Speaker 1 (00:00):
So we did a story earlier about the Food Republic
writing an article about Louis and Ernie's pizza in the Bronx,
and they say it was officially named the best hole
in the Wall restaurant in New York. And they claim
their sausage pie is one to die for, that it
is legendary. Now that's just them, they're not the expert.
(00:22):
We're going to bring in the expert right now to
find out how he feels about Louie, about Louis and
Ernie Ernie's Pizza in the Bronx. You just heard him
there a second ago. That's Professor Scott Wiener. Scott's Pizza
Tours is his business. If you want to take a
tour with Scott, go to Scott's Pizza Tours dot com. So, Scott,
(00:45):
thanks for joining us on such late notice. Really appreciated.
I heard you're driving up to Connecticut for pizza.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
You are correct. I'm in the car on the way
to New Even right now.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Now. We've heard about the pizza in Haven, we've heard
the big debate whether Connecticut has better pizza than New
York City. Are you I'm sure you've been up there before.
What's the answer to that.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Debate, You know, it's it's not that it's better pizza,
it's just different. Like you can't go and get a
slice in even but you can in New York. So
if you're somebody who eats pizza in a fast paced lifestyle,
New Have is maybe not going to scratch that itch,
but super thing Krispy Chard if you're into that, definitely.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
That was a bit of a cop out, Scott.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
We need a king of cop outs.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Anyway, Let's talk about Louis and Ernie's pizza in the Bronx.
Is it that good?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Oh my god, it's so good. You have the regular
pie is great, but the sausage pie is even better.
And they do a fried col zone that if you
leave without the fried calzone you're you're my enemy.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
So if you're a pizza lover, it's worth the.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Trip, Absolutely worth the trip. It's in like the ground
floor of an old house and family runs. This is
the second pair of owners since since I think it
was forty seven they opened.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Now, let's just say you had a family out there
that would like to have an incredible pizza and a
legendary pizza once every Friday for the next month. What
are the four places you'd send them to? And would
Louis and Ernie's make that list?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
You're talking about just the Bronx.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
No, no, no, no, they can go up to New
Haven if they have to, like you.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Okay, okay, here's what we're gonna do. So yeah, Louen
Ernie's would make that list. Get the sausage pie, get
a root beer, sit in the backyard while the sun
is still out. Enjoy yourself. Number two Zoo Parties in
New Haven. Get the clam pie and get yourself a
Seltzer because that's the blend. And if you really want
to step up, z's a little the lemon rind right
(02:54):
out of the pie and that's gonna pop it if
you really want to pop it up. Black pepper on
that thing, trust me. Third one that I'm gonna tell
you gotta do is lately, I've been so into it
and it's a rare pie to Tono's on Coney Island.
They're only open on the weekends. Take out only get
the white pie. I don't know how many I've listed,
but that was three.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
I'm waiting for the fourth. I think the fourth is
or did you start that was number one.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
That was number one. That was number one. We're gonna
go with the next one. This just came on the
top of my head. Are Touros Houston and Thompson Street.
You're gonna get a garlic and sausage pie. You're gonna
get a bottle of Primativo and that's a full night
right there. And then for number five, we got to
(03:40):
go to Staten Island and I want to send you
to Joe and Pats and there you're gonna get two pies.
You're gonna get the Classic, but then you're also gonna
get their square. You got to get the Classic. You
don't have to put a bunch of stuff on it,
just straight up the Classic and the Square also with
nothing on it.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
We got to make that list available. That's amazing. You know.
We'll put your list up on the website right after
the show, so everybody will be able to.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Make sure you say, end the meal at John Pat's
with a Manhattan Special, A Manhattan Special.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Is there an order? You hear so mediculous with this stuff?
Is there an order? People should visit these places?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Choose your own adventure with the order. If you're filling
up a month and every Friday, you're going to one.
I don't know, do what you want to do. I'll
meet you there, though, what you.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
What are you trying in Connecticut today?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I don't know. We're just going to kind of bounce
around a little bit. I mean, I don't go up
there with outknazoo parties. I want to try a place
called Fuoco that I've ever been to. And then there's
a place called aziz Ubeats, which he's a New Even
guy who went to la and opened a place, and
now he went back to New Haven to open a
place there. So I might try to check that out.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Oh my gosh, I have the most ridiculous question for you.
Is there ever a moment in the day where you say, hmm,
I'd rather have something else than pizza.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Well, I mean, I'm eating a bagel right now, but
it's kind of a pizza. You really want to twist yourself.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
There is an argument out there that no matter what
the pizza is, whether it's cold, whether it's day old,
it's still pretty good. Have you had a bad pizza?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Of course I have come on to say you've never
had a bad pizzas to say you haven't lived. I've
had the bad ones? Trust me?
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Can you tell us where the bad ones are?
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I can't tell you what the bad ones are. I
don't want to do that to them. What if it
was just a.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Bad day, that's true.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
You know it when you see it. And if there's
a pizza that you're chewing and you don't want to
swallow this slight, you know. The method here is union
is not good, stop eating it.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
I don't know. I've eaten some pretty bad pizzas and
some day old pizza and it was still pretty good.
So everybody, well, I usually think the.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Worse it is fresh, the better it is the next day.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
I just want to make sure everybody knows seven wr
dot com. We will have his Life us up right
after the show. Thanks a lot, Scott Scott Waiter from
Scott's Pizza Tours. You can check them out at scott'spizzatours
dot com or sign up for one of those tours.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
We're actually doing a tour in New Haven on October eighteenth,
so check that out on the website.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Oh that'll be fun. Thanks a lot, Scott,
