Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning to you.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Thanks for being with us this morning. I'm a little
upset after hearing Jacqueline Carl's newscast because I was a
reporter for over forty years. You know how many stories
I've covered. I have covered thousands of stories, easily, thousands
of stories, usually to a day. And I've covered a
lot of stories with Chinese nationals. And I've never gotten
(00:24):
a bag of cash.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
You know, maybe you didn't do something right. This very
strange customs. Well, apparently it happens all the time. Did
you hear the statement they put out? It happens all
the time. It's just a show of friendship, it's a
show of appreciation. I never got one.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Never.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
They must have not liked my stories. So anyway, just
a tad upset. But we're also worried about today's forecast
because we really don't know. I guess, I guess there's
been forecasts of exactly what's going to happen along the
Jersey shore, but we're not really positive how much we're
(01:04):
gonna get and how big it's gonna get, how big
the waves are gonna be, how high the winds are
gonna be. There's a forecast of it but I'll tell
you what. Erin moves a few miles closer to shoreline
or away from shoreline, things can drastically change. And that's
what's in the Big three today. Today is the day
we've been warning about. When we get a glancing blow
(01:27):
from that powerful hurricane out in the Atlantic named Erin,
it's gonna be a really, really, really bad beach day.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Nobody is allowed onto the beach. As a matter of fact,
there are gates to block people from actually walking out
on the sand. There are no lifeguards, red flagged warnings
everywhere along the Jersey shore.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
So how bad is it going to be? And also
what precautions are being taken just in case, I mean
just say, it's worse than they thought it was gonna be.
What precautions are being taken? We're gonna have of the
mayor of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Anthony v Oz coming
up at seven point thirty five, speaking of mayors and
the mayor's race. Former Governor Cuomo denied the New York
(02:11):
Times story that he had a conversation with Donald Trump.
Remember that he came out The New York Times said
he had a big conversation about how to stop zorin
mom Donnie denied ever having that conversation, and then he
bragged that he did have the conversation to donors in
the Hamptons.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
But he's in the city.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
He's anti Trump. When he's out in the Hamptons, he
loves Trump.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
Make up your mind, Cuomo.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
We'll talk more about that coming up. The first of
what is expected to be many lawsuits is filed in
the breakout of Legionnaire's disease in Haarlem, and according to
the lawyers involved, there's a larger message to the city quare.
Speaker 8 (02:50):
Locations test at positive only in hallm We have to
make sure that Halem gets the same attention, the same
respect as every other part of New York.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
They'ressuming the people that own the buildings because they said
they didn't treat their cooling towers well, the ones that
are up on the roof, and because of that, they
say that caused Legionnaire's disease. Subway, train and bus drivers
are giving an earfull to the MTA about their plans
to increase fares at public hearings.
Speaker 9 (03:27):
I already said the people jumpy turnstalls and not paying
the fair Sha La Gaidom.
Speaker 10 (03:32):
Please take us into consideration.
Speaker 11 (03:35):
We cannot afford anything else in Texas.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Tense exchanges in the debate over redistricting after the finally
the Democrats came back to town to vote.
Speaker 12 (03:50):
You own the walkout. You said you did that, But
don't come into this body and say we didn't include you.
You left us for eighteen days and that's wrong.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
And before that redistricting debate, the parents of the children
who died in the Texas flood reminded them all that
none of them were there for their children.
Speaker 7 (04:13):
Protocols that should have been in place were ignored. As
a result, my daughter was stolen from us.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
It was heartbreaking. Now they are going to pass a
bill to make it safer, the one they should have
passed before tragedy happened. And let's hand this on a
high note, shall we. Let's congratulate the fair Field Little
League Baseball team. They are going to the Little League
World Series.
Speaker 11 (04:45):
Another complete game for Luca Pellegrini.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Cominance has Connecticut moves to free and oh.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
All right, now I want to talk a little bit
about Russia because you're gonna hear. I heard it coming in,
I heard it driving in. I heard it before I
went to bed last night. You're gonna hear from a
lot of media outlets, Uh, deal's dead. Oh look at that.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Look at that.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Trump told us he was gonna have peace, and it's
not gonna have it. Well, that's so embarrassing for him.
