Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning to you man. That was a miracle the
way they fought that fire in New Jersey. Kudos to
the firefighters, and that leads off our Big three today.
It was a miracle fueled by the heroic work of
Ocean County firefighters that fought back one of the biggest
wildfires in New Jersey history, and it ended up taking

(00:21):
only one building.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
No residential structures were lost. We did lose one commercial structure.
Some outbuildings were also affected in several vehicles as well.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Coming up at A thirty five, we'll speak with Bob Nosty,
the man who had the one business that was destroyed
by the fire. The body is of a woman known
as Peaches because of her tattoo, and her two year
old daughter, dubbed Baby Doe, have been identified as Tanya
and Titanya Dykes from Alabama. They were found near Gilgo

(00:57):
Beach over twenty years ago.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Now, although Tanya and Tatiana have commonly been linked to
the Gilgo Beach serial killings because the timing and locations
of their recovered remains, we are not discounting the possibility
that the cases are unrelated. From that investigation, speculation and
theories by people and on the internet should not be
brought into this.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
And after the arrest of twenty seven Trenda Aragua members
in New York City borders are Tom Holman is praising
Mayor Adams.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
What's specifically important to me about New York's and Mayor
Adams was getting beat up by the left were cooperating
with us. Look what transpired the Look at the lies
we saved in New York City. Right at the same time,
we got the City Council follow a lawsuit to shut
down our memorandum, our understanding, the executive work he's signed
to get us some Rikers Island. We've proved gesture what

(01:51):
collaboration can do for the safety and security in New York.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
And a new poll is out and it shows AOC
Alexandria Oconsi Cortes is the most popular Democrat in the state,
maybe the most popular politician in the state, and would
beat Chuck Schumer if she ran for his Senate seat.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
But I really think she has her eye on something bigger.
I think she looks at running for president and taking
the mantle from Bernie Sanders. You know, Nate Silver said
that he thinks she could beat the pick.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
A lot more about AOC and the Siena Pol coming up,
but let's talk about the wildfires yesterday, the historic wildfires yesterday,
because the job done by those firefighters is nothing short
of miraculous. It was an enormous wildfire, and you'll hear

(02:44):
in a second some of them said it was spreading
like it was napalms across the ground, and those firefighters
stood their ground. We played yesterday, we played some of
the radio chatter back and forth, and you heard, you
could hear in their voices what those firefighters were dealing

(03:06):
with and they stood their ground. All those firefighters in
Ocean County are heroes today. They're still out there fighting it.
By the way, last night, I guess it was fifty
percent contained. That may have changed by now, but what

(03:26):
an incredible job by them. And listen, by the way,
if you were affected by the fire yesterday, if you
were in the area, if you had to evacuate, or
even if you were driving and you saw it and
you had to find another route, we would love to
hear from you today. You can call into eight hundred

(03:46):
three two one zero seven ten eight hundred and three
to two one zero seven ten, or go to our
talkback by going to the iHeartRadio app and look for
seven ten wor and leave us a talkback. There is
so much to talk about with this fire right now,
but leave it to say it was one of the

(04:08):
biggest fires in New Jersey history.

Speaker 6 (04:10):
Air Quality alerts in effect near the fire in South Jersey,
but they'll start at midnight in New York City, Long Island,
the Hudson Valley. The winds are shifting, let's track the smoke.
It'll reach New York City during the late evening, but
the wind strengthened during the day tomorrow and that could spread.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Some of that smoke all the way to the Hudson Valley.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
And even into Connecticut, meaning poor air quality for really
sensitive groups.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
That's what we're going to be dealing with today and
into tomorrow, right throughout the area. Last night, I guess
we heard from some people who had bad air quality problems,
people with respiratory problems, and it's going to go up
into Connecticut. But it's going to be You heard raced
Agic talk about that just a second ago, that it's
going to be. It's going to be tough out there,

(04:52):
but not anywhere as tough as it is out there
at Ocean County right now, where this fire spread so quickly,
so quickly that firefighters had a heck of a time
trying to control it.

