Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning to you. Happy Mother's Day weekend. Next week
we just found out his law enforcement week Thank you
for all you do to all the police officers and
law enforcement out there in the Big Three. What else?
We have a new pope and for the first time,
the pope is an American pope. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost
(00:22):
born in Chicago, went to college in Villanova. Is now
Pope Leo the fourteenth. And his brother saw it coming.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
We used to tease him, you're going to be Pope someday.
You're too holy, and you know, joking, ribbing. When he
went into the seminary, it's like, oh wow, okay. And
then a couple of years ago when the Pope made
him a cardinal, it's like, this could happen, Holy.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
And it did happen. The New York US Attorney and
the Justice Department has officially opened a criminal investigation into
US Attorney General Letitia James.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
They're claiming that I engaged in mortgage fraud, that I
somehow decided that I was a resident of Virginia, which
would be some commute every morning to the Office of
twenty eight Liberty.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Help is coming from the Trump administration to Newark Liberty
International Airport. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced that first
there is going to be a short term fix.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Immediately, we're in the process of bringing together all the
airlines that serve Newark and putting them in a room
and having a conversation about how they reduce their capacity
in Newark. So if you book a flight, you know
it's not going to be delayed or canceled. You're actually
going to get on that fight and it's going to fly.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
And that's going to be followed by a nationwide major
upgrade to the air traffic control system across the country.
And here's something that's going to give you hope right
now that has bipartisan support because there's money attached to it,
it has to be approved by Congress. And Tom who
was in New York yesterday, says any of the students
(02:04):
with visas, and even those who were not students, if
they had green cards or they were here illegally, who
took part in the violent protest at Columbia Butler Library
this week, they're going to be deported. So if they
want to come here and support our enemies, a terrorist
organization they want to take over college campuses. They want
to sell now security guards, they want to damage college property.
(02:27):
They're going to be deported. And Donald Trump announces the
first major trade deal since these tariff wars began.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
This was the president's deal, and people think, oh, that's
not the way it works. If you got to sit
next to him, I have the best.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Deal maker to my left.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
And if you don't think that, we take advantage of
him calling the Prime minister, get it that deal done.
You don't understand who's the president of the United States.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Now. Trump says they're talking to three other countries right now.
He expects deals in the coming weeks. But the big
thing is this weekend, Scott Bessen will be in Switzerland
to start some formal talks with China. And with that,
let's bring in Rickcline, ABC News Washington Bureau Chief because
(03:11):
because he has been talking unto us for a long
time about these tariffs. Every week we have Rick on
because he tells it's what's coming up on this week,
and he's been talking about this tariff for a long time.
Everybody in the media have been talking about these tariffs,
and the Democrats, of course, have been complaining over and
over again that When are they gonna happen? When are
(03:33):
they going to happen? Is if you wave a magic
wand and say it's going to happen. Now, as I've
been saying from the beginning, this is a negotiation, so
just wait. So now we got a ricline. ABC News
Washington Bureau Chief Rick. Let's start with the announcement the
other day that they have a deal with the United Kingdom.
(03:55):
How significant is this?
Speaker 6 (03:57):
Well, I think the significance is a deal is done,
or at least the framework, and it tells you how
other countries might be able to handle this. I think,
you know, if the Brits are able to get something,
does what does it mean for other countries? Few countries
have the kind of same relationship, And there's a lot
of kind of one off carve outs in here for
luxury goods for steel that might not be applicable other places.
(04:17):
One takeaway is that they didn't do better than ten
percent across the board tariff, which is what Trump said
at the baseline. So I think that's going to be
the baseline for everybody. You've also seen Trump floating overnight
a much lower tariff on China, So the negotiating window
is officially open, and the potential for a deal is
certainly there, even if you know this is really just
this is just a framework, and again it's hard to
see how other countries can do the same. It also
(04:40):
tells me it's going to taste some time, because if
it took this long for the Brits just to get
to a framework, I can't imagine how complicated it's going
to be for other countries that have, you know, either
tenser relationships or more tenuous relationships, or rely one way
or another on the United States and different waves.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Now, if you believe the administration, even though this is
a framework, they say it's going to happen quickly. They
don't have to weigh paid for the final agreement and
the signing of an agreement to put this into effect.
Is that what you understand?