It is amazing that they think somehow Vladimir Putin could
come here and make some promises, say what he hoped
to do, and go back and there'd be no debate
(05:32):
in Russia that Putin, for some reason, is a dictator
with no dissent. You know, they do have something like
our Congress, they do have the public Borough, they do
have other people there that are very powerful, and those
people are speaking out.
Speaker 13 (05:54):
This will not work. We've already explained more than once
that Russia does not overstate its interest, but we will
ensure legitimate interest firmly and harshly. Discussing security issues without
the Russian Federation is a utopia, a road to nowhere, right, And.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
He was speaking for the Russian Federation. So all the
things we're hearing from Russia right now that is breathlessly
being reported by MSNBC and CNN. The deal is falling
apart because they are cheering for peace. To fall apart.
What a horrible position to be in that you dislike.
(06:28):
And the Democrats are too. They dislike Donald Trump so much.
They hope this doesn't work. They hope he has egg
on his face, all because they want more political power.
Now they've come up with no policies that would lend
people to vote for them. Is there anything they've done
that you think to yourself, you know what I'm gonna
I'm gonna vote Democratic. The only thing they have is
(06:51):
anti Trump, put down Trump. Hope he fails. He hasn't yet,
but they're hoping there's gonna be that time. And sometimes
they try to manufacture failure and then they always look silly.
Over and over again. They manufacture failure and they look
stupid because it's a success. So I'm not saying I look,
(07:12):
there's a long way to go. Peace deals are difficult.
It's amazing what happened in Alaska that really truly is amazing.
That he had that meeting, and he's trying to bring
peace to a war that he did not start, to
a war that never should have started. And as he
(07:33):
tries to bring peace, you have these little nitpicking people
in the background that are annoying, going hope you fail,
hope you fail, hope you fail. And it's amazing that
we're in that place. If you were a Democrat, wouldn't
you be smart, If you were in the media, wouldn't
you be smart and be sad when something like this happens.
(07:56):
You know, I really am hoping for peace and this
one case, I really am pulled for the president and
I hope we can make peace, not constantly saying well,
he's lying to us. No, No, it's never gonna happen.
It's a horrible place to be in and you're never
gonna win another election when you're like this. So in
the meantime, and we learned this from Jordana Miller, You'll
(08:17):
remember that right before there is a ceasefire or a
peace deal, the escalation happens. Remember that during right before
the ceasefire talks in Iran, they were firing missiles back
and forth between Israel and Iran. And we talked to
Jordana Miller. She says, every time we're close to peace,
every time we're close to a ceasefire, this is exactly
(08:37):
what happens. And that's what's happening right now in Ukraine.
The two sides are firing missiles at each other. What
I didn't know is one of the errant drone missiles
hit Poland, and I guess that shouldn't be surprising, but
it happens apparently all the time.
Speaker 14 (08:59):
Once again, we're dealing with a provocation by the Russian
Federation with a Russian drone. Russia will never admit to this,
just as it hasn't admitted to any of the eight
incidents in Meldova, three incidents in Romania, three incidents in Lithuania,
two incidents in Latvia, and one incident in Bulgaria involving drones.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, that's concerning because the countries that were listed there
are NATO countries, and you know that could something were
really to happen bad, like a drone hits a school
or a hospital that could pull in an Article five
and really start a war. I didn't know that was
happening as much as it does. But let's end this
(09:38):
with the fact that the Democrats are now starting to
see how ridiculous that the rest of their party has been.
Like Stephen A. Smith was on his podcast, and I'm
going to end with this, but we.
Speaker 9 (09:53):
Ain't going to act like he caused this now his
Democrats in office. It was boded in office when a
full fledged war against Ukraine took place courtesy of Russia's instigation.
No matter what they try to say to Trump, it
was Russia that invaded Crimea, and that was under the
Obama administration.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
It was Clinton in office when you made a deal
that this armed Ukraine.
Speaker 9 (10:20):
And therefore weakened them, leaving them dependent on the United States.
