Industries building today.

I mean, I'm telling you, where did the time go?
That fair went so quickly.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
It did, what beautiful weather, some record attendance. It's been
a great year.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Absolutely. Now, just to make sure you have this written down,
put it in the front of your brain. Phone number four.
Concept by Iowa Hearing Centers is eight seven seven six
three two thirty six ninety again eight seven seven six
three two thirty six ninety or you can go to
their website Iowa Hearing dot com. That's Iowa Hearing dot com.
(00:59):
Either way, you can schedule that complimentary hearing evaluation, which
you are going to want to do because you would
qualify for the promo. It's a once one time only
like once a year that they do this. It's a
state fair promotion where you choose your savings four hundred
and fifty dollars off per hearing device on the C
(01:25):
and the M series concept hearing devices, okay, or three
hundred and fifty dollars off per device on the S
series up to twenty four months of zero percent interest
financing with approved credit. But again, for all of this,
you must call and book that hearing exam by one
o'clock today and schedule it to lock in that discount.
(01:47):
It's got to be scheduled by the end of September.
Ok So that gives you some time, but don't wait
because you'll forget. I do it all the time. It
ends up being the day of and I'm oh, no,
I forgot to do that. So let's not wait. Make
sure you get it scheduled today so you can take
advantage of that. Okay, kat, Let's find out more about
our health and hearing today.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yes, so we're going to be talking about high frequency
hearing loss. It's the most common type of hearing loss,
so I think it's what resonates with most people. So
I just want to get some information out so people
can understand the symptoms and what happens when we have
a high frequency hearing loss. And we most importantly need
(02:31):
to remember that hearing loss has an impact on our
quality of life. It's associated with a number of health issues.
It's associated with accelerated cognitive decline, depression, poor balance that
puts people at a greater risk for falls. And we
(02:54):
need to remember that hearing loss is a burden not
only because you can't hear properly, but because it affects
other aspects of your overall health and compromises your quality
of living. And I think the biggest thing is most people,
when they lose their hearing, they start to lose those
high frequencies first, and it is how hard to self diagnose.
(03:19):
People with high frequency hearing loss have trouble hearing sounds
in the higher frequencies, which is generally two thousand to
eight thousand Hurtz range. And when we talk about speech,
this typically means our consonant sounds most particularly s is
(03:41):
in sam, h is in harry, athison, frank, thh is
in think, and k is in kite. All of these
sounds become harder to hear, and adults with high frequency
hearing loss may have trouble understanding female and children's voices
more than male voices. Because they speak in the higher ranges,
(04:04):
they can have difficulty hearing those birds, insects, high pitched
beeping coming from a microwave, or of course turn signals.
Speech can seem muffled, especially when using your phone or
in noisy situation, and people with this hearing loss often
(04:26):
feel like they can hear but have trouble understanding. And
I would say some easy signs that someone may be
struggling with a high frequency hearing loss is one that
they have tonightis that ringing or noise in the ears.
That is often a symptom of a high frequency hearing loss.
(04:49):
If you notice that people are using their speaker phone
on their cell phone, that is also usually a good sign.
They're having trouble hearing on the phone, so they move
to speakers so they can utilize both their ears. They
may also state that people are mumbling because they're not
(05:10):
getting the clarity in those consonants. They feel like people
don't talk clearly. But we need to realize that, you know,
things happen slowly over change or slowly they slowly change
over time, and it may not necessarily be that people
are mumbling, but that you're hearing may be slowly changing
(05:34):
and you're not picking up on that. And we need
to remember that it is recommended to get your hearing
checked starting at age forty for both men and women,
and then every five years afterwards. Those of you who
have been part of Listen and Learn Listening over the
(05:54):
years know that CONCEPT has gone to the Iowa State
Fair on yearly basis. This is our biggest event of
the year and we want to share that with our
WOC listeners. If you haven't been able to make it
out to the fair, we are going to offer that
state Fair promotion to the listeners today and this is
(06:17):
only going to be given today and these evaluations need
to be scheduled by September thirtieth to lock in that price.
And I also want to remind people that at CONCEPT
we always have that forty five day trial with one
hundred percent money back guarantee. That's we have a lot
(06:40):
of things that we offer that you're not going to
see in other clinics across the state of Iowa. And Danny,
I'm going to have you share that state Fair promotion
with the phone number and how they book so they
can lock that in today.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Oh yeah, and again kat Is so right. It's why
I love Concept by Iowa Hearing Centers so much much
because they offer so much to their clients. I would
say their family members, because you become part of Concepts
family when you get that hearing exam and you become
a client, so they will help you with your hearing journey.
(07:16):
And you're going to get started by having that free
hearing exam. Yeah, free hearing exam. The promo that Kat