Speaker 7 (05:09):
New Jersey has some of the most violatile wildland fuels
in the entire country. You know, everybody's used to seeing
California and things like that, that chaparral that burns up
them hills and goes crazy. Well, these pine barns out
here are the exact same type of fuel model. They
are just like having napalm spread across the ground.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
And right now what the firefighters are trying to do now.
I said last night it was fifty percent contained. This
morning it's it's probably like around thirty percent, but I'm
just guessing at that. They said they'll have another figure
out this morning, but they said they're really fighting it back.
The concern at this point, the real concern by the

(05:48):
firefighters is that it sparks up again, which is why
they are soaking the ground anywhere near the fire scene.
In the meantime, all of the power should be back on.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
At this point, around five thousand residents were under either
mandatory or voluntary evacuations, and those evacuation orders have been lifted.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
But as we said, it may be one of the
biggest firefighters in history, but it is definitely one of
the biggest fires in the last twenty years.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Ultimately, when all is said and done, a greater number
of acreage affected, and this could very well end up
being the largest wildfire in New Jersey in twenty years.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
So how much acreage exactly?

Speaker 2 (06:39):
The wildfire stands at about eleven thousand, five hundred acres
and thirty percent containment. We fully expect that that number
will grow.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
So there you go. That was the latest at thirty
percent containment, and there will be another press conference today
a little bit later at either ten or eleven o'clock.
But the bottom line is it was a miracle what
the firefighters did out there, and they're still out there

(07:14):
fighting this fire. So if you live in Ocean County
and you see a firefighter, just do me a favor
and go up and tell them how it'ch appreciate what
they did. They were outmanned, they were out gunned, and
they were able to control this fire. So we didn't
have one loss of life, some damage to cars and

(07:35):
some other buildings, but only one building was lost. It
is an absolute miracle brought on by professionals and some
great work by the firefighters in Ocean County. So kudos
to all of you. Let's talk about this pole for
a second, which is there's so much that is stunning

(07:56):
about this pole. For one thing, something that is stunning
is that Kathy Hokeel has made a huge comeback and
is far in front against the people that are expected
to run against her. Much of this is because of
the policies and because she is taking on Donald Trump,
who is extremely unpopular in New York State as you

(08:19):
can imagine, but there's strong support for Hokul's budget issues.
The school cell phone ban is a big deal, the
mask ban is a big deal, and so everything she's
been doing recently, apparently the state has liked. You'll remember
she was underwater in the polls and now she's popular

(08:42):
all of a sudden and is expected to win the
Democratic primary easily. And the other big surprise, and we'll
get to AOC a little bit later, the other big
surprise is on the Republican side. Now this was taken
before I will say Elise Stefonic got in the race.

(09:03):
They did this polling before that. So everything's going to change.
But in a race right now between Bruce Blakeman, who
is the county executive in Nassau County, and Congressman Lawler,
Blakeman wins. I think everybody thought it was gonna be

(09:24):
Lawlor until a Lease Stefanic came along. But Blakeman has
support across the state, not just in Long Island, so
what they I don't even know what to make of
this pole. It also showed by the way that Andrew
Cuomo still is at thirty four percent and that zorham

(09:45):
Mam Danni is at sixteen percent, a lot closer than
another poles. And I take this one more seriously than
all the other poles because all the other poles are
these polls that spring up and it's a little suspicious
who's paying for them. This one one really shows what's
going on, I believe, and so Andrew Cuomo again far

(10:07):
out in front, but it's a little bit closer than
in pass polls. The body of Pope Francis is lying
in state at the Vatican right now as preparations are
underway for Saturday's funeral, and in Rome is wour host
Rob Astorino. We're going to talk with him next and
stay with us because at age twenty five, we have

(10:29):
tickets to the Brotherhood of Rock Tour. All morning, we've
been thanking the firefighters in Ocean County, New Jersey, most
of them volunteers, who were fighting one of the biggest
wildfires in New Jersey history, and it was miraculous that
they were able to save lives and save structures.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
No residential structures were lost. We did lose one commercial structure.
Some outbuildings were also affected in several vehicles as well.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Now that's tremendous news unless you happen to own that
one structure, unless that one structure happens to be your
main warehouse for your business. Bob Nosty is the owner
of Liberty Door and Awning, and that is his warehouse
that was destroyed. So Bob, first of all, let me

(11:26):
just start off by saying, I'm so sorry that happened yesterday.
You must have been following along and wondering if your
business was going to be affected. Please walk us through
that what you were hearing about the fire and your
concern about your warehouse.

