Speaker 1 (00:08):
Ninety three point one WPOC Bethanisbury, all the things you
need to know to get you day Star day.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Can you guys hear the fire alarm? The fire alarms
going off in this building. It's gone off three times
and I haven't gone anywhere.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Hopefully that's okay, choice let me know if.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
You can hear it.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Seven to seven, nine sixty to begin your message with higher.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hey, Okay, Hurricane Aaron hits the coast, the East coast,
and I know that we have a lot of people
on the Eastern Shore listening, so I would love to
hear from you what it's been like. And you know
what's I guess I saw some video. It didn't look
too bad, but just like high water in some spots.

(00:51):
So anyway, if you're listening right now on the Eastern
Shore and you've been, you know, affected, let me know
seven seven nine six to two, begin your message with
higher hay, all right. Altimore County Schools announced some policy
changes for the upcoming school year, and we're going to
weigh in on this, okay, So here are a couple
of the big ones. Parents are going to be getting
attendance and grading updates weekly every Friday, which I love

(01:16):
cell phones, but I think that's gonna be a lot
of work for the teachers. Cell phones are to be
on or put or shut off and put away all day.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
It's gonna be hard to enforce, but I like it.
And here's the other big one. Twenty three of the
elementary schools are bringing back cursive writing. So I want
you to go ahead and let me know what you
think of those seven seven nine six two.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Begin your message with higher hay.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
And also parents and just parents too, weigh in on
if you could make one change for your kids' school,
what would you do. I would just love to hear
the responses. Seven seven nine six two. Begin your message
with higher hay. We'll hit that in a couple of minutes.
The Menendez brothers have hearings for parole today and tomorrow,

(02:05):
so we'll know more about that soon. Or you'll park
at Camden Yards, ranked number three in the country for
the best stadium food.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Love that.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Baltimore's own Gervanta Tank Davis is going to take on
Jake Paul in a highly anticipated exhibition bout November fourteenth
in Atlanta. The cast of Dawson's Creek is going to
reunite for a cancer benefit. They have not been together
all in the same place since two thousand and three.
I'm excited about that. Ed Hale, businessman and owner of

(02:38):
Baltimore Blast, decided he is no longer a Democrat. He
is a Republican and he would like to run against
Wes Moore in the governor race. So all of that
and more happening this morning.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Let me know what you think. Like I said, seven
to seven, nine.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Six two begin you're messed with higher hey, or you
can call eight hundred three one thirty six ninety three,
but right now, six ninety three is the number.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
You're gonna be caller number nine.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
And if that is you, you're going to win tickets
to Saturday in the country and you're also going to
be able to.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Go see Shaboozi backstage. Mean greats. That's right, that's an
incredible prize for caller number nine.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Good luck ninety three point one WPOC traffic ninety.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Seven northbound in southbound at Roxbury Road.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Is cool, WPOC, Good morning.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Who's this?

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Zach? Your caller number nine?

Speaker 5 (03:55):
Are you serious?

Speaker 3 (03:56):
I'm dead serious? Oh my goodness, incredible.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeay, Zach, You're gonna go see Saturday in the country,
not this coming weekend, but the next one, and you're
gonna meet Shaboozi.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
This is so crazy. I literally was joking with my
wife that I'm gonna sit here in the car before
she goes into Fanara and win these tickets.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
And here I am. You've spoken into existence. That's some manifesting, Zach.
I love that for you.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
Oh my heart's racing.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
This is great.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Okay, Michael Jay's music sitting minute in sixty seconds.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
You gon't know like you own music.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Row all right. Morgan Wallen, arguably the most popular country
artist in the world, will not be submitting himself or
any of the songs from his chart topping latest album
I'm the Problem for.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
The Grammy Awards.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
His team confirmed that the massive thirty seven track album
that has been in the top of the Billboard two
hundred for some eleven weeks now is not participating in
the Grammy Awards. The news has been reported by multiple sources,
and now it's been confirmed.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
This is really interesting.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Morgan says that he's not going to stop some of
the other songwriters on the album from submitting their work
from the album. It's already spawned four number ones on
the Billboard or Country Airplay chart and three chart toppers
on the Hot Country chart.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
This is incredible.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I feel like this would be his chance to win Grammys,
but he said.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
No, thank you. It's wild. What do you think of this?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I would imagine some of the other songwriters will submit,
but I think it's interesting that he's basically like, no,
thank you, Grammys.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
I don't need you, and he might, you know what,
Arguably he's probably right.

