Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is iHeartRadio's Maryland Business Spotlight. Each week we hear
from one local business owner letting us know where they
are in their business journey and how they got there.
I'm here today with Eric Grittmeyer, director of Business Development
and Mental Toughness Coach of Life met Institute. Eric, thank
you so much for joining us. Give us a rundown.
What goes on at Life med Institute.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, I mean the easiest way. We're a concier well
iness center, so we specialize in age management, aesthetics like
lip filler's botox, vipos diamond glows, cardiac preventive medicine. Our
medical director is actually a cardiologist. And then the hormone
replacement therapy is the biodentical hormone replacement therapies. That's really
the core of what we do. We offer the weight
loss medications, semi blue dietears, epetide, they're called glps. We
(00:43):
do nutritional ivs, vitamin ivs, they're the bags of saline.
You sit down. We have massage chairs. You sit down
and rubs your legs, rubs your back. It's a rehydration thing.
All your B vitamin's vibe and ce calcium it's pretty great.
So the long shore of it is we're a concier
well inness center specializing in all things wellness.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Which of those are the most popular that people sign
up for.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, it's probably the hormone replacement therapies, Bob. We do
extensive blood panels, so it really differentiates us from other
wellness centers. We give our patients an hour to meet
with one of our providers. I mentioned our medical directors
of cardiologists. We have thirteen nurse practitioners, three physician assistants,
two other doctors. Wow. When we do the blood panels,
you get an hour with one of our providers and
(01:25):
you go through a di z. You've never had a
review of your blood like this before. You walk out
that appointment with a very very good idea of what
you need to do, whether it be vitamin supplementation or
possibly the hormone and placement therapy. Is that's a very
popular thing that we do. But that hour just really
differentiates us from anybody else who's doing these types of things.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
So the hormone replacement more popular for the women or men.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
It's really both. You hear about test offering and placement
therapies for the men that the hormone and placement therapy is.
That's actually my air of expertise. I love all things
women's health. I wrote my second book last year on
menopause because I'm just obsessed with it. Wow, very cool,
it's all things metapaus I'm not a medical person, and
I became obsessed with the topic because there are just
no resources for women, and you know, it's really one
(02:09):
of the only universal female medical experiences. Every woman goes
through it and it's just a matter of them getting
answers to questions. A lot of the doctors don't fully
understand it. So with us, we're able to get the
blood draws done, have our patients meet with one of
our providers. Then they walk out of that appointment with
a really good game plan, whether it be the the
hormone and placement therapies or again could be vitamin deficiencies.
(02:29):
But it's an adzy of everything happening internally.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
I'll tell you what a lot of people are really
thinking this way and coming in it's it seems to
be the past like five or ten years. I'm hearing
more and more about people wanting to do these type
of things that life med institute offers like the testosterone therapy.
I mean, I'll tell you, like, you know, fifteen years ago,
I'll be like, well, that's kind of odd. It's you know,
putting test of But you know what, you get older
(02:53):
and if you want a certain amount of health, if
you like, for me, I'm a big workout guy, and
you know I'm I'm in my fifties or whatever, and
now I know that you know, your muscles don't grow
as much as they do in your twenties doing the
same type of workout, and it's good to have your
testosterone tested to see if you might need it. If
(03:14):
this is something you want to do, I'm sure Life
med Is is the perfect place to get something like
that done.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah. Absolutely, And with testosterone, especially Bobby, It's one of
those things I feel like it gets mismarketed a lot.
Not every man is a candidate for replacement therapies. It
requires a blood pant, requires a very extensive review of
that blood point with a provider to make sure that
you're healthy enough for it. But it really does go
back to just you know, this is in this day
and age, we want to do everything we can to
(03:41):
prevent so we don't have to treat, so it's wellness
instead of sickness. It's proactive instead of reactive. So all
these things that we offer on top of the genetic testing.
We just launched that three weeks ago, so it's called
nutri genomics. It's a cheek swab. This is cutting edge
nutritional science. It's going to basically totally up end this
whole one size fits all dietary recommendations for more laser focused,
(04:03):
person specific based on your genetic makeup. So we launched
out a few weeks ago. We're just really excited to
give everybody all the tools they need to stay healthy
for a long time.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
So break that down for me. The genetics. So you
take a test and it specifically lets you know what
you need as far as nutrients and health because everybody's different.
