Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's good to be here today. Happy Friday to you.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
It is seven o five on your Friday morning, and
beautiful days, lots of sunshine, man oh Man highs in
the low eighties. Can you believe it? It doesn't feel
like fall, but I will take it. Seven ten WR
is the Voice of New York and this is the
last Friday of September, the twenty sixth.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Man. You're listening to MENI in the morning. Larry is off.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
And you may remember me from my decades as a
TV news anchor here in New York. I worked at
Channel seven and five. I fill in for the Great
Mark Simone, and I also host a TV show nowadays.
It's on a New Jersey channel called on New Jersey.
You could stream it at ONNJ dot com. I also
have a food website called The Food Dude. It's at
Thefooddude dot us.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
So check it out.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
It's free and the phone lines are open one eight
hundred three two one zero seven ten one eight hundred
three to two one zero seven ten, or use the
iHeartRadio talkback feature. Open the iHeartRadio app, go to wor
radio look for the little red microphone on the upper
right of the screen, tap on the mic, follow the
instructions and leave a message or tell us how you
(01:06):
feel a big three. Of course, Comy indicted making false
statements and obstruction of justice. He could get up to
a five year prison sentence per indictment if convicted. Jack
Chiarelli and Mikey Cheryl in New Jersey for the gubernatorial race.
They're pulling neck and neck, and there's a big military
story involving Mikey Cheryl that could put her in a
(01:27):
little hot water. And of course Zorn Mamdani wanting to
all but scrap the gang database. But a thirteen year
old was just fatally shot by a gang on Monday.
How will that affect the campaign? Well, first of all,
let's talk a little about James Comy. Indicted on those
two counts. He's now the first former FBI director to
be brought up on charges. There was a grand jury
in the Eastern District of Virginia that handed up the
(01:49):
two indictments against the former FBI director who led the
agency during the Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton investigations. Remember,
whenever it came to Hillary Clinton, he gave her a pass.
But when it came to Donald Trump, even knowing that
Russia Gate was all fake based on a fake dossier.
He basically threw Trump under the bus and that destroyed
(02:11):
Trump's first administration. Well, when it comes to the testimony
that the Komy made before Congress, this is what he
said when Senator Grassley asked him whether he had authorized
and he leaks to the media about the Steele dossier
in Russiagate.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Director Comy, have you ever been an anonymous source in
news reports about matters relating to the Trump investigation or
the Clinton investigation? Never question two one, relatively related, have
you ever authorized someone else at the FBI to be
(02:48):
an anonymous source in news reports about the Trump investigation
or the Clinton investigation? Now, has any classified information relating
to to President Trump or his association associates been declassified
and shared with the media.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Not to my knowledge.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, The problem is there would later be testimony from
his number two who said exactly the opposite. And then
when he was brought back in to the picture, Comy
before Senator Cruz, he kind of tap danced. So Rob
Asterin now former Westchester County executive host of Rob Astorino
Show on WOR Saturdays from four to five pm and
(03:31):
host of Saturday Agenda from one to three pm on
Newsmax is on of course, this time every Friday. He
joins us live on the phone, good morning, my brother.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Good morning there Canada.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
That were you.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I'm doing very well today. I don't know, I have
a little snap in my step today. So when you
hear this with James Comy, I mean, he's such a
smug guy. He's so condescending, all six foot seven of him.
This guy literally says before Senator Grassley, nope, nope, before
Senator Grassley could even finish asking the question. And then,
(04:05):
of course his number two, Andrew McCabe testifies just the opposite.
Coby says that, oh, bring on the trial. I'll be
found innocent.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
But will he.
Speaker 6 (04:14):
Yeah, this is all a bunch of number two, by
the way, and he did say similar stuff to Ted
Cruz too, so it wasn't just once he repeated that.
