Speaker 1 (00:00):
Reagan Reeves white House corresponded for The Daily Call or
an Independent Women's Foreign visiting Fellow Foreign Women's Forum Visiting
Fellow is here as she had an unusual vantage point
to see the parade. Where did you watch it from? Reagan?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I was invited to a friend's rooftop in a little
just an area outside of the city in Virginia, and.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
It was great. We gathered there, we had the parade
going on the TV.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Everybody brought a dish to pass, had some beers, and
couldn't see the actual parade, but we did get the
opportunity to see the fireworks and the flyovers.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah, there's been a lot of pushback on this parade,
especially from Democrats, especially from far left democrats, who say
that this is what a dictator does. We shouldn't be
doing this in our country. This show of force is embarrassing.
What do you say to.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Them, Well, I I don't just don't understand as an
American why it's controversial.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
You know, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
A parade to celebrate American's history and the Army's two
hundred and fiftieth birthday, And so I guess my mom
was actually explaining to me that some of the pushback
was because they didn't like that Trump was gathering the
army and that seems kind of like a dictator and
showed that he has control over the army.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
And I.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Think when Democrats are in a really vulnerable place, and
I've seen a bunch of things on social media and
some stories about how they're trying to reclaim patriotism, because
I think now patriotism has become this thing that's part
of the right and for conservatives and Republicans, if they're
really trying to reclaim patriotism, being opposed to a parade
(01:49):
that shows off the strength of the United States of
America is a weak position to be in.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
And it was a celebration of America. I didn't hear
one of the arm service members, infantry men, all the
way up to the generals. I didn't hear one of
them complain or say this was a bad idea. Quite
the opposite. They seemed enthusiastic about this. Now it was
just for the anniversary. Are there any plans does Trump?
(02:16):
Do you know, at this point, have any plans of
continuing this.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
That's a great question. I had no idea President Trump.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
I know, well, it's the Marine's two hundred and fiftieth
birthday this year.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
It's also the Navy's two hundred and fiftieth birthday this year.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
So I think if President Trump wants to dodge allegations
at this parade was just for his birthday, which was
also on the fourteenth, he should probably be holding a
parade for the Marines and for the Navy.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
But I have yet to hear any plans of such.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
And you got an interview with Lee Greenwood, who is
seems to be late in his life. He's eighty two
years old, now, very close to Donald Trump, appears at
a lot of rallies, and that one song the guy
had thirty three hits on the charts, and it's one
song that he's known for and asked to sing all along.
(03:09):
What did you learn from the interview?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, well, Lee Greenwood has been or Trump's been using
Lee Greenwood's song God Bless the USA as his walkout
song for ten years, I mean ten years ago today
President Trump announced his bid for president, effectively changing American
politics forever. Lee Greenwood is also I just want to
point this out the same age as Joe Biden. They're
(03:35):
both maybe two years old, and Lee Greenwood was in
guitar singing God Bless the USA. He was on a
float singing God Bless the USA. This weekend, he's everywhere.
He's on the board of the Kennedy Center, and he's
helping President Trump with his revamping of the Kennedy Center,
and so.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
This guy is everywhere. I think it's so impressive.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
I personally have been a massive fan of the song
God Bless the USA. We would sing it after every
game at Hillsdale where I played softball, and so I
just loved the opportunity to interview Lee Greenwood.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Because I am a huge fan of his music.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Oh, I can tell that from your voice. People can
read about the interview and get excerpts of the interview
at Dailycoller dot com, especially if Reagan Reese has her
own page, you can find it there as well. What's
one takeaway that you took from the interview that really
was important to you.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
H that's a good question.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
I really enjoyed listening to him talk about the Kennedy Center.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
He was also appointed to some music boards under.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
The Biden and Obama and Bush administration, So this isn't
just you know, he's Donald Trump's friend and he's on
the board of the Kennedy Center. Now, this is a
guy that has been entrusted with responsibility in you know,
overseeing the arts of the United States of America four
past president and so I think just listening to him
(05:02):
and the work that they're doing on the Kennedy Center
was really eye opening. This isn't just like a stunt
that President Trump wants to do and is trying to
take advantage of. This is something that they these board
members feel passionate about and they really want the Kennedy
Center to be a hub for people to come and
enjoy the arts and celebrate American culture. And I think
(05:25):
that is going to be really eye opening for a
lot of readers.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I know you haven't probably been in to work yet,
maybe you have been or ovoted to the Capitol buildings,
but I understand there's going to be increased security because
of the assassination and the attempt at assassination in Minnesota.
Have you heard about tighter security and is there tension
that you know about on Capitol Hill right now?
Speaker 3 (05:52):
On Capitol Hill, I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
The President is not going to be in the country
this week. He's at the g seven in Canada. I'm
sure there'll be. There was already tighter security at the
White House for the parade. There's been a fence that's
been that had been up all week, and it increased
in presence of police officers in secret service.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
So you know, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Surprised that there's going to be more police presence, but
there already was in the city because of the potential riots.
So I'm not sure how much it's going to change,
but I'm going to take a look. I'm going to
be walking around all right.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
You can let us know next time we talked to you.
Reagan Rees White House correspondent for the Daily Call or
an Independent Woman's Foreign Visiting Fellow. Good to talk to you, Reagan.
Thank you