Speaker 8 (11:45):
So thanks for having me. By the way. Yeah, I'd
like to take a shout out to all of the
first responders who have been you know, next to incredible
working with us and you know, supporting us. The residents
in the community as well. But as far as that,
you know, earlier in that day, I was on my
way up the Freehold and you know, you see out

(12:06):
in the distance down south there's a fire, and you
don't think much of it. It wasn't until we were
on our way home after dinner and my phone started
to blow up. I understand that that the fire was
on the other side of the Garden State Parkway, and
I didn't think much of it, you know, but it
jumped the parkway and then just made a B line
right towards my building. You know, I didn't find out

(12:29):
until seven o'clock that my building was engulfed.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
And have you seen the building since?

Speaker 8 (12:38):
Oh yeah, yep, it's gone. Everything and it's gone. And
you know, some trucks that were close to the building
are gone. It's all gone. Everything's gone.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
So how does this affect your business now?

Speaker 8 (12:54):
You know, temporarily destroys my business because you know, we
don't have inventory, so we don't have a building to
store inventory. So that's what we're working on today. We've
got a potential building that we could possibly move into
over the weekend or early next week where we could
at least start start receiving product. Fortunate that we have

(13:16):
a secondary building down in Summer's point that we were
able to store some stuff in, so we've got some
work getting done. But until we receive you know, the
replacement product, we're kind of stuck here.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Now. I assume you're insured for all of this. Have
you spoken to the insurance company? Do you know at
this point that you're going to be made whole on
all of this.

Speaker 8 (13:40):
Work. That's a fluid situation right now. I'm actually uh
on my way over to the building now to meet
our first insurance adjuster, and then tomorrow I got another one.
And you know, listen, we were we were insured, so
I think we'll be all right. It's just you know,
the headache over the next you know, a couple of
months getting back on our fee. You know, we'll need

(14:01):
a storage. You know, we're going to look to move
into a temporary building and then find a forever home.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
And that's going to take some time. I'm so sorry
that this happened to you. I can't imagine what it's
done to your business. And for everybody to be heralding
that it's a miracle, and then you're the one guy
that whose warehouse was destroyed. You've gone out to see it.
You just said that are there other buildings in the
area nearby?

Speaker 8 (14:30):
Right next So right next door there's a building that
you know, I think he had some property damage, some
vehicle damage, but nothing to a structure, and the same
across the street. You know. The difference between their buildings
and mine is I had woods behind my building and

(14:50):
right to the side of my building, so we were
basically surrounded by woods. The fire trucks got there before
the fire hit my building, but by then it was
I think it was only two trucks, and that fire
was pretty wicked. I think by the time the rest
of the trucks rolled up, my building was already in

(15:11):
golf But you know, I heard a rumor that there
was forty to eighty fire trucks there, which probably saved
the other two buildings.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
No, I you know, it's funny that we were playing
yesterday some of the radio audio and they were talking
specifically about your building and the other buildings in the area,
and if you were listening or if you heard it.
The firefighters said, look, these buildings here are going to
be engulfed in flames. Do you want us to make
a stand or should we pull out? And they said

(15:43):
back to them, this is your call. And it sounds
like they stayed. It sounds like they tried.

Speaker 8 (15:48):
To see you out. They did. Yeah, well, listen, they're incredible.
This is, you know, a catastrophic event that was just
that fire was uncontrollable and the wind, you know, talk
about unlucky, like right now there's no wind, but it
was blown pretty good. You know. Those those guys put

(16:08):
themselves in harm's way for sure, and you know we're
all grateful. I'm unlucky, that's all it is.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
You're describing this as if you saw a lot of this.
Did you witness this?

Speaker 8 (16:20):
None of it? I wasn't there, No, I mean not videos.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
And okay, okay, So if you didn't see any of it,
not not just for your building, but you weren't anywhere
near the fire that you were affected other than your
building being burnt.

Speaker 8 (16:36):
They had shut down the Garden State Parkway and I
was in that mess, in that traffic, so it took
us a long time to get home. By the time
I got into town. I understand my building was engulfed.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
So, Bob, I know that there's a lot of people
listening right now who feel for you in all of this,
and it's odd to be the one and that had
to suffer while everybody else is saying, oh, this is great,
what a miracle it is, and you're saying, yeah, but
except not for me. And I know a lot of
people would like to support you in somehow, So tell
me where your store is and maybe if somebody is

(17:15):
in the need of a door or awning, they can
reach out to you.

Speaker 8 (17:20):
We have a location right on a Lacy Road in
Lacy Township that's still there. That's our office and showroom.
That's where we really conduct our business. The warehouse is
not something that you know customers would would go to.
So we're still open. We're still conducting business, just waiting

(17:41):
on inventory right now.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
And you can provide. Even though you had this warehouse
go down, you have the place in Summer's Point and
you can order. You can still provide all the materials
you need to install a door or an awning.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
Yeah, so it'll take a little time, but what we
can for sure.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
It would be wonderful if people came out to support
you when you went through all of this. Thank you so.