Speaker 6 (05:06):
Yeah, I mean, look, Trump wants it done because he's
been using just executive orders and powers on this. There's
no congressional approval, there's no real oversight. Let the court
step in and say otherwise. If Trump just deems it
to be, then it will be. And you can operate
on trust someone. I suppose when you have a close
ally like this, I do think there's gonna be some
bumps along along the way. Obviously the new British government
(05:26):
really wanted this done and really wanted it done promptly.
But I think it's going to take you know, a
good a good deal of time to see what it
means in practice, even if, as you say, in the meantime,
this is this is where things stand.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, he says that there are three deals that he's
talking about right now with other countries. I think everybody
thought India was going to be first, but they've got
some problems right now. Is that holding up negotiations with India?
Do you know?
Speaker 6 (05:51):
I don't know that the details on it. I think yes,
clearly the Indian government wanted it done quickly. The tensions
of Pakistan can't really you know, help right now in
terms of think something done quickly. But yeah, I mean, look,
I think I think there's a symbolic importance and a
substance of importance to being early. And I think there's
you know, there's a little bit of a race that
happened to try to to try to be you know,
(06:12):
kind of the first one, you know, the first one
out of of the blocks on this and a little
surprised that it's the British government, but I suppose it
shouldn't be that surprised. And given the insability in Britain,
I think there's a lot of uh, you know, a
lot of interest in just making sure you can get
something locked down early on.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Here one last question about the tariffs, because everybody talks
about China as being, you know, the the big fish
and you have to get that one done. Scott Bessen
has been lowering expectations about his talks in Switzerland except
for the fact that he wants to de escalate, and
you mentioned the fifty percent. It sounds like that's going
to happen.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
Yeah, I mean, I think I think if Trump wants
it to be done, he says, it's up to best
and if you want to lower tarer free but you know,
the Chinese has said, you know, go back down to
where it was before. The President ruled that out the
other day. But look, this is I think the markets
are starting to realize as well that even when the
President makes a declarative statement this is the policy, this
is never going to happen, or this will definitely happen,
(07:10):
it actually doesn't mean that. And he is also acknowledged
at the same time that he wants to negotiate on things.
And I think is the negotiations become part of this.
Other countries are watching, companies are watching, and you know,
we'll have to see where it lands, if he likes
to say, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
How it plays that let's talk about history being made.
The new Cardinals an American.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
It's incredible and you know, it's I think a magical
moment for Catholics, even for non Catholics to see it
and to watch it. And you know, funny to think
about the fact that the new popeud have an opinion
on the best kind of pizza or the you know,
Cubs or White Sox, and you know, the a Bears
fan and the Villanova Villanova grad. It it's wild and
I think it, you know, changes, I think the way
(07:49):
Americans view the Pope, whether you're Catholic or not, because
you know, to have you know, a consequential one of
the most consequential world leaders be an American, even if
he's representing a church and a religion. That's that's you know,
many many miles away. Just get changes the power dynamics.
And you know, Donald Trump was talking about how important
it was for him, and as he realized that it's
(08:09):
never been an American before. But you can't help but
think about this through an American lens and think, Okay,
now you're gonna have someone who doesn't have a foreign accent,
who has this huge platform, who doesn't have to worry
about primary voters or the next midterms, and frankly is
going to be around potentially for a lot longer than
any current office holder, who's going to have this huge
(08:29):
moral and political impact. I really think usually we think
about these popes and they and they just you know,
it happens and then it's and then it's over. I
think this is the beginning of the story, not the end.
Speaker 7 (08:39):
You know.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
We had Shannon Kingston on a moment ago and she
really disappointed me because I was looking forward to a
confirmation hearing with Jennine Pierro. I thought it was much
seed Must See TV. I was gonna have people over,
We're gonna have popcorn. And now she's saying, because it's interim,
they may not that may not ever happen. Is that
what you understand?
Speaker 8 (08:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:59):
I mean I think it's you know, similar to the
National Security Advisor or Foreimer National advisor Mike Walton now
on tap for the u N. It may never get
to that stage and we may be dealing with interims
for a while because the votes never got there. We'll
see With Judge Buro, she's obviously a well known quantity.
