Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now it's sevent ten wars Feed on the Street with
Natalie Migliori.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
We had another horrific attack in a subway yesterday, So
how are New Yorkers feeling about that? And how are
they feeling about the subways in general. Natalie Migliori has
the Beat on the Street. Good morning, Natalie, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Good morning Larry. One attack yesterday and then is in
custody of fifty six year old men recovering randomly, police say,
attacked while sleeping on the subway system. We are doing
a temperature check on the New York City subway system
this morning because of that. And it's not just because
it's hot in almost every station and on every platform.

(00:45):
Trust I know I'm still cooling off. But the NCAA
is taking some of the heat off of riders this summer. Pressing.
Paul's on next month's spare hike that would have made
fares go up to three dollars might be a good thing,
since some riders still have gripes with the two dollars
and ninety cents fares.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
It's a little expensive for the condition.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
I know it takes a while to fix the trains.
To fix like the tracks and stuff like that. I
just wish we had more. I don't know, like I
think more trains to come by so we don't have
to waste so long.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
I have no choice. I have to go to work.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Honestly, with the amount of money that they put in,
that they take from us, they should get better. It
could always be better. There's certain stuff.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Train not too clean sometimes, could always be better.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
I gotta take the train, so I'm gonna pay it
either way.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, that's really no choice. A lot of people telling
me this morning it's their only way to get around,
especially as quickly as possible. It really all comes, especially
this subway, this subway attack yesterday. It all comes. As
Governor Hope announced, major crime is down by at least
three percent on the subway system. So are people feeling safer?

(01:53):
Are they seeing police officers?

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Well, there's a lot of mental illness walking around and
you don't know what capable of doing. And you have
to always be alert, you know, because I want to
live it too much.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Homeless people, too many lunatics in the train at caron
out and stuff. Right now and now it feels a
little more better.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
I see cops, but I think cops should be also
on the train, not just in a station.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Maybe if you saw them down here would be a
little high end deal of security.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
And I think there should be cameras on the train cars,
in every car, and somebody should watch what's.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Going on, like in a live time. Now. That was Lilianna.
She said she was attacked two years ago on the subway.
I asked her, you know, how do you get back
on right away? When did you get back on? She
said she got back on the next day because she
had no other way around. Now. I saw the NYPD
add in full force at the Columbus Circle station this morning. Mind,

(02:49):
you would have a unit within the subway station. But
cops are not just on the platforms. There in the
skye using drones to catch subway surfers. And even though
New York City he has launched an educational campaign against
subway surfing. Cops say they've made at least two hundred
arrests for subway surfing this year alone.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
My friend's subway sir, I tell him to stop, but
he don't listen.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Why do they subway surf for fun?

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Because why I'm not And I've seen the videos well,
the aftermath which isn't nice, but I haven't seen it myself.
It's not safe at all, And hopefully these kids learn
a little better. Hopefully the parents can help out too.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
It's all you can ask something crazy. I haven't seen it,
and I would like to see that, because I know
we're not gonna end good.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
You're just gonna get hurt, like and then that's what
makes it longer, the trains and everything, like if we're
doing that. And now this is the reason why I'm
late for work.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yes, riders will take an on time train over anything, Larry,
And maybe it's not because of getting to work, but
because they want to beat this sticky heat on the platform.
And of course I was along the one train this morning,
which is the subway line with the most complaints overheat
so far this summer.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
It's okay for me.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
I'm from the Caribbean, so it's time for me.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
It's hot. Some trains are pretty good with the temperature,
Some need hope.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Some just got people laying in there making it worse.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
I guess I don't want to say it's a price
you pay for an air conditioning train, but you know,
I'd rather have AC on a train. So and here's
gonna be hot. Hopefully there's more signs that can be
done on making the station schooler. I don't know, some
fans or something because it's a little too hot.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
That heat doesn't bother me as much as I'm not safe.
I'm really scared, trying.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Not to stay in the platform not that long, because
if you wait for a train a long, you're going
to hear it. It's a choice. Or if you're not
used to New York subway trains, you're not come over
here because you're in to news weight quickly.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah, so you're gonna lose weight quickly. Get a splattered
all off and the reign of opinions this morning, though Larry,
I'm gonna take his opinion though, if if you're sitting
the subway all day, maybe you'll lose some water weight.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah, it could be now, you said, and it's pretty interesting.
At the very beginning of your report, you said you
were down there and it was oppressive. Was it bad?

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Is that bad?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah? It was pretty hot, and I was surprised. I
was like, oh, it's early in the morning, it's not
that hot this morning. We've had hotter days. But yeah,
I mean I was I was wedding. But it builds
in there.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
It builds day after day because it never gets cooler.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
And the trains are hot too. They're running, you know,
they're running their own so like their engines come through everything.
It's nice when two trains come through at the same time. Larry,
you get across, You're like, you're exactly right.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
I used to look like.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
That, like I'm like, so yeah. I would not recommend, though,
if you could avoid it, avoid it.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Thanks so much, Natalie Migliori. Natalie will be back tomorrow
morning at eight point fifty with her Beat on the Street.
