(00:00):
Dallas. Uh, it's Paul Allen. I'm the one who met you uh
in the Vikings Entertainment Network on Friday, A very very joyous Friday for you,
likewise for Thursday. Welcome to theMinnesota Vikings. And how are you?
Thank you? Thank you for havingme. You know, I'm very
humbled and blessed, you know,to have the opportunity to be in Minnesota
Viking. You know, I'm justjust ready to get started then, you

(00:22):
know, excited, I mean, did did did? Seriously? With the
way this thing fell historically fourteen consecutiveoffensive players, six quarterbacks in the top
twelve? Seriously did did? Didyou think there was any any way you'd
end up with the Minnesota Vikings?Uh? Nah, No, Actually I
actually was after you guys I pickedup JAJ. I thought I wasn't going

(00:42):
to get picked up like you guysat all. So uh yeah, but
you know, it was a Itwas definitely excited seeing that, seeing that
the area code come across my phone, and you know, I already knew
who it was. And then assoon as the phone or head coach of
the Tonto's voice and a crazy voice, and you know, I just dropped
my head and I knew it,you know kind of work. So yeah,

(01:03):
you uh, you ran a fourfour forty at the combine. All
right, So how does that longspeed help you playing defense? Rushing the
quarterback? Like long speed meshing intoquick twitch. Uh, you know,
it helps me a lot from likefrom my get off, from getting off
the ball to running down plays andyou know, just uh really just just

(01:26):
running, just running fast to thefootball, just chanishing played honestly, you
know, it just hosts a lotof my efforts to you know, the
guy giving the adiulities. Alabama coachesare always considered high end. And then
somebody here with the Vikings told me, you know that that that it's clear
that you were coached up well bythose at Alabama. How did they help
you improve over the years? Oh? Yeah, at the University of Alabama,

(01:49):
I had an opportunity to have twogreat positional coaches, Prose South and
Syria and coach Corument Husson, Andyou know, they helped me improve a
lot as a player and as aman. More importantly, they helped me
a lot from you know, justmaturing as a person off the field to
just how I go about my businessevery day and just from being an overall
football player. And you know, both coaches always made sure I go hard
and always made sure I played inmy foot potentially, you know, and

(02:12):
I'm forever grateful for those coaches.Dallas, your your new position. Coach
here. Mike Patton, former headcoach in the NFL, told me your
football, like you is very highand your knowledge of pass rush was far
beyond any player they talked to thisyear. What what what are keys to
securing an elite knowledge of pass rushat such a young age. Honestly,

(02:38):
I could just say it's just thelove of the game. It's just a
love for the game, honestly. You know, I feel like I've watched
a lot of football and a lotof passers over the over my spend of
playing football, and so you know, I really feel like just just the
more I watch it, you know, the more familiar I see, and
you know, the more I usedto I'm seeing them as well. So
you know, I tried and doit for myself and try and make me

(02:58):
some way. And the worse coachcoach Mike is very good coach. You
know. His his my high schooldefensive coordinated Jason Taylor, who played for
the Dolphins, was coached by himfor the Jets. So it's a small
worup and and Michigan like, like, you know, at least something I
read from one of your bios.Hopefully it's accurate. Michigan, like many

(03:19):
other schools, recruited you, youknow, out of that high school in
Florida. So if that's accurate, were you ever close to playing there with
JJ McCarthy and that nice defense orwas it Alabama all the way? Yes,
I mean at one point I definitelywas close to going to Michigan.
They were in my top five forsure, and I took a visit,
I did, you know, Yeah, it definitely, definitely, definitely was

(03:42):
an option. That definitely was anoption on the table. And so me
and Jaday, you know, youcould have been teammates, but you know,
Alabama was just the best option forme and my family. You know,
Coach Sabans just you know, thisis just something that you can't tay
now is is is the rose ballstill a source object? I mean,
you did sack McCarthy in the game. They won it in overtime, but
you did get to the quarterback. What uh what? What do you remember

(04:05):
being good about McCarthy's game from fromeither what you saw playing or what you
learned up to it. One thingI'll say about Jaj that I kind of
underestimated about from him was he's asneaky athlete. He's a very sneaky athlete.
He's he's very athletic in a way, and that I kind of slept

