(00:00):
Live from Fremont's Street Experience in fabulousdowntown Las Vegas. It's the podcast that
celebrates our city. This is livingLas Vegas. This is where I would
normally come in with some semi wittyintroduction to tie into the theme of what
we're talking about today. But afterfour or five days off and an incredibly
(00:22):
busy Monday and Tuesday here, Igot nothing because nothing waiting for this one.
I got nothing. It's Ojoe fromninety five to five to the Bowl
Eisin Toni from ninety three to onein the Mountain. It feels like we've
already worked a week after you getlike some time off like that, re
entries brutal am I wrong? Isit like that for everybody where? Leading
up to the long holiday weekend, you've got an a lot of extra stuff
to do, and then come rightout of the holiday weekend, you've got
(00:44):
a lot of extra stuff to do. Yeah, yeah, And you know
it's fine. I know what's comingin a few weeks, and that's a
lot of downtime, and I'm goingto power through with everyone else and get
there. That's true as quickly aspossible. But we have a lot going
on here in Las Vegas, whichis a great thing to talk about.
There's so many holiday things. Eventuallywe'll see it at the full potential as
they continue to tear down the fone stuff, which feels like that's moving
(01:07):
a lot faster than advertised. Haven'tbeen over there. I did see that
they're putting the trees back out infront of the Beilagio like they had all
new trees they were ready to plant. Wow, well that's cool. I
didn't know that was happening. Youknew they had chopped down all those trees,
right, I didn't know they wereputting them back so quickly. On
social media. I saw a bunchof trees in their planners. You know,
when they're transporting tree, they getthe little right, they get the
planner, the the tree is in. They had them all ready to go
(01:30):
and replant. I think that's whatthat was for. Great. I'll have
to go over there and see wherewhat the progress is. We're going over
there later on tonight so we couldcheck it out. We're gonna go see
what's I always mess up the nameof this ceircuit. I want to say
the way you pronounce it is mystaircircasilates the celebrating thirty years of miss Stare
at Treasure Island. So we're goingto go check it out the original Cirque
(01:53):
show in Las Vegas thirty years. It sounds like based on that timeline,
sure it's a Treasure Island, soshout out the t I with the parking.
Yes, it seems like the onlyplace left on the strip with that.
So that's that's another win. Andthe kids are going so they're excited.
Nice. Yeah, So we we'regonna talk about all the holiday things
here in this episode. But firstthere's a lot of sports happening in town
(02:13):
too. What isn't happening here right? And you know, let's not forget
we're like two and a half monthsaway from a Super Bowl. Oh wow,
I mean that really hasn't even sunkin fully yet. It really hasn't,
and we haven't even begun to seewhat that's going to look like as
it comes into focus. But thisweekend a lot of college football offerings here
in town. You've got the MountainI'm going to make sure I say this
(02:34):
right, Mountain West Conference championship withUNLV and my quote unquote alma mater,
Boise State. Did you go toBoise State. I didn't, but I
stayed on campus for a couple ofyears when I lived in Boise and kind
of became an honorary. I don'tknow the student of that school stayed on
campus. That sounds interesting. Maybeit's for something other than this podcast,
but I'm curious. You weren't inan attendance at the university, but you
(02:55):
were living on campus. So Iworked in radio and all my roommates went
to BSU, so that I justkind of adopted that is. I didn't
go to college. So I waslike, well, this is kind of
where I spent my college years,so I'll just say I'm a Boise State
alone there to go. Wait,so you didn't go to college there,
you just lived on the campus.Yeah. People get honorary doctorates all the
time. I'm going to get anhonorary I didn't, but it's coming.
(03:17):
Wait, and did you ever payany tuition to the university? The rent?
Does that count the university? Howdid I not know that? And
can you say Boise one more time? Boise there's no z in Boise Boise
Boys. Yeah, that sounds true. Wich is probably why I'm not allowed
to go to the game, becauseI'd be rootten not for UNLV for that
one. Yeah, Mountain West Conferencechampionship this weekend. It's a game we
(03:38):
didn't even know we were going tohave till last weekend when the computers decided
who won this uh, this conferenceand UNLV just what a season, historic
season, the best season they've hadin decades, and so for them to
finish it off with this and thenthere'll be a bowl game after that for
this team. A nine win teamgets a bowl game, so cool.