She's very close to Donald Trump. There are I mentioned
(09:19):
people not having to worry about primary voters. Will senators
do so? They may if the pressure's on, they may
be forced to do something there the you know, the
the end of the Ed Martin era. You know, it
only means that he's going to be in a different post,
not the US Attorney for the District of Columbia. But
we'll see Judge Purous, like I said, known quantity as
a television personality, but not really as a head prosecutor.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
I was surprised that some of the Democrats who were
upset with President Biden for coming out on CNN, on
NMSNBC because they said they don't need him right now.
They don't need a reminder of Joe Biden when they
feel a little bit of momentum.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
Yeah, I mean, look, there aren't many Democrats I met
and said they want to hear more from Joe Biden
right now. And he was on the View yesterday and
you know, talking about how he wasn't really surprised by
the election outcome because of the races and the sexes,
and he still thinks he could have won. I don't
know where the pass forward is with that. I think
we're past the one hundred days. We're also remember there's
a few books coming out in the next couple of
weeks that purport to show people hovering up his medical
(10:19):
or physical or mental condition, and I think he wanted
to get ahead of that. But I don't think there's
many Democrats that think Joe Biden's part of the answer
going forward.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
And you'll be talking about all this on this week.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Yeah, Martha's going to be in Rome talking about the
fallout of the New Cope and what it means to
have this American pope. She also just got back from Russia,
if you can believe it or not, she talked to
the foreign minister about the Russia Ukraine War.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Wonderful. Rick Klein, ABC News Washington Bureau Chief, will all
be watching this week with George Deefanopolis on Sunday. Thanks
so much, Ricky, thank you. Okay, let's talk about something
uncomfortable passing gas. Now there's a new product that apparently
makes it smell chocolate. It's not a joke. We'll tell
you about it next. Plus tickets to see the Doobie Brothers.
(11:05):
Thanks so much for your talkbacks. We have some leading
contenders already for the contest Talkback of the Morning. When
you get a mentee in the Morning T shirt, you
just go to the iHeartRadio app. You look for seven
to ten WR There you're going to find the talkback feature.
You push the microphone, you record your message, and you're
on the air.
Speaker 9 (11:26):
Yeah, this whole thing about Janine Piro being appointed as
a judge in Washington, the Liberals are wedding their pants
over this, and they're just saying, they're carrying on social
media that she's not qualified and this and that. And
she was a district attorney in Westchester County for about
ten or twelve years, and she was a judge for
a number of years, so she's more than qualified. You know,
(11:48):
I wish they would just quit this stuff, you know,
the bunch of crybabies.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah, she's up for us attorney, not judge. But I
understand I would have you can make that mistake because
she is Judge Janine on Fox News, and I am
I'm looking forward to it only because it's going to
be must see television every time she holds a news conference,
every time she has to take on one of the
(12:13):
people that are criticizing her. That's why I'm hoping so
much that it's not just interim, that there are actually
confirmation hearings, because would you love to see Judge Janine
Piro taking on the Democrats in her confirmation hearing? There
would be nothing better.
Speaker 10 (12:32):
Hello, regarding Mother's Day, the day is called Mother's Day,
it is not called my mother's Day. So you honor
everyone who is a mother in your life, especially living
in your house.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
You know, we've had so many talkbacks on this topic.
A winner may be the best.
Speaker 11 (12:55):
One that was good, that was so good, not my
Mother's Day.
Speaker 12 (13:00):
Mother's Day. Celebrate all the mothers and people who are
mother figures.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Now, I don't feel stupid all these years spending all
his money on Mother's Day for my wife, and I
never really thought it out. I just know that I
had to or I would be I would really really
be to go to the brunch. Yeah, exactly, it's not
going to the brunch. I really love the brunch. I
(13:28):
don't like the bill at the end of the brunch
is what I don't like.
Speaker 12 (13:31):
They make you pay.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Oh yeah, they jack up the prices for mother Day.
They make me pay it all.
Speaker 11 (13:38):
A few more years, your kids will start taking their
mom out.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Yeah, we'll see if we can all dream can't wait,
that'd be wonderful. Uh So let's get into this story,
which you probably don't even want to hear. But there's
a guy that claims he has invented a pill so
that when you pass guests it, you know, it doesn't
smell like it's supposed to. It smells like something wonderful.
(14:03):
And he gives you even choices. I said, chocolate. It's
not just chocolate. It's chocolate. It can be ginger, it
can be road. Are you okay, Jackline, I just love it.