What we have enough of, what you need more of?
Go ahead, you tell me, yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
So it's a chief swab. You do there are believe
it or not, the only thing that differentiates all humans
apart is about point five percent of our DNA, So
nine to nine point five percent of humans DNA is identical.
It's only point five of it that separates us. This
is pretty crazy. To think about. But we have about
twenty thousand protein coding genes. They're called we're born with
these genes. You can't change them. With us. We specialize.
(04:50):
It's called nutro genomics. So our goal is to show
you where you have these called variants. The official term
is called a single nucleotite polymorphism. So we find these
variants in your genes, and with these variants, you might
not be properly processing nutrients. Everybody's heard of methylation. That's
all the buzz right now, the mthfr genes. So what
we do is we look at your genetic blueprint and
(05:12):
then we're able to make recommendations for vitamins that your
body might not be properly processing, maybe some dietary recommendations
for how to optimize your genetic blueprint. But the important
thing is to know that you can't change the genetics.
It's just we find them and when we see that
there's that variant there, we just pay attention to it.
And just because you have a variant doesn't mean you're
automatically going to be predisposed to whatever it is. It
just means we have to be sensitive to it. But
(05:33):
we check for all that it's one time you get it,
you know where you are, then you're able to make
adjustments to again help you live.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Longer, specifically for you. That's what I love about it.
It's specifically for you because you're doing you know, the
test based on your specific DNA right.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Exactly right now. Every soon moments are hardwired differently, and
you know, it's one thing to optimize if you're taking
a whole bunch of selfiments every day, that's wonderful. That's
another thing we just launched in conjunction with our genetics
we also launched our own medical grade supplement line. We
had a lab that actually formulated them for us in
conjunction with our providers, about three years worth of working
with them. So now we have our own medical grade
(06:10):
supplement line. So if we do a genetic test and
we see that there's a variant in one of those genes,
we're able to provide the supplementation that could possibly, you know,
help you with any type of illness you might be having,
whether it be or your war out, you don't have
any energy, or it could be something that maybe it
might be caused a new sickness. We laser focus on
that and we tail or something specific to each individual person.
None of us are identical.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Wow, and you give that specifically at Life Med Institute
when you come in after all the tests that supplement
you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, So basically with the blood panels, we recommend for
the balk Our patients is to do the blood panels
in combination with the genetic testing. That way, when you
sit down with the provider, you have everything you need
to get a really good idea of what's happening. Then
an hour long meeting with them, then they make the recommendations.
We carry all of our supplements. You can also perchase
them online. The genetic test and also be ordered online.
(07:01):
We can ship that to you. It's a simple little
swab that you break off in the test tube and
you ship it out and you get the results back.
But optimally our patients, we'd really love for them to
do the blood panels and the genetic testing together so
that way we can really really optimize everything. Everything the
provider's gonna recommend to you, You're going to want to
make sure that you're you're supplementing for need, not supplementing
just the supplement.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
It's awesome. How long has Life Med is a tube
been around.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
It's been almost eight years. We're coming up on eight
years now. We have we're getting ready to open our
fifth location off the right outside of Philly. Our main
location is in Timonium. Then we have one in bel
Air in Hartford County. We have a Columbia location down
in Howard County. We have our Hope's Beach, Delaware. Then
our fifth one that's getting ready to launch probably beginning
of May mid May, is right outside of Philly. It's Westchester,
Glenn Mills. That's our fifth one. So we're we're going nationwide.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Congratulations, man, that's awesome. And how long have you been
with them?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
So I started out as a patient, Bob. Ironically it's
been about four years now, so I uh, I had
I had a total shift in my you know, like
everybodybody else, the trajectory of your life can be changed
at the drop of a hat. So that kind of
happened to me. And I was a patient there and
I became infatuated with all the services that we offered.
So when the opportunity came up to start building this
and getting the word on the street out there, they
(08:14):
were looking for someone to go out and you know,
do the events and do the TV and do the radio,
and do all the corporate stuff and the fundraising stuff.
And it was a good fit for me. I love
being on stage. I love talking about the product. So
I started out as a patient, fell in love with it,
and ended up being an employee the company. I'm even
more in love with it now than I went.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Wow, that's amazing, man, You're like a walking endoorserve the
actual product. Can I ask you what you went in
for or is that private? Do you want to not?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah? Yeah, So I'm fifty one. I turned fifty one
when I started went in there for low tess Osterroon.
