Phillies got embarrassed, But Phillies got flat out embarrassed the
(01:19):
last three days City Field. There's there's no you know,
there's no way fans butts anything about it. They got
flat out out played. They got basically manhandled by a
division rival. And while Monday's box score was five to
(01:42):
four and today went extras, none of it felt close.
Tenth inning today didn't feel close. And that's the problem.
Once again. If you got are here, hang out in
(02:02):
the chat. If you're here, let me know you're here,
and just let it all out. I'm gonna be on
here for the next twenty five to thirty minutes for
the newest episode once again of Luke and I on
the Phillies.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Let it all out, get into comments.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I want to hear every single one of your thoughts
because this is just this is just insane.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
It got to a point so far, but twenty.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Three games into the season, it's somehow gotten to a
point already where we're sitting here begging for a spark.
On April twenty third, and I had to tweet out
today after the game, what you would fix about a
(02:57):
thirteen to ten baseball team twenty three games in Newhart
in sixty two game season. And it's crazy because it
doesn't feel like they're thirteen. And I know thirteen and
ten's not some you know, crazy record, but like, they
(03:19):
just don't even feel competitive right now. They went into
this series with two on Friday and Saturday against the
Marlins and played really well.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
They crushed the baseball, the starters looked good.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Then they blow it late in the game. A Ryan
Kirkering blows, ever blows and it doesn't matter. They blow
it in the eighth, ninth, whatever ending it was on Sunday,
and then you go into City Field and you play
your first game back at the stadium of the team
(04:00):
that quite literally pants to you in the postseason last year,
and you just come out flat, and you come out
on on what Monday night, and you make Tyler McGill
look look like Randy Johnson and Turner oh for three,
(04:26):
Harper oh for three, Cassianus over four, Schwarper one for four,
and and you do the whole whatever like you do
the whole Stott home run in the ninth, and everyone's like, ah, wow,
it's close, it's close. And then you're six hundred and
thirty million dollars combined. Players come up and they just
(04:50):
don't even put together competitive at bats. And then you
move to Tuesday and you finally get a battle through
Aaron Nola start, and yeah, the solo home run in
the first and solo home run or the the other
home run? What games that I don't even know what
(05:12):
I'm talking about right now. I'm sorry. Monday was the
Nola game, Tuesday was the Sanchez game. Sanchez obviously leaves
with the forearm injury. Hopefully that doesn't turn into much,
because they they freaking need that guy. But then you
get these innings out of Joe Ross and out of
(05:34):
Jordan Romano, and you get one out of you get
two thirds out of Tanner Banks, and yeah, he allowed
to run. And then you bring your best right handed
reliever in and he just he just looks like he
doesn't blow, and and and and you fall five to one.
(05:55):
And then you come into today and this was easily
for me, And yeah, I can go and pull other
ones back. And you can say the Marlins game on Sunday,
or the Braves game last Thursday or two thursdays ago, whatever.
(06:16):
You go into today with David Peterson on the mound
obviously good arm and Zach Wheeler pitching for you.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
And Wheeler I didn't think maybe he didn't.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Have his greatest look like absolute one hundred percent Zach
Wheeler early, but he battled and he battled like Nola
on Monday, and he battled and he ended up turning
in six innings, nine ks, two urned runs off of
a Brett Baby moos, right, and then you just you like,
(06:58):
you just look like you look lifeless against the team
once again that straight up pants to you in the postseason,
and you talk of off season about how you know, we're
more serious this year. You know, the season starts on
opening Day. You know we're not taking it easy.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
We're boots on the ground, we're pedal to the metal.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
And like, this is the time to go. And you
win an awesome Dodgers series a few weeks ago, and
then you just get lifeless, stupid baseball and like nothing, nothing,
There hasn't been an inning this season that was more
(07:49):
frustrating today than the top of the tenth. Right, Bryce
Harper starts on set, ghost around her the dumbest thing
in baseball, first of all, but that's another topic for
another day. Schwerver strikes out what wasn't really even that
(08:12):
competitive a bat, one ball strike, foul ball, looking, goes
goes down looking, didn't think it was a strike, don't care,
swing the bat, and and then Castiano's hits the big single.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
JT walks boom singles.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Right, stop flies out, and Kepler flies out and it's
just a buzz kill, like it's it's just a it's
a stab in the heart to Zach Wheeler and to
a bullpen that. Yeah, they've looked like dog shit this year,
(08:54):
utter dog shit. Excuse my language, but they bad today.
