Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining me in studio today from Rogue Theatrics is Eric
Mosley and Daniel Bradshaw. Gentlemen, how are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Well?

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Wonderful of course I get to spend a morning with
Paul James.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
The quality time is a good thing. It's good.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
And then you know Daniel's here too, so.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
Thanks, you're thanks Daniel.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
How are you, my friend? Well?

Speaker 4 (00:23):
I thought I was doing okay, but apparently I'm not
wanted here, so I'll be better once it's done.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Everybody thinks you and I are joined at the hip anyways,
so right, if I'm there, you're there, jam Paul, you.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Can speak to it. There is literally a chair between us.
I did not sit beside him. I won't say why.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
We will not say why.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Well, Rogue Theatrics getting ready for their spring Fever Amped
and Wild show coming up Friday, May ninth, beginning at
seven o'clock. It is a concert, comedy barbecue. It's at
twenty three North in Waldo and you can get tickets
today by going to Rogue Theatrics Live dot com. There
are several different ticket packages that you guys can get

(01:05):
involved with. First of all, guys, before we go any further,
this is your seventh performance as a group.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Is that what I've heard?

Speaker 4 (01:11):
A seventh show that sounds about right?

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, math if math is good and math is hard.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
I was told there'd be no math. I wasn't prepared
for that.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
But yeah, So.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
They've they've done more than a few and this is
based on barbecue concert comedy. Tell everybody what Rogue Theatrics
is and what they're going to expect when they go
to Walden on Friday.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Well, with Rogue Theatrics, you almost expect the unexpected. That's
and that's probably very clichde, but it's very true. All
of the performers are local Tamerian and all of the
sketches are originally written by us. And it's usually a
lot of times we'll do a show that follows a

(01:54):
certain theme. We've done our Halloween show, so everything had
a Halloween theme. We just did of Valentine's show, it
was all about love, dating, blah blah blah. This show,
we have kind of gone away from the theme aspect
and we're just doing random sketches that we've come up with.
The music is very much just a random set of

(02:18):
songs that that don't have a theme but are rock,
and I mean I can't I can't even tell you
how good this band and these singers are and it's
going to be a great show. Barbecue provided by all occasions,
so they are catering it, and it's going to be
a lot of fun. We will have a bar there.

(02:39):
We'll be serving beer and Seltzer's, you can get water.
We'll have some pop as well, and it's just meant
to be a good time. It's meant to be an
escape from what you may be dealing with in the
outside world.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Right Daniel, you want to expand on that a little bit.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, yeah, Well, really, like you said, this sketch comedy
is all over the place. We have sketches that are
about like travel, baseball teams, an author support group. We
have one about the side effects of a new pharmaceutical drug.
Any number of different things that you can imagine is

(03:15):
what the ketches are going to be about. But really
it's it's just all about fun and absurdity, and that's
what Rogue has always been. So I know that the way.
Chip Gregory, who founded the group, he founded an iteration
of it years ago and now has brought it back
here in Marion.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Here recently.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
He always says, you know, some places, you know, the
entertainment is more like fine dining. We're kind of like
a food truck, but you know it's a good food truck,
one of those that you go out of your way
to go and get that food. So it may not
be the classiest thing, but I tell you what, it's
really really good.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Right And you're not doing shows every day that the
seven shows that you guys have done have been over
the last few years, and you gone through different venues,
different things, and all of the shows have been very successful.
A lot of people always want to come back and
see you again because they don't know what to expect
the next time. They got an idea what the show's

(04:12):
going to be, but they have no idea how the comedy,
the music and all that's going to flow.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
I mean, that's probably the key to your talents, right
it is.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
We have a very diverse group that have a lot
of different talents, not just musically, not just in comedy,
but just in performance more than anything. Everybody has their
niche in the group and some of them kind of
cross over. You'll see people they're performing in sketches, they're
also doing solos. You'll see a lot of different forms

(04:44):
that everybody takes when it comes to characters and just
the way that we do things. It's such a talented
group and we do want there to be a little
bit of that unexpected nature to it, and we keep
the humor. We try to keep it lively. But also
you can't just when you think you might figure out

(05:06):
where a sketch is going, generally it goes in a
different direction, and that's part of the fun and it's
that redirect that happens, so we have a good.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Time with it. I know Daniel.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Daniel is the head writer for our group. He's the
one that really writes everything. He and I have collaborated
on some sketches together, and the writing process is a
lot of fun because I know and I can let
Daniel expand on it. But it's really based off of
different situations that maybe Daniel has found himself in and

(05:40):
he sees the funny in those situations.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Oh for sure.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Yeah, it's something that my overactive brain has done all
my life. I'll hear just like one sentence of a
conversation as I'm passing by somebody and it's interesting to
me and I go, I wonder what's going on there,
and my brain will automatically to start connecting docs and
be like, all right, I'm going to build a story
around that. And so I've been able to translate that
into the sketch comedy world. Now. So I was on

(06:08):
vacation and I heard a woman and with her heavy
like New England accent, and she said the word fluffy
and in just the way she was saying, I can't
even do a New England kind of accent, but like
like just that alone. And then I'm like, all right,
and I'm jotting stuff down, you know, an interaction at
a restaurant, something odd that you experience at the grocery store,