Speaker 12 (10:23):
Right.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
And it goes on and on and on. Ukraine was
compiling troops under the Biden administration and he did nothing.
We'll end with that. An important tip for pickpockets, don't
wear a ponytail. We'll explain why that's a bad idea next.
I'm still blown away by this bag of cash story.
It is the most I think it's the most fascinating
(10:45):
story of the day. If you didn't hear Jacqueline's newscast
at the beginning of the show, she reported on this.
It is a longtime advisor to New York City Mayor
Eric Adams, who was fired from the administs station but
still working. You may remember the name when she was charged,
Winnie Greco. When all those chargers were coming out against
(11:07):
the Adams administration. Well, the local news site The City
reports that Winnie Greco pressed a bag of potato chips
into her hands, containing a red envelope with one hundred
dollars bill and several twenty dollars bill into the hands
(11:28):
of Katie Honan, who, by the way, on the weekend
show I've had on a couple of times. She's a
great reporter for the city, and The City, by the way,
is a tremendous site to read, just for netty gritty politics.
But so she opens the bag and there's one hundred
dollars bill and several twenty dollar bills inside of it,
(11:51):
and she has scrutinized Winnie Greco in the past. But
this is the part that fascinates me. They didn't hide
from it, they didn't deny it Whennie Greco's lawyer rights,
this was not a bag of cash, and it was
a potato chip bag with cash inside of it. This
(12:11):
was not a bag of cash. In the Chinese culture,
money is often given to others in a gesture of
friendship and gratitude, and that's all that was done here.
Winnie's intention was purely out of kindness. And what I
said at the top of the show was the first
thing I thought of. I guess I've never been good
(12:35):
to anybody because I've never gotten this and it sounds
like and I've covered Chinese nationals before, I've certainly covered
Chinese nationals and never never got a bag of cash,
never even got a potato chip bag from them. But
you have to feel bad for Mayor Adams after a while.
(12:56):
You have to feel bad for him. Every time he
tries to put this stuff behind him, something like this
comes out. And by the way, someone else from his department,
Ingrid Lewis Martin, is expected to face more charges for
allegedly accepting handouts as well. So it's going to be Zorin, Mom, Donnie,
(13:18):
that's who's going to win. That's who's going to win.
But the bag of cash story is absolutely the story
of the day. Yeah, we've had Katie Honen on before.
I know Natalie's going to reach out there to see
if she'll come on, to find out if she thought
it was just a friendly present, and then we can
lead people to her story today, which I'm sure she's
(13:40):
writing in the city. Now we're going to talk about
the supermom. The supermom who was in Italy on vacation.
Now Supermom shared this with her daughter. She and some
friends were looking for their hotel and there were some women,
young girls, who were trying to slow her down, constantly
(14:02):
trying to slow her down, and she was suspicious. And
then she noticed her purse was unzipped and that everything
in it was gone. Everything out of her bag was stolen.
They unzipped her bag, they distracted her, unzipped her bag,
and they stole everything out of it. Now she was
able to trace some of it because of she had
(14:24):
air tags on everything, including her wowat, and so she
was able to trace everything on it. Now. She wrote
the there's a series of texts that they have gone
viral that she wrote to her TikTok daughter who's an influence.
Her name Caris, and the text reads, when we were
looking for our hotel, my purse was stolen out of
my zipped up book bag. We have spent the afternoon
(14:49):
dealing with this. Fortunately someone found it and turned it
into the US liaison at the airport. Except the next
picture shows her mother holding one of the girls by
her ponytail, trying to get it back, and her saying
to her, you stole my purse. My passport is in
(15:12):
that And in the follow up video you can see
the girls all kicking her and fighting with her while
she has this vice hold on the girl's the girl's
ponytail until the and they ran off with the bag again.
And then some other people helped out. I mean, when
(15:35):
you see this woman, you're gonna help her. Some of
the other women helped out, so she got the purse back.