was talking about, it's when you book that free hearing exam,
all right. The promo is there once in a year
state fair promo where you choose your savings. You could
receive four hundred and fifty dollars off per hearing device
on their C and M series, or you could choose
(07:40):
three hundred and fifty dollars off per device on the
S series hearing device or well, and I should say,
and you're going to get up to twenty four months
zero percent interest financing with approved credit. Here's what you
do to qualify and get this promo all or go
(08:01):
online and book your complimentary hearing exam by one o'clock
today with Concept at eight seven seven six three two
thirty six ninety. That's eight seven seven six three two
thirty six ninety or again at their website Iowa Hearing
dot com. That's Iowa Hearing dot Com. You've got to
call today before one and you've got to have it
(08:22):
on your calendar by September thirtieth to receive that great promo.
So it is it's definitely worth maybe putting off until today,
but do not let it slip away from you today.
Make sure you get that scheduled. So Kat Klower is
our hearing instrument specialist from Concept by Iowah Hearing Centers.
(08:42):
And we've been talking about high frequency hearing loss and
I do when you say mumbling and all that, my
mom used to always say, when you point your finger
at somebody, there are three pointing back at you. So
a lot of times it's not everyone else, it really
is you. And you should take that to heart when
you're talking about high frequency.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Yes, definitely, and kind of before I get back to
the high frequency, I want to talk a little bit about,
you know, why should people have their hearing screen. You know,
we know it's recommended in the medical community to get
those baseline hearing tests, but in reality people have not
(09:24):
taken that step. So if that alone is not enough.
We have some other uh talking points for you to understand.
So let's talk a little bit about the cognitive health
when hearing loss goes untreated. Okay, And I want to
bring this up again because I had this UH. I
(09:48):
had someone in my office this week for a test
and they said, so hearing loss, uh, you know can
cause dementia, and I had to kind of reiterate not necessarily,
it's untreated hearing loss. So if you're treating your hearing
loss with hearing devices, that's not the case. But if
(10:12):
you have hearing loss and you're not treating it or
you're not addressing it, you're not aware of it, you
become two to five times more likely to develop dementia.
And in addition to that, wearing hearing devices can slow
the symptoms of dementia by up to seventy five percent.
(10:34):
And when we talk about how hearing is related to
balance and increases your risk of falls, untreated hearing loss
can triple your risk of falling. Untreated hearing loss also
speeds up the aging of our brains by four years.
(10:55):
And again that's untreated hearing loss. And I'm like, I
don't need anything speaking of my aging brain by four years.
I think naturally it's going to do it on his oone.
I don't want any think pushing it along. Make sure
you're coming in for those regular baseline hearing tests. Workers
(11:16):
with untreated hearing loss who are regularly exposed to high
noise levels are nearly four times more likely to be
hospitalized for work related accidents. You know, we need to
be aware of our environment, and you know, when we
have hearing loss, you not only have that increased risk
(11:37):
of falling, but you're not as aware of your environment
as well. If you smoke are regularly exposed to secondhand smoke,
you are twenty percent more likely to have a hearing loss.
A body mass index of twenty six or higher increases
(11:58):
your risk of hearing loss by up to about twenty
five percent, and osteoporosis increases your risk of hearing loss
by up to forty percent. Call today schedule that complementary
hearing evaluation. If you have not been tested in the
last five years, you have not been tested since grade school,
(12:21):
you need to call and take advantage of this once
a year promotion. And if you're listening today and you're
thinking this would be great for a family member who
lives somewhere else in the state, you can take down
this number and call and get them scheduled in a
clinic near them. We have a location again in Aimes, Cedar, Rapids, Clinton, Corraville, Davenport, Dubuque, Grenelle, Marshalltown, Oscaloosa, Pella,
(12:54):
Pleasant Hill, Waterloo west of Moines. Danny, I'm going to
have you give them that promotion again, and everybody grab
your pen in paper so you can take down the number.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Yes, the state fair promotion. This is once a year,
so don't miss out on this today. Choose your savings
either four hundred and fifty dollars off per hearing device
on the C or the M series, or three hundred
and fifty dollars off per device on the S series.
(13:27):
Now you're also going to receive up to twenty four
months zero percent interest financing with approved credit. But you've
got to call and schedule that complimentary hearing exam by
one o'clock today to lock it in. You've got to
also have it scheduled by September thirtieth. And here again
is the number eight seven seven six three two thirty
(13:49):
six ninety eight seven seven six three two thirty six ninety.
You can even go to the website Iowa Hearing dot
com if that's more convenient, that's Iowa Hearing dot Com.
But absolutely get it done today so you get this
great promo. I just can't express it enough. If you've
(14:11):
been saying to yourself, Oh it's I'm fine, I'm fine,
I'm hearing fine. But you're over the age of forty
and you haven't had your hearing tested. How about you
know for sure you're fine. Go in and have that
complimentary hearing exam, and then again if you have some
hearing loss. It's a great promo. You're out nothing, okay,
