good thing to address. And we've got some great information

(01:24):
no interest financing with approved credit if you call and
schedule your appointment by one o'clock today. So Kat, before
people get too engrossed in, you know, all the things
of Saturday, let's make sure they're you know, caught up
on their health. So we're going to talk about tonight
is today? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yes, we are. I think it's a great topic because
it's something a condition that many people have, but yet
they don't know much about it. So today the show
will live up to its name, and we will be
listening and we'll be learning, and mostly about tonight. We
all know that our world is changing, and of course
(02:06):
the world was once a much quieter place, but now
we have, you know, in our environments, we have heavy machinery, explosives,
you know, whereas years ago, maybe the loudest sound someone
might have heard was the crack of thunder or a
waterfall or a baby's cry. But today we do live
(02:30):
in a bit of a noisy world, with sirens and
car alarms and gas pumps talking to you, and cash
registers and all these other noises in our lives that
kind of invade our day to day lives in our community,
and noise pollution is an issue. In addition to maybe
(02:52):
causing harm to our ecosystems, it also affects our sleeping habits,
our stress levels, and our heart health. And we just
need to know that those sounds can over time cause
some issues with our hearings, which in time can also
(03:13):
bring along tonightas. And we're going to talk about a
couple of things about tonight this first before I kind
of like get into what it is, and you know
what it's all about, is that an estimated seven million
adults and about fifty million people in Okay, I'm sorry,
(03:38):
seven million adults in England, which I'm not sure why
we're focusing on England. Let's switch to the US. About
fifty million in the US have tonightas, and studies show
that tonightas can have a huge impact on mental health
and quality of life. People with Tonight's score significantly higher
(04:01):
on the depression and anxiety scale and much lower on
self esteem and well being the general population. We also
know that Tonight's was recognized as a common symptom of
COVID nineteen and long COVID. They found that a systematic
(04:23):
review of studies demonstrated a link between COVID nineteen and
tonightas it estimates that the prevalence was about fourteen percent
or fifteen percent of people who had COVID nineteen then
also developed tonightis. And I did you know kind of
in that timeframe have people come in and mentioned that
(04:47):
to me that they were experiencing it afterwards? And I
find it interesting now that research is showing yes, that's
exactly what happened. They weren't, you know, just kind of
made that or it wasn't just coincidental. So Tonight's, which
can be thought of as an internal noise pollution, is
(05:10):
the number one disability suffered by our combat veterans, and
it affects at least one in every ten American adults.
And even though so many people suffer from it, a
lot of people don't know what Tonight's is are what
they can do about it. So let's kind of get
(05:31):
in the ins and outs of it. But before I
do that, we you know, it's Saturday, It's going to
be a busy day. The Hawkeyes are playing today. You're
going to want to pick up that phone and give
us a call by one o'clock. And Danny, I'm going
to let you give everybody the information.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Oh yes, the phone number for Concept by i we
Hearing Centers, and I would love you to take this
complimentary hearing evaluation. It is so helpful and if even
if you're at a point where you're like, well, you know,
I'm over forty, but my hearing seems to be really great. Hey,
set your baseline so you know where you're at. It
(06:10):
is so easy to do. Just call Concept by Iowa
Hearing Centers and again it's a free hearing exam eight
seven seven six three two thirty six ninety. That's eight
seven seven six three two thirty six ninety. Or you
can go online. Iowa Hearing dot com is their website.