But I love how she started off just so plainly,
not like, hey, guess what, I took on some muggers,
some young girls, and I got my purse back. That's
how I would lead with that story. Her lead with
that story was I lost my purse. I have to
(15:56):
go try to find it. Felice are gonna get it
back to me? It is uh, the girls were kicking
and fighting still when she went away. That's from the
videos that we're on here. You can see it for
yourself online. By the way, her name is Kars McElroy.
She goes by Carris and she shared all of these. Now,
let's get the News at six point thirty with Jacqueline
(16:18):
Carl Jacqueline.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Larry, Good morning, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is celebrating state's
House passage of a plan to redraw congressional maps. The
governor said in a statement Wednesday evening he'll sign the
bill when it reaches his desk. The new congressional maps
would give Republicans five more seats in the US House.
Swimming and surfing are now banned at many tri State
beaches through at least today, because of Hurricane Aeron.
Speaker 15 (16:41):
Aarin won't make landfall on the East Coast, but it's
causing dangerous rip currents and high surf. These folks are
at the Rockaways.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
It is pretty wild out there.
Speaker 16 (16:49):
We were wondering why the parking lot wasn't as.
Speaker 17 (16:51):
Full as normal.
Speaker 8 (16:52):
I'm a pretty songe but ow, and that's with the ocean,
you know.
Speaker 18 (16:55):
And I think that if they say stay out, it's
just stay out.
Speaker 15 (16:59):
New York City line guards aren't on duty. The park's
enforcement patrol is positioned along the coast to make sure
no one goes in the water. Meanwhile, Governor Hokel has
ordered state parks to suspend swimming at Long Island beaches,
and many Jersey shore communities have imposed swimming bands. As
Governor Murphy is urging people not to go into the ocean.
Kristen Mark's woor News. Did you ever know somebody who
(17:20):
did this? I'm sure you've seen these teenage bedrooms growing up.
According to the Daily Star in Westchester, Ohio, there's an
intersection well known to locals because it's constantly at risk
of being stolen. It's at the intersection of Grin Drive
and Barrett Road. Now in the UK village of Belper, Derbyshire,
(17:41):
there's a similar annoyance. The sign marking knob Lane is
also constantly being swipe by those enjoying a giggle because
of it, Locals brand the culprit says thieving knobheads who
snap a selfie by the side and then take it
home as a souvenir. Did you ever see street signs
in someone's house when you growing up? Because it's like
it has their name on it, or it's kind of
(18:03):
funny you.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Ever go into a college dorm? Exactly exactly. But I
feel like if they just walked around Belvet, Derbyshire, they
could go house to house and probably collect all those
signs back because I think it's I'm sure a lot
of tourists do it too, but I bet a lot
of teenagers there or anybody have stole the old nob
(18:24):
Lane signed.
Speaker 10 (18:25):
It's just changed the name of the street. Yeah, problem
anymore boring Bend. Thanks so much, Jacqueline Carl Does Andrew
Cuomo really want to be Mayor of New York because
he sure isn't acting like it his latest screw up.
Next and our iHeartRadio Music Festival is back September nineteenth
and twentieth at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Two
(18:48):
nights on one stage, live performances by Brian Adams, John Fogerty,
Sammy Hagar, Ed Sheer and Maroon Five, Mariah Carey and Moore.
And while the world is listening to the concert on iHeart,
you can be there listen for three chances every weekday
to win tickets plus airfare plus hotel plus one thousand
(19:09):
dollars in spending money. Your next chance to win is
at nine o'clock this morning. People are questioning now whether
Andrew Cuomo, former governor, current mayoral candidate really wants to
be mayor.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Because he's a good politician. He's been a good politician
for a long long time, and people were questioning him
when he ran in the primary, when he was taking
most of the week off. Certainly every weekend he was
taking off and he wasn't.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
In New York and so he seemed to think, well,
they're just going to give this to me because I'm
Andrew Cuomo. And then he lost. And then he came
out in the beginning of this campaign and said, no,
I'm in it. I'm gonna be on the streets every day.
But he keeps doing dumb thing after thing after dumb thing.