But to win the conference championship,Nobody predict that they'd be in it at
(04:01):
this point. I think some peoplethought Boise State might be a contender for
it all. Sure, so it'llbe a tough game. Boise State's always
a challenge, but UNLV has shownthis season they can beat the best in
the conference, so it's time todo that again. It's funny that it
was a three way tie with SanJose State being the third team who beat
UNLV last week, but the SanJose gets the boot because of the computer
(04:21):
in the way that works. Now, did it Was it gonna be at
Allegiance all the time? Was thatalways the case? No, it's the
conference champion or the team that finisheswith the best record in the conference hosts
the conference championship. So so thecomputers got together and decided they wanted to
have it in Las Vegas. Thecomputers are taken over. What do you
(04:41):
guys mean by computers Like, I'mover here? The hell ai decided who
won the division because it was itwas a three way tie, and so
they decied not only dude, whowas going to compete in this champions I
know, right, but also whereit was going to be. In those
computers they liked the party in gamble, So yeah, I think that's part
of it. Although the criteria wasset up well in advance so that there
were all these tie breakers and thingslike that factored into it and interesting,
(05:03):
and it came out with Vegas ontop by percentage points. Now the casinos
have already put a warning out toall the computer counters to stay away from
all the tables, so that's notgoing to be in play. Here's one
of the things that you can lookforward to at Allegiance Stadium if you're going,
is it's going to be a bigBoise State crowd. And sure,
here's part of the problem with UNLVtaking on Boise State and UNLV's football programs.
(05:28):
You know last twenty years, isthere aren't a ton of UNLV fans.
There are a ton of Boise Statefans. Boise State has had some
of the best in that conference. It has maybe had the best national success
in the last twenty years. Soit'll be an interesting crowd. It'll be
a lot of Boise State fans.Love to see you NLV fans show up
(05:48):
and declare we're here for this seasonand we're here to follow this team in
seasons going forward. But right now, the fan bases, I mean,
the Boise State fan base is justbigger. And then Friday, do you
have the Pac twelve Championship? Isit the championship? Yeah, it's Oregon
State, Oregon versus Washington, whichwe match. It was gonna be an
(06:09):
incredible game, should be two ofthe best teams in the country. Huh.
There are national you know, titleimplications on the line. If Washington
wins, they're definitely going to,you know, the playoff, the National
College Football Playoff. If Oregon wins, they're probably going to the college football
Playoff. Even with a loss.Their one loss was to Washington earlier in
(06:29):
the year. Over the last threefour weeks, Oregon has looked like the
better team. So PAC twelve isgoing to go through a lot of changes
here after this season. This wouldbe a great final game with the PAC
twelve as we know it. Oh, this is the last year of the
PAC twelve. It is, Iforgot about that. Yeah, there's a
lot of there's a lot of uncertaintywith what the remaining teams will be looking
(06:50):
like going forward. Well, livingin Oregon, I'm rooting for OSU.
Different team. Those are the covers. These are the Ducks. Beavers didn't
make it. No, this isthe Dusk the Ducks and the Huskies.
Oh right, Yeah, I wasborn in Washington, so I'm going to
say Huskies on that one. Eitherway, that's going to be an incredible
(07:10):
game. There'll be a fun gameto watch. That's the Marquee game Friday
night. I didn't realize it wasFriday, So I mean the national television
story will be you know that gameFriday night? Yeah, five o'clock.
Are these games? Both of thesegames? Are they games that are going
to be sold out at Allegiant Stadium? I think the PAC twelve Championship has
been sold out for months really, and the next game, right the Saturday
game, the Mountain West Championship,I doubt it sells out. Tickets are
(07:31):
available, they're reasonable, They're likethirty bucks if you want to go watch
those two teams play again, thatgame wasn't scheduled for that stadium until last
week. Like, we didn't knowthat stadium was hosting that game until last
week. The PAC twelve Championship's alwaysbeen at Allegiant Stadium. That was the
plan from the beginning of the season. So well, that's you know what,
seventy thousand people. It's a goodinflux of people from out of town
(07:53):
because that's not local crowd. That'sgoing to be people coming in from Washington
and Oregon mostly. That's right, awesome. Well, well looking forward to
this sports fans who want to gosee it, But you're right, mostly
it's fans of those two teams.Yeah. I got two friends driving from
Oregon to come check out the gameon Friday. I'm surprised I haven't had
more friends hit me up asking abouttickets. The seriously seem to be a
thing when something big like that happensin town, I know. So that's
(08:15):
happening this weekend. Raiders have abye week, so you know, if
we're about losing their bye bye andthe Nights will be home Saturday, you're
just discounting the Raiders. I getit. They lost so the Chiefs,
and they lost badly, but theyhung in there for the first half of
the game. It was it wasa game, and a lot of people
didn't think it was going to beeven close. I think the Chiefs were
double digit favorites in the home stadiumfor the Raiders. The Raiders have been
(08:39):
playing so good. I got tokind of like where they're headed and the
way they play the game. Butthey were outmatched in that one in the
second half. So you're right, though the first half they look pretty neck
and fourteen point lead that game, right, and they started out with the
first two scores, So there's somethingto be said for that. But I
thought with Taylor not being there thatmaybe this would be another lot for them.
