Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, I'm really excited to talk to our next guest.
I'm a big fan. If you've watched any roast, including
the Tom Brady Roast, which I think everybody saw, you
know comedian Jeff Ross. He is called the roast master General,
and he's always one of the best or the best
at every roast. What you don't know is that he
(00:22):
has a tour that is going to end up on Broadway,
and so we welcome to the show Jeff Ross. Jeff,
thank you so much for taking the time to talk
to us.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Oh yeah, thanks for having me on the show and
getting the word out. I love it.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Well, let's talk about it.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
The first Broadway tour to stop in Atlantic City before
I get there.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Well, let's let's skip the tour for a second. I'll
get back to that because I'm fascinated by the Broadway show.
It's something I would definitely go see just because you're
in it. But it doesn't seem to mesh Jeff Ross Broadway.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I love that. That's the whole fun of it. I
try something new, jump in it's the best. Yeah. It's
called take a Banana for the Ride. It's my first
time doing a one person solo show kind of in
the vein of Billy Crystals, seven hundred Sundays or the
old Jackie Mason shows on Broadway. I always wanted to
do a show like that about my family, about how
(01:19):
I became the roast master, and then at the end
I bring people up and roast them on stage and
I have musicians and it's a wild, full on night out.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Oh you sold me. That's fascinating, especially when you get
personal with this. Will there be? Are there going to
be surprises in that story that you tell?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
There are? There are a lot of things that happen
to me along the way. I say, what doesn't kill you,
mate makes you funnier. And anybody going through any kind
of tough challenges emotionally right now in their life, I
think this is something to come to. It'll be very cathartic.
I see people laughing. I see people getting emotional while
(01:58):
I tell some of these stories, and they always end
with a huge laugh. My idea, you know, my mission
is to make people feel good to be for it
to be a cathartic experience for the audience.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Oh that's great. Now talk about the tour. Will part
of the tour be getting ready for Broadway. Are you
going to be doing the same thing on tour or
is that strictly a comedy tour.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Oh no, I'm gonna I'm gonna be working out the show,
so I need feedback. So before I get to Broadway,
hopefully this year, hopefully by the fall, I'll have worked
it out at a bunch of the hard rocks across
the country, and you guys are in New York. I
think the closest one might be ac I used to
love going down to Atlantic City with my dad to
(02:42):
go see Don Rickles and go gamble down there. So yeah,
it's an adventure. It's definitely a departure for me, and
I know my fans will enjoy it. I hope new
people kind of jump in too.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
That's really smart though, to work this all out going
across the country, it's like opening the Broadway play somewhere else,
but you'll be performing it. Would you call it stand up?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
I would call it stand up. If you're a fan
of my stand up, then I definitely think then I
think you'll be. This is a good way into this,
But it's more than that. It's dramatic and it's musical,
and it's roasting and because I am who I am.
I'm a stand up. I think the crazy like jokes,
(03:29):
the over the top jokes youre used to singing me
do on the roasts, those are in there too, don't
warn well.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
The Atlantic City dates, by the way, are July eighteenth,
Friday July eighteenth, and Saturday July nineteenth at the Hard
Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Since I have you,
Jeff something, I'm sure you've been asked about a lot,
but it always fascinated me with the Tom Brady roast,
and I think you probably already know what I'm going
(03:57):
to ask you. When Tom Brady came up to you
and told you to cut that s out when you
were talking about someone who was always a father to him,
what were you thinking at that time?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I was thinking, you know, like, i'm's my friend, So
it didn't really occur to me that I was doing
anything wrong. I was just having fun in the moment,
and all my jokes are so provocative. I just figured
he was having fun, and to this day that's what
I think. There's no hard feelings ever at these roasts.
Tom Brady is such a good sport. I mean, he
(04:32):
took the hits and that was a hard roast. I
mean people went Nicki Glazer, Kevin Hart. They went in
on him so hard. I mean I came out dressed
as OJ, so he didn't know what was coming out.
So I got to get him credit for taking the
hits for three hours so the rest of us could
forget our problems.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
He looked pretty serious to me. But thank you so
much for your time. Comedian Jeff Ross the Roastmaster General.
He is going on tour across the country. It's going
to end up here on Broadway, but you can see
him in Atlantic City Friday, July eighteenth and July nineteenth
at the at the hard Rock Hotel and Casino in
(05:11):
Atlantic City. Thanks so much. Jeff, would love to have
you back to talk about the Broadway play.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Oh, I got to come back when we when we
when we open. That'd be awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Thank you. That's wonderful, What a pleasure.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I grew up listening to this station, so this is
a thrill. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Oh, thank you for that, Jeff. Yeah, how about that
all right? Jeff, thanks a lot, Thanks you. Wow. He
was great. He was different than I thought he was
gonna be. I hope he comes in studio and see
him roast you. That's what I was worried about. I'm
thinking of myself, what are we doing with an insult comic?
Help me? Look me up. You know there's a man
(05:47):
I was. I was worried. But did you see the
Tom Brady thing? Oh yeah, well clips of.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
It would have happened.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
He wasn't kidding. I was shaking. Yeah, he was not kidding.