And the latest dumb thing was that he said that
(20:06):
he didn't have a conversation with Donald Trump after the
New York Times said he did. New York Times reported
he had this conversation about how to beat Zora mom Donnie,
how to maybe to consolidate some candidates to make sure
that he doesn't win, to beat him, and that Donald
Trump wanted to be more involved in the race. And
he had this lengthy conversation with Donald Trump, and the
next day he said, Nope, I didn't. Never did. Then
(20:29):
he was out in the Hamptons over the weekend and
he tells a bunch of donors, Yeah, I did. I
had a lengthy conversation with him. And so now that
is a big, big deal in the race. It's probably
killed his candidacy. You know, he already had a lot
(20:51):
of other problems. Now add this to the mix, and
of course the other candidates are jumping all over it.
Speaker 19 (20:57):
You know, it is par for the course. Andrew Cuomo, first,
he publicly denies the New York Times reporting of the
fact that he had a conversation with President Trump about
this race. And now when he's behind closed doors at
a fundraiser in the Hamptons, he is willing to reveal
the fact that he has in fact been in that
communication and that there is a point of unity between
him and the President, which is how to bring Republicans
(21:18):
together to stoppark candidacy.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
And remember that's all Mom Downie's running on right now.
Is anti Trump, like every Democrat does. Everything is anti Trump,
anti Trump, anti Trump. He was so good when he
was talking about affordability, but now he's talking about Donald Trump,
and then he's not as good. Although New Yorkers eat
it up. New Yorkers hate Trump. So the guy that
hates Trump the most might win, and that's certainly not
(21:42):
Eric Adams, and because Eric Adams was tied to Trump
as well. But here's Curtis Lee was answer to what
happened in the Hampton.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
He's in the Hamptons on the weekend talking to Democrats
who support Republicans, telling them, oh, no, no, no, Trump's
gonna support me. Then he comes back into this city
said no, no, no, I'll be the guy to take
on Trump.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Yeah, that story's not going away. They have great His
opponents have grabbed onto that story because it hooks them
to Donald Trump. And as much as he hooked to
Donald Trump, the worse he's going to do in this primary.
So even Curtis Lee, with a Republican candidate, is hooking
him to Donald Trump. By the way, did you see
the quote that Trump allegedly had about Curtis Lee where
(22:29):
he called him the crazy guy and the beanie and
so I don't think there's any love loss between those two.
While Cuomo was in the Hamptons, he also said that
Eric Adams is the spoiler in the race, that if
if Mom Donnie wins, you can blame Eric Adams. And
(22:52):
they talked to Eric Adams about it, the mayor. They
talked to at Merck Adams and he said, wait a second,
he doesn't make the rules. He doesn't get that as
who the spoiler is, and the spoiler isn't. And if
anybody's the spoiler, he said, and he's got a good
argument here, it's Cuomo.
Speaker 18 (23:08):
I told everyone what I was going to do. I
was going to run in the general election, so he
knew that. So for him then to all of a
sudden throw himself into the general election, that sounds like
more of a definition of a spoiler to me.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
It does sound like a spoiler. You're absolutely right, But
is Andrew Cuomo really running? I mean, is his heart
in this? He doesn't make these kind of mistakes. I
guess he made some huge mistakes when he was governor,
but when he runs politically, he's pretty good. He's always
(23:41):
been pretty good, you know, as attorney general, as the governor,
and now all of a sudden, he's making mistake after
mistake after a mistake, and even Democrats, even on MSNBC,
they're all questioning what's going on with him.
Speaker 19 (24:00):
I'm really wondering what is going on with him.
Speaker 20 (24:02):
I'm starting to wonder if the Cuomo mayoral campaign is
the performance art where he's trying to lose, because he
I mean, he ran an extraordinary lackluster primary campaign where
he barely actually campaigned, and now he's telling you rich
Champton's crowd. Look, you got to raise money, fine, but
you're telling a rich champions crowd. Do you think Donald
Trump's gonna come in to attack Mam Donnie? And in
New York City? Do you think that's gonna hurt Man Donnie.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Look, I'm not a huge Andrew Cuomo fan. Normally I
would hope that he wouldn't win. I kind of like
Eric Adams, not a huge fan though. I mean, he's
got his own problems, and I don't think a Republican
can win. I hope, So, I mean, it seemed like
it was possible there for a while, if there was
(24:45):
an even split of votes, But it doesn't look like
that's gonna happen anymore because the other two, well, Eric
Adams every time he gets any kind of momentum, he
gets hit back by another person from his staff being indicted.