(09:00):
But just going to say, theChiefs and champs, and they could
be champs again this year, that'show good they are. I think it's
I think we're gonna see repeat Chiefsand Eagles again. Might be obviously,
we have our favorite teams that we'renot talking about in that discussion. We
do. But the Lions content you, thank you. I mean, my
team's further out in the hunting bothof yours. But yeah, that's I
(09:22):
think it'd be safe as safe betto say Eagles and Chiefs and the Super
Bowl again this year. But Ithink that we want to bet. I
don't. I don't, I don'tknow. I don't think them. Yeah,
I'm not in because I do thinkthe Lions have a chance in the
NFC forty nine ers. Don't countthe forty nine ers out. They may
be one of the best. TheNFC has, I think the best competition
for Super Bowl appearance. At theAFC, it sort of just looks like
(09:45):
it's the Chiefs and everyone else andI'm not sure who's going to challenge them.
Okay, a fair point. UhSo, no Raiders this weekend.
You do have the nights back atthe Fortress. Finally, we need them
off the road because this has beena brutal struggle bus road trip for them.
Yeah, what a weird travel schedule. Basically the whole month of November,
pat you know, November tenth on, they're on the road for basically
(10:07):
that whole thing, except for thisweird game over Thanksgiving weekend where they come
all the way back home. It'sthe travel and the riggers that are associated
with that. They come back home. They lose to the coyotes, right,
and the fortress. We don't loseto the coyotes and the fortress.
But that just gives you an indicationfor how hard this travel has been.
Right, we need to get pastthis travel, get back on a normal
schedule, and they're going to befine. They were dominating in October,
(10:30):
they were not that great in November. So let's get through November and move
forward, right, looking forward tobetter the better days and better games to
come for the nights and then ofcourse, you know, maybe another Stanley
Cup. We'll get there. We'regood, stay true, not of hockey
yet to be playing. Yeah,we got some time. We do have
some time. What we don't havea lot of time intel is NFR that's
going to be here before you knowit? Isn't that like? Next week
(10:52):
already kicks off with Downtown Hoe downhere on Fremont next Wednesday. Next week
I'll devote more time to all ofthe NFR happenings because it is ridiculous.
I was just talking to one ofour coworkers who's been here way longer than
me, talking about how NFR isalways a big deal, but it feels
like it's extra this year. Whydo you say that the number of shows
(11:13):
with marquee names is just so muchmore substantial than has been And I've only
been here since the pandemic, soI've only seen it since then. But
I mean, we got Landy Wilsonplaying four nights, you got Garth doing
multiple nights. I mean, there'sa lot of competition for entertainment. So
we'll talk more about that next week. I do want to highlight though,
that Santa jam is still available andthat's probably the best value for your ticket.
(11:37):
Thirty dollars benefits Saint Jude. Youget to see Christians and parmale El
King, who's got pomp and alternativehits by the way, four new acts,
and your ticket not only benefits SaintJude, but it also gets you
into the after party at Ghost Bar. It's a Sunday night. If you
haven't already got your tickets ninety fiveto five the bull dot Com do that
because that is going to be aparty September December tenth, which is next
(12:00):
Sunday from when we're recording and freeParky. Oh yeah, I always mentioned
that, Oh now, what ashow? How much for ticket? Thirty
dollars? Oh King and Chris Jansenalone, You put them in any room,
you're gonna end up paying more thanthat. But for the show you've
put together, just in par looks. I mean, it's basically a Christmas
present to music lovers, right,It's like, Hey, thirty bucks is
all you're gonna pay and parmally rightwith all the number ones that they've had,
(12:22):
right, those three alone, eitherone of those could headline that room.