Speaker 12 (14:18):
I think it's just so incredibly weird.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Well, if you see the picture of the guy, we
really should post this. If you see the picture of
the guy, he is incredibly weird, okay, And so nobody
knows if this is a joke or not. And he's French.
And by the way, listen to what he the word
for the word for passing gas tooting, I can I
guess we can say without offending anybody, is pollulay in French.
Speaker 11 (14:46):
Oh so it sounds like a nice word, like if
someone said, would you like a nice pollulay for lunch?
Speaker 1 (14:50):
I would have been like, yeah, oh, you'd get a
nose fall at that point. But it's called the play pet.
The pet is what it means is the two pill.
And so some people have put it to the test.
There are some people they need the journalism because it's
really investigative journalism to do this, that put it to
(15:14):
the test. And one woman who took it she's a
YouTuber and she eats it all. Put the chocolate one
to the test.
Speaker 12 (15:23):
Angie eats it all.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Yeah, well and she does. She tried this. Isn't it
a great name for a podcast?
Speaker 13 (15:30):
It is?
Speaker 1 (15:30):
So the site recommends eating two to six capsules per day,
or just taking two capsules per day with your food,
And she took them and after two weeks she didn't
pass gass at all. Not only did it not smell,
they were gone. It never happened. BuzzFeed also checked it
out and they conclude the pills do not work, but
(15:53):
it makes a great story and Now Jacqueline carl with
the eight thirty News Jacqueline.
Speaker 12 (15:58):
Good Morning.
Speaker 11 (15:58):

Speaker 1 (17:50):

(19:22):
how about this, We're giving away tickets to see the
Beach Boys every morning at A twenty five, Well did
you watch the view? The Joe Biden rehabilitation tour is
not going as planned. Even on the view, he had
problems here for yourself. Next and you can catch the
latest of Katie Couric's Next Question podcast as she sits
(19:46):
down with the iconic Christy Brinkley for an intimate conversation
on the moments in her life that shaped her, from
her bohemian days in Paris to the glitz of Studio
fifty four, from the height of modeling fame to the
unexpected heartbreak she suffered in her life, all of which
is now finally captured in Brinkley's new memoir, Uptown Girl.
(20:11):
Don't miss Katie's chat with Christy. Open the free iHeartRadio
app and search Next Question with Katie Couric Today. Well,
some people have no shame whatsoever. There's going to be
a series of books coming out starting in just a
couple of weeks about President Biden's mental decline. People in
(20:31):
the media are going to put a book out. Also,
some people that worked in the White House have books
coming out, and they're all going to expose this cover
up that they were part of it is so hypocritical
for them now to come out with books to talk
(20:52):
about President Biden's mental decline, which we all finally saw
at the debate with Donald Try to come out now
after taking part in the cover up, after hurting America,
after hurting the Democratic Party, because he would have dropped
out a long time ago if this had been exposed.
(21:13):
But for people like Jake Tapper at CNN to write
this book now when he's holier than now, when you
can easily go to YouTube right now and go through
clip after clip after clip after clip of him shooting
back and fighting back and even insulting those who dared
to bring it up. It was an immense media cover up.
(21:34):
It was immense White House cover up. And now you know,
after it was obvious for everybody, after everybody was exposed,
they disposed of them. They got rid of them. They
knew they were going to lose the election, so they
got rid of them. So now he's doing this rehabilitation tour,
or he's he thought it was going to be a
real rehabilitation tour. It's actually been very embarrassing. He started
(21:57):
with the BBC, and don't even ask me why he
started with the BBC. I think he wants to get
out in front of these books, but I'm not sure
why the BBC. What made a lot more sense was
the second day when he went on the View, because
that's a soft landing. No matter what he does there,
they're going to support him, right, And so he goes
on there and one of the first things he's asked
(22:21):
is about Kamala Harris and how Kamala Harris lost and
why Kamala Harris lost.
Speaker 16 (22:29):
I've never seen quite as successful and a consistent campaign
under cutting the notion that a woman couldn't leave the
country and a woman of mixed trace.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
He still delusional. Do you remember it one time during
the campaign where you could point to something and say
that was sexist, that was racist? There was never there
was never a moment. There was never a moment. Was
she a babbling idiot? Yes? Could she not do interviews? Yes?
