Where'd you go? What'd you do?

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Pretty simple? We just had dinner, went to a really
nice restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Top of the
date was really good, you know, it's like good conversation,
just felt like there was a vibe and it's just
been like really weird and like barely communicating since our day.
And yeah, I just I don't know.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
I felt like before the day, you know, we.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Were like texting each other like back and forth, like
you know, this is on fire, but like it's definitely
the date it's like cooled down a lot, Like she's
like just barely texting.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Me, So she's still there but not really. Is that fair?

Speaker 5 (01:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Okay, it takes on like a day or two to
respond to attack.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Don't play, okay, Corey, your thoughts.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
I think she went to Thailand to study Buddhism and
has taken a vow of silence, probably not really checking
her phone.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
A vow.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Okay, Okay, Thailand? Is this a movie thing or a
TV shows? Loatus? Popper No. I knew it was gonna
be whiteladus tsunami. Okay, tell you what. Why don't we
call her and see what's up, Rudy.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
We'll have you on the phone, we have We'll have
you mute your mute your phone and see if we
can figure this out.

Speaker 4 (01:44):

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Talking to Rude who very simply just had dinner with Megan,
and the tale is they were super communicative, especially on
text before the date, and now she takes a couple
of days to get back to him. So something's going on. Yeah,
something went sideways. Rudy, are you still there?

Speaker 5 (02:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Good?

Speaker 1 (02:16):
All right, go ahead and mute, and let's see if
we can figure some things out. We'd love to see
if we can get you a second date. Let's call her.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Here we go. Hello, Hi, may speak with Megan. Please,
Hi Megan.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
It's Marcus and Corey from Star one one three.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Megan, Good morning, Hi, Hi, did we wake you? I'm
so sorry it's early.

Speaker 6 (02:44):
Oh. I just have a little frog in my show.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
That's funny. Do you you listen to our radio show?

Speaker 6 (02:50):
I do not?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Okayhold, it's delightful. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
So we work for Star one one three in San Francisco.
It's part of the iHeartRadio family, and we do a
segment on our show called Second Date Update, and basically
we're trying to figure things out. Somebody goes on a
first date and then kind of gets ghosted. And so
we got a call from a guy named Rudy who
went out with you and enjoyed his time, would love
to take you out again, and he's feeling like it

(03:16):
like the vibes really cooled off.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Did something happen?

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Did you enjoy the date?

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Do you mind talking about it? I guess is my
first question.

Speaker 6 (03:23):
Oh my yeah, I'll talk about it.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Okay with me? So, uh, how did it go for you?

Speaker 6 (03:30):
I think Rudy is he's a nice guy, but he's
just too big.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Wise, no like the Zeke body wise physically. I see.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, did you not know he was a bigger guy
before you?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I mean because he's online, right, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:52):
Honestly, I kind of feel like I got catvished. His
pics were all of him in the gym, and he
was working out well and he looked really good.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Huh.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
Well, I don't know, like I would say he was
easily forty or fifty pounds heavy year when I actually
met him.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Okay, okay, I mean it's that big of a deal though.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
I mean, I am just like not attracted to him.
I can see past it. But the fact that he
looks so different online is just I don't know, I
feel like I would like to got it.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Okay, Okay.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Here's the other part of this is Rudy is actually
listening on mute right now, so I'd love to bring
him in Rudy.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Hey, what's up guys.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Hey, so we got some answers.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Are those old photos?

Speaker 4 (04:43):
I mean, yeah, they're old photos, Like I don't look
that much different, but yeah, I was definitely working out
like hardcore.

Speaker 7 (04:52):
Okay when I took those and I got into an
accident at work, I like tore my shoulder, so I
had to have surgery, and like, you know, I've been
like doing a lot of rehab and like I can't really.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Work out the way that I was.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
But you know, my therapy is like very close to
wrapping up and like I'm about to get back on
my gride and yeah, I mean it's just I'm going
to get back to where I was, Like there's no
question about it. It's just I had an act then,
and I can't like train as artist.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
I could god it, So there's a there's a reason
for it, Megan, I mean, can we work through that?

Speaker 6 (05:34):
You know, I've been out on dates with guys and
I've been lying to before about this kind of thing.
Like I just don't know if I believe the whole story.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Wally, Okay, you really think like I'm not going to
work out like you think like I'm I don't know.
What do you I mean, I'm going to lose the way.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
Well I think that then what would be better to
just send me up after your lost all the way? Well?

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Wow?

Speaker 5 (06:06):
I mean like I can't, like, do you really think
I want to go out with you again?

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Like after I lose the weight? I mean, now that
I know that's the kind of person you are, why
would I do that?

Speaker 6 (06:17):
I mean, I'm really sorry. I just I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Wow, hang on, you two, hang on the line.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Please hang on, Rudy.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Rudy be happy that that this isn't worth.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Their third bullet dodge of the week.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Wow, the last seven days anyway.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Totally, Yeah, I'm definitely like, I'm definitely I'm just gonna
say my best self for somebody who, like, you know,
actually appreciates what I like?

Speaker 5 (06:46):
Do I am?

Speaker 6 (06:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Sure, yeah, so I appreciate it, guys, thank you, though,
I appreciate it.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