(06:32):
just hearing certain phrases, and it all just you know,
bounces around in there, and finally you're like, oh, this
is the idea. This is where I can go with that.
And what I've loved about it, especially here in the
later parts, is knowing the performers we have and being
able to play even more to their strengths and be
able to write a little bit more in their voices,
and kind of learning that process as well has been

(06:54):
a lot of fun because it's I think it's it's
funny on the page, but then and they bring it
to life the very first time they read it. It
just if it's at A if it's at A seven,
they take it to and eleven. And that's probably the
greatest part of it for me, is watching that transformation
take place and how they really level up the things

(07:16):
that we write.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Well, that's really interesting because you guys have all done
very scripted shows that are comedy and drama over the years.
You guys do improv, which is one hundred percent off
the cuff. You may practice a few things, but you
never know what's going to happen. It almost seems like
these shows are a combination of the two. You're writing
the scripts, but who knows when you do night of

(07:37):
what things are going to happen, how things are going
to come up, And if you found that to be
rehearsal on Wednesday Night to be okay, this is exactly
the way it wants to be, And then when you
do the show, you're like, Wow, that went crazy and
I love it.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I think that we always go in with the idea
that the scripts, we're going to stick to those as
best we can, but you're definitely especially the week of
the show. As much as you may not want to
try to change anything, you might see something that might
be like if I say this line a little bit differently,
or if I do this a little bit differently, it

(08:12):
might get a bigger laugh. And then you get into
the show and something might get a laugh that you
weren't expecting, and so then you try to build on it.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
And so we don't.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Anybody that's done scripted material, you generally are told don't
improvise much. Our group, we're not quite that bad, where
we're very encouraging off If something seems to be funny,
you're not going to derail anybody. That's the biggest rule
is you don't derail anyone in the sketch. But if
you think you can go somewhere with it and add

(08:43):
to it.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I think we.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Have a group now that will build off that and go,
oh yeah, I see where they're going. So now I'm
going to go there, still staying within the lines that
we're written, but taking it to a little bit funnier place.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
We're talking to Eric and Daniel with Rogue. Theatrics are
Spring Fever amped and Wild Show is coming up. Friday,
May ninth, seven o'clock. It's concert, comedy, barbecue. They've got
a bar. It's all at twenty three North in Waldo.
You can get tickets in information at Rogue Theatricslive dot com.
Rogue Theatricslive dot com. And I know Daniel, you guys

(09:21):
have a couple of different ticket prices based on what
you'd like to do that evening.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Talk a little bit about.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
That we do so, Uh, the VIP ticket is fifty
five dollars and that gives you not only the premium
seating up front, but also that includes the delicious barbecue
meal that all occasions will be catering for us, and
you get a little earlier entry to to enjoy that

(09:47):
as well. And then if you're looking for just the show, uh,
then that's available for you at twenty five dollars and
that's just more kind of open seating a little further
back in the room. So both options both very affordable
for a night out. Now, I do want to let
you know that if you're looking to buy those VIP tickets,

(10:08):
we have to give account for the food. So the
last day to do that is on Friday, May second. Okay,
so you've got to get that a week before the show,
but then the show only tickets can be bought a
after that as well. But yeah, fifty five dollars with
the meal and premium seating or twenty five dollars for
the show and general seeding towards the back.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Roguetheatrics live dot com. If people have never been to
one of your shows, a couple of things. Number One,
can they find some videos, see a little bit of
some of the things you've already done. And how would
you rate the show PGPG thirteen. How does that work out?

Speaker 3 (10:42):
So you can go to our Facebook page which is
Rogue Theatrics, and there are video clips from past shows
on there, so you can kind of see what we do.
It's definitely rated in our show. Okay, anybody that's under eighteen,
obviously if you have a sixteen year old user judgment,

(11:04):
but we don't want anybody that's younger in that show.
This is an adult show, and that doesn't mean Sometimes
you tell people it's an adult show, all well, they're
just going to be filthy. They're going no, no, no,
we're not. We're not overtly filthy with anything, but very
adult themes will be talked about and there will be
some adult language, so we want to make sure that
people understand that. What I found is people seem to

(11:28):
enjoy it because they recognize some of the situations that
they see on stage and they can kind of relate
to some of the things that are happening. So that's
where that kind of stands. But if you want to
see anything that we've done, pictures, video, just go to
our Facebook page Rogue Theatrics and find it there.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
There you go some good stuff. Guys.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Looking forward to the show on Friday, May ninth, seven
o'clock at twenty three North in Waldo. Rogue Theatricslive dot com.
If you want to get your tickets and get details
of Rogue Theatric Spring, Fever, Amped and Wild. And if
you're catching this as a podcast, do me a favor
share it with some people who you think might be
interested in a great adult date night out to go

(12:12):
see Rogue Theatrics. I know you guys would highly appreciate it,
so please do that because you guys have big plans.
I mean not just this show. You guys are looking
at shows down the line. You've got big plans for
this organization. After the last couple of years and you're excited.
This is fun stuff, man, it really is.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
And the momentum is growing. More people are talking about
at more places are asking for us to come and
perform there, and that's really the most exciting part is
to build up something that will attract people to Marion County,
but also to go out as ambassadors for Marion, to
showcase the kind of talent that we have right here
in Mary in Ohio.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
I love it, Eric Daniel, thank you guys for coming in.
