are you there? Yeah, I'm here, So let me explain
second date up there real quick before we start. So

(00:20):
Marcus went on a date with a lady named Jade.
You DMed me because she has ghosted and the date
sounds pretty cool. What we'll do eventually is call Jade
and have Marcus on the line, have him listen in
and try to figure out if he did something wrong
or if she's just been busy, or if there was
some sort of miscommunication that has caused him to ghost her.
So are you ready?

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:40):
So let's lay it out, like how did you guys meet?
And then what how did how was the date? Like
what happened?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
So you know, I was doing an online thing founder
on one of the little dating apps. We're out of
San Mama, Taylo area, and like after out, say let's
let's go to bars some drinks. You know, maybe eat
a little appetizer or something. Keep it super light. I
don't want to go all out, you know. I just

(01:05):
gradually worked my way into it. Wherever fun. You know,
everything was like cool with drinks of porn. We're laughing.
She's banning her eyes at me. You know, we shared
some fries. I felt like we really quickened.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
You know, I don't know if I farted. I don't
know what happens, but I just know that she ghosted
in the wind like a fart.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I love the metaphor. I'll tell you what. We're going
to regroup for a song, and then we will give
her a shout, and like I said, we'll see what's up. Marcus.
Are you ready to call Jade?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Okay, So we're gonna try to figure out why she ghosted.
Go ahead and mut your phone. I'll see what she
says about your date.

iHeartRadio out of San Francis. Go on Star one on

you might go on the air with me real quick.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Oh gosh, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Have you heard second date update?

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I've heard it before.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Okay, now, but well, here we are. So do you
want me to bring Marcus on now or later?

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Oh it's Marcus. Okay, it's up to you.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Okay, fine, Marcus either.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Okay, I mean, listen, we're all adults, so let's try
to figure this out. Jade, Marcus, okay, we can. We
can do that too, right into it.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Okay. I think you're a nice guys.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I really do like I like you.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
It was just a few things that kind of were
I'm not gonna say red flags, but just kind of
this is a little weird.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
It's a little weird, okay, just progressively got more weird
as it went on.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
What happened, Okay, Well, first of all, we went out
for drinks, and every time we sipped he would say
cheers to us, and I just was.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Like, this is our first day, you know.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
I mean maybe it was like a quirky thing, and
that's fine that you do that, but I just I
don't know. It was a little a little odd after
a drink, but cheers to us after every sip.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
It just was kind of that part was just a
little That's fine.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
I could have got over that part, right, Marcus Well
radio Marcus, Okay, So I could have got over that part,
no problem.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
I could have got over that part.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Were you still into it at that point? You hadn't
written him off yet? Had you not.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
All the way off?

Speaker 4 (04:03):
You know, I understand, you know with online you never
know what you're going to get. The problem really is that.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
At that point it just got stupid. Like I just
was like, okay, what are we doing here?

Speaker 1 (04:13):
What happened?

Speaker 4 (04:15):
He told me that he was technically between leases, which
to me is like borderline homeless. I just didn't know
I was signing up for dating a hobosexual, which that's.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Fine, that's where he's at. What now, a hobosexual?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
What does that mean?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
I mean, if you just break it down, he's just
trying to get some I don't know if you're trying
to find some place to live.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
I wasn't trying to be that lady. Okay.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Basically means that he told me, admitted to me, which
out of respect, that he's been crashing in his ex
girlfriend's spare bedroom because he doesn't have a place to go,
and I just am not trying to date somebody to
be the next place that he has to go.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Like, no, I didn't want to do that. That was
too much for me, got it, So.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I don't get in my own place.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
How come you don't have your own place, Marcus.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
It's just weird.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
I had a little situation. She needed help for me,
so I was trying to help out. But at the
same time, like I'm trying to get my credit right
and the pocket is a little tight because I'm in
between jobs too. So I'm in between jobs and in
between leases. Wow, so I'm just in between uh huh.
But yeah, look it's on the horizon.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
That's fine.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
I respect that, but also like, I'm not trying to
be in a relationship with somebody that is not established,
Like you should probably focus on your stuff and not
trying to date me.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I can do both.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