And you know, so I was watching The Surreal CNN
and MSNBC last night after this happened. I wanted to
see how they portray this. I mean, it is, honest
(04:40):
to god, it's just a total another world that really
and truly his. And they circled the wagons around him,
and this is all about, of course, the Donald Trump
hate tour and revenge tour and all this stuff. Meanwhile,
they left out all pertinent information about this, and the
fact that the indictment was two pages means it is
(05:00):
a non story. This is ridiculous. The one problem that
that will come out of this, though, is of course
where it is. It's in northern Virginia, which is just
bleeding over from DC. So your jury pool will be
probably you know, fired government employees, Donald Trump haters, and
(05:22):
you know, and and that that will be a problem,
you know, no matter where it's going to be.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
But the one thing, if I may step in on
you here, the one thing here though is videotape doesn't lie,
or at.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
Least syndrome Trumps from the arrangement syndrome is worse than
videotape lying. That's part of the problem. So but look,
I mean, look, it's it's even far worse than this. Okay,
this is maybe what they got him on, But I mean,
you were talking about the the the whole situation with
(05:54):
Donald Trump and Russia, Russia, Russia. He lied to a
to a court, to the plies of court. He predicated
all of what they received, the permissions from the FIS
accord to Basically spy was based on the phony dossier,
and he knew it was phony. So I love when
I hear all this stuff. This is what they're doing.
(06:15):
They're going after honorable people just because he disagreed with
Donald Trump and wouldn't carry out his agenda. This is
what we're gonna deal with. Just like the Thailand all stuff.
Where you were in local news. I saw clips and
clips and clips and clips of all these stories in
the media over the last ten years and longer about
(06:36):
warnings potential causation, warnings of Thailand, all for pregnant women
with autism and other health risks, including Tailannholl's own tweets.
But when Donald Trump says it, now, of course they're
popping tailand all pills as they're pregnant, just to protest.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Well, my favorite meme that I saw circulating yesterday on
the Instagram and the Google and the TikTok was it
shows a nerdy looking guy with glasses on and a
plastic bag over his head tied about the neck. By
the way, don't ever do that, and it says warning.
Donald Trump says oxygen is good for you. And so
(07:12):
this person is clearly trying to asphyxiate himself because he
doesn't want to breathe oxygen. But this is Trump arrangement syndrome. Yes,
I in fact, I remember years ago when I would
take tylan All I would have issues where I would
feel like I was not breathing, like my natural inclination
to just breathe with my autonomic nervous system would stop.
(07:33):
And I remember asking my doctor about it. He looked
it up and sure enough, that's one of the side effects.
But if Donald Trump were to mention that, yeah, like
a tiny fraction of a percent, it actually suppresses your breathing,
your natural breathing. But if Donald Trump mentioned it, you know,
I'm sure everyone would say your nuts, hey, But it
is what it is.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
We got a little bit left here.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
We want to switch quickly to New York City mayoral
candidate Zoron Mom Donnie, of course, the self described Democratic socialist.
He wants to abu NYPD's gang database. Now I don't
understand how this makes any sense. You have a police
department that spent years putting together a gang database, talking
to members of gangs. He wants to get rid of it.
(08:13):
How does that help citizens in the city of New York.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Yeah, well, first of all, we'll backtrack and go to
Andrew Cuomo is the only one who might be able
to catch him who passed the law raise the age.
So now you've got fifteen, sixteen, seventeen year old gang
bangers who are not going to be tried as an adult,
and we'll get away with everything and have been, which
(08:38):
is why they are part of gangs and drug dealers.
They're being used to help with illegal immigration because there's
no consequences. And now once they are tried, if they
are adults, they will have everything scrubbed so we won't
know of their past and violent history. It makes all
you don't understand this, I don't know, ken, what don't
(08:58):
you understand? This is perfect public hell.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
But look, I do get what Curtis Sliwa has said.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
Now.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
He said that there are people who were in the
gang database who have evolved beyond that, and there are
members of the Guardian Angels who used to be gang
bangers who turned their lives around. And the problem is
they don't always update the gang database.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
So I get it.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Update it so that doesn't take much. Just update it,
but you don't abolish it.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
Two different things, totally different things. Updating is obviously is
it's the same thing with the You know, when you're
going to the airport, if you're on that bad list
and you can't fly, you good luck getting off that.
So I understand there are good people who are going
to get trapped in that, and yes, there should be
an appeal process or update. No problem with that. But
to abolish it is there is no public safety benefit
(09:50):
to doing that, none whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I hear it, Hey, I hear you got a big
guest tomorrow, mister Giuliani.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
Rudy, Rudy. Yeah, Rudy's gonna come on. We're gonna talk
about the race. I need him to try to convince
me that that Zorah and Mundami can be beaten, because
I have said from the very beginning he cannot. It's
what six weeks to go. So if he can tell
me how it will happen, I'd be happy to hear it.
