Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Rams just seem to have the Hawks number when
it comes to head to head games like this.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
You know, look, I just think ultimately it's the experience,
right of Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford. I think it
kind of boils down to that. I know that's a
bit of an oversimplification, but I just think that matters
at this level when you're talking about the margins, right,
and what kind of puts one team over the edge
when they're that closely matched up against each other. I
(00:27):
think that's the biggest thing. That's where I always go.
Give me the guys with the most experienced in these
kinds of games and the high leverage stakes situations, and
I'll take them more times than not. That doesn't mean
the Seahawks don't win. As a matter of fact, I'm
the only guy at my station today on the CMLA
where I do a morning show that kicked the Seahawks
to win the game. Oh. I did mostly because Look,
(00:51):
I love Sam Darnold. I covered them at USC and
I'm a big Sam guy, and I think that the
biggest thing Sam needs to get over right is about
him not being able to win big games right. And
this is his opportunity. He had the four interceptions last time.
We all know that, and it really passed in the game,
and even despite that, they still had a chance to
win the Seahawks. So I just think Division ribles teams
(01:13):
that are closely matched, I think that they'll end up
splitting the season series.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Wow, it's funny because my executive producer, Christopher Kidd, he
went with the Rams tonight, which and I totally respect
that as well. I think we can all agree, Joe George,
Now you mentioned Sam Darnold, but is there another reason
specifically that you picked the Hawks tonight. Now you notice
the line. They started off as a one and a
half point dog. Now they're one and a half point favorite.
So Vegas has swung the pendulum over to the Hawks.
(01:41):
But why is there anything in particular that you think
that this game. I mean the weather, it's cold, it's rainy,
so it plays right into the hawks favor But hey man,
there's one team who had a chance at beating the
team who hoisted Vince Lombardi's trophy last year, and that
was the La Rams. They went into Philadelphia and they
took their punch and they countered, and they could have
(02:01):
won that game. So I'm just curious, what is it
that you picked the Hawks tonight and why.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Well, I also think not just the side, it's the
total that's also swung and dropped four points right from
forty six and a half to forty two and a half.
Because of the weather, the wind right they're expecting gusts
well above thirty miles per hour. I think that hurts
the Rams, particularly with their passing game. And look, they
run the ball really well between Kyra Williams and Blake
Korum and company, they do a nice job. They're bread
(02:30):
and butter on offense is Stafford and getting that ball
down the field. They've done a really good job this
season with those intermediate routes and those longer explosive routes.
Now no DeVante Adams too, right, That is something that
one would assume will be a big part of the
equation here as to why some of this has swung.
But I do think weather plays a role, and I
think it does play into the Seahawks' hands. So to me,
(02:52):
that was part of it. I felt like it wasn't
going to be the perfect environment for them. The Rams
have been in some really good environments to be able
to throw the football recently, and that won't be the
case tonight. Necessarily.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
George so Dono from ESPN and ESPN LA joining us
here on MJ in the midday Sports Radio ninety three
to three KJRFM.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
The defense too.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I mean, here's the thing about it, George and John
Schneider who I feel.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
And I'm not saying this because I'm here. I've only
been here ten months.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I've always admired John Schneider from AFAR and even when
I was in Boston for three years at the end
of the Brady era, I said, you know, if Belichick
just had a John Schneider and would allow him to
make the picks, then Belichick might still be coaching the
Patriots today. That being said, he swaps Gino for Darnold,
(03:44):
gets rid of dk Metcalf, and now JSN is elevated,
turns dk Metcalf second round pick into Nick emon Worri,
who's been a stud so far. But the Seahawks are
built to take down the Rams. The Rams are the
goal standard in the NFC and specifically in the West,
and they are designed to take them down.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
But McVeigh has done it before. He's been at two
Super Bowls, he's.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Won one, and for some reason, George, they just always
seem to make.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
One more play then. I mean, think about this.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
You mentioned Donald's four picks, George, and the Seahawks still
had a chance at the end of that game on
a sixty one yard field goal attempt by Jason Myers.
