Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, in the Big Three, there's gonna be a lot
of people late for work today, so they have a
good excuse. There's been a major disruption to the morning
commute for bus riders that are heading into New York
after two to three buses were involved in a crash
near the entrance of the Port Authority bus terminal. The
(00:21):
entrance to the terminal has been closed down. It's been
closed since six point thirty this morning. New Jersey Transit
says buses headed to New York are now being diverted
to Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, and Hoboken Terminal. More
than a dozen people have been treated for non life
threatening injuries at the scene because of the buses involved
(00:45):
in the crash. It's unclear at this point what caused
the crash, but yeah, there's gonna be a lot of
people either not coming to work or late for work,
so they have a really good excuse. Also in the
Big Three, the jury and the Sean Diddy Comb sex
traffic trial have reached a verdict on counts four on
(01:06):
four of the five counts, so counts two through five
not the top count and the most severe of racketeering,
and the judge wants them to keep deliberating on that
fifth and most important charge.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
We have this note saying as a partial verdict, saying
that they have an unpersuadable opinion between them when it
comes to that first count of racketeering conspiracy, but they
have a verdict as it applies to the other four accounts.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
The Big Beautiful Bill passes the Senate fifty one to fifty,
with Vice President jd Vance having to break the tie.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
And this is not going to sail through the House.
We're going to have to negotiate with the Senate one
more time. And that's just appropriate. That's the way the
legislative process works and the way it should work on
a bill of this side.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Now, we had Nicole Malattakas on a second ago and
she was saying just the opposite. She thinks it's going
to sail right through the house. So there are some
deficit hawks saying something completely different. We'll have to wait
and find out. The final numbers are in on the
Democratic mayoral primary, and it was a bigger win for
Zora and Mom Donnie than we first thought. So what
(02:13):
did Zora Mom Donnie do? He put out a video
and had a dance party.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
We always thought our victory would come after multiple rounds
of ranked twist voting, So when we got more first
round votes than Eric Adams gotten seven rounds in the
last collection, it was astonishing.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Mom Donnie beat Cuomo by double digits fifty six to
forty four percent in just the third round of ranked
choice voting, so it was pretty close to a landslide.
And Donald Trump has a warning to zorin, Mom Donnie,
if he follows through with his promise to stop ICE
(02:48):
from doing its job in New York City, well then
we'll have to arrest him. Look, we don't need a
communist in this country, but if we have one, I'm
going to be watching over them very carefully. On behalf
of the nation. And maybe my favorite story of the day,
a politician in New Jersey is going full Donald Trump.
He wants to rename the Delaware Bay. Just like Donald
(03:09):
Trump wanted to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the
Gulf of the America, he wants to rename the Delaware
Bay to the Bay of New Jersey.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
Oh, not good at all.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
This is the Delaware Bay.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
I don't even want New Jersey to be there. Let
alone down to rename the Delaware Bay. They want to
name a little piece of land on their side, that's fine,
but not the whole day. Yeah, it doesn't look like
South Jersey State Senator Mike Testa's idea is really going
to go anywhere except for the fact that, yeah, we're
talking about him, and so is everybody else because it's
(03:43):
kind of a crazy idea. So he got a lot
of publicity on that. Now, let's talk to a to
Sarah Iker, ABC News contributor in Washington, And Sarah, here
we go. We wrapped up the Supreme Court. All the
final decisions are in for now. I'm sure there's some
more cases to come in a later round, but let's
(04:06):
talk about some of them, the most important ones. And
I know you want to deal and I'm glad you
are with birthright citizenship because there's a lot of different
interpretations out there. Tell us exactly what happened.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
Yeah, So this case, of course, was never about the
merits of Trump's birthright citizenship EO, where he's reinterpreting the
Fourteenth Amendments clause, which says that anyone born in the
United States subject to the jurisdiction thereof is automatically a
citizen of the United States. This was about whether and
how that executive order could be put on hold as
(04:46):
they decide the question of whether that's constitutional for a
president to reinterpret the Fourteenth Amendment. So what the Supreme
Court said is no, the way that the judges have
been doing it for all of these executive orders under Biden,
under Trump, under Obama, under George W. Bush, is it working. However,
they also said there's all these other ways that you
(05:08):
can still stop a president's executive order if it's unlawful,
or a law of Congress for that matter, or anything else.