But I don't think it's gone.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yeah, and ask him how he's feeling after his accident.
Thank God, he's like a tank. You can't you can't
stop him. That's a good thing, all right, Rob Asteria,
my brother from another mother. Host of Rob Asterian Our
show on w R Saturdays four to five pm. Host
of Saturday Agenda from one to three pm on News
News Max. Excuse me, and every Friday, of course at
(10:36):
this hour he's here and we thank you for coming
on my friend. I'll be watching and listening tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
Always good to hear you, Ken, talk to you soon, you.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Too, Rob. I have a great day.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
And TikTok's latest trend buying rocks. You heard me right,
buying like you know, rocks you can find in Central
Park only for one thousand dollars and people are falling
for it. Remember the old pet rock in the seventies,
We got that behind the viol prank. Next, and a
good morning to you. We have a lot of talkbacks
we got and if you'd like to leave one, by
(11:06):
the way, all you have to do is go to
the iHeartRadio app. You click on WOOR Radio and then
you'll see a little red microphone at the top. All
you have to do at that point is click on that.
You could leave a up to thirty second talkback. We'd
love to hear what you have to say. So we
had one. Oh yeah, I'm sorry, see I'm the guest.
I forgot to tell you. Every time you send us
(11:27):
a talkback, you are in the running to win a
limited edition, highly coveted Minty in the Morning T shirt.
It is so highly coveted I do not have one,
and I've been begging for one for a year. It
is awarded daily to our favorite message, and don't forget
the best talkback of the week takes home an ac
It takes on a sea crane excuse me, a sea
(11:48):
crane radio.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
I happen to have one.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Of those, and they're awesome for the listener who demands
better sea crane radio with legendary reception. So this one
person heard us talking about suing the Democrats, and if
you can do that with any crimes that may have
been committed by illegal migrants.
Speaker 7 (12:05):
I absolutely think that people should sue, you know, especially
on these common sense issues. Okay, we have laws. We're
a nation of laws, and if an administration or a
government official willfully breaks that law to further their agenda,
then they should be sued and held accountable.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Well, the Biden administration apparently letting millions and millions in
so what should happen to him?
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Listen. I think the Biden administration should be charged with
smuggling human beings across the border. They were putting them
on planes flying in the countries. If I put a
bunch of people on illegal people on a plane, I'd
be locked up now, Ken met They never gave him
by radio. Where's my radio? Maybe you'll give me one? Really,
(12:51):
Biden should be locked up.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
I like that way he intertwined that give you by radio,
And yes, if you don't have a Seacrane radio, go
get one. It's worth it because they are phenomenal. Especially
we had a five minute blackout where I am in
Jersey yesterday and I had Mussy Crane and it works
just great. This other person wanted to talk about Komy
James Comby in the indictment.
Speaker 8 (13:11):
So James Sanktakomy. That guy is so full of himself.
All he does is pontific eight and his Instagram post
is just it's so sanctimonious and phony. The chickens are
coming home to roost, mister Komy, and you're going to get,
hopefully everything that you deserve.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
And as rob Astorino just said a few minutes ago,
the issue is he's in the Eastern District of Virginia
where they tend to be very liberal. So even if
there looks like there's evidence, he might get a jury
that might side with him.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
So we'll see what happens with that.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
It is seven twenty six right now, and there's a
viral TikTok prank involving fake decorative rocks. It's taken over
social media. Remember back in the day the pet rock, Well,
this is fake decorative rocks. So apparently Anthropology the store
is in on the joke. It all started when a TikToker,
Phoebe Adams, posted a video pretending she bought a rock
(14:09):
for one hundred and fifty dollars from Anthropology and it
shocked her boyfriend. So we have a couple of a
couple of examples of people coming home and saying, hey, honey,
I have this rock and it only cost me a
jillion dollars.
Speaker 9 (14:21):
They literally found this, They literally found this in the ground.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
And there's no rock like this.
Speaker 9 (14:26):
Because every rock is dep Wait, how did you spend
all the rock?
Speaker 10 (14:29):
It wasn't that expensive on its it was on sale.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
It was one hundred and fifty dollars.
Speaker 11 (14:32):
Oh my gosh, you spent one hundred and fifty dollars
a rock.