Zach Wheeler battled once again Matt Strom Jose Alvarado through
two innings for the first time since Game three of
the twenty twenty three NLCS, and he battled his ass
off and and listen, man, like I get it, we're
(09:17):
gonna get into Jordan Romano. And if you're in here
and you want to sell Jordan Romano to the whoever
you want to sell him to, fine, But I'm gonna
say something. Not a lot of people are gonna like,
Jordan Romano wasn't that bad today. I didn't think Jordan
(09:41):
know was that bad today. He threw arguably one bad
pitch and I think that's even something that I would argue.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah, he hung it to Alonso the slider like a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
But like you lost that game in the top of
the tenth when the lineup that you brought back after
two utter postseason failures just continues to do the same
thing over and over and over again, Like God forbid,
(10:22):
they get a hit with two outs and runners in
scoring position, God forbid. Like I don't even think Jordan
Romanto is that bad. I'm gonna say it again. You
have to expect each team to score one run in
extra innings. That is, that is how extra innings are
(10:44):
now extra innings in baseball. Now you have to expect
to score one run. Scoring one run in extras is
practically a failure at this point. And what do you know?
The Phillies only scored one run.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
But I didn't think Jordan Romano was that bad today?
Speaker 2 (11:08):
And yeah, I know the dude's stick like, I get it.
He I can sit here and if anybody wants to
talk more about Jordan Romana, let me know. In the
comments they are flowing in a little bit. I am
going to get to those in a second. Once again,
this is Luke and I on the Phillies. If you
have not already had to Spotify Apple whatever you guys want,
(11:28):
hit the little five star thing. It's much appreciated. I'm
gonna get to these comments in a second. But Jordan
Manna wasn't that bad today? Did he get the job done? No?
And and that matters. The dude's e r A is
through the roof. But I can't even just like, it's
(11:50):
so hard for me to blame this game on Romano
and Thompson and and anybody else other than the lineup.
It's just when are they gonna sack up and get
a hit, Like when are they gonna sack up and
(12:15):
get a hit that matters?
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Like get one hit that truly matters.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Because now you go into Wrigley Field against a rolling
Cubs team who is putting up like nine runs of
game right now on the Dodgers, there's a very good
chance the Phillies return home under five hundred and Yeah,
I'm gonna say this, and I'm surprised I haven't said
it already twelve minutes into the video. It's April twenty third.
(12:48):
I get it. I get it. And listen if you
know me, if if you guys in here follow my stuff,
you you know I'm one of the more positive Phillies. Orders,
slash fans, slash whatever you want to call me on
the app. But I'm I'm done with it. It's April
(13:11):
twenty third. Thing, I'm done with it. It's it's it's
just lifeless baseball. You go into City Field and you
just don't look like you belong. They don't look like
they belong with the Mets right now, the Mets. The
Mets don't have this unbelievable roster on paper. They just
(13:33):
they just do it when it matters, like they just
simply do it when it matters, and the Phillies it's
it's truly that simple. I want to get some of
these comments here once again. If you guys are in
the chat, load up. I I want every single one
(13:54):
of your thoughts to just be dropped in the chat
and I want to I want to talk about all
of them. I gonna hang on here for about twenty
five minutes. If you guys want to hang for an hour,
I'll hang for an hour. This is my therapy session.
I hope this is your therapy session, because man, this
this team is incredibly frustrating right now. Sean Nard not
even sure what to be bad at most. I'm assuming
(14:17):
he means mad at most. It's hard, it's it's right now.
What I'm mad at the most is that they just
look lifeless. That they look lifeless, It look like they
don't want to be there. And it's just listen, man.
I've I've been a big, big Rob Thompson supporter since
he's taken over. He has the best winning percentage by
(14:38):
a coach in the history of the franchise. I think
that matters. But like, this is a game after that
like you rip these dudes, like you light a fire
under their ass, Like go in and tell them to
figure it the f out, like light them up, light
them up, put people on blast. Yeah it's April twenty third.
(15:00):
It doesn't matter. Bryce Harper is gonna sit here after
the game and say that that, yeah, we have to
play better, then do it. Then do it. Then don't
swing it off speed balls and countless and countless times
again in city field. Go tell your team that play baseball.
Don't go out there and look like you don't want
(15:21):
to be there. Phillies and Eagles, Starbacks. They'll still be
one of six, but they're going nowhere after that. Yeah,
I mean it's it's I don't I don't have a
pushback to you. Yeah, I mean yeah, I still think
they'll make the playoffs, but I would short of like
them to win this division because listen, I think the
(15:42):
the NL West is going to stay how it is.
