Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is iHeartRadio's Maryland Business Spotlight, presented by Rosedale Bank.
Each week we hear from one local business owner letting
us know where they are in their business journey and
how they got there. I'm here today with Brian Snyder,
owner of be More around Town. Brian tell us about
be More around Town. What you guys do, be More.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Around Town is a Baltimore experience. What we've done is
we've curiated game day type of experiences, other type of
social events to just bring various people from various cultures
together to just enjoy Baltimore, Enjoy what it has to offer.
Enjoy the Ravens, Enjoy the Orioles. Whether it's on the
road or in Baltimore. We create this all inclusive experience

(00:41):
that you just show up for.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Well, let's start with like the Ravens tailgate, which is
much more than a tailgate. I mean, it's just like
a carnival. It's just amazing. Let's just start with that.
What happened when people come to like a be More
around Town Purple tilgate with you guys, what can they expect.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
They can expect to show up? Enjoy delicious food, enjoy
adult beverages. The best part of our feature is it's
all inclusive. You always see all inclusive, and then you
know there's all these hidden costs. Our events are you
show up, you purchase the ticket, you show up and
you enjoy and when you're ready to head into the game,
whether it's an Oriols game, a Ravens game, you literally
just pack your stuff up and you head in. We

(01:20):
handle the cleanup and the shutdown, so we handle everything
from the start to the finish, so allow you to
have a wonderful game to experience.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
I mean for one price. I know you have different
packages depending on but I mean at the base, it's
such a great price. People will be shocked to see
how much it is and for what all you get.
It's good food, different vendors. It's a free drink, not free, well,
it's inclusive drink with it all and the games that
you have there, You've got music DJ. Sometimes you have

(01:50):
Ravens x raven players coming in. I mean, it's a big,
big party. I just think it's incredible. There's nothing else
like it.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
It truly is. It's something that you know, we started
in a little grass parking lot and it just continued
to evolve, and each year I've gone back and forth
on how can I continue to make this experience bigger
and better. We do everything from some great artists. We've
had everyone from low Cash to Tamil Arts. This season

(02:19):
we're having Tyler rich Out from one of the tailgates,
DJ Silver, who is Jason Alban's DJ, so you as
you know you can hear. I mean, we go above
and beyond former players, everyone from the Ring of Honor
to Todd heat to Jamal Lewis. We've had right Lewis
on site. So yeah, I mean it really is. Each

(02:40):
week is a different experience and an experience that so
many fans look forward to before they're Ravens or Orioles game.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
But I can't stress to people enough. I've been to
enough tailgates. I mean I just went to one in
Pittsburgh not too long ago, and it was all right,
but you know, they had a guy just you know,
doing burgers on the grill, you know, and you have
to pay like a all inclusive type of thing, and
it's nothing like you guys. It's just above and beyond.
It's like a big giant cruise ship compared to like

(03:09):
a little tugboat to some of the other ones that
I've seen. You really do do incredible things. So besides
the Ravens tailgate, which I assume is eight times a.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Year, right, nine this year because we have that extra.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Game, yeah, exactly, And we have Army Navy, and we
have an.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Our Army Navy this year, so we're excited to do
to do a full ten this year.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
So yeah, and you do the you do opening day
for the Orioles, which we attended, we broadcast live. What
other events do you do besides besides that?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
So I would say our our bread and butter. Our
biggest piece of what we do is our away game experiences.
It is it is a memory like no other over
the years. This is our fifteenth season hosting these away
game experiences. People pay, you know again the all inclusive,
They pay a price. We handle everything from transportation, whether

(04:03):
that's airfare, boss, train, boat, whatever that is to get
to get you to that specific city. We handle the
game tickets, we handle the hotel accommodations. We bring our
tailgate on the road. It's the big top going on
the road. It's it's really cool to go into these
away cities just PLoP our away game experience and our

(04:23):
fans into one entity into this into these cities, whether
it's Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Nashville, Dallas, all the way to l A.
I mean we've been to London.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
And just seeing the seeing the fans of that city
just in all by the amount of travel and what
we put together for our fans of Baltimore to feel
like they're home one way.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Away, It's incredible. That's amazing. And do you do all
the away games as well? For that?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
We do every We do every every away game, every
Ravens away game, and then we do a select six
to eight Oriols away games as well. We just got
back from Brigley Field, Okay two weekends ago, which was
an absolute amazing experience if you've never been. We have
Oriols San Francisco coming up where we tie in Napa Valley.