Speaker 9 (14:37):
I can go find you a million rocks.
Speaker 7 (14:39):
This is actually a special rock from anthropology, and I'll
show you how cute it is.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
What am I doing all this? You look at this rock?
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Oh my god, that's so cute a rock.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
It's a rock.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I love it. Here's here's another way. You gotta hear
the other one. Phoebe Adams did. This one's a little
more expensive.
Speaker 9 (15:01):
Oh my god, Dan the anti rocks, Dave Stocked.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
There's no way this is real.
Speaker 9 (15:08):
What do you mean, there's no way this is real?
Are you kidding? Oh my gosh, this one's so pretty.
It's only one thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
It's only one thousand.
Speaker 10 (15:22):
A lot.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
She plays it off so well, it's fifty percent of
it's only five hundred. And I mean we laugh at
it now, and of course it's just a joke. We
laugh at it now. But yes, in the nineteen seventies,
for those not old enough, they had a thing a
scam called the pet rock, and the pet rock it
was like fifty bucks so and people bought it and
they gave it his gifts. Somebody made a lot of money.
(15:44):
It is now time for Jacquell and Carl with the News.
Good morning, Good morning Ken.
Speaker 12 (15:49):
Former FBI director James Comy says he's innocent after he
was indicted Thursday. In a video posted on social media,
Comy said he's innocent and his family will not live
on their knees. Comy has been charged with one count
of making false statements and one count of obstruction of justice.
The charges are related to testimony he gave before Congress
(16:10):
on his handling of the investigation into the twenty sixteen
presidential election, and thousands are expected to protest in march
in New York City today, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahoo's set to address the United Nations General Assembly.
Speaker 11 (16:25):
Protest organizers are calling on Netan Yahoo to be arrested
related to war crimes in connection with Israel's actions in Gaza.
They are also trying to pressure UN member states to
put in sanctions on Israel and address the humanitarian crisis
in Gaza. Thousands of protesters, while organizers say many have
come from out of state. Demonstrators gathering in Times Square
and then a march to the area of the UN
(16:46):
General Assembly. I'm Scott Pringle, WR News.
Speaker 9 (16:49):
So listen to this.
Speaker 12 (16:50):
A San Francisco woman is going to great lengths to
get hitched, and I I support her. According to kron four,
Lisa Catalano has digital billboards along Highway one oh one
from Santa Clara to San Francisco with just a picture
of her at a web address. The site is her
(17:11):
pitch to find her perfect match, including videos and extensive
about Lisa's section, and an application to date her. Some
of her requirements for the billboard match include compatibility and religion, politics,
living a healthy lifestyle, and wanting to get married and
start a family in the next two to three years.
Speaker 9 (17:30):
This is a sad part of the story.
Speaker 12 (17:32):
She was engaged to a long term boyfriend, but he
passed away two years ago from a terminal illness. So
I give her great props for doing this. So far,
she's had plenty of applications but no luck finding mister Wright,
what do people think about this?
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Do you like?
Speaker 9 (17:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 12 (17:48):
There was a time when meeting someone on the internet
was taboo. Now so many people have gotten married through
apps and stuff. This takes it up a notch. But
I think Lisa's gonna find her husband. But you know what,
I think she is going to also.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
You know, it's the Mars and Venus thing. I'm thinking looking.
Speaker 9 (18:07):
For love and all the wrong places.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I think there's creepy truck drivers. You're gonna say, I
want to I want to meet you.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Girl.
Speaker 12 (18:17):
You will get on the radar of some people that
you probably don't want to get on the radar of.
And I'm not saying truck drivers, just some people, but
I think you might actually. I mean, I got to
give her credit for trying like you know and saying
not like you know, just crumbling and saying nope, I
want to start a family. I want I want to
get married. How old is she get I wish they
(18:38):
said they didn't see if she wants to start a family,
she's eighty four. It's going to be kind of a.
Speaker 9 (18:44):
It would be a tough role, but you know, okay,
you never know.
Speaker 12 (18:47):
Your Your job now is to follow her progress because
I want to see if she meets somebody.
Speaker 9 (18:52):
Because I'm we too, Lisa, good luck, Lisa Catalana. We're
rooting for you here on seven to ten. Wo r
you have it, yes see that's my opinion.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Yeah, I'm room for it too. We wanted to be happy.