Speaker 8 (18:01):
Much, Bob, tell you this, this community is something else.
They've you know, they've been supportive, like it's kind of overwhelming.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Well, it's just wonderful they're there for you. Thanks so
much for talking to us today. Bob Nasty is the
owner of Liberty Door and on and good luck to you, sir.

Speaker 8 (18:21):
Thank you very much, said one to Doubuor to hear
Larry live and another to hear his podcast anytime now.

Speaker 9 (18:29):
Back to Many in the morning on wor.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Rich tomorrow from rich on Tech has heard Sunday nights
from eight to eleven pm on wo r at rich
on Tech on Instagram if you want to talk to
him directly. And Rich was just at a Roco event
in the city, a Roku event in the city. And
you know, Rich, I never have used Roku. Is it

(18:55):
worth it?

Speaker 9 (18:57):
Well, you know it's funny because I was. I was
talking with a bunch of people at the event yesterday,
and for some reason, Roku is the only streaming platform
that people actually love, like they talk about their Roku
like they really enjoyed the experience. Versus if you have
an Apple TV or a fire TV stick or a
Google You don't really say I love it. So people

(19:17):
really do like it because I think it was built
for streamers from the guy who started it back in
two thousand and two, because you just want an easier
way to watch streaming shows.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
I don't want to make this a Roku commercial, but
how is it different than Apple TV or the Firestick.

Speaker 9 (19:33):
Well, I think you know a couple of their features,
like their universal search makes it really easy, their universal
watch list. I think those are the main things that
people like about it. Plus pretty much all of the
apps are available, and they also have a lot of
free content, and we know that free streaming is kind
of the biggest growing area of streaming and Roku offers
a lot of it.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
So what were they doing yesterday? I mean, what did
you learn about Roku that you didn't know before? For
what new things are they offering?

Speaker 9 (20:03):
Well, they've got two new sticks and you know these things.
I said to Roko, I said, when do people need
to replace these things because they sort of last forever
And they said, yeah, we have people running devices ten
years old that are still getting updates. I said, yeah,
so you know, if your stick is slow if it's
not working that well. These new sticks are their smallest ever,
so you can plug them in behind your TV. They

(20:24):
don't block any other HDMI ports, which is nice. And
here's the key part. They're now power efficient, so you
don't need to run an extra power cable. They are
powered through the USB port on the back of your TV,
which is something that didn't work before. So basically self contained.
They start at thirty dollars and people seem to like

(20:44):
to bring these on vacations and trips. They plug them
into their TV and their hotel room, and that makes
it really easy to do because again the self contained
nature of the power. And then the remote control they
upgraded even on the basic sticks that start at thirty dollars.
The remote control now controls the TV power and the volume,
which was kind of like a big thing people were
asking for. And finally voice control they added that on

(21:08):
these inexpensive sticks. So it's just a nice package starting
at thirty dollars forty dollars if you want four K.
They come out on May sixth.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Speaking of streaming services, and speaking of a lot of services,
one of the things that these companies try to crack
down on is password sharing, and I know from myself.
I know I get messages all the time about someone's
using my account and they're not in my house. It's
a huge problem, isn't it.

Speaker 9 (21:38):
Well for us? Because now you can't share with your
friends and family anymore. It's a a I mean for us,
it was very convenient because in the growth period, all
the streaming services didn't really care, right, they just wanted
as many eyeballs as possible. But now that this market
has matured, Netflix really went in and said, you know what, Hey,
if you want to add that extra person, you got

(21:59):
to pay eight bucks a month. Disney did the same thing.
Now Max is doing the same thing, so eight dollars
a month. If you have a klingon on your account,
an extra member, someone that's outside your household, the next
time they log in, it may say, hey, do you
want to claim this account as your own? And that's
what they're doing. They know. They know when someone is
logging into your account that is not part of your household.

(22:21):
They can tell when you're logging in from you know,
Kansas ninety nine percent of the time, and all of
a sudden, someone logs in for Maine. They know it's
your kid off at school, so they're going to start
cracking down on that. So if you see the message
from Max, like I say on my radio show, the
free ride is over.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
I love this next story about Instagram because I thought
that was always a problem with Instagram that you had
to edit the video before you got on there. But
now you can edit it on Instagram.