I noticed that, you know, as a man, I think
we've recognized when there's something that's not quite working correctly,
lack of energy, some loss of muscle mass, some extra
body fat, just not feeling like myself. And I had
heard a lot about it. Did a ton of research,
which I would recommend everyone do on any type of
service that you ever are exploring, research it, educate yourself.
(09:01):
I did that. I went in, I started with testosterone.
It was a total game changer for me. And then
seeing all of our patients come through now and again,
I really love specializing and the women seeing them come
in dealing with the hormonal symptoms due to menopause. It's
extremely gratifying for me to know that I played a
small role in matt even I'm not a medical person,
so I'm not providing the medical advice. I'm just giving
them the information. I'm giving them copies of my book
(09:22):
to read. But it's just a wonderful thing for men,
for women, for young, for old. It's just a great
thing to know that we're optimizing so we can live longer.
It's not just adding years of life, it's adding life
to years.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
That's what we'd like to do, so real, real quick,
after the therapy. During the therapy, what changes did you
feel after you went to life med.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I was a whole new human. I felt like getting
out of bed wasn't difficult anymore, My workouts were great,
just my overall, you know, just like happiness. It was.
I just had recognized I was in the Marine Corps.
So I spent four years in the Marine Corps. So
like everybody else, you know, I thought I was totally indestructible,
and I made it to my thirties, made it into
my mid forties before I recognized that I was not
destructible in the struct so I gotta do something about this.
(10:02):
So for me, it's just been an overall just feeling
on top of the world is probably the best way
to explain it. I mean, obviously in combination with me
loving my job, but it's just, you know, you just
it's a whole new for a lot of guys, especially,
I feel like you don't really know how bad you
feel until you start feeling really good.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Yeah, a little weird to say that.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah, like all of a sudden one day you wake
up and you're like, wow, I didn't recognize it. I
it's allf at horrible. Now it's feel like a million bucks.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
I got you, I got you awesome. Well, uh, you
mentioned certain things the initiatives that you're working on there
at Life Ment Health. What other where do you see
the future with Life Men Institute? Besides you know the
new location outside of Philadelphia, is there something that wasn't
mentioned that's coming up?
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah. The main thing is gonna be the genetic testing vote. Really,
that's really been a bit cross in combination with the
metical grea itself means and then and then again going
back to the women's health piece of it. For me,
it's all about spreading the word and raising awareness. As
a man who's not a medical person, you know, I
do recognize that some people like, what do you do with about
medic boals? I again, am totally obsessed with it, and
this is all about concierge wellness and that's ultimately what
(11:07):
we are. Right Our patients who come into us are
not coming in with running noses and sore throats. They're
coming in because they want to feel better. And our
providers and our nursing staff, our front that staff, our
patient care coordinators, every single person who wears our uniform
recognizes that we're We're extremely grateful to have every patient
who walks to that front door. And for us, it's
just all about trying to spread the message on as
(11:29):
large as stage as possible to help people to recognize
that just because we get older doesn't mean we have
to deal with all the illnesses and all that stuff.
We can we can really feel good and get out
there and continue to keep doing our things so we
don't sit around for too long.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
And don't forget there's laser hair removal boattox. I mean,
you guys do micro needling. I mean the whole gamut.
You run in everything from you know, soup the nuts, right.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
We sure do. Yeah. We get injury a pair of
PRP plateleverridge plasma human cellar tissue product for a lot
of joint injuries. We have the Embody Machine, which is
bioelectrical impedance analysis. That's a machine. It's a body composition machine.
You can jump on there. It's a low level electrical current.
You can see where your body fat is, your lean
muscle mass, water weight, basal metabolic rate, visceral outipost tissue.
(12:14):
It's a total overbody comp machine. And then again you
mentioned all the age management styce, which is great. We
have We carry skin care products, you know, pretty much
anything relating to wellness we're going to offer there. And
our staff is very highly trained and they're just personable,
wonderful people. We provide a great service to help you
help you feel better.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Eric Tosh out your two books. What are they about?
Real quick?