Ahmed to that all right. New Jersey's governor race is
neck and neck. My friend Micah Rasmussen from Ryder University
breaks down the latest poll, the Trump factor, and what
it all means for voters. Coming up next, and iHeart
brings you the Global Citizen Festival twenty twenty five from
New York City at Central Park's Great Lawn. Live performances
(19:24):
by Shaquitra, Shaquita, Cardi b and more, hosted by Hugh Jackman.
Join the movement to and extreme poverty now, one action
at a time at Global Citizen Festival dot com and
check out Global Citizens Radio all day on the iHeartRadio app.
Or listen to Hit Nation Saturday at ten pm Ken
Risotto and for Larry seven to ten.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Wo r Heny. Good to be with you on your Friday.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Micah Rasmussen is the director of the Rebevich Institute for
New Jersey Politics at Ryder University. We got a lot
of big political news in New Jersey today. Good morning, Micah,
Good to have you on WR Good morning.
Speaker 10 (20:00):
Always good to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Likewise, I was good to have you well, so of
course the big news, a lot of big news from yesterday.
Number one, you have the second poll, one was internal
and one was the Emerson poll, both now showing the
two gubernatorial candidates pretty much in a dead heat. Did
you expect that that would happen?
Speaker 10 (20:18):
Well, I think Adam Geller, the Republican pollster, the internal
poll is solid. He's got a good track record, so
you know, I don't view him as somebody who's just
throwing a number out there. So it doesn't surprise me no,
to know that the race was tightening, to know that
instead of seven or eight points, we were down to
(20:39):
four or five. And so you know, maybe the fact
that it's a complete toss up at this point that
might be a surprise. But you know, look what we
can do at this point is to say that either
of these now sit matching results is an outlier. This
seems to be where the race is at the moment.
Doesn't mean it's where it's going to stay. But at
this point we've got, you know, maybe a lead that's
(21:01):
been blown, an advantage of raised and it's anybody's ball game.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yeah, And when you look at the two candidates, I mean,
let's just face facts, no matter where you stand politically,
for their respective parties. They're really two very strong candidates.
They have a lot of good bullet points that each
party can tout, So of course that's a very good thing.
The challenge, of course, came up yesterday. Now, of course,
the big story about the military history of Mikey Cheryl.
(21:25):
This is not to take away from the fact that
a she served, and she served voluntarily. She spent ten
years in the military. She was a helicopter pilot in
the Navy. But now there seems to be a little
bit of a scandal brewing in that she knew of
people who may have cheated on their exams, and as
a naval cadet you're supposed to follow the honor and
(21:47):
turn them in, and she may not have done that.
So talk more about that.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
For us, well, it's you know, the details are hazy
because what we don't have at this point are her
disciplinary records that would be up to her release. She
has not released them. She has said, look, I didn't
walk in my graduation because I didn't snitch. Essentially, to
use a very Jersey term, I didn't snitch on some
(22:12):
people who cheated on the exam. Now you know what
we can take implicitly from that is that she didn't cheat.
This was a very large cheating scandal. As many as
four hundred out of six hundred and sixty three cadets
may have seen the test in advance. She did not
get in trouble for that, So we've got to take
(22:33):
that for what it's worth. Again, we're trying to read
into tea leaves here that we don't necessarily see or
understand at this point. One of the things that happened
Ken that's pretty troubling here is that the Federal Archives,
the Federal Administration, released her entire military records to the
(22:53):
Chitarelli campaign and to CBS in an unredacted form. It
included things like her Social Steak Security number, It included
her home address, It included information about her life insurance.
This is a no no, This is a violation of
the law. And the question is that they do this
in an effort to smear her or embarrass or We
don't know that, but it is troubling. It did break
(23:17):
the law, and you know, again, there's just a lot
of blanks that we don't from the answer to, but
it is definitely putting her on the defensive at a
time when she wants to be on the offense.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Yeah, and even the department that released that information said
they made a mistake. I mean, that was not a
good thing. I don't care where you are politically, no
one has should have their social Security number released their
personal private information. Just because you're running for public office
doesn't mean that you could have all of your personal
private information released like that. Now she's got to have
(23:48):
credit monitoring services and everything else. That's that's not fair
to anybody. And would I would venture to bet that
even the Genaali can't wasn't looking for that part of it.