The fact that they're all three onthat night is going to be awfull.
Wait, Mojo, we're going tobe there too. Sure, don't
you want to co see us too? Sure? I mean that's bonus.
We'll think of some songs to singfor our set list. It'll be great.
So yeah, do get your ticketsfor that, and they get you
into that after party where we'll havesome of those acts also playing up there
(12:43):
too for the twenty one plus sideof the crowd. Just follow your ticket
to get in now. If youcan't wait till next week to go to
go spar We are throwing an NFRkickoff party this Friday night, totally free
to your point, ice free partyingalways in palms right. I love that
about them. It is going tobe a totally free event. Annah Elis
is going to perform and we're gonnagive away enough our tickets Friday night.
So's coming up. That's twenty oneplus obviously, but it's gonna be a
(13:07):
fun time. And Ghost Bar.If you've never been up to Ghost Bar,
ridiculous view of the strip, itis by far the best view,
beautiful view when they open up thosedoors in December. Little chili, it
is a little chili. Yeah,Okay, I don't know because I haven't
been out there in the winter timefor anything out there on the terrace.
But you're saying comfortable enough, allgood? Sure, Yeah, I mean
(13:30):
they have the heaters and the windblockers, but you know, I mean,
you're gonna have your coat with youanyway. It's December in Las Vegas.
But it is beautiful up there.Yeah. I haven't been since they
did all of the renovations and theyreopened and back up, so I'm really
curious to see what it looks likenow, it's awesome. Love that space.
So that's happening this weekend and thenSaturday over at Stony's Rocking Country.
(13:50):
We have a rising star named JoshRoss who is on tour with Nickelback and
Brandley Gilbert. I saw that showat te Mobile in July. He's coming
through to play a Bull session onSouthaturday night and they can get advanced tickets.
I think they started like fifteen dollarsat ninety five five of the Bull
dot Com. That's another thing happeningthis weekend. I think Tony was talking
about maybe going to see that.Well. I hear great things about Josh
(14:11):
Ross and Stony's is a cool placeto see a show. And at the
holidays. I love seeing live musicat the holidays, just something about it.
And it's not a holiday show, just this time of year live music.
It's chilly out, you're having adrink, you know, you're like
in town square, so it's kindof got that outdoors. He kind of
shopping vibe too. He does acover of Iris by the Goo Dolls.
That is so dang good. JoshRoss. Yeah, Josh Ross, emerging
(14:35):
guy, YEP an artist, andit's a full band show. Right,
full band show. So get outthere and see that. That's another thing
happening this weekend. And then ifyou're just ready to get into the holiday
spirit, first all vibe check treesup? Yeah, nay? Ours is
up? Yeah. So my daughterwas in from Reno over the weekend,
the Thanksgiving weekend, and we definitelymade that a part of that weekend.
Right. Put the tree up,real tree or fake tree. We got
(14:56):
a fake tree now, we usedto. We did real tree for twenty
five, twenty years something like that. So now we're now we're to the
artificial tree because we we needed anine foot tree to fill this room in
our house. Look at the sevenfoot tree just look kind of small in
the room. So nine foot tree, if you're trying to buy a real
one every year, you know whatI mean, a little pricey or you
looking like the Griswolds. Sure that'sa little too much. Do you do
(15:16):
the sense sticks that smell like pinetrees? Oh, we don't know,
we don't. We do that justfor the scent. I do that too.
So I haven't put my Christmas treeup yet. I was thinking I
was gonna do it last night. That got lazy, so I'm thinking about
doing it probably this weekend because Ijust want to kind of like lay low,
just smoke man, get in yourtree. So to be honest,
he does not. He does notget crazy with the tree. He does
(15:39):
like like when it like the tree, things fall off and he'll start biting
it and chewing on it. Buthe doesn't like climb up in the tree.
