Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is really an important time to talk to Rich
DeMuro from rich on Tech, which could be heard Sunday
nights from eight to eleven pm on WLR. You can
also reach out to him yourself at rich on Tech
on Instagram. It's really an important time because we are
in the middle of Amazon Prime Days and he has
(00:21):
a tip on how you can make sure that deal
you think you're getting is really a good deal.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Rich Good morning, Hey, good morning to you, Lari. Yes,
this is a good one because we still have another
two full days of shopping on Amazon. Prime Day runs
through Friday, so the deals are looking pretty good this year.
I've seen a lot of the stuff that I've been
tracking is actually on sale. But here is my tip,
because everything seems like it's on sale, but you want
(00:48):
to do a price check to make sure that deal
is actually a deal, and there are two ways to
do this. Now, before Prime Day, it seems like they've
taken this away. But before Prime Day, Amazon was testing
a price history link on the mobile app near the
price So look for that look closely. If you see that,
it will show you a chart with up to ninety
(01:09):
days of pricing history on Amazon. And so that way
you can see if the price on an item always
drops really low, or if it's actually a great price
during Prime Day. Now, if you don't see that price
history link, there is another way to access this. Amazon
has an AI assistant called roofiss. If you're on the
mobile app, there's a little icon in the lower right
hand corner. You tap that and then you tap show
(01:32):
price history, or you can type in show price history,
and on desktop you can do the same thing. The
assistant is just underneath the pricing information. But I'm telling you, Larry,
this is a great way to see. Let's say you're
getting a kindle and it's on sale for one hundred
and fifty dollars. I can tell that that kindle regularly
sells for one ninety nine the entire ninety days, except
(01:54):
for now it's down to one fifty. That to me
is a deal.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
What a great tip. By the way, I just want
to let you know so that neither Natalie nor I
are upset that you were in Brooklyn and you didn't
stop by. No, don't worry about it, really, seriously, don't
worry about it at all. We're not that upset. But
you were in Brooklyn for Samsung's Unpacked event. Tell us
about it.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Well, you know, I'm sorry, but I did have dinner
with my family and that was really fun. We did
have a dinner in a Times Square restaurant, so that
was really fun. I next time you will be invited.
No problem one, we can add two more chairs at
the table. But this is I'm telling you. Samsung woke
up this morning and I think they're very happy with
the headlines from this event because they're all really good.
(02:37):
So they launched two new phones, the Z Fold seven
and the z Flip seven. These are their foldable phones.
I believe we've talked about them before. One opens up
like a book. The other opens up like a clamshell.
The one that opens like a book is getting really
good reviews because the problem in the past is that
the outside screen was too small to be usable for
(02:59):
daily tasks. Now they have expanded that screen, it is
much more usable as a regular phone without opening it.
And then once you open that device, you've got an
eight inch screen on the inside, which is huge, which
means you're basically carrying a phone and a tablet in
your pocket. And to kick things off, you make this
even better. They made this phone as thin as an
(03:20):
iPhone like a standard phone, so you're no longer really
sacrificing anything. The downside on that phone is that it
starts at two thousand dollars, which is a very high
price tag for most people.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I love this next story. That you have all these
marketing emails that we get constantly, there's a new way
to unsubscribe from them.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yes, just go to your Gmail. There is a new
managed Subscriptions feature, So it shows a list of all
of your active subscriptions and this is the best part,
scorted by how often they email you. And then there's
an unsubscribed link. So if you get a newsletter that
you've been getting for years and you don't really open it,
you don't really read it, or you're getting those sales emails,
(04:03):
you can just click unsubscribe and Gmail will handle the rest.
If you go into your Gmail, it is on the
left hand side. You have to click more and then
look where it says manage subscriptions and it's there. Now.
Keep in mind, Larry a lot of these features from
Google what they call it rolling out, which means not
every single person has access today, but over the next
(04:24):
couple of days, you should have access to this feature.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
I love your next story about the AI scanning cars
rental cars because was it you, Natalie? Who was it
that told me that their car was just scanned by
AI and they came up?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Oh now I didn't know. I saw a story about
it and I thought this, I'm pretty sure it was Hurts
who was the first company that was starting this, And yeah,
they came up with a lot of damage that really
probably wouldn't have been if a human was looking at it.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Absolutely, this stinks. I've rent cars a lot, I know, and.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
How nervous are you every time we you rent a car,
you see a little scratch on it, you see a
little ding, You're like, do they know about this? And
of course you can market when you exit on that
little piece of paper they have. But to be honest,
I rent from Hurts a lot, and at this point
almost the entire process is automated. They scan a QR code,
you walk out, you're done. But now you're using AI
powered cameras. You basically drive the car through this giant scanner.
(05:23):
The system takes all of these high resolution pictures when
you check it out, and then they compare it to
pictures when you check it back in, so any new
scratches that are on the car they can charge you for,
and people are saying they're getting charged for all kinds
of things, a couple hundred dollars here, a couple hundred
dollars there. Hurtz, of course, says only a small percentage
of the cars will trigger damage charges, but if you're
(05:45):
one of those people that gets it, it's tough to
argue with AI. So my tip is to always take
a video or pictures of any damage of the car
when you pick it up. That way you have some
evidence on your side when you return it. So this
right now, it is let's see, it's sixth sixt I
(06:06):
think they're the ones that the Orange company and that's
about it right now. But Hurts you know, it's they're
probably the market leader. So I think that the other companies,
if they notice that this is working to make them
more money, they're going to do it as well.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, but thank god they're not doing it right now
because I had to rent a car because I'm getting
a new car and I know there's a scratch on
the bumper up front, and I'm waiting every single day,
I think, oh my god, I am I gotta get
a phone call today? Oh my god, am I gotta
get a phone call today? And every day I don't,
I think, oh hoof. So if I can make it
through the rest of the week, I think I'm okay
(06:38):
real quick, let's do the FDA news.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, I thought this was really really cool. There's a
couple of holy grails with monitoring of you know, your body.
One of those is blood glucose. We're still waiting for
a great way to do that without you know, a needle.
But now the FDA did clear a cuffless blood pressure monitor,
which means you can have a wearable device on your
wrist that will actually measure your blood pressure in real
(07:06):
time all day long without one of those giant cuffs.
This is a huge win for people that have to
monitor their blood pressure. It's going to be sold over
the counter in twenty twenty six, so there is a
little bit of time being sold in Europe. But the
mass device is the I'm sorry, a Actia Go is
the device.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