So I don't know that we're expecting any huge changes
that people will notice. I don't expect Donald Trump's birthright
Citizen executive order to go into effect. The Supreme Court's
opinion is on hold for thirty days basically, So you know,
(05:29):
I heard a lot of panic out there from people
that they're worried if they're pregnant, you know, how are
they going to prove citizenship or things like that. Don't
worry for now. Everything at this point is the same
way it was.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yes, Sarah, I thought there was a lot of fear
mongering in the media with this, and they were reporting
it poorly because many of them were interviewing people saying
exactly what you just said, how worried they were that
their child's not going to be a citizen in the
United States anymore. And that really wasn't the what the
case was about. That was never decided. Did you see
(06:04):
the same thing. There was a lot of misinformation being spread,
wasn't there.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Yes, this executive order is not going into effect this month,
and if it were to go into effect, it would
not be retroactive. So if you have a child in
the United States, they are a citizen of the United States.
If you are expecting a child. Again, the Supreme Court
even said that for this executive order, a court could
(06:30):
still bar it nationwide, and they could have class actions
which have already been filed, and they could bring a
different challenge under what's called the Administrative Procedure Act, where
they could still set aside the executive order nationwide. So
I do not think that this executive order is going
to go into effect even for five minutes. And I
(06:52):
also think that the Supreme Court is eager at this
point now to rule on the merits of the constitutionality
of that, and I don't I don't see that lasting
very long in terms of whether a president acting alone
can change how the United States has been defining that
clause of the fourteenth Amendment for the last one hundred
and fifty years.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
One of the most surprising things about the ruling was
the fact that we've been told all along how the
conservative judges and the liberal judges they get along. When
they're not talking the law, they all get along. And
I've heard Soda Mayor talking about this, how much she
likes some of the conservative judges and how nice they are,
(07:34):
and how they're very good friends. And there have been
reports that there's a growing tension now between the two sides,
and I thought that came to the forefront when Amy
Komi Barrett seemed to attack Katanji Brown Jackson, who had
the minority opinion. I'm sure you read that. What did
(07:55):
you make of it?
Speaker 6 (07:57):
Yeah, pretty feisty words, but you knowing that Justice Sodomyora said,
is that they leave the fire on the page, and so, yep,
they get all their feelings out in these written opinions,
and then in person they are able to get along
very well. I also think it's worth noting, you know,
forty two percent of the opinions this term were unanimous,
and the Chief Justice Roberts, Justice Kavanaugh, and Justice Barrett
(08:22):
were the three justices most likely to be in the majority.
That's been true since they've joined the court. But the
number four justice most likely to be in the majority
this term was Justice Kagan. So not Justice Thomas, not
Justice Alito, not Justice Force. It the three you know,
sort of most staunch conservatives. Nope, it was Justice Kagan
(08:42):
who was the fourth most likely to be in the majority.
And you know, we only had nine percent of the
cases decided six' three along those ideological lines with all
of the liberals in, dissent and of the closely divided
cases it was fifteen percent on each. Side so fifteen
percent had all of the liberals on one side and
(09:04):
fifteen percent had only the conservatives on one. Side so
when you step back for a, second it's a far more,
interesting complicated picture about nine people kind of trying to
get to the right answer in all of these difficult.
CASES i, mean remember that forty two percent unanimous. Number
The Supreme court only takes the cases that have. Divided
(09:25):
the smartest lower court judges across the, Country so for
them to even get to know about half of their
cases where they all agree on the, outcome IT'S i
think a sign of.
Speaker 1 (09:35):

Workaholic that may be bad for your mental? Health we'll
talk with career advice Expert greg g And grande about that.
Next all, right, now let's get. There Greg Gan, grande
(18:21):
career advice. Expert check them out at go To greg dot.
COM i love this, topic the topic of. Workaholics, now
is it true that being a workaholic can be bad
for your mental?
Speaker 7 (18:35):
Health, well it depends on how you're actually defining. Workaholic
people have different. DEFINITIONS i know some people who work
five hours a day and they think, like oh my,
God i'm a. WORKAHOLIC i work so. Hard it's like
you have no idea what working? Hard isn't? Working? Well
(18:55):
but here's here's here's an interesting. Quiz according to like
LinkedIn and some other, surveys what percentage of employees do
you think self identify as? Workaholics, yes.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
Seventy, oh so.
Speaker 7 (19:13):
It's much less than, that it's a. Third a third
of EMPLOYEES i self identify as. Workaholics and some of
the criteria are, like you, know is everything? Urgent how
long is your to do? List do you have difficulty?