And my tree, I would say, how tall am I? I'm
five eleven, so my tree isprobably like a six foot almost seven foot
tree. But it's just like tall, skinny and black. I have a
black Christmas tree and it's so cool. And then I got the two little
stockings. I really don't have thatmuch Christmas decorations, but I'll put the
(16:02):
tree up this weekend for sure.Mine's been up for a month. Yeah
we get in early well man, three and a half weeks. Yeah,
wow, dude. Look, welike to celebrate, and I don't have
the kids on Christmas this year,so I want to milk as much time
as I can. I get thatthat said, time to start planning all
the holiday things happening around town, and there's just so much, so many
(16:25):
This Thursday, my daughter, she'sin choir and out in Henderson and they're
doing a choir night where they goout caroling at Ethel and Cactus Garden.
They have a chocolate factory, amazinghot chocolate. So if you're looking for
a place to go stroll their CactusGarden has like a million light It's ridiculous
how much how how many many lightsare in this concentrated area and it's like
(16:47):
a garden you stroll through. Yeah, see, it's really cool. This
is why I love living here, man. And that's just one. I
mean, we're about to list off, like people know about Cactus Garden,
Vegas holiday tradition that I actually haven'tdone yet. So maybe we'll put that
on the list. Yeah sure. And it's are operating functional chocolate factory inside
(17:08):
there. I mean, no Opaloopas. But then you see the people
in there making the chocolate. Theygave you samples on the way in.
There's hot chocolate, like I mentioned, is insane. So there's something I
think it's like two bucks and thatmoney goes to a food bank. Okay,
stroll through the Cactus Garden. FunIt depends on what you got to
go. At the top of alot of people's list, there are long
lines, so try and get thereearly, keep that in mind, or
go during the week or something.Yeah, good point. So that's what
(17:30):
we're doing this week. And thenI don't even know where to begin.
Where do you go? I wouldsay, I did this last Excuse me,
my allergies are really acting up todaytoo for some reason. I'm just
like, what is happening? Thetech I stop? So I did this
last year and I want to doit again this year because I love this
place and we talked about it duringHalloween, Gilcrease. I still need the
(17:52):
Richard so they do. They havethe hot Apple cider and they have the
donies out there, and then youcould get on the hay ride and they
have they you know, provide blanketsfor you and they just take you around
the hole, you know, orchard, and they they do have like Christmas
displays with just like the lights andthe different characters and stuff. So that's
cool. I feel like if youhave kids, you know, and you
want to take them there, That'ssomething that I definitely want to do again
(18:12):
this year. And the ice skatingdrink. I haven't done the ice skating
rink, which at the Cosmo. That's the one I want to do so
for locals. Monday and Tuesday nightthey do. They call it date skate,
but it's really family skate night. They show movies on the Marquee,
holiday movies like l for the GrinchChristmas Story. Yeah, right there on
the Marque that you see when youdrive up and down the strip, so
you can see it right from theice skating rink. They play it loud
(18:33):
so everybody can hear it. Socool, and it's free. You got
to pay to rent your skates, but the ice skating is free. Yeah,
it's neat. I have you guysever been ice skating? Yeah?
Oh yeah, we do whatever yearwith the kids. Really yeah, I've
been like once and it was notgood. Not hug the wall. It's
an experience. My son is greatat it. He hugs the wall for
the most part. But he that'slike a holiday tradition. He we can't
(18:55):
do it with that. We can'tdo the holidays without doing that at least
once. Skis and skates good sixbut five and my center of gravity is
up here in my throat area.So it's just I'm good on like tennis
shoes, I'm good in basketball shoes. Give me a pair of cleats fine,
but on skates and skis that's notmaking Can you dunk? It's sorry?
Random side note, I wonder dunked. It's been a while, it's
(19:18):
been asked him, right, it'sbeen a long time. Okay, sorry.
What about you for holidays? Whatis? What do you look forward
to? The first thing that comesto mind is the Bellagio right which first
week of December. It's not openyet, but any day now the Conservatory
will switch over to their to theirholiday display. So most years we get
down there, not every year. They did go skating. The girls did
(19:41):
at Downtown Summerland last year, andthat was a cool vibe. I mean
even on a weekend and it wasbusy and I think it was like sixty
degrees. It's still was you know, it's real nce and they were out
there. We rent the skates andthe girls had a good time. It
was you know, kind of crowded, but it wasn't too bad. I
guess those are the first couple ofthings. The Gilchreast thing is right in
our backyard right by there. Wehaven't done that at Christmas time yet.
