Speaker 1 (00:00):
Magic ninety five nine. Hey, good morning, it is Paul James.
It is time for the Waldo Summer Festival and we
are so excited for the Waldo Summer Fest that is
coming very very soon. It's the weekend of July eighteenth
and nineteenth, always that same third weekend in July, and
Ashley Klingle is joining me here in studio today. We're
(00:20):
going to talk a little bit about the festival, and
first of all, welcome, thanks for joining the show. Appreciate
you coming.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
In, thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
And now we're excited. It's always a great weekend. You
guys have put together quite a festival and over the
last couple of years have really grown it to what
it is and every year you're adding more things. So
why don't you tell everybody first off about the festival
and what they can expect that weekend in July.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Excellent, Yeah, the festival the third weekend in July July
eighteenth and nineteenth, downtown Waldo. We have a jam packed
weekend full of family fun and family friendly events. Friday
and Saturday, we have a free inflatable park for all
the kids to come and play. Big goal of ours
(01:07):
is to have an affordable event for families to come to.
Then on Friday night we also have a magic show
and a pretty big Touch a Truck event kids too,
and we have some pizza eating contests on Friday and
Quentin q each he'll be headlining our community tent.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, Quentin Beach is very good, young, Oh yeah, fantastic.
Everybody thinks he's going somewhere, so let's hope.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
So yeah, and maybe he have his debut there at
absolutely And then rolling into Saturday, we start off the
day with our five k run for Luke Fox. It's
a really really, really great event. We roll right into
the Waldo Tire Cruising and to our whole tournament, our
(02:01):
B three Memorial Cornhall Tournament. At that same time, our
live music gets started underneath our big tent and we
serve breakfast that morning inflatables again open up, and then
in the afternoon we're very excited to welcome local band
Good Karma, their acoustic band. They're hitting up our community
(02:23):
tent rock Shop from the Delaware Music Academy. They're bringing
some kids to rock out the streets that afternoon. Then
cl Gregory Music Academy, they'll be having hosting some people too.
That afternoon we have a kiddie tractor poll, we have
(02:43):
some characters showing up, we have free balloon artists and
face painters, and then we are going to follow up
Saturday night with a jeep rally hitting the streets, filling
them up with some local jeeps. And then at seven
fifteen we have our local homemade pie auction that benefits
the Waldo Pool.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
I love that some cool stuff. The featured entertainment on
Saturday Night is going to be Thirsty Travelers. They'll be
in the tent. You can get some drinks, enjoy those guys.
They play all around the area. And if you're not
familiar with Thirsty Travelers, everybody on stage you have seen
in another band in the last twenty five years, trust
me on this, and they're fantastic. Should be a good night.
(03:26):
Talk a little bit about the jeep rally. This is
brand new and obviously you were telling me earlier. The
car shows a huge success. It takes up a lot
of space, but then those guys all roll out and
it's like, what do we need to replace them with?
Let's bring jeeps in. That's really cool.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, Mark with Waldo Tire, he does a fantastic car
show Saturday morning. If you I think last year we
had over three hundred cars filling the streets, So again
that does take up a lot of space, and we're
like what do we do? So we thought, what better
way than to bring in some jeeps and so we're
given now a Waldo Summer Festival dust.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
You get a duck from.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Our first hundred jeeps that show up that night, and
we're very excited.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
It's going to be a lot of fun and like
I said, thirsty travelers, we'll be entertaining for everyone with
the jeeps and everybody else as well, and so it's
going to be just a fantastic weekend and has been
a matter of fact, I'll be there that morning doing
some radio. We'll be live having a little bit of fun.
But it's just a great community festival. You can walk
up and down the streets of Waldo and enjoy that,
(04:31):
bring your family and just have a really nice time.
And actually, let's talk a little bit about this as
a fundraiser. You are the president of the Waldo Community
Betterment Committee, which is an organization put together to make
Waldo a better place for everybody in there. Talk a
little bit about some of the funds that you guys,
when you have money left over, a cost a lot
(04:53):
of money to do a festival, what you do with
that money.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yeah, absolutely, Again, the Walder Community Betterment Committee is what
runs the Waldo Summer Festival. We take our funds back
into as much of it as we can back into
the community. Over the last five years excluding twenty twenty,
(05:16):
we have been able to put a little over ten
thousand dollars back into the community, helping families of fires,
helping families just Waldo residents who are in need, Pumping
a lot of it back into the school, paying off
school lunches, donations to a lot of the sports clubs,
the FFAs, all that kind of stuff, the pool and
(05:40):
so we're just looking to continue to grow and continue
to do better things in Waldo.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah. Absolutely. It gives the opportunity for you to come
down and help. Obviously, it is a basically a free
festival on the weekends. You just come in and buy
what you're going to buy, and enjoy what you're going
to enjoy and just have yourself a really good time.
But you're able to when you are participating in there,
help what's going on in the Waldo community and the
plans that this organization has down in the future. So
(06:08):
you'll be part of making things better and you're going
to have yourself a really, really nice weekend. Whether you
come Fridays or Saturday or the entire weekend, you're going
to have yourself a heck of a lot of fun.
Now here's something else we want to do. We want
to offer you the opportunity to be a volunteer and
enjoy being part of the festival. Tell people what they
need to do if they'd like to become a volunteer
(06:29):
and help put the festival on.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, volunteering is huge, as any community event takes a
lot of planning, but then the actual event takes a
lot of bodies to make it a safe and fun
environment for everybody. So on our website Wwwwaldo Summerfestival dot
com there will be a link where you can view
(06:52):
our volunteer sign up. We have two hour shifts. We
do give a free festival t shirt out to all
of our volunteers, So I really encourage everybody to come
out and give back to your community as we are
giving to you. Also, there is opportunities if you are
interested in helping run the next Waldo Summer Festival. We
(07:15):
would love and encourage anybody in a community to join
our festival committee.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Absolutely, that would be a great thing to do. Waldosummerfestival
dot com. And you're gonna get all the information that
we talked about. You're gonna be ready to come down.
You'll even get some tips on parking and how that works.
I know that you guys actually help people shuttle folks
from where they're parking and things like that. All those
types of things go on. So you can get all
that information at Waldosummerfestival dot com. But mark your calendar
(07:42):
and get ready for the festival eight is coming up
July eighteenth and nineteenth in the streets of downtown Waldo. Actually,
anything else we need to talk about today?
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Actually, one thing I forgot to talk about, which is
an exciting thing in the afternoon on Saturday, is that
we have Dean Tackett. Did you hear his fad?
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Fantastic?
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Oh my god, Well, Daniel Tackett this year where in
the afternoon we're kind of doing a little Wine and
Daniel kind of action.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
He sings standards and things like that. He is so talented.
Oh my gosh, what a voice.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Well, his wife is coming in and they are giving
dance lessons.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
They do ballroom dancing, don't they Yes, So they're going
to give a little bit of a dance lesson to
whoever wants to come before his performance.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
So he is a fantastic delight to hear and watch
her dance and them dance, and so that's really going
to be fun thing Saturday afternoon, and that starts at
twelve thirty.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
There you go. I'm looking forward to that myself because
I will be there. And I thought Daniel Tackett last
year was just fabulous and I became a fan instantly
and found him on Facebook and saw that he and
his wife go around and do ballroom dancing competitions and
teach it and all of that. That is a cool addition.
Waldoutsummer Festival dot com. Get your details and we hope
(09:03):
to see you in just a couple of weeks.