(05:15):
So with these away game experiences, we take the city
that we're going to and we add in what is
that city known for. What if I was going to
that city for the first time, what would I want
to experience San Francisco, you'd want to experience in Napa Valley,
you'd want to experience Alcatraz, The Golden Gate Bridge. So
we tie those in to to what you would do

(05:38):
if you were doing it on your own.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
So I'm actually, I don't know if you know, if
I'm actually from originally from Pittsburgh. I lived here for
twenty five years. I love Baltimore. But so when you
went to Pittsburgh, what's the thing that you guys did
in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
So Pittsburgh, you always got to take them up what's
that that little trolley up the side of.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
The mountains, not the incli the incline.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I think that's I
think that's a Pittsburgh staple in itself. Everyone, you know,
every time you're watching the game, and then you know
they've grown over the years, but one of our staples
was always taking them to the original original Primani Brothers.
Yeah yeah, yeah, you know, you guys like French Friesen

(06:21):
Swall and Sandwich Is looked a little different, but but
you know, it's it's one of those things you got
to experience the culture. And you know, now they've kind
of built up around their stadiums, but Pittsburgh does have
a beautiful baseball park, Hindsfield or a center or whatever,
it is called now but isn't it. Yeah? For sure

(06:41):
it's an okay stadium, nothing like nothing like M and
T Bank Stadium.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
But the ballpark is is like one of the best.
I will say PNC Park is one of the best
in But I mean everything has started with Camden Yards.
That was the model, and then when they all the
other cities started building new stadiums, they kind of built
off that and maybe they improved a little bit. But
I mean, you know, Camden Yards is certainly the base

(07:06):
right there. But I think that's awesome, man. I mean,
you don't just go to these cities and PLoP down
at a parking lot area that you rented out or whatever.
You actually give the fans and experience of the city.
That's a great idea. That's like thinking outside the box.
I wanted to ask you, Brian, tell me a little
bit about you. Where did you go to school, did
you go to college, what did you study? And then

(07:28):
how did you get to this point?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, so a local boy grew up in the Landsdown
Arbutus area, went to Lansdown High graduated from Lansdown High School,
did a few years at CCBC Cadenceville, ended up graduating
from University of Baltimore with my accounting degree. Lived in
Federal Hills for a little bit, you know, because I
think that's everyone's post college life. From from Federal Hill,

(07:55):
I created be More around town in two thousand and
nine twenty ten, we started to kind of go out
with some of these events, and by twenty and twelve
the Ravens had their Super Bowl run. We hit our
stride and we just never turned back. So, you know,

(08:16):
I built be More around town from my experiences and
being a fan of Baltimore sports teams, and you know,
we would do this for groups of friends, you know,
fifteen twenty people, and people would always ask, man, that
would just be so much easier if we could just
jump in and do it. And that's kind of where

(08:36):
the idea came from. And we just continued to build
it and grow and it's taken it from there.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
So you started in two thousand and nine, How old
are you at this.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Point in two thousand and nine? Are now no?

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Two thousand and nine? Like when you started More around time.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Two thousand and nine, I was twenty.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Five, twenty five, twenty five. You started this at twenty
five as with an accounting major and you look at
what you created it it's just incredible. So was it
you or some did somebody else help you with this
or did you have a team?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
So, I mean I created it with a partner in
two thousand and nine. Her mindset. She had other personal
things going on and had wanted to kind of just
go a different route, at which point I focused kind
of into the sports. We had started it based around
social events, and then I went more of the sports