Delegating like do you wake up and the first thing
you do is check? Email and you're on email right
(19:34):
before you go to? Bed like things like, That and
of course it's bad for your mental, health it's bad
for your physical health if you don't find. Balance and
that's why so many companies are placing a lot of
importance and they're really promoting work life. Balance not that
people should as, productive but how can you be equally
(19:59):
productive or even more, productive but not work as hard
or as. Stressfully sometimes it's a matter of just changing
habits and working differently where you can be just as
productive but work fewer.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Hours, WELL i do know a lot of, People well
a lot of people Say i'm a, workaholic And i've
always thought of that as a. POSITIVE i don't think
it's ever affected my mental. Health it's hurt, Relationships i'll
tell you. That BUT i would think that bosses love.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
Workaholics, well you, know even the name suggests something, negative like, aholic, right,
RIGHT i get, it that's not a good. Thing so
there's a difference between someone who is really committed to
their career and works a lot and they derive joy from, that,
right that is how they get, joy and as long
(20:49):
as it's not negatively affecting other aspects of their life
that are important to, Them like you just acknowledge that
it has had an impact on. Relationships so so maybe
there is a balance there to. Find but it's if
your work becomes so consuming that you are foregoing other
(21:10):
things in your life that are important that bring you,
joy then you're probably working either too hard or not
in the most effective way where you can be equally
productive but not have to stress about the amount of
hours you're putting.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
In are there, workplaces, however that are concerned about. WORKAHOLICS
i always just think that most, bosses MOST hr people
would take that as a.
Speaker 7 (21:39):
Positive, no actually it's the. Opposite most workplaces are concerned about,
it because then you start dealing with the long term
negative impact of, that like you can't you can't sustain
that level of productivity and engagement without burning. Out so
(21:59):
smart successful companies are always promoting. Balance so that means
whether it's working flexibly or giving generous paid time off,
policies or just like scheduling days that meetings aren't, Allowed
like for, example our, company we have No Zoom wednesday,
(22:20):
mornings so for the first part of Every, wednesday you're
not allowed to Have zoom. Meetings companies are implementing all
kinds of initiatives to force employees to find more time
and more balance to not work because it's better for
(22:42):
the long term kind of, engagement long term, productivity long term.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Health, YEAH i agree with. You i'm one other THING
i wanted to bring up, today if that's, okay and
that is the fact that we had a bus accident
and a lot of people are going to be late for.
Work as a matter of, fact a lot of people
may not be able to make it into work and
they all have to now call their employers and explain
to them what. HAPPENED i will tell you that from
(23:09):
past experience in my own, life that sometimes doesn't go
as well as it should even when you have a good,
excuse have you dealt with? THIS i would imagine this
is a Separate this is kind of a separate story
from what people deal with when people call in late the.
(23:30):
Work if you have a real emergency that everybody knows,
about that's one. Thing but when you, have like for,
instance a family emergency or some reason why you can't
make it, in is that always treated well by? Companies
do they have to treat that? Well or are there sometimes? Problems?
Speaker 7 (23:49):
Well they don't have to treat it. Well there's no
law that requires them to treat it. Well but most
employers today and most leaders, TODAY i think it's been
so much published about what makes a good, leader on
what makes a good. Culture if it's a one, off
whether it's a family emergency or certainly something like this,
today there is no. Issue there should be no issue
(24:10):
just calling in and explaining what. Happened where it becomes
a problem if it's always, Something if you're that employee
where it's always something today it's, family tomorrow is the plumbing.
Burst the next day there was traffic on. It like
if there's a, pattern then it understandably would cause an
(24:30):
employer to not be a sympathetic you, know to each
one of these incidents if it's a one, off so you,
know if you have an emergency and you can't come,
in just call your boss and tell them what's going
on and promise to stay connected as best you. Can
and as long as it's not a pattern of such,
behavior there really shouldn't be an. Issue most companies and
(24:52):
leaders today are sympathetic to think that.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Happens but you said something. Important it's always the. Pattern
if you do this a, lot every time you can
call in is going to be, suspect.
Speaker 7 (25:01):
Right, yeah oh, YEAH i mean and every and every
company like takes note of that. Person it's, like you,
know we all have, stuff, right all of us have
things that, happen but this person always seems to have
something going on all the, time and then you get
a reputation and then there's less tolerance for for things
that come.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
