Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
This is Michael Monks Reports. I'm Michael Monks from KFI
News and we are still with you on this Saturday
night because the Dodgers and Blue Jays game, which happens
to be Game seven of the World Series, is still going.
It is the top of the eleventh. The Dodgers show
(00:29):
hey Otani is at the plate. It is the top
of the eleventh. So we are now in extra innings
again in this series, as show hey Otani grounds out
for the second out in the top of the eleventh.
As this dramatic world series nears its conclusion, but when
(00:49):
will it come? So we're staying with you as a
news program because this is the big news story. If
you want the game and you want postgame coverage, check
out our friends on a five seventy LA Sports, our
sister station. What we're watching is, yes, of course, the
(01:13):
game in general, but what might happen after the game,
especially if the Dodgers win. Last year, when the Dodgers
won the series, it got pretty hairy. So the LAPD
has decided to preemptively strike and close some streets downtown
(01:36):
and let's pull up the game audio if we can,
because something just happened all of a.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Sudden and for Will Smith had the double earlier in
the ballgame, and Daniels Jewelers indeed the Brown sponsor.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
The Trip around the Diamond and your family Jeweler. That's
a Nike home run. Daniels jewel Will Smith for Dodgers
now lead five to four in the top of the
eleventh with two outs. This is the first time the
Dodgers have led this game. They were down three to
(02:10):
nothing at the end of the third. They've calwled their
way back and now they've taken the lead in Toronto.
So this is why we're still on the air, because
we know how La can be when the Dodgers win
the World Series. We learned that last year. So there
are street closures already happening in Los Angeles. The LAPD
(02:32):
has closed Pico Boulevard between La Live Way and Grand Avenue.
They've closed Flower Street between Ninth Street and Venice Boulevard.
They've closed Hope Street between Ninth and Venice. They've closed
Olympic between La Live Way and Grand. They say La
Metro will detour all northbound buses from Figueroa Street to
Hope between Pico and Olympics. So we're talking about a
pretty small area of downtown, but this is the area
(02:54):
that was hit pretty hard last year. They've also issued
a citywide tactical alert that means every officer on duty
should expect to remain on duty in case it all
goes to hell. Now we are seeing from our colleagues
at NBC four a report that the Dodgers fans at
(03:22):
the Douglas in Echo Park. This is reporter Alex Roger's
footage on Instagram at NBC four. The police have declared
an unlawful assembly there, shut the bar down. I've never
(03:43):
been there. It looks nice. I don't know what was
going on, but there is basically a skirmish line of
LAPD officers at the Douglas in Echo Park, and Alex
Rosier at NBC four says, the fire department shut the
bar down. Maybe it's a capacity issue, And now LAPD
(04:04):
has declared unlawful assembly demanding fans leave. Wow. Can you
imagine going to the Douglas today to watch this game
and have it shut down in the bottom of the
ninth inning of Game seven of the World Series. Yeah,
(04:25):
things could get Harry in Los Angeles tonight, I would
be so upset. I don't have any further details on
that right now, but if the LA Fire Department shut
the bar down, it had to be a capacity issue.
So people are out already, and there's already been an
(04:47):
unlawful assembly declared in one little area and this game
is still playing. That's why the LAPD is saying they're
super prepared this year. Have units staged all over the city,
they say, ready to respond. The city wide tactical alert
(05:07):
is in effect. Streets downtown are closed, especially around LA Live.
They've said to expect some freeway entrances and exits to
be closed, particularly the one to one, the one ten,
and the ten in the downtown area. They're not putting
up with it this year, they say. The Dodgers are
(05:30):
leading five to four. As the top of the eleventh concludes,
we are now in the middle of the eleventh awaiting
the Blue Jays response. Will the Blue Jays have an answer?
This has been an incredible series, but now it is
the Blue Jays turn to sweat trailing for the first
(05:52):
time this game. Bottom of the eleventh. Will there be
late game heroics the type of moments little boys dream
of their whole lives, backyard whiffle ball, bottom of the
last inning. You're up to bat in Game seven of
(06:14):
the World Series. Will there be joy in Toronto? Or
will there be chaotic celebrations in the City of Angels tonight?
That is what we are watching for this evening, and
that is why we are still with you. If the
(06:35):
Dodgers hold on and win this series. With Yamamoto on
the mound, we'll follow whatever goes down tonight. We'll stay
with you all night if we have to, so keep
it right here on KFI. It's the Blue Jays come
up to bat in the bottom of the eleventh. We
(06:56):
will find things to talk about, that's for certain. And
if you want to join us, you can open up
the iHeartRadio app and click on the talkback button. Leave
us a message.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Ay Michael, I've been listening to you for the whole time.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Yeah, I'm not a huge Dodger fan. I was a
long time ago, but they traded away Mike Piazza and
nah all over. But maybe if they riot, they can
maybe you know, like match engineer rings, they can burn down.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Well, just quick reminder, you got a few seconds only
up to like twenty five thirty seconds on that message.