(20:02):
I need to get out there. And then they're doing that all the thing
again at Green Valley. Uh,they've got a little skating thing out skating
things and they have like the littleigloos where you can make reservations and you
could you know, make like s'moresand just stuff like this, just the
winter hu big stuff. That's oneof the things that Cosmo does is those
firesides'mores. So they do that atGreen Valley too, Yes, I believe
(20:25):
so. I believe so. Anda lot of people talk about the North
Pole Express, which I haven't doneor taken the kids to, but it's
kind of more like if you've gotyoung kids, right, it's the uh,
it's the railroad, the Southern NevadaRailroad. I'm getting that large city
out of Boulder City. So theydo like a North Pole it's like a
Polar Express Express type of slid foryour kids. You know. The kids
(20:47):
go out there in the pajamas andstuff like that. So I know they're
taking reservations for that. Now.I think my kids may be a little
too old for that. But ifyou've got four year olds, if you
got six year olds, if you'vegot the kids in that neighborhood, I
got a love and year old thatwill love that all right, I don't
even know what the cutoff is,but I think my eighteen year old might
not think it's cool enough. I'mgoing to look into that. That sounds
kind of neat. Of course they'reI don't know if this is new to
(21:08):
town Square. I see that they'redoing snow every night at like seven o'clock
and then on the weekends they doit at seven and eight. Well,
that's cool in like the park areain the center where they play holiday music
and you get to experience snow.Yeah, town Square does it upright at
the audience for sure, with thelittle parade that they have, and you
know, and there's a Santa.I was gonna say, Santa's there.
And I think you can write themletters too, don't they have that,
(21:30):
like like a mailbox? Yeah,a mailbox. I think you could do
that too, kids one, Andthey do have that at Gilcrease too,
you can write a letter to Santa. I saw that we're going to have
an El Nino winter, so betterthan normal chance of seeing some moisture and
snow potentially throughout the winter season herein Las Vegas, chillier earlier than it
usually is, very much. SoI saw that, So, so what
(21:52):
you're saying, is that typically weusually because I don't recall last year outside
of just on the mountain us evergetting any snow. So do you think
here in the valley we might getsnow. I think I've seen snow down
here. I lived there seven years. It's probably three or four out of
the seven we've seen snow. Wehad one year against Centennial, and it
(22:12):
kind of depends on what part ofthe value we're in and where the front
comes in from. But we hada pretty good amount of snow for a
half a day on our palm treesin the backyard. It really can be
a matter of a mile that itchanges. Like my case, Yeah,
school is like two miles away fromthe house, and it was snowing at
(22:33):
their school, but not in ourbackyard. It's so bizarre because the elevation
is a little bit different. Soactually in summerland, where you start to
go uphill pretty significantly, on theouter edges of summerland, you'll see snow,
you know, snow kind of outthere. But and then of course
one of the things that they haven'ttalked about glittering lights. They didn't want
to leave them out or in chance, Yeah, we had a touchdown those.
I was saving those for last, because, first of all, glittering
(22:56):
lights is a great experience to drivethrough. They do it and a train
on some nights too, which ifyou want to get out of your car,
because it's always great for the passengers, it's okay for the driver because
you're also focusing on driving and operatinga motor vehicle and paying attention to the
car in front of you whose lightsmight not be once. You want to
make sure you can see them andnot hit them, right, So keep
that in mind if you don't.If you want to actually get the full
(23:17):
experience and not have to drive througha Sanda tram is a pretty neat experience
that you can do, but youget there early. That's my pro tip.
I think you echoed that to Tony, right, Yeah. I mean,
if you go on a Saturday atfive or six o'clock in the afternoon
or evening, you're definitely going towait in a line, which again is
part of the tradition of it all. You're listening to Christmas music on sunny
one oh six point five. Ijust kind of sitting in your car with
(23:40):
your family at one point sort ofbefore it all starts. The boy Scouts
give you the chance to make adonation and get some hot chocolates. So
it's definitely a holiday tradition. Mostfamilies, a lot of families you know
in this town make sure to dothat every year. They get a huge
crowd of people up there. Butyou're right, you know, if you
can go on a Tuesday, that'san option for you, or a Thursday
(24:02):
always great to try to avoid thelong line. And it gets dark at
four thirty now, so I mean, yeah, you can make it work
and get the popcorn because they're popcornthat glittering lights popcorn man so good,
very good. And the hot cocotoo. I see. I seem to
have a trend. Everywhere I gothere's gotta be hot coke. And that's
okay. And in chances back thisyear they're just doing the one location where
(24:23):
they started at the Las Vegas Ballpark. Okay, yes, I haven't done
that one. I did the oneat Resorts World last year, which are
not doing again this year. That'sthat's awesome. It's like it's like Christmas
explodes and it's they have a skatingtrail in the ballpark, like it's on
the ballpark. It's really neat andit's it's not a skating rink, it's
a trail, so you like goingthrough the wood. It's really neat the
(24:45):
way they have it set up.And then of course Santa and every everything
else that they do, and theyhave like a I guess scavenger hume would
be the right word holiday scavenger huntthat you do throughout the experience of Enchant.