Speaker 6 (05:43):
Ninety three point one, ninety three point one WPOC, Good morning,
Happy Thursday.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Back to school week for a lot of college kids, teachers,
lots of professional development happening, so thank you for having
us on as you get ready to go back to
the new school year. There were some changes that were
announced for BCPs the other day and it's making headlines.
They're going to do twenty three different schools. Elementary are

(06:22):
going to have a cursive program, bring cursive back. Cell
phones are to be shut off and put away, which
I think I think is amazing. I think it's going
to be hard to enforce, but I give you two
thumbs up for trying. You know, it's just like attached
to people's hands now, kids and teachers right, and then

(06:44):
parents are going to get notifications every Friday for attendance
and grades, which I think, I think that could help
my personal situation, Like I think that would help my son.
But I think also that's a lot of work for
the teachers. So I said, if you could make any change,
whether it's one of these changes or other changes, I

(07:06):
want to hear from parents.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
What would you do?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Someone literally my first text are on this topic, literally
said hey, I wouldn't change anything.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I I challenge that I find that urt to believe.
Someone said cleanliness. Are the schools not clean enough? Somebody said, hey, Bethany,
this is wonderful news that they're bringing back cursive. I
had to learn it and it should have never went away.
That's from Amanda. Someone said reintroducing cursive is one reason

(07:34):
that's positive.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
To ensure the kids are exposed to.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
The minimal amount of cursive in order to read authentic
historical documents. Okay, boy, I don't know if any of
the generations are actually reading those historical documents. Someone said, hey,
I like, bring you back a cursive writing idea and
the progress reports and yeah, the phones being put away
is a good idea too. Okay, good, So these seem

(08:00):
like good ideas across the board. Someone said, bring back
old math. The new math is ridiculous. I love the
BCPs changes. They need to be statewide. This is from
someone who works in one of those elementary schools. I'm
a BCPs administrator. My school's one of the twenty three
pilot schools for the cursive program, and we are so excited.
It's a skill our kids need to learn. Okay, I

(08:23):
like that cell phones are a time drain on teachers,
but no one cares about the teachers.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
The parents are selfish. Cursive is the best. Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
That person doesn't have any punctuating in their test. Oh God,
weigh in, guys, what do you think? Seven seven ninety
six y two? Begin your message with higher hate or
better yet, call me because it's just me here reading
the screen. You know, I would love to chitchat with you.
Someone said accountability. These kids face a rude awakening when
they get into the workforce. It's just one of the

(08:53):
main reasons we pulled our kids from public school. You're shaboozie,
it's good news. Ninety three point one POC.

Speaker 7 (09:02):
Now what the hell of the year?

Speaker 4 (09:04):
It's been.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
Get found hing that I just came drown my sons.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
But then.

Speaker 7 (09:17):
Not any it's a little good news, not any need,
isn't it something made? And middle not any means middle.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
It's shaboozy good news. Ninety three point one w POC.
It's Bethany Michael j on vacation.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
We're talking about changes that are being made for the
upcoming school year in a BCPs and uh, you know,
if you're from another school district and you know about
some changes, let me know, someone said, bring back anything
but common core, And then I might a joke about
I'm not sure anyone's reading the historical documents, because you know,

(09:59):
if someone's said, Bethany, US history majors are reading those documents, Okay, good,
I'm glad someone is paying attention to that. Someone said,
I think those ideas are great, but we need financial
literacy added to the curriculum, and that's true. Teresa called
me and she said, I think that they need to
start teaching financial literacy right away, and I have to agree.

(10:21):
I really think that that could help put everybody on
more of a level playing field earlier, and then maybe
they could leave school with some savings you know, keep
them coming. I love hearing what you guys are thinking
as far as how the education system should change here,
Sam Hunts.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
In the meantime, there's so much going on in this
town to keep me busy.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
I've been running around up and down all these avenues
doing everything. Think and bat you as long as I
stay on my fine city side, you don't really crossed
my mind?

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Why is that out here?

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Only?

Speaker 4 (11:02):
I wish I was do it by your house?

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Ninety three point one w POC, Sam Hunt. It's Bethany
Michael j on vacation talking about some changes you might
like to see in your kids school.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Good morning, w POC. How about how economics kids don't
have all they don't have to do anything.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
To get them through their life.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Mm hmm, like little life skills class, Yeah, they can't.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
So they can't him because it's I mean, that wouldn't
maybe not be a bad idea. I realized that there's
only so many resources to go around. And then and
then you bring up the argument like well, what is
the parents responsibility? Should we be teaching those life skills?
Like you know, someone said, Hi, I live in Pennsylvania.
It's a state requirement for eleventh graders to take personal finance.