And I don't mean that as a full I think
the Dodgers are obviously good, the Padres are good, the
Diamondbacks are good. I don't expect the Giants to be
good for sixty two games. If I'm being a play honest,
I don't think the Giants are gonna make the playoffs.
I think it's gonna be two teams from the East,
one team from the Central, and three teams in the West.
So it's gonna have to come down to the Phillies
(16:03):
having a better record than one of the mets of
the Braves. I think they'll do that. I listen, man,
there's still a chance they win this division. Like that's
what's the most frustrating part about it is is I'm
just incredibly just like just ruins your day. Like you
sit there and you watch it, and it's just like God, like,
just just have some stones. I agree, CGP, I agree.
(16:25):
And let's not forget that the approach would have been
much different if our offense scores at least one run
with the baseload. I gotta riad again, I agree, and
let's not forget that the approach would have been much
different if our offense scores at least one run with
the basis loaded. Yeah, it's just like it's just the
countless runners in scoring vision problem and it's it's beyond frustrating.
(16:46):
And here's where I'm at with the offense. I am
not I am not a fire somebody guy on April
twenty third. But if I woke up tomorrow morning to
a odds lucky tweet that said Kevin Long has been fired,
I wouldn't be mad at the slightest. It just feels
(17:08):
like they're starting to get comfortable. They're they're starting to
get complacent almost and and listen, I don't think that's
the full truth. I don't think they're complacent right now
with how they're playing. But it's just it's they're just
getting into this loophole. Yeah, well, yes, like it will
come and have it come now? Like do it now?
(17:30):
Like do it now?
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Kevin Long should be fired tomorrow morning. Yeah, there it is.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
I just it's the same issues of the last two
and a half years of Kevin Long's approach and strategy
and way his entire career has been has been hunt
the fast ball and hint the curve balls, like it's
a fastball approach with a Once you see an off
(18:01):
speed pitch, you don't know what to do with it.
And yeah, Bryce Harper is Bryce Harper, but that guy
can't hit it off speed pitches save his life right now,
And yeah, Harper will be fine if there's one guy
that will be fine. It's Bryce Harper. He's Bryce Harper
whole end of the year with thirty home runs ninety
five RBIs in a n PS. But like watching him
(18:25):
swing at all these pitches in the dirt, and watching
Trey Turner swing at pitches in the dirt, and watching
at times, although his approach has been a lot better,
and just watching some of these guys just it. It's
it just seems like it's so drilled into their head
to hunt the fastball, Hunt the fastball, hunt the fastball.
Go look at these guys splits. I would love to,
(18:46):
and I might in a few minutes pull up. This
team splits against fastballs just vers everything else. It's it's bizarre.
It's they just hunt fastballs, and they hunt fastballs, and
once an off speed pitch is thrown at them, they
don't know what to do with it. It's frustrating. Listen, man,
if I if there's one that has to go first,
(19:07):
it's it's it's Kevin Long. Make the team uncomfortable. Like
if I had the choice right now, I think you
have to fire Kevin Long to send a message. I
think you have to fire him to send a message.
Send a message to the clubhouse that like, hey, like
(19:29):
not everyone's job safe, like you have to perform and
and you have to do your job. And yeah, Harper's
job is safe, and Turner's job is safe. And the
big names guys obviously going anywhere, but like, send a message,
do something, like do something, because if you're gonna run
(19:49):
it back after two year failures and getting pants by
your division rival last year, you gotta switch something. And
and we cried all off season, and everyone cried about
the word.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Approach, approach, approach.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
And it's getting to the point now where maybe you
have to realize that these guys listening to the same
guy just isn't work. And how much does a hitting
coach truly do I don't know, not not as much
as you think he does. But just get a new
face in there, get a new face in there, get
some new blood in there. And that's what I think
(20:25):
this team needs. I just think they need new blood somewhere,
whether it's a coach, whether it's a player, whether it's
from the miners, whether it's from a trade at the deadline.
But like, you better hope that Dombrowski has a better
deadline as the last few years man because this has
first round exit written all over it. Again, I agree, Yeah,
(20:49):
we got to that one right here. Honest question is
Rojas make it to Alonzo's ball with outfield playing as
deep as they are in that situation. No, no, he doesn't.
Not a single player in baseball makes it to that ball.
Unfortunately they're playing deep. They have to play deep in
that situation. That was just like the dumb And that's
(21:12):
why I kind of said I didn't think Jordan Romano
was as bad as everyone thinks he was. Today. It was.
