Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now it's seventen w RS Beat on the Street with
Natalie Migliori.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
It's one of the.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Stories where you say to yourself, are you kidding me?
A new musical by the life of healthcare assassin Luigi Mangeoni.
Would you go to watch that? Natalie Migliori asked that
question in her Beat on the Street today.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Natalie, Yeah, good morning, Larry I. Let's CEO United Healthcare
shooter Luisi Mangioni is still making headlines, and this time
for having a musical created in his name. Now the
sixty minute performance about the suspect prosecutors believe is responsible
for the early morning shooting in front of the Hilton

(00:45):
Hotel in Midtown Manhattan late last year. It's not coming
to Broadway, but to a small theater in California. So
what do people think?

Speaker 5 (00:55):
That's crazy?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Why? I think it's awful. I think that's ridiculous assuming
pleblisky with him for one, God, he had enough already.
I think that's just way too much. To me.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
That would be off limits.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I feel like they're using the situation as a hecho
publicity stunt. It's not taking seriously at all. Men was
murdered literally right here. Pretty crazy. I work pretty close by,
so I pass it every day and I think about
it pretty often.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Things go wrong, but you can't publicize it like it's
something good. You shoot somebody in the middle of the
street in the middle of Manhattan. Not a good thing.
It's about money and profit.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Now. I messaged a Broadway producer this morning asking what
he thought about the musical, and he said he thinks
it does cross the line, and if it makes it
to Broadway, he said, you really never know. Some people
don't necessarily have a problem with the musical that creators
have said is a comedy following Mangione's time in Metropolitan
Detention Center in Brooklyn, along with suppose cellmates p Diddy

(01:53):
and Sam Bateman freed Peter.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Is art and I think that if folks want to
express themselves in a health manner about the situation, then
I think that's perfectly fine. I mean, I think the
real question should be answered why CEO is like the
one who was murdered, is even allowed to go about
doing herndous things like rip off the people they're supposed
to be representing. So I think that's the bigger question
to ask.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Now, Mangioni is facing federal and state charges in connection
to the shooting, but his legal team is trying to
get state charges dropped. That's the most recent development. Another
major development was when a judge granted the twenty six
year old access to a laptop so he could review
his case while tucked away in jail.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
That's also ridiculous. He should be taken straight to death penalty.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
It just shows where the system is going the wrong way.
Why would you give him a laptop? I mean that
just shows unless everybody do what they want to do
and then they give rewarded for it, I don't think
so not a good thing.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
That's a broader issue.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
People do have needs when they're in jail.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Did not there's still people.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Now. The performance will have a limited run to time,
but in June, so later this year. It did make
a preview on social media with the organizers, but I
wish I could play you some sound from it. But
the audio quality wasn't that great. But more mixed reaction
on someone even attempting to make a play like this,
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I wonder who's writing the musical. That seems like a
quick turnaround. I don't think it should be surprising, I
suppose because a lot of people, especially in this day
and age, concerning social media and the way art is assumed.
It's a combination of the two. Art is the reflection
of what's going on and social media. I feel like
a few of the generations on social media don't take
things seriously.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Enough for that.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, a lot of people I work with, a lot
of people I don't work with, they feel like it's
a it's a good thing, like it's revenge. Some even
say it's self defense. I don't at all. I think
it's straight cold blooded murder right here on the heart
of Midtown. It'll always be.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Fans for good and bad. I've seen, you know, mass
murders and people still follow. So whether is good or bad,
you're gonna have fans for it. And if I guess
some people, I'm gon to make money off of it.
That's how it works in a capitalist society.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Yeah, Larry, So there you have it. A musical after
MANGIONI creators say it may just become your new favorite
felony that's what that's what. That's how they've dubbed it.
I guess.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, that's a cute tagline. I just I'm so scared
to death that this is going to do well, and
I just know that there's an underbelly of society that
looks at that and goes, well, that'll be cool. I mean, Natalie,
it has to shunk you as well. How many young

(04:41):
women are supporting this guy just because he.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Looks cute, That's very true. They call it Luigi Fever
when it first came out, so it's definitely very interesting.
It just how it blew up in his favor in
a sense. Young girl standing outside the courthouse right holding
signs in support of him. So whoever placed him on stage.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
I'm glad you called it Luigi Fever because it's a
sickness and it's the reason I'm afraid this play may
do well. And if it does well, where does it
go next? Stay tuned. Natalie Miglioroi will be back on
Monday at eight point fifty with her Beat on the Street.