And then Clomo doesn't seem like he has his heart
in it. And I hate to say it, I mean,
(25:07):
but the way you look at the landscape right now,
and it's incredibly depressing. Maybe you can talk me off
a ledge, leave a talk back today, but it's incredibly
depressing that it really seems like it's going to be
Mom Donni.
Speaker 20 (25:24):
Ma'm donnie. He's the Democratic nominee. He has a wave
of support behind him every pole we see, whether it's.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
A three four way race or even that twoay race,
he's still ahead.
Speaker 20 (25:33):
And Cuomo is just making one mistake after another.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
He's not only a little bit ahead, he is far ahead.
And if the other candidates are having these kind of
mistakes right now, how does how does anybody else have
a chance it's going to be mam donni? Mom Donni's
(25:57):
so far been running a pretty good campaign. He's a
charming guy. He is a good candidate. He's very buttoned up.
He's got a lot of money. So you tell me who.
You tell me, And I know many of you like
Curtis Leewa. I love Curtis Leewa. I like him personally.
(26:18):
I like him as a candidate. I don't know how
it'd be as mayor, but I know he's going to
be better than this guy. So I would love to
see Curtis leew in there. But you tell me now
at this point, how he's gonna lose. I mean, be honest,
just look at it and say how is this guy
(26:39):
gonna lose with the electorate in New York that you
know he is heavily Democratic, very much to the left,
and younger and younger and younger, because the city keeps
chasing away everybody else. So you have all these you
have all these twenty five to forty five year olds,
and they love mom Donnie because they don't realize that
(26:59):
every everything he says he's going to do, he can't
possibly do. So who else you tell me how it's
going to happen to You make the case for Cuomo,
if you can't make the case for Adams, if you
can make the case for Sleeve. If you can you can't,
you can't. We're stuck with this right now. And so
(27:22):
if you're a Republican, you got to take the Booby prize.
And the Booby prize is that he is actually really
good for Republicans nationally to have a socialist, a communist
as like the face, and he will become the face
of the Democratic Party. He'll be everywhere, and it's the
(27:44):
best thing that happened to the Republicans.
Speaker 21 (27:46):
We've gotten lucky, bad for America, good for Republicans with
mister mom Donnie in New York. If I didn't know better,
I would think he was a republic A compliant. If
I didn't know better, I'd think that Republicans should created
mister Montdamie and a Patriot dish in a general Micks
(28:09):
General mis lab.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
That's Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana. He's always has a
line like that. But man, yes, you're right, he's going
to win. He is going to win. So take the
second prize, take the consolation prize. This is going to
be good for Republicans nationwide. Well, it is the most
(28:33):
bizarre story of the day, but a big story. A
potato chip bag with cash inside a former city hall
aide handed reporter Katie Honan an envelope of money after
a may oral event. We're going to talk to Katie
who got that next surprise right after the seven o'clock news.
Speaker 11 (28:52):
The iHeart Radio app now has presets set one to

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Back to Miny in the morning on war.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
So after all of the attention, the Texas Democrats god
from the Assembly for running to Chicago and other cities
in Boston. Other Democratic cities and all the fanfare and
Obama calling them and doing a zoom meeting with them,
and them being called heroes for running from their job,
(29:26):
from not doing their job, for holding up the redistricting
vote that was going to happen anyway. Everybody knew was
going to happen anyway. This was all just for attention,
to get a whole lot of attention. And then they
came back. And when they came back, the first thing
they wanted to do was now debate redistricting, which has
been by the way, on the docket for eighteen days.
Speaker 19 (29:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
They wanted to start the debate and that was shut
down immediately.