(12:00):
They learn about taxes, credit budgeting, et cetera.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
That's good, that's a good idea.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Okay, all right, Devil's advocate here, take yourself back to
when you were in school. If someone taught you financial literacy,
would you pay attention, like genuinely be honest with yourself?

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Would you be like, oh, yes, let's let me write.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Down all of these facts about income tax and the GDP.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
And all this. Like, I don't think anybody would really pay.
I don't know, MIC could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Someone says, my daughter goes to Chesapeake Bay Middle School
in Pasadena and they have a no cell phone policy
and have had for the last two years. I think
that's really great. I boy, but I just feel like,
is that going to be a constant battle? I know
in my own house, like when we try to put
our cell phones down, everyone grumbles about it. But I
guess if it's just the policy period and then there

(12:49):
are like consequences if you break it, then maybe that
would be a little bit easier.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Anyway. I love hearing what you guys have to say.
Seven to seven nine six two.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Begin your message with higher hay or give me a
call and we can chat about it. Ninety three point
one WPOC Jelly Roll that's his latest and coming up
at a thirty year chance.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
To jump in the hot seat to win tickets to
the fair.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Ninety three point one WPOC Beth and Eastbury. All the
things you need to know to get you day started.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
So the beaches are all shut down on the Eastern
Shore and actually up and down the Eastern Seaboard due
to Hurricane Erin. I've seen some videos of the storm surges.
It looks bad, but it doesn't look as bad as
it could be, so I guess that's good. Once Aaron
has cleared the US, the National Hurricane Center says that
there's a seventy percent chance another system, currently a couple

(13:45):
hundred miles east of Leeward Islands, will develop into the
next season storm. So the Menandaz brothers are up for parole.
Their hearings are today for Eric and tomorrow for Lyle.
I guess they have the support of the community and
the correctional offs, so we'll see what happens there. Oriel
Park at Camden Yards came in number three in a

(14:07):
YELP survey for the best stadium food in the country.
So you know, the oriols aren't like exactly winning, but
it seems like food services are winning. Jake Paul is
going to face undefeated WBA lightweight champion Baltimore's own Jervanta
Tank Davis in a highly anticipated bout in November. Word

(14:29):
that Ed Hale, businessman and owner of Baltimore Blast, has
announced his candidacy for Maryland governor. He switched parties, registered Democrat,
now he's a Republican.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
He's gonna run against Wes Moore.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Did you see this Louis Kahn thing Minnesota Vikings male
cheerleader apparently getting all kinds of crap online and now
his mom is beking out and saying like kind of
knock it off, Like it makes me so sick that
people are so small minded and mean because this guy
has really gotten hate online just for being a male cheerleader.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
I'm like, this isn't new.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
College male cheerleaders like crazy, just maybe not new to
the NFL. And lastly, if you're looking for a roommate,
Pope Leo is in inviting some other holy men to
live with him in the palace. He's going to move
in to the Palace complex later this year. Pope Francis

(15:30):
didn't live in the Vatican Palace, but Pope Leo is
going to, except for he wants to share the space
with three or four other holy men. So I don't know,
maybe you want to. I don't know if there's like
a Craigslist ad that you can reply to.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
I'm not sure how you can get in on that,
but if you're a holy man, feel.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Free to apply. Ninety three point one.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Ninety three point one WPOC. It's Morgan Wallen, thought you
should know and Bethany. Michael j is on vacation. Someone
I said, Hi, I've been on VAK and I just
got back. Where is Michael J. Well, never fear he'll
be back on Monday. I think specifically he's in Denver,
and he did mention something about getting a tattoo.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
I'm ninety three point one WPO Michael Jay's Music City
Minute and sixty seconds.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
You don't know, like you own music row.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
All right, So I'm taking over his duties for Michael
Jay's Music City Minute while he's gone.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Which turns out to be more than a challenge than I.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Thought it was.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
I was reading an article about post Malone being a
dad today, I thought i'd share it with you.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
He's thirty.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
He and his ex fiance, Jamie Park have a three
year old together, and he keeps her completely out of
the spotlight. But he has done several interviews where he
talks about being a dad and it's.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Really really sweet.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
He says that they just redid their house and they
have a really long hallway and she likes to ride
her little horse pony bicycle thing up and down the
hallway and she just s giggles the whole time, and
he loves that. Posty says that his daughter is also
obsessed with Paw Patrol, as most three year olds are,
and also loves George Strait. She's interested in learning how