It was one. It was one bad slider to Alonso.
And once again the issue is Romano hasimo two. If
you're going to miss, you miss out. Yeah, absolutely, you
missed down. You missed down in the dirt, You miss
out into the left side batter's boxer down in the dirt.
(21:35):
You don't miss it on the corner. And yeah it
was a it was a bad spot, but like it
was a Alonzo also went and got that ball really well,
and Starling mart Te hit like a seventy mile an
hour blue up the middle, like it wasn't really hard
contact other than the Alonso and he went and got
(21:56):
it like That's why I don't think Romano was that
bad today. Once again, this is the newest episode of
Luke and I on the Phillies. I appreciate everyone for
hanging out on me. We got about five hundred people
in here right now. That's pretty sweet. So if you
guys are in here dropping in the chat, man like,
let it out. This is your therapy session. The Phillies
have an off day tomorrow. I hope you're doing what
(22:18):
I'm doing tomorrow, taking a very nice day off, some
golf after work. I need everyone to clear the head tomorrow.
I need everyone to take some deep breaths. If you're
listening right out, take a deep breath. I get it.
I've tried to take a lot of these today, but
it's just insanely frustrating watching a team like this just
just look lifeless, look lifeless against a division rival that
(22:40):
pants you. Last year, the big part of Rojas making
the team was to be the lake game defense, and
we pull him for a matchup when he's the hop bat. Yeah,
like yes and no. I don't insanely disagree with what
Thompson did there. I think you try and get a
lefty in there, but I think that's an argument to make.
(23:02):
I think if there's a questionable one there, I think
it probably is that it's pretty sad if we need
to fire hitting coach because our veteran players can't perform. Yeah, man,
you're absolutely right, and like, that's that's what's crazy about
me sitting here on March twenty third. Sorry, that's what's
crazy about me sitting here on March twenty third and
(23:23):
saying I think we need to fire someone. It's it's
it's just it's just absolutely bizarre. It's really really bad
to just sit here and be at this point because,
like you say, all off season and once again, I
feel like I've said this eighteen times already, but you
(23:47):
sit here all off season and you say you're gonna
run it back, and yes, his Sosarto is freaking awesome.
Jordan Romano. I think obviously it's not been a good
pickup so far, but I didn't absolutely hate the move
when they made it. They were banking on the comeback
because he's been really good when he's healthy, and Max
(24:07):
Kepler has been eh good. I still believe in Max Kepler.
I'm not out on Max Kepler, but you go into
City Field and you just just look like you don't
want to be there. Uh, the Phillies won through five hitters,
went nine for sixty one this series. You're not gonna
win like that. I'm gonna give a shout at the
(24:28):
Phillies Tilgate because I'm gonna read a bunch of stats
here and they're a little bit Phillies lead the league
and blown saves at seven? What else? What have we
got here? Most double plays into this season? Uh? J
Trolmuto is tied for second along with Alec Boum as well.
(24:49):
It's just teams just hard to watch. They're just simply
hard to watch right now. And I don't know what change.
And yeah, they can go and win five in a
row and I'll be back in on them. A lot
of you guys will probably be back in on them,
or unless you're smarter than me, you probably won't be
(25:10):
because I just have hope about them a lot. But
it's just it's just frustrating. It's it's it's extremely frustrating,
and it's it's tiring to sit there, and and it's
an issue when it's tiring to sit there and watch
the baseball team you enjoy watching, because it's it's just
(25:31):
they just look lifeless. And I've said that word forty times.
They look lifeless. They look like they don't want to
be there, and they look they just look it looks
complacent and and they look comfortable, and they look okay
with where they're at right now, and I know they're not,
but it's just it's it's bad. Any final thoughts, Final
(25:53):
thoughts once again, for anyone that's been in here, thank you.
I appreciate you for hanging out. Obviously, this was on
tonight even though the game isn't fun today, because I
just want to hear where you guys are at once again,
if you are listening right now, uh so, it seems
like a Mets standing here d reels ninety three. Hey man, congrats,
you guys kicked our ass this weekend. I'm not going
(26:14):
to be that guy that you know. I'm not gonna
be the guy that tries to tell you didn't. You
guys owned us this weekend and you guys have our number,
especially at City Field. Listen, it was a I hope
they use it as a wake up series, right, it
has to be what's up?
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Chant?
Speaker 2 (26:33):
What's going on? Bro? How are you appreciate you being
in here. You just hope it's a wake up series.