That's Iowa Hearing dot com. Once you book by one
(06:33):
o'clock today, then you qualify for the promo, which is
two hundred and fifty dollars off per device on any
series package and twenty four months no interest financing with
approved credit. It's a great promo. I don't want you
to miss it, So make sure you call contact Concept
by Iowa Hearing Centers for that free hearing exam and
(06:56):
make it make it on your your list of things
to do by one o'clock today. Kat Klower is a
hearing instrument specialist with Concept by Iowa Hearing Center. She's
the one that gave me both of my so far
hearing exams at Concept and again they're great, they're easy,
they are very thorough and absolutely something you should consider doing,
(07:18):
especially if you're forty or over and have not had
that hearing exam for a while. So talking about tonightis today, Kat,
and it is such when you have tonightis, it is
just such an irritating thing.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
It can't be an irritating thing, yes, you know, and
it's it can be constant, so you know, it's a
good topic. Tonightis comes from the Latin word to near,
which means to ring, and really what it is it's
a perception of bound for which there is no actual
external source. And I tend to say tonightis. But in
(07:58):
case you've heard it pronounced tentatives, both are appropriate. There's
now a right or wrong way to pronounce it. Many
people describe it as ringing in the years, but it
can also sound like humming, buzzing, pulsing, whistling, cicadas, locusts.
(08:21):
So Tonight's is not a disease. It is actually a
symptom of damage to your auditory processing system. And as
is the case with hearing loss, noise exposure is the
number one cause of Tonight's, regardless of age or gender.
(08:43):
So you know we've talked before on the show with
noise induced hearing loss, we tend to lose those high
frequencies first, and along with that or a symptom of that,
is often Tonight's. There are a few other causes of Tonight's,
and I'll quickly go over those. Of course, we know
(09:04):
the number one is damage to the auditory system, but
TMJ disorder, jaw problems caused by teeth grinding can cause tenitis,
chronic neck muscle tension, autotoxic or ear damaging medications, chemotherapy
(09:25):
COVID nineteen. As I mentioned, circulatory problems, high or potentially
low blood pressure, sleep disorders, and blockage of ear wax
or a blockage in the ear due to ear infection.
And when I talk about blockage of ear wax or
(09:49):
something in the ear, just remember when you come in
for an evaluation at concept by Iowa Hearing Centers, we're
always doing an otoscopic exam before we do the test,
so we're going to be looking in your ears, making
sure they're clear before the test is performed. So if
you have Tonight's and you think, gee, I don't know
(10:12):
if maybe it's a blockage in my ear or if
it's due to damage to my auditory system, it's easy.
Just you know, schedule that hearing evaluation. We'll figure it
out one way or the other. And an important thing
to know is stress is also linked to the severity
of Tonight's. Patients often report more intense symptoms in times
(10:36):
of stress and anxiety, demonstrating that Tonight's can be more
of a neurological condition as well. So when people have Tonightis,
it can come and go, it can be constant, and
it can be heard in one or both ears. So
what is actually happening is in the ear, we have
(11:00):
these little tiny hair cells that act as sensory receptors
and they detect the little vibrations of sound waves and
the environment, and prolonged exposure to loud sounds damaging damages
these cells. And the way I like to think of
it is these hair cells function almost like a field
(11:23):
of grass or a lawn of grass, and every time
you hear like a sound, it's like the grass is
being stepped on. And I like love this analogy because
I think anybody living in the Midwest, you know, imagine
you're green, maluscious lawn, like at the end of May.
You know, you walk across the lawn and those blades
(11:46):
of grass just pop back up behind you. Now we're
mid July and we haven't had rain for quite a while,
and the grass is dry. You walk across the lawn
and you're stepping on those blades of grass. But now
they're not popping back up again. They've actually broken off.
(12:08):
And that's what happens to those sensory hair cells in
our inner ear as they become damaged. And nature and
our brains does not like gaps, and we have created
a gap in our hearing, and our brain fills that
gap in and it creates this noise called tonightis because
(12:32):
it's filling that void. So those are kind of the
ins and outs of what is happening with tonightis. And
as you mentioned, Danny, I'm going to mention again, if
you have not had your hearing tested since grade school,
you haven't had a test in the last five years,
you're aged forty or older, you're experiencing tonightis you need
(12:55):
to pick up that phone and give us a call
by one o'clock today.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
There's nothing more important than keeping your hearing healthy, and
so that's why we're here. So Kat, yes the phone
number four, Concept by Iowa Hearing Centers and the free
the Complementary Hearing Evaluation eight seven seven six three two
thirty six ninety. That's eight seven seven six three two
(13:22):
thirty six ninety. Their website is Iowa Hearing dot com
Iowa Hearing dot com and the promo that you qualify
for two hundred fifty dollars off per device on any
series package and twenty four months no interest financing. I
(13:43):
love that with approved credit. Of course, if you call
and schedule that appointment by one o'clock today with Concept, Now,
that doesn't mean you have to run down and have it.