We want to miss the last bit of your message there, Mark,
but appreciate you listening. Thanks for taking the time to
call in. We are grateful for you being there. Let's
hear now from Bridget.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Hello the Michael Mark, the number one seven PM radio station.
You are a great reporter, You're a great anchor, and
tonight I find out.
Speaker 6 (07:58):
That you are a great playback play sports reporter. Thank
you do it all great jab Let's go down.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Well, let's go Dodgers. Thank you Bridget for listening. I
know you also listen to Conway because he's the hype
man for me saying the number one show on Saturday night.
So we are grateful for you listening at any time
on kf I. Okay, the Jays have reached second base
in the bottom of the eleventh, no outs, so the
tying run is on second base, the winning run is
(08:28):
at the plate. This is what I was talking about.
This is the moment little boys dream about in the
backyard with their whiffleball bat to win the World Series
in the last game. Let's see if it works out
for Toronto. Joy in Toronto, chaotic celebrations in LA. What
will it be? The game is on A five seventy
(08:51):
LA Sports.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
This is Michael Monks reports on Michael Monks from KFI
News Extended coverage tonight. The Dodgers have won the World Series.
Los Angeles has gone to Toronto and defeated the Blue
Jays five to four and eleven innings. What a thrilling series,
What a thrilling finish. The Dodgers have won it all
(09:22):
and now the celebration in Los Angeles, and that is
why we are still on the air and we'll be
with you until at least ten. We'll see if things
stay under control. Last year when the Dodgers won, it
was a mess. This year, the police have been very
very aggressive in preparing. They've shut down streets already. They
(09:47):
say there could be more. Buses are being detorted, freeway
rams could be shut down. So we're gonna stay on
the air to see what the situation looks like as
fans potentially pour into the streets. But the Dodgers have
won this game, they have won this World Series. We'll
(10:09):
get some analysis on the game that's far more knowledgeable
than mine. Perhaps a little bit later in this hour.
If you're listening to us and you want to hear
postgame analysis from Toronto, you have my permission to flip
it over to our sister station A five seventy LA Sports.
(10:30):
They've got it all covered for you. It just happened
during our break and I was listening to them. Look,
the Blue Jays had a runner on second with just
one out, and then there was a bunt. So now
you have runners at the corners with one out and
(10:52):
the Jay's grounded into a double play to end this
game and give the Dodgers the series. Yamamoto on the
mound in the eleventh inning. What a ride. What an
absolute thrill. Game seven of the World Series going into
(11:14):
the eleventh inning. So my understanding now is that in
the city of Los Angeles there are fireworks being shot off.
There was something weird in Echo Park. Our colleague Alex
(11:34):
Rosier over at NBC four reported that the Douglas Bar,
which was full of Dodger fans, was shut down by
the LA Fire Department in the bottom of the ninth
with the game tide, and then obviously the fans had leave.
(11:59):
It was likely a capacity issue. I don't have any
further details personally, but if the fire department is shutting
you down, that's probably what it was. And now the
police showed up and declared an unlawful assembly and a
skirmish line had formed. So that says to me that
the police are serious. That they are serious. That's why
(12:21):
they put out the bulletins that they did. Before we
even reached game six, we saw them say don't mess
around this year. We're not here to play with you.
Please behave They said they would be highly visible throughout downtown. Specifically,
(12:46):
they said they will be pre staging their units ready
to respond to any hotspots. They say there could be
freeway closures on the one ten, the ten, the one
oh one. The LAPD is working with Metro and the
Emergency Operations Center to coordinate their efforts. We've already seen
street closures before this game ended, when it was not
(13:10):
clear that the Dodgers would even come back, much less
win this game, they were shutting down streets downtown. So
here's what I ask of you. If you're listening, what
do you hear? What do you see across the city
of Los Angeles? Anything getting Harry, anything getting interesting. Open
up the iHeartRadio app, click on the talkback button, and
(13:35):
we will play your comments this hour. But the Dodgers
have gone into Toronto defeated the Blue Jays and eleven
innings in Game seven to claim the World Series title.
