Speaker 1 (00:00):
It seems like an odd time for an election, doesn't
doesn't it. But early voting starts at the end of
this week. In the race for Westchester County Executive, Republican
Christine Sculti is trying to unseat the Democrat incumbent Ken Jenkins.
Christine joins us. Now, Christine, why this sped up early
(00:20):
February election?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hi, Larry, so great to be with you and your
listeners this morning on wo R. Yeah, that's a great question.
Our previous county executive resigned and was when he was
elected to Congress. Then my opponent, Ken Jenkins, the Democrat
candidate who was deputy county executive last seven years, he
worked with the Democrat legislature to engineer a three week
(00:46):
election in the dead of winter, which is coming up
February eleventh, so a week from tomorrow, when the law
actually allowed ninety days, And obviously they wanted to prevent
a full airing of mister Jenkins support of the dangerous
sanctuary County law, as well as his support of congestion pricing,
(01:06):
which is a terrible, terrible policy, and his out of
control taxes and spending. But we're not going to let
them flip by the voters, and come February eleventh, there's
going to be a huge upset and we're going to
flip Westchester County red. And i'd encourage everybody to go
to Christine for Countyexecutive dot com and read about my
(01:28):
campaign and also follow me please on Facebook, Instagram at
christine'skult twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, that really does seem to be a miscarriage of
election justice. To have a short campaign when you need
to tell people who you are and get out and
talk about Ken Jenkins, it shortens a campaign and that
always always benefits the person that's already in office. Did
you challenge this, did you go to the courts?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
There was no time for that. I was literally nominated
a little over two weeks ago, and believe it or not,
early voting has already started on Saturday, so we're well
into the early voting process. So it's up to the
Board of Legislators, which is fifteen of seventeen of them
are Democrats. They with super majority. So we just had
(02:20):
to roll our campaign out, which we've done very effectively.
People are going to see my websitees very turnkey, it
has my video, so we are fully up and running,
and we're challenging him because his policies are very detrimental
to Westchester. And I'm going to restore common sense and
economic prosperity with four things, keeping Texas low, spending, flat, regulations, saying,
(02:45):
and people safe. And on that last one, the key
prong of what I'm going to do when I get
into office is repeal the horrible sanctuary county law that
he ushered in. And the reality is, on day one,
I'm going to send legislation down to repeal that law
and issue on executive order requiring that the county departments
(03:08):
aren't Corrections, Parten and Public Safety to work with the
federal government of course ICE and make sure that we
are detaining and having ICE do their job to deport
these dangerous illegal immigrants because they're making our neighborhoods very
less safe and people are very concerned. This is top
(03:28):
of mind for residents here. Now.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
All of that is important. I'm still blown away by
this sped up election because not only is it unfair
to you, that's unfair to the voters in Westchester County
who want to get to know you and want to
hear a lot about you. I know you've been out
in the community and you've worked in the community before,
but it's different when you're in a campaign and you
want a high profile. Can you tell people about yourself
(03:53):
now and what you've done for Westchester County?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Sure? You know, I up and watch Chester. I was
raised by a single mom. She had to work three jobs.
I know how tough this county is. It's a very
expensive county to live in. Frankly, I was chief advisor
to Rob Asterino for eight years where we kept spending
flat and ushered in economic prosperity keeping while keeping people
(04:22):
safe and on the economics I missed. Mister Jenkins policies
are just a disaster. I mean the numbers are staggering.
Spending it up thirty six percent. You have sales taxes
through the roof at over eighty five percent. That's a
half a billion dollars. So when you combine that with
(04:42):
staggering inflation, this is causing you know, families to not
be able to afford the necessities, right, gas, eggs, milk.
We all go to the gas station, we all go
to the supermarket. And that's what needs to stop day one.
So I'm going to slam the Brakes on the out
of control spending and taxing.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah, we have Rob Astorino on all the time. He's
a good friend of the shows. He was speaking highly
of you. He also said, now he became nationally known
when he exposed the Biden immigration midnight flights, sneaking them
into cities. In the Westchester County airport, he said, you
played a big part in that. What did you do?
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yes, yes, Actually three years ago Rob and I went
out to the airport hall held multiple press conferences, you know,
highlighting the fact that Ken Jenkins thanksuary policies were making
Westchester a magnet for criminal illegal aliens. And it was
the Biden mystery flights, as you say, And I was
(05:43):
proud to stand with him and let the people know
that this activity was happening, that Jenkins was allowing this
clandestine flights to spread the border crisis to Westchester County. Now,
Westchester's a very compassionate community, but we are a nation
of laws. We want law and order, and elected officials
(06:07):
are sworn to uphold our laws. And that's what I'm
going to do when I'm County executive.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah what and now we all know what the sanctuary
city policy has done to New York, how much it's
cost the high crime has it done the same thing
in Westchester County?
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yes, in fact, crime is up I know they like
to play with the numbers, but crime is up here,
and frankly, not only affects the the residents of Westchester,
it affects our small businesses, you know, to have economic prosperity.
It is a cornerstone that we have law and order
(06:47):
on our streets and that we have public safety and people,
especially small businesses, can invest in their community, open a
business and not worry that they're going to be put
out of business with petty thefts and things like that.
So one hundred percent you're right on that.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
I also think it'd be good for Westchester County to
have a Republican in and have a good relationship with
Donald Trump.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Yeah. I support Donald Trump. I was a proud delegate
for him. He enjoyed a ten point bounce here in
Westchester November. So we have the wind at are back
based on you know, the president's win handily on you
know electorally, looktorally as well as popular vote, and I
welcome you know, working with him in his administration to
(07:31):
undo the damage that my opponent has done with Sancturoy
County and the disastrous congestion pricing. So looking forward to
working with President Trump.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Yeah, we'll see if President Trump gets rid of congestion
pricing this week. I got a feeling he's going to
do everything he can to do that. Christine Sculty, who
is the Republican candidate for Westchester County Executive, thanks so
much for spending time with us. I appreciate your time.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Thank you, La, I have a great day to you
and all your listeners.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Thank you. Good luck to you.