Speaker 10 (23:59):
I mean, you know, no, they didn't ask for that. No,
absolutely not. They were surprised to get it. But I
also have to say, they were releasing these records yesterday,
so they may have passed along the problem.
Speaker 6 (24:11):
They may have.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
Extended the problem. I agree with you. They didn't ask
for it, they didn't expect to get it, but then
they were passing around the records that they'd gone I
believe in unredacted form. Again, we'd have to look. There's
a lot of details that are are that are hazy here.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
I just want to remind everybody you're listening to seven
to ten wo r The Voice of New York. Michah Rasmussen,
director of the Rebevich Institute for New Jersey Politics at
Ryder University, on Ken Risotto in for Larry Manty today,
where do you see the race going now over the
next six weeks. Do you think it's just going to
get tighter and tighter or do you think somebody has
(24:45):
more momentum and really could take the lead.
Speaker 10 (24:49):
It's a good question. One of the things I took
from yesterday's poll. Mikey Cheryl's vote share forty three percent
is the same as her part party's registration in the poll,
which is also forty three percent. New Jersey has the
Democrats of a larger party in New Jersey, right, so
she is getting she is hitting her voter registration, but
(25:11):
he is hitting significantly above his party registration, which in
the poll is twenty nine percent. Yet he's polling at
forty three percent, which strongly suggests that at least in
this poll, he's getting the lion's share of the unaffiliated voters,
and that also suggests that he may still have more
room to grow among the eleven percent who are still
(25:31):
undecided in this poll. So if momentum is really on
his side. If he's closed it, then momentum may continue
to be on his side.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Here we have him on.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
By the way, he's coming on at eight thirty five
this morning. Here at seven to ten, War and Micah.
The ongoing joke is for about four months, I've been
trying to get him on my New Jersey show on
on New Jersey, and I keep getting yeah, yeah, get
we'll call you back in about eight years.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
But he's finally coming on. War.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
We're honored to have him on, and we'd be honored
to have Mikey Cheryl on. She's always welcome to call
in to this show or to the show I do
in New Jersey. You know, there are lots of great
points that both should make, and obviously we want to
hear from both of them. It is such a pleasure
to have you on, my friend. And what else do
you think is a major issue in New Jersey that
the two need to hit more?
Speaker 10 (26:18):
Oh boy, well, you know this this issue of who's
going to raise taxes again, it's become mudslinging more than
it's become. There's not a lot of quarity around it.
They're both saying that everything is on the table, but
they won't really say what everything is on the table means,
and so it would be great to get some specifics.
I don't think we're going to get it. I'm holding
(26:40):
my breadth for it. But this seems to be a
major source of both of their contention. They're talking about
it a lot, they're not exactly saying what would you do?
Speaker 2 (26:51):
So, you know, politics, politics, all right. Mikeah Rismuss, the
director of the Rebevich Institute for New Jersey Politics at
Writer University, Good friend, thank you so much for coming
on this morning.
Speaker 10 (27:03):
Thank you, ken you bet.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
And Starbucks is closing stores, hundreds of them. Wrs Rory
O'Neil joins us with what's behind the billion dollar shakeup
and what it means for your morning coffee run coming
up next.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Happy happy Friday morning to you, and.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
We want to hear what you have to say, so
leave us a talkback. Go to seven ten WOAR on
the iHeartRadio app, click on the microphone, and when you're there,
put seven to ten WR on your presets. You know,
a little earlier, our Jacqueline carl was talking about a
woman who is trying to find her man, so she
put up a big billboard to try to find the
(27:38):
right person in her life. And here's what one talkback
had to say.
Speaker 13 (27:43):
Well, Ice, for one, thinks that her billboard is great.
I mean, let them come to her. But I was
on match dot com. I'm married to my husband, who
I met on match dot com. I had over two
hundred dates prior to meeting my husband, only ever had
one date. Ninety nine percent of those guys were super nice,
(28:04):
but there was no spark. So I applaud her.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
You gone girl, You go girl, Yes, and I'm glad
you found your spark with your man and that was
your life partner. That's awesome. That's good to hear. So
we'd love to hear from you. Let us know what
you feel about the stories we've been talking about today.