Speaker 9 (22:49):
Well, they have a new app. So there is so
a lot of people that are like sort of Instagram
power users. They are using an app called cap cut right,
and we know that's owned by TikTok. Not everyone likes
the idea of that, but now Instagram and Instagram didn't
like the idea either because, like you said, they had
their own built in video editing tools in the app,
but they were very rudimentary. Now they have a brand

(23:12):
new app. It is called Clips. It's available for iOS
and Android. It's a standalone editing app that's completely free,
and it's for anyone who wants to you know, up
things a bit, you know what I mean, like make
their reels and stories and shorts look a little bit
better than the rest. You've got templates, you've got effects,
you've got those captions that everyone uses and while capcut

(23:33):
may charge for some of these features, clips is free,
so go and download it. I have not used it
just yet to make a video, but I'll try it
out soon. I mean I tried it, but not for
a video yet.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
I love that you take request Rich because I know
that you added a story just for me. Because I've
seen all of these photo apps online. They're advertised constantly
and they look amazing. They can take a picture and
they can take out all all the flaws, they can
create new backgrounds. It is amazing, and they do it
with AI. But I don't trust any of them right now.

(24:06):
I wanted to hear from you which one I should get.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
Well, there are, I mean there's so many. If you
want just one app where you can drop a picture
in and you don't even have to tap a button,
it just instantly cleans it up. This is the one
that I used ninety nine percent of the time. It's
called Radiant Photo and it's available for iOS and Android. Yes,
all these apps, any photo app like you mentioned that
are advertised, they're going to try to push you to

(24:30):
an expensive price. These subscription look for the little X
in the upper right hand or upper left hand corner
ninety nine percent of the time. You can use basic
functionality of these apps for free. Don't even sign up
for the free trial unless you want to support the developer.
But Radiant Photo is excellent. That's going to brighten up
your pictures. It understands what's in the picture and you

(24:51):
literally don't have to do a thing. So that's my
number one. If you want something that's a little bit
higher end, Remedy r em I and I. This uses
AI to enhance your photos. And again it's a one
tap AI enhance. I think I look like that airbrushed effect,
like your skin is almost too perfect. But if you
want something like that, Remedy will do it.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
And so some of these were they made you thinner,
they changed your hair. They it's incredible what they can
do with AI.

Speaker 9 (25:22):
Oh yeah, I mean, and you could use chatchipt to
do those things too. But I mean the apse that's
been out there forever is called face tune. That's really
when you want to say, Okay, I want whiter teeth,
I want to change my hairstyle, I want to sin
my you know, my mid section, something like that. You know,
all these this stuff has been around for a while.
I try. I'm a little bit of a purist with

(25:43):
my pictures. I try to keep them almost true to life.
But yes, I've played with a bunch of these. I
will tell you. Samsung phones, the built in photo gallery
has the best AI editor on a smartphone I've ever seen.
I'm not kidding, Larry. You can put your hand in
front of your face. It will remove your hand and
fill in the rest of your face. I don't even

(26:04):
know how it does that.

Speaker 10 (26:06):
And I don't mind the free botox from the app,
so bring it on.

Speaker 9 (26:11):
I mean, people like that.

Speaker 8 (26:13):
Now.

Speaker 9 (26:13):
If you want something really simple, there's an app called
touch Retouch. If you just want to kind of get
a blemish out of there something, you can just use
that to get like a blemish off or something. Maybe
there's a stain on your shirt. You can use that.
But I use a combination of all of these different apps.
I use an app called Pixart if I want to
put a picture into Instagram that doesn't fit. It's really

(26:35):
good for cropping or fitting a photo into like a square.
That's really great. Oh and then one more, if you're
trying to post something and it might have personal information
on it, you want to you know, block that out right.
So there's an app on the web it's called redact
dot photo and you upload the picture and it blurs
it perfectly and it's all done privately in your browser.

(26:57):
And it's a great way don't share the pictures with
like the blocked out like mark up on your phone
because people have been found where they can actually erase
that and see what's underneath there. Sometimes.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Wow, that's a lot. Rich DeMuro rich On Tech has
heard Sunday nights from eight to eleven pm on wor
rich On Tech at Instagram. It's at rich On Tech
on Instagram if you want to ask him a question.
Thanks a lot, rich Thanks Larie.

Speaker 9 (27:21):
Having a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Because of the price of homes, people are looking for