So that's crazy. It's just something about it. So they've
got to break that glass ceiling tonight.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, I would agree wholeheartedly, and I think it's gonna happen,
Like if I had to guess, barring some sort of
catastrophic turnover game again, they can do that. And I
will say this, give Mike McDonald a lot of credit, Okay,
And you know I'm gonna mention another guy who is
a defensive head coach that is also doing really good
work right now, and that's Tamiko Ryans. Right. We are
(04:54):
in a day and age where offensive cells and a
lot of the offensive coordinators are guys who used to
be offensive guys became head coaches. Look, I love McVeigh.
I mean I love the guy. Like literally, there's not
a guy I enjoy covering more in sports than head
Because whenever we get a chance to sit down and
chat with him, It's always going to be a real fun,
candid conversations. He's unreal in that sense. He's almost like
(05:16):
talking to like a normal dude all the time. When
you talk to him like we actually have him on,
we spend more time talking about him changing diapers than
talking football, which is fun. Again, it's really along the
lines of again, offense sells a lot of offensive guys
good opportunities. But I think that a guy like Mike McDonald,
the guy like Demiko Ryans and the success the Texans
(05:37):
are having right now with the number one defense in
the NFL, those guys are showing you that there is
a way to combat good offense and it's great defense,
and those guys deserve those opportunities as head coaches. So
you mentioned John Schneider, who to me is the most
important guy, right, the guy who was gonna pick your
personnel in any sports professionally now even collegiately when you
(05:58):
think about it, right, those guys matter more than anybody.
And you're right about Belichick. When he had Scott Pioli,
he had less of an issue in the draft, and
then Pioli moved on, and then he started to have
more issues. So Don Schneider for sure gets a ton
of love. Always making the right moves, finds those market
inefficiencies able to squeeze out, you know, good draft capital
(06:20):
and taking advantage of it, and with his scouting and
finding the right guys to fill those voids on a
on a lesser contract. I think that should be lauded,
for sure. But I do want to make sure Mike
McDonald gets enough credit too, because in a day and
age where offensive coaches rule the day, here's a defensive
guy getting it done at a very high level.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
You know, these two teams.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Speaking of George so Donald from ESPN LA and ESPN
on Sports Radio ninety three three KJRFMMJ in the Midday
Life from Jimmy's on first, let's i'd be remiss George.
Let me give some love to less Snead here because
we're going to talk about the pantheon of general managers.
I'm putting less Snead up there with you know, John Schneider,
Jason Light, how we roseman. I mean, we're talking about
(07:02):
a guy and I gotta ask you this because you know,
after they won the Super Bowl four years ago, they
went through a little tough time, and then of course
you know Obj gone, Von Miller gone, and you know
they did everything they could to win that Super Bowl,
and then they went through a transition. Aaron Donnell retires,
and then last year in the draft, George branden Fisk,
(07:24):
Jared Verse, and a guy that you and I know
very well by the name of Cam Kitchens, who by the.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Way, owns owns the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
I believe four of his six interceptions in his brief
less than two year career are against the Hawks. So
I mean, let's need has done this as well, and
that's why the Rams are there every single year.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
No question. Again, the number one guy, the most important guy,
is the personnel guy, and Lestied has certainly proven that
over time. To your point, he went from the f
M picks guy that's his direct quote, right to get
that first Super Bowl to then being the guy who
mined the draft in an incredible way. Now I don't
have the specific number this year, but their defense last
(08:08):
year with those guys Verse, Fisc, et cetera. They had
a ton of guys that they drafted on that defensive
side of the ball. And if you recall last year,
for the first two thirds of the season they struggled
a little bit on defense, but that last third into
the playoffs, they were as good a defense as there
was in the entire sport because those young guys were
able to make it work and Kris Shula, who was
(08:29):
the grandson of the great Don Shula, is the defensive
coordinator and was able to figure it out and fix
it right. So I do think that plays role in it.