(14:31):
So go in and have your hearing tested. Concept by
Iowa Hearing Centers, and of course kat Klower, who is
enlightening us today and I love it. Spent so much
time out at the fair. I'm glad that you're back
here at least chatting with us until you go back
out today. But Katklower is with Concept by Iowa Hearing Centers,
Hearing Instruments Specialist.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
All right, so let's talk a little bit about some
causes of high frequency hearing loss, because it is the
most common type of loss and the number one reason
is noise. I think this should not be a surprise.
More than ten million Americans have suffered irreversible damage due
(15:15):
to noise induced hearing loss. They're about thirty to fifty
million people exposed to dangerous noise levels on a daily basis,
and damage can occur as the result of a like
one time loud exposure to noise like a gunshot or
explosion explosion, but mostly it occurs over time with constant
(15:40):
exposure to noise that's louder than eighty five decibels. So
you know, just in general, those loud sounds lawnmower, leaf blower,
follow becoming of all those leaves coming down, anything that
you're doing that's gonna that's loud that it's going to
(16:01):
take more than fifteen minutes. You need to be protecting
your hearing. Another reason why people have a high frequency
hearing loss is just normal aging. Hearing loss that occurs
as a result of aging is called prospicusis, and this
(16:22):
is a slow process that usually affects both ears equally,
and it makes it difficult to notice. One of the
first signs is that people are having trouble understanding speech
in noisy environments, and the other thing to remember is
(16:44):
it is difficult to notice when we don't hear something.
We don't know that we're hearing it, So it's other
people who may be noticing it and pointing out that
to us. And don't discount them. Just you know, make
it easy on yourself, make it easy on them, you know,
(17:04):
come together and both get your hearing checked and then
you know, knowledge is power. I always say. Another cause
of a high frequency hearing loss is genetics. It can
be family history. Being a type two diabetic puts you
at a greater risk for loss, and typically it's a
(17:24):
high frequency hearing loss. Phototoxic medications, some over the counter
and prescription medications can also cause this condition, and some
people have what we call Manure's disease. It affects our
inner ear and often occurs between the ages of thirty
(17:45):
and fifty and it can include fluctuating hearing loss, tonitis,
and vertigo or intense dizziness if you're not sure what
vertigo means. So all of these things are that can
lead to high frequency hearing loss and the best thing
to do is just have your hearing screened on a
(18:07):
regular basis so that you can catch it early. It's
better to treat hearing loss sooner as opposed to later,
get ahead of it rather than behind it. Once we
have some changes that happen with our hearing and our
brain as well, it's hard to kind of reverse those changes.
So that's why everybody is really advocating for those regular
(18:32):
hearing screenings. And again, I'm going to be out of
the Iowa State Fair today. Today's the second last day
of the fair. I'll be in the Varied Industries Building.
We have a booth by the west entrance. And then
today is the last day that our big Blue bus
(18:52):
will be here, so that is between Gate eleven and
the Food building on the west side, and you can
go over there and get your hearing screened. We just
do a quick screening to determine whether or not that
you need to come in for our hearing evaluation. So
if you know you're going to be out at the
fair today, head over to the Big Blue Bus if
(19:14):
you'd like to get that done. And well, we will
have concept staff here again tomorrow. That'll be the last
day of Iowa State Fair in the Varied Industry's Building.
But most importantly, whether you can make it out to
the fair or you can't. We're offering our WC listeners.
(19:36):
That's state Fair promotional pricing. This is one time a year.
This is today, and it's calling it and getting in
on the schedule before the end of September. And Danny,
I'd like you to give them those details.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Oh my gosh, I love to give them the details.
Like if you just tuned in and you're like, ooh, ooh,
the State Fair promotion? What is it this time? You
know it's always good. It is. Choose your savings four
hundred and fifty dollars off per hearing device on either
the M or the C series, okay, or you could
(20:12):

fantastic pretty much every day out at the fair. I've
(22:12):

want you to be missing out and those wonderful sounds
and joys of life. Make sure you're hearing at your best.
Give us a call and schedule that complimentary hearing evaluation.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
I often think about that high frequency hearing loss in
the fact that children and women have that high frequency
and you know, just to miss the sound of a
giggling baby, laughing kids, or hearing you know, like your
grandkid is behind you and they're saying, hey, I love
you and you can't hear it. Oh my gosh, it
(23:20):
just makes my heart hurt. So don't let that be
something that happens in your life. Just I mean, simply
have a complimentary hearing evaluation with Concept and make sure
you're addressing that hearing loss. So easy. Just call them
at eight seven seven six three two thirty six ninety.
That's eight seven seven six three two thirty six ninety,

Fair promotion which is once a year and it's huge savings.
You are able to choose your savings of either one
(24:04):
or four hundred yeah, four hundred and fifty dollars off
per hearing device on the C or the M series,

up to twenty four months zero percent interest financing with
approved credit. Again, here's the thing, you've got to call
