's the fact that it could happen.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Yes, sharks well really exist and it has happened.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
I know.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I have to tell you.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
When I was little, we went to Universal Studios and
we went to where like how they actually filmed it. Okay, yeah,
it's it like jumps right out at you.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
I remember seeing videos of that actually kind of recently,
which is funny.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, the shark like animatron.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
And you're in like this little boat and then it
just comes right out of you and you have no
idea I would be screening. I blood curdling screens totally.
But I have to do a shout out to Remy.
She owns a store on Charles Street. She owns one
on Nantucket.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
It's r. E.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
M Y.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Go to Remy creations dot com. She has the most
iconic shark sweaters for sale, perfect for the fiftieth anniversary.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
I bought one.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
I'm telling you go get your shark sweater. If you're
traveling anywhere in the world, someone will come up to
you and comment on where did you get your sweater?

Speaker 2 (09:11):
So great one.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, well this was fun, like so many iconic books,
iconic movies.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
We love talking movies.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Yeah, this was like, this is a really fun topic.
So I hope you guys enjoy