(04:25):
on in the game. So it'sthat and really just how he could just
run an offense at face you know, with them being such a rent heavy
team. You know, I kindof doubted his ability to be actually quoted,
but and he kind of proved thatwrong. And we played him so,
you know, but we teammates notso I got to worry about that.
What uh with with the way youplay? And and you know,

(04:47):
some people here with the vikings, including your position coach and others just describing
you as incredibly versatile. So like, what position flexibility do you bring to
the team because you are described asan edge, but but you're gonna be
playing many more positions? What positionflexibility? How can that help the vikings?

(05:10):
I could from from my college playing, you know, I have feeling
from me and from the edge toinside three tech to the stack back linebacker
to playing out in this loot toyou know, knowing a whole bunch of
stuff. So, you know,Coach Floyd is being a defensive coordinator.
You know when I when I've seenhim at the facility, when I was
up there a couple of days ago, he said, the the brain is

(05:32):
thinking right now about how he's gonnause me in the defense and stuff.
And so yeah, well yeah, and and do you play much off ball?
I mean, like, like howhow important is that transition to your
game? I'm sure you've done it, but like like being really good playing
off the ball in the NFL,I mean, I would just consider myself

(05:53):
to be an overall football player withyou know, all the all the versus
of things I could do. Butyou know, I just do it whatever
the coach asked me to do.You know, it isn't that specific,
but you know, so yeah,A Dallas Turner, the rookie from Alabama,
seventeenth overall pick, part of theMinnesota Vikings draft covenant. Last Thursday,
US Bank Stadium went nuts. Nobodythought he would be there, but

(06:15):
now he's with us, and thefirst two sacks of your career, Dallas
came in twenty twenty one versus LSU. What what what? What are Alabama
LSU games? Like always definitely thetensions are very high. The tensions are
very high, you know with thatdeep robbery, especially with coach Savan being
involved to him coaching that both ofthe schools. So you know, whenever

(06:39):
we go to Death Valley, youknow, it's it's not really so pleasant,
you know, but it's definitely ahigh energy games. And you know
a lot of the years, youknow, so it's a lot of NFL
talent coming from both teams as well. So yeah, but you know it's
always a good game for share whatwhat What was it like playing for Nick
Saban you know before he retired andlike, like what is he meant to

(07:00):
this part of your life getting youready for the pros? Uh? He's
meant a lot for me and myteammates for sure, you know, just
all the love it he showed us. You know, just how far that
he got is his people more insteadof players. You know, he's been
a lot of great young man,you know, throughout his years here at
the University of Alabama. You know, I feel like I'm one of the
many people that came to his programming. So you know, it's just a

(07:21):
blessing to be close by him andlearned all the valuable lessons and you know,
just learned how to just be thebest man that you could possibly be
on and off the field at theUniversity of Alabama. So you know,
I just want to thank clse savingyou know, just forever recruiting me,
and you know it just accepted mefor who I am and you know,
and voted me into the man ofthe day. That's beautiful. Last couple
here, Thank you, Dallas. What what kind of kicker did the Minnesota

(07:44):
Viking Vikings get in your Crimson Tideteammate Will Record? They got a cold
blooded sniper that that man we wererecord, So yeah, so yeah,
you know, I've been Will Willisin my kick ever since I've been in
college. So that's all I know, man. So yeah, well it
is definitely cold budded for sure toshowed up every single time you need him.

(08:07):
That's fantastic. And and finally youmentioned Brian Flores Dallas rookie camp in
a couple of weeks. What doyou know about the way Brian Flores runs
defense, either what you've been toldor what you've seen from what I've been
told him, also from where I'vebeen seeing, is that he likes to
get his past regards us for alot of opportunities to get one on ones
and aggressions to get to get tothe quarterback. So that's what that's what

(08:31):
I do know for sure. Well, congratulations on being drafted in the first
round and the outstanding collegiate career youhad, and look forward to seeing you
at rookie camp. Safe travels, all right, I appreciate you, thank
you for having me
