Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's been a big ruling against Apple that you're gonna

(00:04):
want to know about. Let's get the latest on that
from the very popular Rich de Muro from rich on Tech.
Rich on Tech could be heard Sunday nights from eight
to eleven pm on wr rich on Tech is also
on Instagram. If you have some questions, that's at rich
on Tech. Now let's talk about this big ruling against Apple.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
What is this about, Rich, Yeah, this is a huge,
huge miss for Apple. It all stems from that argument
that they've been having with the makers of Fortnite. This
has been going on for like many years now, and
a US judge now has ruled that Apple violated their
twenty twenty one Core Order, which was meant to help

(00:46):
open up the app Store to third party payment options.
So this means most people on the iPhone, when they're
looking to buy an app, purchase, or subscribe to some
sort of service on the iPhone, that all go through
the App Store. Well, there are ways of getting those
subscriptions sometimes, but Apple doesn't want you to know that.
This core Order said developers were free to show you

(01:07):
those options. Apple hit a lot of those options, and
now this judge is even referring this case for criminal
investigation because they said Apple willingly did this and knowledge,
you know, wanted to make sure this stuff was hidden.
But the big news, Larry, I think for a lot
of people, especially kids out there, is that Fortnite is
finally going to come back to the App Store next

(01:30):
week because Epic says they are happy with this judgment.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, the criminal charges fascinate me, Rich because that would
be some individuals I would think, not just Apple as
a whole. And it'll be interesting to follow this story
to find out where this goes. But thanks for that's
that's absolutely fascinating and very important to know. You also
wanted to talk about a great new job hunting site

(01:56):
which people are always looking for. What is this one?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, this one is built right in the New York
City area, So they started in New York City and
it's all about working class folks and entry level job seekers.
So these are jobs that are hourly, but they are
w two positions. And the whole idea of this website,
which is called Bandana dot com, is that it's transparency,

(02:21):
so it's not just scraping these listings from other websites.
This company has gone out the startup has gone out
and it's interfaced with all of these companies in various areas,
and it's importing their job listings directly from their website.
And that means you're going to see the exact location
of every job in New York City. You can narrow

(02:42):
it down to the subway line that you want to
be near, which is really cool. You can see pay range,
you can see estimated taxes, take home pay, and also
any benefits you might get. So there's a whole bunch
of industries that are available on this website. And what
I love about it is that these are real listings,
like you're not going to be ghosted when you try

(03:04):
to apply to these jobs. They are actually going to
lead to a job. And it's just it's built with
sort of the everyday worker in mind. So many of
the websites like LinkedIn and things, they ignore these types
of jobs. This is really interesting just.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
For people out there that want to know what the
site is. Again, it's Bandana dot com. Is that what
they would go to?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, that's where you go and you type in what
kind of job you want, where you want it. And
this is in limited areas, so it's in the New
York City area, it's in Chicago, it's in Connecticut, New Jersey,
and then they just expanded out to California as well.
So it's not going to be available everywhere in the nation.
But that's because they're building this slowly but surely to

(03:46):
keep those listings accurate.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, just to give people a little hint on what
we go through. We when we're talking to you, you
give us some tips on what to talk about today.
And you have here Google ends Nest Support, and I'll
share with you what that means if you're still using one.
How about this, I don't even know what Nest support is.

(04:08):
Can you explain that to me?

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well, Google Nest is a is a very popular thermostat
and it's the first thing I ever installed when I
moved into my home because it manages your heating and
cooling all by itself. And so this has been around
for fifteen ten years now at this point, I've had
mine installed. So it's very popular because it was one
of the earliest ways to sort of manage your heating

(04:33):
and cooling bill by automatically. Now it's been like I said,
ten years since they came out with these devices, so
they're ending support for these thermostats that are installed on
millions of people's walls, And what does that mean. They're
not going to function automatically anymore. They're not going to
work through the app anymore. So if you want to
do any adjustments, it's going to be like an old

(04:55):
school thermostat, where yes, it'll still control your air conditioning
and heating, but it all be done manually, where you
walk up to the thermostat and you adjust the temperature.
So obviously a lot of people impacted by this. The
it's the first and second generation Nest Learning thermostats. The
support will end on October twenty fifth, twenty twenty five.

(05:15):
Google is giving affected customers one hundred and thirty dollars
if they want to upgrade to the latest thermostat that
they make. But again, this is kind of a big
shift for people that have relied on this thermostat for
many years.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
They're giving people one hundred and thirty dollars if they
want to upgrade to the latest device. How much does
that device cost? Is it the one hundred and thirty
dollars cover it or is that just part of the cost.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
No, it's the generation for thermostat. I gotta check the
price on it. I believe it's about two hundred and
eighty dollars, so one hundred and thirty dollars off of
that still be about maybe one hundred and fifty bucks
for that. I actually need to do this myself because
I have one of these thermostats. Again, this concept of
the learning thermostat is now been adapted by many other companies,

(06:01):
but this was sort of the original smart thermostat. It
was in fact invented by some of the folks from
Apple back in the day that came over to and
then Google acquired this company.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, you're so good. Natalie just looked up the price
as two seventy nine, so too idy is exactly right.
Chat GPT can do a whole lot of things, but
it can help you shop.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Oh my gosh. The functionality of this AI service just
continues to grow more useful on a daily basis. Yet
now they're rolling out shopping. So if you are looking
for a product, a recommendation reviews, now you can search
and ask chat eybt in natural language. Hey, I'm looking
for the best coffee maker, and you can get very specific.

(06:48):
And I think that is what the real benefit is
of using CHATCHYBT to help you shop now, at the
end of the day, it's still going to be best
to you know, look at people like myself that actually
try these products in real life. But I think this
is a really nice way of slicing and dicing the
information that's available online across all of these different reviews

(07:09):
and to get sort of what they are coming at
in their you know, what these reviews are really coming
to at the end of the day, like open ai
and chat GBT can really summarize what these reviews mean,
which is a lot easier than just looking on Google
and finding the top results that say, hey, here's the
ten best coffee makers. You don't really know what the

(07:29):
system was used to sort of review those. So I
think that's the big differentiator here.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
That's great and real quick. I hear these AirPods Max
are out now and I think to myself, really, I
have to upgrade air AirPods again. Are they worth it?

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I think if you travel a lot, they are worth it.
They're very expensive. Five hundred and fifty dollars is the
list price. They've been on sale for as low as
four hundred and fifty dollars. They are the over the
ear headphones, so they are not earbuds, and in my
testing I took them on two flights, I found that
I was able to wear them pretty much the entire
day because they're that comfortable. And if you're into something

(08:09):
like video gaming or video editing, they have ultralow latency
audio via if you plug them into your device, which
means what you're seeing on screen is in your ears
at the almost the exact same time, which is good
for gamers. So they're expensive something to save up for,
but they are really good. Not as lightweight as some

(08:30):
of the alternatives from Bose and Sony, but the integration
with Apple products is really slick.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Rich Demiro rich on Tech has heard Sunday nights from
eight to eleven pm on wr at rich on Tech
on Instagram is the way to reach him. Thanks a lot,
rich