Bring up something all on your own again. You could
give us a call if you want eight hundred and
three to two one zero seven ten, or use the
iHeartRadio talkback feature. Go to the iHeartRadio app, find woor Radio,
(28:31):
click on the little red microphone and leave you talk.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Back seven fifty five. Right now.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Rory O'Neill is wor's national correspondent. He's on every day
at this time and we are going to talk about
Starbucks closing its stores, or not all of them, but
some Rory good morning.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Yeah, good morning.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Ken.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
It's only about one percent, but that's still roughly five
hundred stores in the US, says Starbucks. Still trying to
shake things up a little bit, trying to get a
bit more profitability from the folk wearing all those green aprons.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, I think.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Don't you think, though, even if you have to go
at extra block now to get your Starbucks fixed, You
got people so addicted to Starbucks. I think they would
walk a mile in the snow.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
Well, right, especially now that we're in Pumpkin Spice Lotte season, Right,
that's even worse. But have you seen the ads on
TV for Starbucks lately? I think they've been everywhere. But
that's something that Starbucks historically hasn't done. So that's just
another one of the high profile changes we're seeing as
Starbucks really tries to reverse this trend. Their sales have
(29:34):
been pretty stagnant for the last six quarters. The new CEO,
who's been on the job about a year, Brian Nickel,
was hired. He came over from Chipotle. He had great
success in building up Chipotle to be this juggernaut. The
folks over at Starbucks poached him now hoping he can
do the same for them.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see how this plays out
because you have Tim Horton's, you have Duncan, and then
you have all the little local mom and pops at
pop up. So there's a lot of competition on the
the coffee front today. You know what, I keep thinking,
I would love to do a survey someday of where
people stand politically based on the coffee they drink. Do
is it more Democrats at Starbucks and Republicans and Duncan
(30:12):
are just the opposite. So we got to commission that poll.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Well, I don't know, Duncan is based in Massachusetts, which
is all any Blue states.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
Yeah, yeah, we'll see how that goes. But yeah, Casey
Affleck is the mayor of Duncan. Is still one of
the greatest SNL bits of all time. But yes, there's
a little bit of a Starbucks has going a bit flat,
which is why they really think they need to shake
things up a bit. And look, a lot of these
stores are very expensive. You know, they get a lot
of foot traffic in the morning rush hour but oftentimes
(30:42):
it can be pretty flat during the day, and that
means that you're paying for an awful lot of real
estate and employees that aren't generating a lot of revenues
day after two o'clock in the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Yeah, I don't know. I can have coffee twenty times
a day. You know, either half looks at me because
it's ten.
Speaker 9 (30:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
I just like light and I used to do sweet
when I could have sugar. I can't really have sugar anymore,
but I use like four splendors, so it might as
well be sugar.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
But that's what I do. I could go through like
literally six of those a day easily.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
Yeah, I don't want I don't want a flavor in
my coffee. I like my beer like to taste like beer.
I like my coffee to taste like coffee. Those are
my two sort of rules of I don't need pumpkiven
much of anything.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
I know what to get you for Christmas? Got your
Starbucks gift card. Rory O'Neill, wor National correspondent on every
day at this time. Always a pleasure, my friend. Good
to talk to you. Thanks Ken, I have a good
weekend you too, And man oh Man it's gonna be
a beautiful day. If you haven't taken a look outside yet,
(31:45):
it doesn't feel like fall at all. We're gonna have
sunshine today and it's gonna be warm eighty two degrees,
and the warmth will be here right through next Tuesday,
which is the last day, ironically, the last day of September.
On the first day of October, that's when it drops
ten degrees, like Mother Nature says, all right, already, we'll
get it.
Speaker 12 (32:03):
I love summer as much as you do, but at
some point I'm ready for sweater weather.
Speaker 9 (32:09):
Yes, and I am ready for sweater weather.
Speaker 12 (32:11):
You know this eighty two in humid it's really not
making me happy.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Notice of steak silent right now?
Speaker 12 (32:18):
Your favorite is the summer.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
I love the heat, the Schwitz, the humidity. That's why
I get that on the Florida every moment I can.
Let's see if the boss would let me fill in
from Fort Lauderdale more often. We'll talk to Tom about that.
All right, it is coming up on the top of
the hour.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Don't forget. We got the big news.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
James Comy indicted two felony charges, including obstruction of justice.
Could the former fbichi finally face real accountability. We've got
the latest right after the eight o'clock news