Share with us how you're feeling about that too. Open
(13:56):
up that iHeartRadio app, click on the talkback button, and
we will finish this hour together. We're going to go
to eleven at least, excuse me to ten. We me
get my hours right. I'm excited now. If things get hairy,
we'll go a little longer and let you know what's
happening across Los Angeles right now. Maybe too early. I
(14:20):
don't recall exactly what time it hit the fan downtown
last year, I was down there watching this. It was
a mess. The street takeovers were just It makes you
wonder how how it's allowed, And it was allowed last year.
There's no doubt about it. To shut down major intersections
(14:43):
with crowds of people, to loot stores, to do car
donuts in the middle of major intersections, that's just allowed.
To burn a metro bus to a crisp, that's just allowed.
So I don't know if the police Department was embarrassed,
but they say they are going to be on this year,
and if that situation at that bar and Echo Park
(15:03):
is in any indication, then they're on it. Because I
can't imagine sitting in my favorite sports bar, watching my
favorite team in the World Series tied in the bottom
of the ninth and having that bar shut down because
of capacity, and then you're pouring outside and the police
(15:27):
show up and say it's an unlawful assembly to leave.
That's tough. I just don't know how I would feel
if I had been sitting in there at that moment.
Imagine throwing back a beer at the Douglas and Echo
Park tonight and having the police show up and telling
(15:48):
you you have to leave. I don't know the Douglas
it looks kind of cute, plain and nice. The slogan
is good beer, cheap, friends that go. That's the first
little thing we heard about. And again that was from
our colleague Alex Rogier over at NBC four. What are
(16:10):
you seeing? What are you hearing? I know you're feeling
excited because now there's going to be a parade, right,
we love a parade. I don't know when that will be.
We'll have that covered for you too. It won't be tonight.
(16:33):
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series, defeating
the Toronto Blue Jays five to four in the eleventh
inning of Game seven of the World Series. Will Smith
hit a tie breaking home run in the top of
that inning. The Dodgers had trailed three to zero and
after the third came back to tie it up and
(16:56):
then took the lead in the top of the eleventh
And that was all she wrote here On November first,
twenty twenty five, Your Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series
champions again.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
You're listening to KFI Am six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
This is Michael Monks reports on Michael Monks from KFI News.
The Dodgers are World Series Champions twenty twenty five, back
to back World Series titles. The Dodgers came back from
a three to nothing deficit after the third inning to
tie the game in the ninth and then win this
game five to four and eleven innings, the second game
(17:39):
of the series to go to extra innings, the other,
of course, being that epic eighteen inning game from earlier
this week. What a series it was, but the Dodgers
have claimed the crown again. We are on the air
for at least this additional hour until ten o'clock, just
to keep an eye on things out of the city.
(18:01):
There is postgame coverage on our sister station, LA Sports
Am five seventy. Flip it over there if you want that.
I'm sure they are very excited. Our studios are right
next to each other, and we definitely felt the energy
coming out of there when this game and this series
finally wrapped up. What an exhausting series it has been.
(18:21):
But what a good one. What a good one indeed.
But it is coming back to LA. The Lapda are
not messing around out there. They just tweeted from one
of their main accounts that they congratulate the Dodgers on
winning the second consecutive World Series title. But they say
to our fans, residents and visitors, please keep in mind
(18:45):
several streets and DTLA are closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
Please celebrate responsibly and right now, based on what I
can see from our media colleagues on the television side,
that seems to be happening. I'm getting reports from a
(19:05):
source downtown my spouse that there are lots of fireworks
going off so that is apparently also coming out of
the South Bay. I've heard so people in La are
shooting off fireworks right now everywhere. But whether there were
any symbolic fireworks brewing, I don't know. We haven't seen
(19:28):
anything yet, nothing like last year. But this game just
wrapped up. It was an eleven inning battle. Here was
the call on ESPN. As the Dodgers tied the game.
(19:48):
They all pitched the roe Ocks swing. Here it is again.
Speaker 7 (19:56):
They all pitched the roe Ocks swing in a high
fly ball left field. It's back, It's on its way.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Hot are and we are tied.
Speaker 7 (20:06):
Miguel Rojas a solo homer to the left, and the
veteran is even in this one up It is four four,
the unlikeliest of heroes as Ross touches the plate slaps
five with Otani four four.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
In the ninth, the Blue Jays had the Dodgers on
the ropes. It was four to three. Toronto clamoring for
their first World Series title since the nineties, the early nineties,
they could taste it. It was there for the taking.
They started the game hot led by one in the
(20:47):
ninth and there Miguel Rojas from the Dodgers tied up
the game, we go to extra innings and Los Angeles
is your World Series champion for the second year in
a row. What a game, What a series? And now
we kind of just sit and wait for any foolishness outside.