If you haven't taken the kids, you probably we need to get your
reservations in advance because that thing sellsout past. Yeah, and there are
usually some deals online for in Chance, so be on the lookout for those,
(25:08):
uh, you know, going backto my plug for Sunny one oh
six point five, one of oursister stations. But uh, I think
we're giving away tickets this week ifyou want to sign up to win,
so heck y Sonny one oh sixfive dot com. But yeah, in
Chant is what this is third orfourth year in Las Vegas. Third years
is just the third year. Yeah, people love it. Yeah, sure,
absolutely. There's a little Santa's villagewhere you can get some shopping done,
(25:30):
you know, some Christmas shopping andthat kind of thing. Let's touch
on that real quick. Has anybodystarted their Christmas shopping yet done wrapped under
the tree. I haven't got.I don't think we've bought anything yet as
a family for Christmas. And wemissed Cyber Friday. What is it called
cyber Monday, Black Friday, Blackfridayyaymall business Saturdays, Cyber Monday and Friday.
(25:52):
Today's travel Tuesday. It's also GivingTuesday. No, I have not,
I am, but but I thinkat this point in my life where
I am, especially with my family, it's like we all just agreed,
like we do a white elephant giftexchange, and like that's the only and
I'm gonna get my mom and dadsomething from me. But other than that,
it's, you know, thirty seven, we're just being together, is
(26:15):
my gift. I tried that withmy kids. They told me to go
stuff myself so that that's not goingto happen. They didn't say that,
but I love that if they didnot in the cards for our family,
we have to do gifts. That'syou know, well yeah, because your
kids are still young. Now,I have this question, and I don't
think I asked you guys this.I have stockings up and they're gonna be
with their mom for Christmas this year. Okay, so I have them till
(26:36):
the twenty third. Do I stilldo the stocking thing? Or is that
something that's saved for I mean, obviously to Christmas take have to be faked
because Santa doesn't come until Christmas,It's true. So yeah, do the
whole thing do? I would thinkI would. I just didn't know it.
I never really went that far untillast year, and I know they
done. They didn't really have themon Christmas until last year. So this
(26:57):
is kind of a new figuring outwhat I do now that we've established what
happens on Christmas here. So stilldo the whole time at all? I
think so? I think so.And my mom's still outside of not doing
gifts, she still will get mesome like lottery tickets or she knows I
love my candy, so she'll stuffstuff my Marvin the Martian stocking, which
I've had since I was like fifteen. Well, for parents who have to
(27:18):
share kids, holidays can be atricky time. And what I like to
reinforce is that the Christmas is aseason, not just a day. Yeah.
So with all the things that wetalked about on this podcast happening around
Las Vegas. Try to check asmany off of your list and create those
experience of those core memories with yourkids. I know, I think literally,
I'm doing every single thing we've talkedabout on this list, I think
(27:41):
so, So try and get asmany as you can in because the kids
will remember that stuff and you'll havesome great potential traditions that you can do
every year because a lot of thesethings are annual things that happen here in
Las Vegas. So keep that inmind. We can't do it all,
so we like two things every year. Great though, yeah, I know
it's great, absolutely, and theydon't have fine memories of their special memories
(28:03):
of their childhoods. Yeah, duringthe Christmas time, but we don't.
It's impossible to do everything and it'sexpensive. Right. We had a couple
of things, and there's plenty todo in Las Vegas. It's a great
time to be in this town.It really is a lot of free things
too. Keep that in mind, try to, you know, maximize the
opportunities and just experience the holidays herein Las Vegas. There. I don't
know that there is a more magicalplace when it comes to really anything from
(28:26):
entertainment to sports to even the Christmasseason than here in Las Vegas saw some
So I'm originally from Cleveland, andthey got a bunch of snow today.