I mean, come on, there's a Hawkeye game today.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
So.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
You don't want to miss that. No, it just means
to have it on your calendar by one o'clock today
to make that call and get it scheduled. So please
do that, and you know what, in the meantime, let's
talk more about tonightas with kat klower our hearing instrument
specialist with concept by Iowa Hearing Centers, and it is
(14:15):
truly something cat that I experience from time to time
being a musician and being around loud sounds. There's nothing
like being in a completely quiet area just after that's
going on, because it just helps to calm everything down.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Yes, you know, while no cure actually exists yet for tonight's,
there are things we can do to help hush that
constant tone. Because of the association between tonightis and hearing loss,
the use of hearing aids is very effective to mass
(14:53):
symptoms and prevent further damage. Is highly recommend it, So
I tell people if you're at the point where you
have hearing loss that needs to be treated with hearing devices.
About eighty percent of people who have tonightis and treat
(15:14):
their loss get relief from their tonightis with the use
of the hearing devices. So again there's no cure, So
while you're wearing them, you're going to be getting them relief,
But when you do take them out at night, the
tonightis is still going to be there. And really, how
does this work? Hearing devices increase the range of sounds
(15:37):
you hear in the external world, which in turn reduces
the distraction of the internal noise. So an easy way
to put it is that your hearing aids are bringing
in sounds around you and it's essentially masking the tonightis
sound that you hear. And in addition to this concept,
(16:00):
hearing devices like our new Spear product that's featured today
includes advanced settings for tonight's therapy. So if you're in
that twenty percent that doesn't get relief from just wearing
the hearing devices alone, we can activate something called a
(16:20):
tonightis sound generator, so it's a specific masking sound that
will help calm your tonitis. So there are a lot
of things that we can do for you to help.
Of course, the first step is you need to give
us a call and get your hearing checked. But you know,
(16:40):
as you're listening to me describe this and you're saying, Okay,
maybe I have hearing lotus, maybe I need to be
treated with hearing aids. But what do I do at
night when I take them off and my tonightis returns.
When you're not wearing your hearing devices at night, you
can use a saw to background noise like a sound machine,
(17:03):
or you know, some people actually run a TV or
radio because they're trying to master tonight so that they
can sleep. Butter, another thing we can do is eat
a healthy diet and exercise, reduce our stress levels, limit
our caffeine intake, and of course avoid loud sounds and
(17:26):
remember to wear hearing protection when you're around loud sounds
so that you don't have that exposure and then your
ears are just ringing constantly for the next couple of days.
And I think anybody who's been around fireworks or explosives
or a loud rock concert or any concert has maybe
(17:47):
experiences in the past, and of course that's just a
sign that maybe you've done a little damage and you
need to step back and let your ears rest in
some quiet. And if any of this sounds familiar, uh,
pick up the phone, give us a call by one
o'clock today and get that on the schedule. As you mentioned, Danny,
(18:10):
I'm not going to be in the office today. That's
going to be at the Iowa game right on Bute,
I will be going back to work, so we can
find a time that works well with your schedule. Just
pick up the phone and give us a call by one.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Yeah. The number four concept by Iowa Hearing Centers eight
seven seven six three two thirty six ninety. That's eight
seven seven six three two thirty six ninety. The website,
which is a great resource. You really should bookmark or
have it like right in your browser from time to time.