(21:14):
And I want to hear from you too. If you
see any foolishness, if you hear any foolishness, or if
you think we're safe tonight, open up the iHeartRadio app
to click on that talkback button and let us know
how you feel.
Speaker 8 (21:26):
And I'm surprised you're leaving out the most important part
that the police presence and enforcement is a lot about
the Trump administration and Karen Bass trying to show that
she can keep some sort of order in Los Angeles
without the federal authorities having to move in or the
(21:47):
National Guard having to move in again to maintain somewhat
civil order.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
I don't think you're entirely wrong about that. Caler, thanks
so much for the message. These cities, like LA and
California as a whole, are certainly feeling the heat from
the White House and maybe feeling a bit defensive about
the condition the cities might be in, and are now
being a little more aggressive in how they portray law
(22:19):
and order. So that's a good point because we know
that the president is eager to send the military into
cities like La, so LA is perhaps working a bit
harder beyond just the simple requirement to keep the population safe,
(22:43):
maybe trying to show a little bit that they can
be aggressive and well prepared, well defensed, and they can
go on the offense as well. And that's what we've
seen tonight from the LAPD putting out all of these
messages closing streets and dance calling a citywide tactical alert.
(23:04):
We hadn't had one of those since the protest earlier
in the summer, So this is this is a different approach.
That is for certain. You can join us by opening
up the iHeartRadio app and clicking on that talkback button
(23:26):
and we will place some of your messages in the
time that we have left. If we hear of any problems,
we'll bring that news to you. But right now, it
seems that the celebrations are just euphoric. Everybody's very calm. Brigeta,
(23:48):
Are you hearing anything, Are you seeing anything on the wires?
Are we in chaos moment?
Speaker 7 (23:53):
I've not seen anything that I am monitoring so we'll
see Oliver Moon for what we had already.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Seen our technical direct Oliver Boone, is is anything coming
up on your end? Nothing as of yet. But the
night is young. The night is young. That's what I
don't like about this night. This night is young. And
what time does hell break loose? When it breaks loose?
I don't know anymore. I just ate a pop tart
(24:19):
thirty minutes ago, and I'm feeling that I can't. I
don't know what it's like to be up this late.
You're crazy, Michael Monks. I'm getting wild in here. They're
pop tarts, I know. I mean, I was a little
bit uh, you know. I live down there in the
area that they've shut down the street, So I'm a
little worried about any traffic impacts, but I'm hopeful that
(24:41):
the city doesn't descend into a bit of chaos like
it did last year. I'm glad for the Dodgers and
the Dodgers fans, of course. I know our colleagues just
across the hall are just absolutely thrilled. And my request is,
don't burn my neighborhood to the ground. It has enough problems.
It doesn't need your health help with that. You need
(25:01):
your help with love and kindness. We'll get back to
some of your calls again and some recaps from this
amazing game momentarily. This is Michael Monks's reports.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
This is Michael Monk's reports on Michael Monks from KFI News.
We are wrapping up this additional extra unexpected hour just
to make sure that everything is clean and calm in
Los Angeles. We are seeing fans spill into their neighborhoods
and their streets are shooting off fireworks, but so far,
(25:46):
I'm not seeing any reports of danger or criminality. Technically,
I'm assuming shooting off these fireworks is a violation of
certain statutes, but nothing like last year when the Dodgers won.
The police started tonight by closing streets in advance of
(26:06):
this game, concluding even when the Dodgers were losing, they
were prepared. So if there were plans for street takeovers
and that sort of thing, the police have put the
kibosh on it. Why the Dodgers have repeated as World
Series champs. Here was the call on AM five seventy
(26:32):
LA Sports.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Yamamoto's two coming to Kerk broken back crumball.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Bets has its steps on the back. The tonaverse double play.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
From backs against the wall to back to back, the
Dodgers cement their dynasty.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
God, you gotta love sports game callers. That the lay
by play. The Dodgers were losing this game, so it's
appropriate to say their backs were against the wall. From
backs against the wall to back to back, the Dodgers
(27:16):
cement their destiny. That's a great call.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
One more time, Yamamoto's two coming to Kerk broken back ground.
Speaker 9 (27:29):
Ball bets has its steps on the backs. These double
play from backs against the wall to back to back,
the Dodgers cement their dynasty.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Cement their dynasty. That is incredible. What a great call.