(23:02):
All of that was fair, But we all saw that
it didn't matter if she was a woman, it didn't
matter if she was a mixed race. She was not qualified,
and somehow she found a running mate who was less
qualified than she was, who made her look good. So
he just started with a lie and then in the
(23:24):
debate that ended his presidency, that made it so he
couldn't run, he still said, well, look at I've won
every debate in my life, and in that one, I
just had a bad night. I was sick.
Speaker 16 (23:38):
I was no excuse, but I was and I had
a bad, bad night. Yeah, and and I had anyway,
I want to come.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
Do you immediately know you had had a bad night?
Speaker 7 (23:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:52):
I did.
Speaker 16 (23:52):
But even after that, the Post showed me down by
two points.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
That's well, first of all, another lie there. You weren't
down by two points. You were cratering in the polls
after that, any poll taken right after that debate, you
were cratering. Now, maybe you found a poll that had
not been updated, and that's what you're grabbing onto and believing.
But man, he just lies. And then I don't even
(24:17):
have to play any of him in office. And I
have to play Robert Hurr from the Robert Hurr Report,
who couldn't who couldn't bring charges against him because he
was so forgetful and he was so snile. I can
just play some of the things he said on the view.
Speaker 16 (24:32):
We're also in a situation where we found ourselves unable
to deal with a lot of just basic issues and
I won't go into him in t interest of time.
And so we went to work and we got it done.
And you know, one of the things that that.
Speaker 17 (24:51):
Well well, and you know, one of the things I
think is that the people who wrote those books were
not in the White House with us, and they didn't
see how hard Joe worked every single day.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Jill came in to save him, and you should have
seen him as she is saving him from himself from
embarrassing himself. He was staring down as if he was vacant.
You know, I'm not. I don't want to make fun
of it, because it is. It is a little bit
(25:26):
of it. It's said, except for the fact that she
I believe it's her keeps pushing him out there. Come on, Joe,
you still have a role. You have a still have
a role in the Democratic Party. I mean, over and
over again when he was talking, sometimes he was incoherent.
Speaker 16 (25:44):
The projects, the benefits. How do you lead the world
having had the best instructional How do you lead the
world having been out him in the best healthcare role?
How do you mean the world without having the best
education as well? How do you lead the world, and
you don't have that done right.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
When he got started, he was okay, But in the
beginning he was like porky pig. You know, he doesn't
have a place in politics anymore. Why can't he just leave?
Why can't he just retire gracefully? Why can he be
this senior statesman without a brain? Even the Democrats don't
want this.
Speaker 18 (26:20):
Democratic voters are over him. Democratic lawmakers are angry at him,
and Democratic donors are over him. They're passed and they're
done with him. They don't want him around. And just practically,
it's a very bad time for Joe Biden to pop up.
Voters are just now starting to blame the economy on
Donald Trump and less on Joe Biden. For him to
(26:43):
pop up and remind people of the battle days, it's
just it's bad timing.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
No, it is bad timing. And so what am I saying?
Keep bringing them out there, keep putting him out there. Joe,
You're doing great. Please more media for Joe Biden so
people can remember how bad it was.
Speaker 6 (27:03):
Well.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
New Yorkers right now they are buzzing with excitement over
the election of Popolio the fourteenth, the first American pope
from Saint Patrick's Cathedral to the streets of Brooklyn, the
faithful or hopeful and curious about what his leadership will bring.
W O rs. Natalie Migliori gets the beat on the
street next.
Speaker 10 (27:24):
Now he's seventeen woars Beat on the Street with Natalie Migliore.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Well, what else would the beat on the street be
about today? Then the new American Pope, Natalie Migliori take
it away. Good morning to you.
Speaker 8 (27:40):
Good morning, Larry, God bless now. Ah, it's a new day,
especially in the Roman Catholic Church. As Pope Leo the
fourteenth gives his first Mass as Pontiffin Vatican City. He's
the two hundred and sixty seventh leader of the Roman
Catholic Church, but the very first US born Pope. There's
a buzz outside Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
Speaker 15 (28:02):
Very exciting.
Speaker 12 (28:03):
I know, it's great for America.
Speaker 17 (28:04):
I never thought they'd pick an American hope.
Speaker 15 (28:06):
Oh my gosh, it is so exciting and so unbelievable.
Speaker 11 (28:11):
I think we were so shocked that it's someone from
the United States.
