Yeah, yeah, hi, good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Obviously we want to talk about this date with this girl, Dana. Yes,
so yes, Now you said you met online. What did
you do for the first date?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Oh my god. We went to Japantown, went to the
sushi joint for dinner. Okay, this day it was amazing.
I love this place is like warm lighting and it
feels like one of those first dates that intributed a movie.
And we talked about travel. She had just been to Japan,
so it's perfect. We like talk embarrassing childhood stories. Anyway,
at one point, you got a bit of soft on

(00:51):
her nose and I got my neck and I wiped
it off and she blushed and I actually said out loud,
like total wrong, calm moment. Yeah, and she like smiled
and I was like, oh my god, this is this
is incredible. So after dinner we hit a karaoke bar
nearby and we closed the place. We had so much fun.

(01:11):
And I do not say this about dates, but it
felt magical, Like I thought, oh my god, this is
what I've been waiting for. This is the kind of
first date you tell your you know, kids about.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
But I'm shocked.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
She's vanished, like completely.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
I was just talking to my producer Taylor about dating online.
She says, it's horrible, So this must have just been
like a cool moment.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I guess, huh, very all right, But I know you
guys helped out people. Uh, we have people get ghosted.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
We got Felix on the phone. We're in the middle
of second date update. I do like your date, Felix,
quite a bit. You. So, just to recap, you all
went for sushi in Japantown in San Francisco and then
karaoke lounge afterwards, and you basically shut the place down.
I get it, all right, she has ghosted, So let's
figure it out. You can't think of anything that might

(02:01):
have happened.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
No, I keep playing it over my head because there's
nothing else I can't sure.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Go ahead and mut your phone. Let's do this right, Oh,
let's hope here we go. Well, Hi, can I talk
to Dana please?

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yes? This is her.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Hi Dana, this is Marcus from Star one one three
in the morning. Hi.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Hey, I've been listening to the second Day Update for years.
I have a feeling I know what this is about.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Somebody just checked.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Hi, Hi, So you're good to be on Second Date
Update because you know who is holding.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
I figured if I'd be on this it would be
because of something wild happening. And I have a story
for you.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
So okay, great to be here. Do I bring Felix
on an hour later?

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Sure you can. I mean, it's totally.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Up to you.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Felix. Are you there, Bud?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Hey, hey man?

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Hi, So Felix said you had a great time. This
was the date at the with sushi and then karaoke.
I don't know if you remember.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Oh I remember?

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Okay, So how did you ghost?

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I mean it was the first date, so I don't
consider it ghosting, but yeah, I obviously did not.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
That's like the fourth time I've heard that. So is
it not technically ghosting if it's just one date?

Speaker 3 (03:32):
I personally one date, I don't consider it.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Okay, maybe after I learned things every day, so okay,
let's not call it ghosting, but you're done.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah, definitely, all right, So yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Tell us about the date from your perspective.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Well, Hi'm Felix. I mean, honestly, it started off really great, Felix.
You're handsome, you know, you're funny. We had a great
conversation and then things kind of went downhill when we
got karaoke first. I mean, you definitely got really drunk,

(04:12):
like you were like leaning on the mic stand drunk
at karaoke, and I really was turned off by the
fact that you were snapping at the bartender when you
wanted another drink. I thought that was just so disrespectful.
And Scott was already bad enough. But then you got
up on stage and you started singing I'll make Love

(04:33):
to You by Boys to Men, and you looked at
me in the eye and it was just so uncomfortable.
So cringe. Yes, yes, and like for our first date,
I was just already you were you're very, very drunk,
and then adding that it was just such a turnoff,
and I was, yeah, I just didn't know why you

(04:53):
thought that any of that was okay.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
The visuals alone, Felix, what is going on?

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Okay, of all, Yes, I had a few. I mean
you had a couple of drinks too. We were celebrating,
like you were vibing. I was vibing. It's karaoke night,
you know, we had dinner like a party at here.
Let's go, you know, let's have fun.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah. And when you were king on the mic, yeah
you were. You were super bartender.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I was not rude. I was just trying to get
their attention because it's a loud place, there's music playing.
What do you want? Like, am I supposed to yell
at him? I feel like fingersnapping is like more considerate.
I'm not gonna yell it.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Have you ever worked in like a restaurant or anything, like,
don't snap at people. I think it's super disrespect. Well,
you can get up and go talk to them. You
don't have to yell, you don't.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
You have to get their attention. That's not rude, you know.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I just that's the way you treat service people. I
feel like it's a is a big tell.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I mean, I agree, but I feel like I wasn't
rude to them.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
I want to get to the serenade though, because that's
my favorite part come on.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
That is apt solutly a classic song for a karaoke night,
and I was trying to be funny. I was not
being creepy. You cannot yes, yeah, I was playing up
the song we haven't even.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Kissed yet, you can't be singing I'll make love to
you like It's just it was such a turn off.
I feel like it was just way too much, too soon.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
All right, Is there any shot at a do over?

Speaker 3 (06:24):
No? No, no, no, absolutely no no second day for me.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