Speaker 12 (29:53):
You said you did that, But don't come into this
body and say we didn't include you. You left us
for eighteen days, and that's wrong.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Right.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
That's how it all started. And then look, there was
a little bit of debate and then they had the
vote and the Democrats once again it was historyonics I mean,
everybody was upset. How could this happen? This is so
on American, even though it always happens in every other state,
it is so on American.
Speaker 10 (30:24):
Look, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 19 (30:28):
I want to.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Cry, but I'm too angry. I want to cry, but
I'm too furious, right.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
And the Republicans, of course, had an answer to the
Democrats wanting to cry, but they can't cry because they're
so angry.
Speaker 11 (30:46):
So you're upset, and I get it, you're losing at
the ballot box, but you will not silence the majority
in the state of Texas.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
So Texas has forty congressman so there's forty districts. And
now what they're hoping to do, the Republicans hoping to do,
and they're very upfront about this, and Donald Trump has
been very upfront about this. He wants to redistrict to
add five what he hopes will be you can never
predict these things, but what he hopes will be five
(31:21):
Republican seats. Take five Democratic seats and turn them into
Republican seats. It's possible to do. It doesn't always work.
It doesn't mean definitely they're going to be five Republican seats.
So now California, as you know, with Gavin Newsom, says
they're going to do the same thing, except by California law,
(31:42):
he can't just do it. He can't just order it
the legislature. There can't just order it. They have to
put it up to the people for a vote.
Speaker 14 (31:51):
Yes, we'll fight fire with fire.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Yes we will push back.
Speaker 14 (31:54):
It's not about whether we play hardball anymore.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
It's about how we play hardball. Sometimes I just feel
like that guy's got to clear his throat. It's tough
to listen to sometimes. But and the amazing thing is
the polls show that sixty four percent of Californians don't
want this, So this isn't necessarily going to go through.
But now every other state is trying to come up
(32:19):
with some way to redistrict. Now, and maybe the cleverest
is Ron DeSantis is now in on the game. Now
they have thirty electoral votes, so they are the second
biggest Republican state and the third biggest state overall after
California and Texas. Now, what DeSantis is saying is that, hey,
(32:44):
in the census when we'd redistricted, we did some counting
of our own and we think the census was off.
We think we're owed another seat, and so he wants
the Census Bureau to recount.
Speaker 11 (33:00):
General has written a letter to the Census Bureau of
the Commerce Department, copying the White House, saying, you know,
please fix this renuneration and award Florida what we're entitled
to an extra seat in Congress.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Yeah, so they say they've owed this, that they have
the population for this, and oh, by the way, if
we have to add another seat, of course we're going
to have to redistrict again.
Speaker 11 (33:25):
The Attorney general has written a letter.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
So yeah, he did write a letter. But what this means, Now,
play this out in your in your head for a second. Well,
you can kind of see what's going on. I think
the fix is in on this. So he doesn't want
to come out and say he's going to redistrict. And
I guess in Florida law, he can't just do this
on his own. But if he sends a letter to
(33:49):
the Trump administration and the Census Bureau and they say
in the Commerce Department and they say, you know what, well,
good for you, we did miss this. There are enough
for another district. Well, you can't just add a district.
You have to take one from somewhere else.
Speaker 12 (34:11):
Where.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Do you think that would be? They'd have to look
at the map and go buy the percentages and take one,
oh from a democratic state. So it would be actually
adding two seats right there, taking a Democrat away and
adding a Republican and then they'd have to redistrict the
whole state at that point, right, you can't just throw
(34:32):
in a seat. You have to redistrict everything. This is
a game that's going to be played. This political game
is going to be played all the way up until
the election starts in earnest in a year. This is
going to be state after state after state after state.
That's what happened after Texas. Everybody is going to redistrict.
(34:56):
Everybody is going to play this game and we'll see
who comes out winner at the end. And by by
the way, just because you're redistrict, doesn't mean things are
going to go the way you thought they were going
to go. Well, how about Natalie I said, hey, if
we should try to get Katie Honean and then we
already have her. Katie Honan is in the middle of
news right now because she is the reporter at City
(35:17):
Magazine or the City site online, the news site, and
she's going to be up next.