Speaker 13 (28:16):
I think it's about time Catholics are making a comeback.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
We're excited America Catholics making a comeback.
Speaker 13 (28:22):
I think I'm in a dream. It's surreal. It's hard
to believe. We never thought this would happen. I mean,
it's a blessed event. It's happening for the right reason.
It's in the hands of God. And I think we're very,
very lucky. We're lucky to have any pope, but especially
this Paul. But we're lucky to be here in front
of Saint Patrick's.
Speaker 8 (28:43):
Yeah, born in Chicago. He was just Robert Prevost yesterday
and today he's Pope Leo the fourteenth. The name Leo,
experts day suggests a deep commitment to social issues.
Speaker 13 (28:55):
You know, there are social issues, and there are issues
in the church that you know are etched in tradition.
I think there are two different things.
Speaker 11 (29:03):
Well, they said it's going to be a continuation of Francis,
and that would be a blessing for all of us.
Speaker 15 (29:07):
Now, I hope that he will see the inequities among
everyone religion, gender, race, and creed.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
Hopefully soften it up a bit. It's been a little rough.
Hopefully connect us a little bit as well.
Speaker 17 (29:23):
A little bit of unity will hurt right now.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
I hope it'll bring peace to the world.
Speaker 8 (29:29):
Now, Roman Catholics, as you hear, very hopeful, especially since
Pop Leo is viewed as a centrist but considered progressive
on social issues, just like Pope Francis.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
I think he's going to continue the legacy of the Leos,
which are compassion, care for equality, and everybody's inclusive into
the church. And why I think Saint Francis choose a
lot of these cardinals to follow his legacy, and I
think this pope will represented quite well and be.
Speaker 15 (29:58):
Alon Harty in line.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
Heart.
Speaker 15 (30:00):
It means that you have to make tough decisions in
order to bring everybody else along.
Speaker 11 (30:06):
Let's go more inclusive, more accepting, that's what we need.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Now.
Speaker 8 (30:12):
Pope Leo might be you aske born, but he is
a citizen of Peru, where he served for decades before
rising to become the bishop of that diocese. Born in
nineteen fifty five. That puts him at sixty nine years old,
far young, far younger than the last two popes when
they took the helm of the room.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
Yeah, he's only sixty nine years old. So I think
he's going to be able to office health healths up,
you know, then he's going to be able to maintain
a fantasy for many many more years, which is good.
Hopefully twenty twenty five years, we have some continuous too.
Speaker 15 (30:43):
He's here for a purpose, that's all I have to say.
Whether it be a year, ten years, or twenty more years,
he's here.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
For a purpose.
Speaker 8 (30:50):
Now, Larry, I just have to share this story. When
Pope Francis died, we were all standing around the cardinal
in St. Patrick's Cathedral and the cardinal was saying that
when Pope Francis came to New York, he was so
surprised at the greeting that he got. He said that
he didn't realize that Americans were so religious. And I
(31:11):
think that that's so amazing because we've gone from a
pope in you know, in Italy who didn't realize how
devout some Catholics are here to now the first US
born pope. And I think that really says something anything,
and I think that's why people are so amazed by
it out on the street.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
So oh, I'm sorry, I thought you had sound coming up.
I didn't know. I think this is really important to
America and I'm so glad it happened. As an American Catholic,
I am so glad this finally happened, because I do.
I get the feeling. And if you're a Catholic, you've
seen it too. When you go to church. The numbers
(31:52):
are way down, and the money coming into the Catholic
Church is way down, and people have been straying absolutely
from the ur And I think this might be galvanizing
for the American Catholic Church, and it seems to be already,
and so I see nothing but positive from this choice.
I agree with you. I completely agree with you, Natalie
(32:14):
that I think this is a great choice for America.
Speaker 8 (32:17):
Yeah, but I also think I see that people are
starting to and there are reports and studies that show
that younger people are starting to come back to the
Catholic Church. So let's see how those numbers, you know,
pick up or decrease as time goes on.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Yeah, I hope you're right. I will. That'd be wonderful
if you were right. I haven't seen that personally when
I go to church, but I hope you are absolutely right.
Natalie will be back Monday morning at eight point fifty.
How will the new pope lead the Catholic Church? Will
there be a new direction. We'll talk with Monsignor Joseph Grimaldi,
Vicar General of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Next, that's after
(32:55):