It's so great to catch up on some of the things,
(18:43):
some of the topics that we learn here, and just
an overall view of what Concept by Iowa Hearing Centers
really are and some of the great people who work there.
Iowa Hearing dot Com Again, bookmark dot it's a great resource.
Once you call or get online and schedule that appointment
by one o'clock today, you qualified to receive two hundred
(19:06):
and fifty dollars off per device on any series package
and twenty four months no interest financing with approved credit.
Again if you call and schedule by one o'clock today.
Kat Klower are hearing instrument specialists with Concept by Iowa
Hearing Centers. Talking about tonights, I do know that tonight's
(19:30):
can be just it's just such a frustrating thing to
have in your ears. It literally can drive you a
bit bonkers if it's going on for too long, which
is why after a show I like to just have
so much quiet. And I also, taking your advice, have
a sound machine that I run at night when I
(19:50):
sleep so that I don't ever have to be bothered
with that annoying sound. I hate it.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yes, And you know, vote for people who have they understand.
You know, maybe you're busy during the day and you're
not noticing it as much, and it's good for your
ears to be in a quiet environment, but then you've
noticed tonight is more so that sound therapy or sound
(20:17):
machine really can give you relief. So you know, if
you've experienced that, you can understand how hearing aids, if
you have hearing loss, also give people a lot of
relief because they're bringing in sounds from your environment that
you're not typically hearing and essentially masking that tonight is
so that you get that relief you're kind of searching for.
(20:41):
And you know, just a reminder for everybody listening. Modern
hearing aids, you know, our new hearing aids concepts, hearing aids,
you know, great technology. These are not hearing aids of
yester year. They're lightweight, there very discreet, they're easy to use,
(21:04):
they're rechargeable, they have Bluetooth connectivity. Sometimes even I'm amazed
on what I'm connecting people's hearing aids to via Bluetooth.
Recently I connected someone's hearing devices to their metal detector
(21:25):
because it's a hobby they really enjoy. And what is
really nice and it was kind of fascinating for me
to see in the office is metal Texas can be
pretty loud. You know, the beep beep, and then when
you get right over the metal, it beeps louder. I
didn't really know that much about them, but once we
(21:46):
got it bluetooth to his hearing devices. He has a
very severe loss. He was so excited because he could
hear it really well. And his wife was really excited
because and she didn't hear it. So if they're like
out for a walk together, she's enjoying the piece and
(22:06):
quiet and the nature, and he's enjoying trying to find
the treasure. Yes, so you know, and of course add
concept by ioway hearing centers there were there to support you.
We're going to do all the Bluetooth piring for you.
Paarro it to your phones, demonstrate how to use it,
(22:27):
pair it to your two way radio at work, pair
it to your metal detector, parrot to your iPad whatever
it might be. You know, don't worry if you don't
know how to do that. That's what we're there for,
and we're there to support you. So, you know, just
great technology. And you know, the other thing to remember
(22:49):
is that our hearing aids are technologically sophisticated and they
target only those frequencies you have t with and amplify
appropriately at each frequency. So basically, they're customized for your
hearing loss per year. I always think of the audiogram
(23:14):
or the completed hearing test as like a prescription for
your hearing devices, So they're customized for you specifically, and
just great things to know. And Danny, I'm gonna let
you give them the promo one more time and then
we're going to come back and I'm actually going to
(23:35):
end the show today with I have a little hearing joke.
Oh I love it.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Okay, perfect, Okay. Here's the promo. Two hundred and fifty dollars.
That's two hundred and fifty dollars off per device on
any series package and twenty four months no interest financing
with approved credit. You've got to call and get scheduled

(24:02):
which is easy when you pick up the phone at
eight seven seven six three two thirty six ninety or

one o'clock today, so you qualify for that great promo. Okay, okay, Kat,
I love a good joke, so yes, I'm all in
(24:25):