It's a special talent to call a game. That is
a great call. And congrats to the La Dodgers back
to back World Series champions. A dramatic five to four
eleventh inning victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, Will Smith
homering in the top of the eleventh to give the
(28:07):
Dodgers that lead. In the bottom of the eleventh, the Dodgers,
I mean the Blue Jays got a runner to second
and then there was a bunt and there ended up
being runners at the corner with one out, the winning
run on base for the Blue Jays, and then that
(28:29):
double play and the Dodgers win it all. Here's the
latest from around the city. The LAPD has issued another
dispersal order for a different bar. We talked earlier about
reports from the Douglas in Echo Park, which had been
(28:50):
apparently shut down by the LAFD, and then a dispersal
order issued by the LAPD before the game was over.
Can you imagine now? The LAPD has called for a
dispersal order at the chick Hearne Court and Eleventh Street,
telling everyone to leave the area and that anyone who
remains a subject to arrest. This crowd is ordered to
(29:13):
walk north on Figueroa Street and west on Olympic Boulevard.
The police are not messing around. They're directing pedestrian traffic.
Even so, none of that stuff that happened last year
looks like it's going to be permitted this year again.
I'm seeing clips from our friends in television and you're
(29:35):
seeing people out. You know, it's the Dodgers just won
the World Series. But I'm seeing street closures in Pacoima
on Sky five KTLA, so there are some some folks
gathering in the valley. It looks like the latest updates
(29:57):
out of our wire service City News Service US is
that the ferris wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa
Monica Pier is celebrating the Dodgers World Series victory with
a display of Dodgers blue and white and the LA
insignia and scrolling Dodgers win and go Dodgers between now
and midnight. So that might be something exciting to see,
(30:18):
but no real criminality. It looks like just folks hanging
out on the corners and celebrating. So that's good, well done.
Thank you for not burning downtown this year. That's where
I'm headed, next to home, and downtown doesn't need your
(30:40):
help making it worse. That I can tell you. Now
this is news is that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has
said to fans to keep Monday open for a celebratory parade. Now,
this event last year was really really great, so do
(31:03):
forgive me that was a computer noise. The parade celebrating
the Dodgers win last year was really nice, and so
it looks like Monday might be the day for the
parade this year. That has not been confirmed by the city,
and obviously there'll be some permits and all that, but
manager Dave Roberts says, expect a parade on Monday. I
(31:25):
continue to check these cameras from our TV friends, and
you're seeing some excited crowds waving their Dodger paraphernalia, but
you are not seeing the criminality of last year. So
we are going to finish this broadcast at ten o'clock
and get you to Coast to coast as originally planned.
(31:47):
Apologize to those of you who were looking forward to
Malcolm Gladwell.
Speaker 6 (31:55):
For one thing, where is Malcolm Gladwell? And for the
other thing, I'm very sad. The Blue Jays deserve that,
not the overly paid Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
So sorry, we had to bump Malcolm Gladwell tonight to
keep our eye on the ball game and any potential
fallout on the streets of Los Angeles. Buts Malcolm will
be back, not just next Saturday, but he also plays
at nine o'clock on Sundays, so you can tune in
(32:29):
to him next time. And who else we get to hear.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
From California celebrates you out loud, love you, sen Demas,
keep you going there.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
You go, Dodgers fans celebrating tonight. We just you know,
this is a city that wins.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Michael, I love your show every week, but you're doing
such a great job tonight, and when you've been killing
in during.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Your Joey Anne, I don't know how that comments slipped in?
Who let that play? Thank you? This is a I
appreciate you very much. Thank you so much for calling
and taking the time to do that. Congratulations to the
Los Angeles Dodgers back to back World Series champions. Here's
what we'll do. We'll get you to coast to coast. Brigina,
will keep an eye on the news as we do,
(33:21):
and we will have our newscast at the top and
the bottom of the hour as we always do all
night long. And if any high jinks come up, we
will either jump back into programming or we'll just bring
you the latest as it happens, so you can always
keep it here. You can keep it here on KFI.
(33:43):
We'll bring you the latest news. But one thing is
for certain, you can count on our coverage of that
parade Monday, if that in fact goes through as announced
by manager Dave Roberts. What a great night in southern California,
and I appreciate all of you listening to Michael Monks
Reports as you do on Saturday nights. Thanks for the
special additional hour as we watch this game together and
(34:05):
the aftermath and the streets of Los Angeles which does
not look to be too harry right now. Let's hope
it stays that way, and we will talk again next Saturday.
And I will of course always be with you throughout
the week giving you the news and Tuesday night, don't
forget live election coverage. Chris Merrill and I will be
(34:25):
live starting at seven o'clock Tuesday night bringing you the
Prop fifty results and results from around the country, so
you know where to go for the latest news and
election results, and random play by play of the Dodgers
by a news guy when you're feeling like it.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