Speaker 2 (12:37):
First one was in the I was in the Marine Corps,
so it's the emotional Marine. It's mental toughness, emotional intelligence,
critical thinking, objective reality, systematic sensitization, self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy,
social skill. It's all about how to connect with people.
That was my first book, publish it in twenty nineteen.
The Menopausal Marine. That's the name my second book. Yes,
I know it sounds funny, Menopause Marine, but I published
published at February of twenty twenty four, and that is
(13:00):
a very very easy to read books for women to
kind of cut through all the misconceptions tied to some
studies that were done, the therapies that are available, and
basically a guide for women to get answers to questions
that quite frankly, they're not getting right now. There's not
a whole bunch of education available for women right And
like I said earlier, you know every woman goes through it.
It's not if it's when. So for me, that was
(13:20):
a very very passionate thing. And anyone's welcome to stop
out there offs and grab a free copy of it.
If you're in Timonium or Columbia or bel Air or
Rohobe's Beach are soon to be up in right outside
Philly're welcome and grab a copy of anytime.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
I was going to ask where you can get it,
if it's there or Amazon or wherever that's that's very
cool and Preakness is coming up. Do I understand you
guys are involved in Preaknus a little bit? Tell me
about that.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, we are. So it's great. It's a good fit.
I feel like anybody who grew up even remotely close
to anywhere to Baltimore, like Preakdnus was the place. I mean, yeah,
it's crazy to think, like growing up that was just
absolutely you know everybody, it was all about pregnuce the
whole world. But you know, the whole year of old
around when is pregnant? And what cooler am I going
to take? And I know things have changed a lot,
right from the last years.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
And calm a little bit. Yes, sure, I'm just on.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
A little bit right, But yeah, it's just for for awesome.
I mean a lot of our patients participate, a lot
of our patients go there, just a good fit. We'd
like to be able to try to market as much
as possible an our rand. We have some things, some
giveaway stuff we do at our office and we have
some placards up and people can purchase tickets through them.
And again we have a lot of patients coming through
our facilities, so for us to team up to be
(14:27):
able to spread that awareness is a wonderful thing too,
especially when you're talking about uh, you know, the hometown event.
Everybody in Baltimore here, you know, relies on that's a
it's a big thing. It's a great time too. So
we're happy to be a part of it.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Oh, very cool, Eric, all right, anything else you want
to mention about Life med Institute that I haven't covered,
and then we'll get to where we can you know,
track you guys down.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yeah. I think that pretty much covered about we hit.
I mean, we hit pretty much everything that I can. Uh,
you know, I think that's pretty much everything we want
to have.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
All Right, we've got the locations. But online there's of
course Lifemdinstitute dot com. What about socials, Yeah, same thing,
just life Met.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
All of our handles were life Met on Instagram, on Facebook.
You can find us there. We're out in about in
the communities a lot. We're running around a ton, just
trying to get out and to participate in fundraising events.
We do a lot of boating events. We do a
lot of stuff on the water. We do a lot
of fund raising, a lot of golf events, a lot
of corporate events, I personally go out and speak to
a lot of women's groups especially, or just any company
(15:23):
that's looking to bring wellness in. But we're out in
about running around. Anywhere you go, you'll see us. We're
always handing out our free shirts, our free bags, our hats.
We got the best swag in town. We've got a
lot of money handed out our stuff. So we welcome anybody.
If you ever see us set up somewhere, you see
our tent, come up and grab some that stuff. You'll
see our bus down Ocean City. We wrapped one of
the buses in Ocean City with our it's our company.
(15:44):
It's wrapped on the whole one of five buses to
go up and down Coastal Highway. Then we have the
airplane flying over our with our flag on it. You'll
see that around. We sponsor the Ravens tailgates we do.
We did the opening day for Orioles. We're out run
around so you'll see our logo all over the place.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Man, I'm gonna look for all of that. I'm in
an Ocean City a lot, so I'll be looking up.
I'll be looking out in the roads for all that stuff.
That's awesome. Eric Rittmeyer, Director of Business Development and Mental
Toughness Coach of Life mid Institute. Thank you so much
for your time. I really love all this stuff and
really enjoyed you. You're great, fantastic congratulations on everything.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Here's man Bob. Thank you for having I really do
appreciate time
Speaker 1 (16:23):
You've been listening to Maryland Business Spotlight