(09:29):
route as she exited. Yeah, and from there I had
a good, good friend and business part of mine, Chris,
who came in in twenty twelve and really really kind
of helped drive be more up.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
That's great man. And so since twenty five, I mean,
this has been your This is your main job, your
entire life, right, this is your career from the very beginning,
basically huh.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah. At this point, I was working for a local
company and actually in hand in they had offered me
a promotional type of promotion that at which point I
had to give up the quote unquote hobby of me
more around town. And I had decided at the time
I didn't have kids, I didn't have a wife, and

(10:14):
I wanted to see you know where this would take me.
So I didn't didn't question myself in the future. And uh,
I just have taken it and run with it and
and and hav't haven't looked back. And you know it's
That's one piece of advice I can say to anyone
is if you have an idea, you know, see where
it takes you. Uh you know who knows where it
takes you? Ye. But but but don't don't be afraid

(10:36):
to fail. And uh, don't be afraid to put put
your best for it best foot forward to see where
it can take you.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
So doing the purple tail gates, uh, doing the orils
uh stuff too, a little bit army Navy game. You're
traveling with the team doing away games. You got packages
for that?

Speaker 2 (10:53):
What?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Uh? Where do you see? The future would be more
ron Town? Continuing the success that you're doing. Are there
other things you're working on to broaden it? Or is
this enough? You seem to have a lot in your
plate already.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, so we can we continue to build our Baltimore market,
our Baltimore network. You know that's that's really my focus,
my heart and soul. But I have a sister company,
Big Game Travel that I created with my business partner, Steve,
and we have taken that and curated. Steve owns a
company called Sports Tickets Unlimited. Him and I joined forces

(11:30):
in twenty thirteen Super Bowl run and we basically decided
to take the idea that I do in Baltimore he
had done it previously, and put both of our expertises
together to offer this out to other cities, other fans.

(11:51):
So we've we've been growing that aspect where we actually
now specialize in all of the international games. That's through
our sister entity called Big Game Travel, and we do
all of the international away games, the super Bowl, a
lot more of the bigger scale type of events, whereas
be More around Town is solely focused on the Baltimore market.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Wow, that's great man, you are expanding. I love this
new initiative. It's fantastic. Okay. So Game one, first home
game for be More around Town on West Austin Street,
Purple tail Gate. What's that date?

Speaker 2 (12:30):
That is September fourteenth. We have DJ Silver, who is
Alban's touring DJ. We'll have Luke Portel, who I know
you've had some good time with in the studio. He
is performing at Saturday in the country, so we're really
looking forward to that, that is, before the Ravens take

(12:51):
on the Browns.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Yeah, we will.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Also we'll have some special guests from the two thousand
Super Bowl team. Both Chris McAllister and Paul Lewis will
be our former legends who will be joining us. Delicious food,
open bar, acts, throwing golf simulator. As you know, Bob,
it's is it's an event in itself. You know, it's
three hours, isn't enough? We need more?

Speaker 1 (13:14):
I know it's such a party and it's so worth
the price that you guys push out. It's amazing. beMore
around town dot com. Right, that's where they can get
their the tickets to packages, right, yes, sir, all right?
Is there anything else that I missed out on that
you wanted to talk about? Bring up about be more
around town or anything else you're working on.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
No, I think you've I think you've covered most of it.
I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
It's awesome stuff, man, Brian Snyder. I'm a big fan.
We'll be there of course for Purple Tailgate for every
home game. Thank you so much for the time, man.
I learned some more things about you, and I've known
you for a couple of years and I just I
think it's great what you do for the city and
for sports and everything, and it's just great. Keep it up.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Yeah, well we appreciate it. And on a side note,
I'm hosting your your Steelers in uh in In in
Dublin this year.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
So no way, that's great.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
That one's that was that that one's That one has
emotionally hurt me a little bit about you.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Know, to be a good time man. I mean, it's
fricking Ireland.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
You gotta go, Yeah, I know, how can you turn down?
You know it's it's it's one of the best Guinnesses
you could ever have, is can you split the g
in Ireland?

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Cool man, have a good time, good talking. Thanks for
the time, Brian.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
I appreciate it absolutely, Bob, I appreciate it.
