Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm not a huge tennis fan, but when I'm even interested,
you know, something special happened.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
And it was a French open for the history books.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
And that's what Warner Wolf, legendary sportscaster, is leading off
with today.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey Warner, all right.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Larry, I'll tell you what it was the best match
I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
And as long as twenty three year old Janick Center
and twenty two year old Carlos Alcaraz are around, I'm
afraid the thirty eight year old Novak Djokovic has won
his last major and he's gonna retire, I would think,
after holding the all time men's record of twenty four majors. Also,

(00:42):
unless there's a major injury or there is someone there's
a child prodigy out there, Alcoraz and Center are gonna
win most of the majors for the next ten years.
I mean, those guys, they're in a planet by themselves.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
For the sport, right, that'll be great for the sport.
That kind of rivalry, right.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yes, right, like Ali Fraser not as long of course
or something like that. You always need two guys, yep,
that's the point of sports. The good news is for
the Pittsburgh Steelers. You know, Aaron Rodgers had a pretty
good season last year, three or for over four thousand yards,
twenty eight touchdowns, just eleven interceptions, which was better than

(01:27):
all of last year's Steelers quarterbacks combined, and better than
the three other guys they currently have. But the bad
news is Rogers will be forty two during the season.
In the one hundred year history of the NFL, only
one quarterback has started a game at age forty two

(01:49):
or older and had a quality year one, and that,
of course, was Tom Brady. You know it was a
Hall of Fame Boxing Tree. Ain't a ray Rcell. He
once told me. He said Warner Father time plays no favorites,
and that's Aaron Rodgers. Oh here, how many points do

(02:10):
you think Rogers is worth? Before the Steelers signed in Pittsburgh,
was two and a half point favorite over the Jets
and the opener. They're now three point favorites. He's worth
a half a point The Bull of the week, man,
how times have changed baseball? This week, Commissioner Rob Manfred

(02:34):
ended the one year, one year sentence of four major
leaguers who were suspended a year ago for betting on baseball.
The same crime that costs Pete Rose a lifetime ban
thirty six years ago. Hey, what's wrong with this picture?

(02:56):
Last Monday, the Mets Edwin Diaz blew another says, giving
up the time run in the ninth inning against the Dodgers.
But because the Mets scored two in the top of
the tenth with Diaz long gone and won the game,
Diaz is the winning pitcher. So because he blew the game,

(03:17):
he winds up as the winning pitcher. Something's wrong that
change the rule? Mets one Soto. Remember he complained he
couldn't hit as well because Aaron Judge wasn't batting behind him. Well,
Soto is hitting only two forty four. Pete Alonso, now

(03:38):
batting behind Soto, is hitting three to zero one seventeen homers,
and he's first in rbies in the National League, which
is more RBIs than Judge has. What a phony. Let
me get this out of the way. The worst headline
of the week Nicholas Christoff of the New York Times,

(04:01):
who wrote, will we recover from Trump? Recover from Trump? Nicholas,
how about will we recover from Biden or whoever was
running the country and opened the borders and let millions
of illegal immigrants coming out. I tell you what, it
wasn't Trump all right, It's time now for the three

(04:23):
stooges hit it all right. Stage Number one buyer, beware
Blue Jays Vladimir Guerrero Junior, who asked the Blue Jays
for six hundred million dollars but had to settle for
five hundred million. Guerrero has only eight home runs in
the Jays' first sixty five games. At that rate, he's

(04:47):
going to have only nineteen homers. Not much of a
return for a five hundred million dollar man. Stuge Number
two the New York Next Organization, who will now pay
ex coach Tom Thibodeau the next three years seven million
a year. Not the coach the Knicks fired after two

(05:08):
back to back fifty win seasons and their best finish
in twenty five years. And you know what, Larry, if
the Knicks don't blow that game one lead, remember the
fourteen point lead in the last fifty one, they might
be playing Oklahoma City right now for the NBA Championship.

(05:28):
The Knixt organization used that old Hackney excuse, we want
to go in a different direction. What direction is that down?
And finally, stude number three, the Boulder, Colorado police chief
who said the burning of twelve American Jews by a

(05:50):
recognized Hama's follower was too early to call it an
anti Semitic terrorist attack. Too early, hey, chief? What else
did you need to know? That was like Obama when
he called the Fort Hood massacre of thirteen US soldiers
a case of workplace violence. You remember that, right, oh man?

Speaker 2 (06:14):
And I love the fact that the Trump administration.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
By the way, I love the fact that the Trump
administration immediately called it anti senitism.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
That was, yes, yeah, of course? What else? All right?
Maybe you remember this, Larry thirty six years ago, you
being a Philadelphia man. June eighth, nineteen eighty nine. Former
nineteen seventy one Pirate World Series hero Jim Rooker was
then a radio TV analyst for the Pittsburgh Pirate station KDKA,

(06:46):
and during a broadcast, he said he'd walked the three
hundred miles from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia if the Pirates blew
a ten to nothing first inning league against the Phillies.
Irates did blow the lead and lolls fifteen to eleven,
and Rooker, at age forty six, had to walk the

(07:07):
three hundred Miles after the season. Do you remember that.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
No, I don't at all.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
But that's a great story, and God bless him for
following through. I think a lot of people would say
I was just kidding. So that's pretty impressive.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
And they raised about one hundred thousand dollars in charity
from donations from the fans.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
That's tremendous.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Good calls.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
All right, thanks a lot, Warner, Warner Wolf legendary sportscaster.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Great stuff. Warner, thanks again, talk to you next week.