(17:16):
to play the steel guitar, which he says he's thrilled about.
And as far as fatherhood goes, he said he doesn't
know what he's doing, but he said he doesn't think
anybody really does. True, but he says he and his
daughter are figuring and out together.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
I think that's just really sweet, he said.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
At the end of the day, isn't it all just
about family anyway? Post he always has had a really
big heart.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
I like that guy ninety three point one w POC.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
Making ninety three point one w POC. Good morning, Happy Thursday.
It's Bethany hanging out with you. Michael j on vacation.
He'll be back next week, and we are giving away
some tickets right now, a pair of tickets to go
see Maddox backs and bats in at the Maryland State

(18:09):
Fair September sixth, and your chance to win meet and
greet passes to meet Badock Maddox. Okay, every time I
say this poor man's name, my tongue is just in,
not Maddix bats In.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
So anyway, if you want to win tickets to go
see him at the Fair September sixth, you're gonna want
to climb into our hot seat. It's a little spicy today,
so I hope you can handle it. Eight hundred three
two one thirty six and ninety three. Ah yeah, thirty
three two one thirty six ninety three gollar number nine.

(18:45):
Good luck, good luck to you and good luck to
me as I continue to try to talk.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
So that's where it ends.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Stay d is on the phone. She wants to be
in our hot seat. She thinks she can handle it.
We'll see Coming up next, Jason L. Dean with Kelly
Clarkson Don't You Want to Stay?

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Right now? On ninety three point one WPOC.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
I really hate to let this ald go.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Such Kelly Clarkson Jason EL Dean, Don't You Want to Stay?
I heard Kelly Clarkson is back to work on the
Voice and her show will be premiering in September. She
took some time off to be with her kids because
her ex husband Brandon passed away recently from melanoma. So
I'm happy to hear she's feeling up to getting back

(19:43):
to work.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
You know what that music means.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Stacy is on the line.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
She thinks she can take on the hot seat, Stacy.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Or on your way to work?

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yes, okay, what do you do?

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I'm the manager at Possible.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
Oh okay, very good. Here we go.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Three questions. You have three seconds to answer each. If
you fail to do so, I will buzz you and
hang on. I got that number one. Earlier today, we
were talking about changes that should be made to the
school system. What class do you wish that you paid
way more attention to when you were in school? Yeah,

(20:24):
definitely in history.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Just staying up with Turnavop.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Yes, it's so tough, right. I feel like geography is
a big one for me too. I'm like, yeah, I'm
always having to like pull up a map and be
like where is that again? Fight?

Speaker 3 (20:39):
But I feel like back in the day, if you
would have told me to pay more attention, I would
be like, okay, exactly all right.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Question number two, thirty percent of Americans say that they
have never counted calories.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Have you ever counted your calories?

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Maybe so like a day, but otherwise know okay.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
I think it's so funny that a third of people
have never coun to calories, and yet we have to
have them on every menu.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
You know.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Interesting Question number three there's a new phone software that
uses AI to ensure that no nude pictures are sent or.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Received on the phone.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
If you had that software on your phone, how hard
would it have to work?

Speaker 3 (21:28):
That?

Speaker 4 (21:28):
Semi semi? I love it's sazy. You won.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
You are super honest, great job. I love it. It
would have to work semi hard. Thank you for being honest.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Stacy's going to the State Fair to see Maddi's back. Then,
can this poor kid okay? Anyway, we got another pair
of tickets for you tomorrow. Plus one hundred dollars in
hot crabs in the hot seat tomorrow. It's Chris Lane
right now, Big big plans, ninety three point one w POC.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Just sleep. I guess some big big bland.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
She don't know, she don't know.

Speaker 5 (22:14):
I guess some big big bland she don't know, she
don't know.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
Ninety three point one w POC.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Good morning. It's Bethany.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
Michael j is on vacation and he'll be back on Monday.
So yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
The study that I was reading a little while ago
that I referenced about thirty percent of Americans never counting
their calories.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
I think that's so interesting.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
A survey of almost three thousand adults say, do you
ever seek out information about how many calories are in
your food or drink? And thirty percent of people said sometimes,
but twenty one percent of people said rarely, or fifteen
percent said never. And I think that's so interesting because
they're like, we need to put this on every every menu,

(23:02):
every everything, and people are like completely ignoring the numbers.
And I think that's really interesting. Uh, maybe good. What
do you think of that? Seven seven ninety six two?
Begin your message with hi or hey? Does it seem
to matter at all.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