I saw this online today and everyonce in a while, because I grew
up there, I think of theholidays. I think of my childhood and
we spent some time with the kids. They were, you know, in
Cleveland for a couple of Christmases too, So I think of Cleveland at the
holidays, and I think it mightbe special to be there for the holidays.
(28:49):
And then I saw at the snow. I'm perfectly good now right here
in Centennial Hills. Absolutely at theholidays. The only place better would be.
I'm with you. Wow, doyou guys have any ornaments decorations Christmas
related that you've had in you yourfamily or for a long period of time.
Just curious, like crieving Christmas treeornaments? Uh? My aunt Kate's
(29:12):
eggnog recipe. Yeah, I'm madat that. This is a good one.
I'm guessing there's booze in it.Yes there is, I mean,
yeah, really, no no ornaments? I got one? Yeah, yeah,
we have a Disney train that Igot in the early eighties when I
was younger than my son is now, who's he's eleven. You know,
(29:34):
some of the parts have broken off, and you know, it's it still
works on you know, eight Dbatteries or whatever we had to do back
in the eighties, but somehow itsurvived all the years. And my son
looks forward to Christmas season does notstart until we set that train up.
It's a little bit of a painin the butt and it falls off the
tracks constantly, but it's his thing, and I told him one day he'll
get to have that for his kidsand his family. Ah. So it's
(29:56):
kind of our hand me down thingthat we have in our family. That's
cute. I think our thing isactually fairly new. Maybe ten years ago.
Eight years ago, the kids disappearedone night and they went into their
room and they made a popsicle stickFamily of Us, Like they took images
from online and they sort of andthey printed them out and then they put
them on popsicle sticks and they madelike a tree topper out of this thing.
(30:18):
And it's you know, so it'sgot depth to it, like you
know, it's kind of it's reallycool, right, And the dog was
in it, so it's it fellapart and we put it into like a
shadow box frame. So yeah, that's the thing when we're sort of getting
everything out for the holidays. Nowthat's the one thing everybody's like, Hey,
where's the popsicle stick family thing? So that's it's cool that they did
it totally on their own. Itwas just an idea they had one day
(30:40):
and it came out so great andit was incredibly cute, and they were
small when they made it. SoI love that. That's awesome. Yeah,
we love having that ar you hangit up on the wall now.
We did. We put it inlike a shadow box frame now, so
it goes up on the wall. That's awesome. It used to be like
the tree top refers was made outof popsicle sticks and glue. So it
fell apart at one point, sowe recreated in the little shadow box.
Think it's it's a special thing. The best gifts are the handmade ones kids
(31:03):
level up. I'm not about twelveyear old degrees. She thinks the best
gifts this year are Uggs and Lululemon'swhat they want now the pants she's twelve,
Oh yeah, Lemon and the Stanleycups are not not the hockey like
those. Yeah, like a bigwater is that what that is? Yeah?
And I got this at five below, so I don't think that's right.
(31:25):
Sh that is ship Stanley cups canbe purchased at forty and below.
Is there a little price here? That's the hot item? I guess I
got to get one of those fromlike, Yeah, well see if their
moms want to get that. Yeah, I've already bought all the Christmas gifts
I need to buy. Shopping done. I love that. Absolutely, it's
not even December yet. I knowyou're crazy. I can focus on all
crazy now. I can go backlisten to this podcast and sort out all
(31:48):
the ideas of things we can doin Las Vegas and not to worry about
shopping. I don't know why.I just started getting emotional right now.
And I was getting emotional last nightaround the holidays and just like thinking about
like all like what you guys werejust talking about, like traditions and stuff,
and like with not having grandparents aroundanymore and knowing how we used to
celebrate the holidays and how different itis this day. But I think to
your point what you were saying, mode, it's like it's all about just
(32:08):
like how you make it and carryingon those traditions and you know, spending
the time with just those that meanthe most to you. And even though
those aren't here that we're here backthen, they're still with us somewhere out
there. I'll look at the northStar. Well, I don't know how
to talk. I feel like whatyou just said means that they're here with
(32:29):
us, right, Yeah, thething that you just said suggests they're still
with us for sure. Yeah.Sorry, little So until then, we'll
be right here at Living Las Vegas. What I said, Vegas. Drop