It's all love, absolutely, man, It's always all love. You
just gotta hope it's a wake up series because you
play like this, you get swept by the Cubs. You
play like this, you get swept by the Cubs. You're
(26:54):
thirteen and fifteen coming back home. I'll tell you what.
The boobirds are going to be out. You get swept
by Cubs, you come back home home Monday versus the Nationals.
It's the Nationals. Yeah, I'll be back. I'll be back there.
I'll be back at the bank Tuesday with Crossing bron
If you guys are down there, come say hi. All right,
(27:15):
So they have an off day Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Nationals.
Oh go on Friday, Saturday, Sunday versus Diamondbacks. They just
need to use it as a wake up series. They
need to go in a Chicago pissed off and they
need to like put some life back in this baseball team.
(27:35):
Something needs to change. Someone maybe needs to flip a chair,
bring the daycare back, bring the water back, bring stuff back.
I don't know, whatever is going to work. Just get
them back because they're not like the most frustrating part
about it is like they're not a bad baseball team,
like they just they just crumble. They when they get down,
(27:56):
they can't find their way back up. And that's the
most frustrating part is they get in these slumps, and
Harper gets in these slumps, and it seems he just
seems like he kind of takes the whole team with him.
And obviously he's not doing that on purpose, but it
just seems like when Harper goes, everyone goes. The Cubs
have a chance to embarrass and even more, someone in
(28:18):
the clubhouse needs to take the lead. That's a nice
Stotts Berner. Is that Bryson Statt's senior picture from senior
year in high school. That's a funny picture. I've never
seen that before. Yeah, they have a chance to get embarrassed,
they really do. If they play like this in Wrigley,
(28:40):
they're going to get embarrassed. Pe Crow Armstrong is murdering
the baseball right now. Kyle Talker's murdering the baseball right now.
The Cubs bullpens thanks, So hopefully the Phillies can take
advantage of that. Probably not, they at the rate they're
going they'll probably make four guys look like all stars
in that cub's bullpen. Who stinks? So once again, anybody
in here, any final thoughts I want to hear really quick,
(29:03):
and I sent this tweet out earlier. If you were
in here right now, first of all, thank you for listening.
Second of all, if you were Dave Browski or if
you were John Middleton, how about that because some people's
answers were to fire Dombrowski. If you were John Middleton
right now and you could do one thing to this team,
(29:25):
what would you do. Would you fire Kevin Mang, would
you fire Rob Thompson, Would you fire Dave Dombrowski? Would
you option someone to triple A? What would you do
if you could make one move to the Philly now?
Because for me, it's fire Kevin Mall. If it was
(29:46):
up to me, I would fire Kevin Long tomorrow morning.
Just try and wake this team up. And once again,
it's just absolutely insane that they need to wake up
call on April twenty third, But here we are. Here,
we are, they're thirteen and ten. Any final thoughts, what
(30:08):
would you do right now if you can make one
move to the team. I appreciate you guys for hanging out.
This has been fun. This has been one of the
more interactive ones we've had. If you want me to
do Morris, I would love to, especially after losses. A
lot of times I just need to get it out
and it is fun. This has been a therapy session here.
(30:31):
So once again, this has been the newest episode of
Luke and I on the Phillies, brought to you by Foco,
your one stop shop for all things Phillies, apparel, gear, overalls, bods,
everything going on right now. If you're watching on Twitter,
head to the link in my bio and purchase through there.
If you're on YouTube, go follow me on Twitter at
Arcane Luke. If you're on the Gambler Twitter, I think
(30:53):
I streamed to the Gambler Twitter. Follow me at Arcane
Luke on Twitter. It's it's one of the to all
My socials are either Luke, Arcaney or Arcandie Luke, doesn't
really matter. Instagram's first last, Twitter's last first, It's it's
it's really just a name. Once again, I am going
to be heading right to recording a little bit for
(31:14):
Phillies Digest. If you haven't already, hit the subscribe button.
On Phillies Digest, myself and schan Bernard are posting videos
every day. I promise you that Phillies Digest is the
best YouTube channel for phillies on YouTube.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
There's not anybody that competes just Humble way.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
There's not anybody that competes with myself and Schoumberdart's content
on there. Stotts Berner extend Kyle triple A Marsh Ranger
to bullpen. Yes, Stotts Berner, I'm I'm huge on that
last one. I sent a tweet out the other day
that it just feels like they need an arm and
it feels like the arms right there and listen, they're
not gonna do it. I'd be absolutely shocked if Ranger
(31:56):
comes back. I'm I believe Dobrawska even the other day