And ultimately, what I would say is this, this is
to me the most astonishing part about what less Need
was able to do with all those picks that he
was able to garner, and how he was able to
nail not only the first, second, third round picks, but
I'm talking about the late picks two on that defense
(08:51):
because you got a bunch of guys who are four, fifth, sixth,
seventh rounders playing meaningful snaps on that side of the ball.
Last year, that defense that they had the entire starting
eleven cost them twenty four million dollars. Think about that
for a second. There's a lot of guys in the
league that made at least twenty four million dollars, you
know what I mean. That's like a pretty good wide
(09:11):
receiver for most teams his entire starting eleven last year
with all those picks that he was able to hit
on Boston twenty four million dollars. So, yes, Leslie deserves
his flowers as well, There's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
I think Michael Parsons seems like he makes that by November,
which his contract. Matthew Stafford, George, you've covered this guy
certainly for the now the fifty year going in the season. Oh,
bad back. Oh, I don't know if he's gonna make it.
They better have Jimmy Garoppolo on standby.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
He's the MVP. He's the MVP. He's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Thirty eight and two months right before Super Bowl Sunday.
I might add he's gonna be thirty eighth on thirty
eight on February seventh. How has he been able to
play his best ball at the age of thirty seven,
balling better than Mahomes, josh All, Lamar Jackson, Sam Darnold
and everybody else in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
So let's go back to some of the stuff we've
already discussed. Right, Less Need has been able to get
him a lot of toys, right, A lot of toys
that have worked out for him. But I would start
with the fact that they did a really good job
along the offensive line, and they've been able to keep
him up right, you know, if he can move around
in the pocket, but he's not the most mobile guy
in the world, as we all know. Right, you can
see it with your own eyes, and if you look
(10:27):
at it. You mentioned that they had that those lean times.
It was really just one year after they won the
Super Bowl. Then after that they were back to being
a playoff team, and then we've seen what they've been
able to do and build in recent years. So the
offensive line, because they had that really rough year. If
you recall, after they won the Super Bowl, they lost
their entire starting five. So what they did was a
(10:48):
lot of those backups had to play. Stafford was getting
murdered out there and then but those guys at least
got game reps that year, and then the next year
they were dealing with more injuries, right, But they were
able to sustain it a little bit because those guys
went through those tough times the year before in twenty
twenty one, and they were able to have a level
of experience that allowed them to do a better job
(11:09):
the next year. And then the next year after that,
they still had injuries and they were able to rotate
guys in and out. Now they're at the point where
they almost have a two deep offensive line, and nobody
talks about that. Everybody talks about the obvious stuff, right
the steel position, guy Puka Devonte, the two running backs,
you know, the four tight end. I know one is
hurt right now, but you know the mcveigh's played three
(11:30):
tight ends. That was playing four at one point in
and out of the game. All four guys were active,
So he's done a lot of toys. They keep him up. Right,
You've got a guy in McVeigh who is as good
and creative a coach as there is in the sport
when it comes to offense. Let's need nailed all those
particular positions that we talked about, but to me, the
most important part is the offensive line. And it was listen, they,
(11:53):
as I mentioned, they were not sure fire guys. All
of those guys, they were able to kind of forge
their way through the fire per se and allow themselves
to become a really good unit.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
And this is the one thing.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
George Adanno from ESPN and ESPNLA on MJ and The
Miday Sports Radio ninety three to three KJRFM live from
Jimmy's on first.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
This is the one Achilles heel for John Schneider.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
And I'm gonna tell you right now, George, from left
tackle the right tackle.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
I don't even need to say the names.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Here's the grades PFF for the Seattle Seahawks O line
left tackle twenty six, left guard rookie sixty seven, center
twenty six, right guard sixty one, right tackle twenty three.
Now the RAMS on line starting at left tackle eighth,
left guard, fifth center, ninth, right guard, second, right tackle tenth.
(12:43):
According to our great Hugh Millin, there's the difference, George
Sadano that John Schneider for whatever reason, and our line
has been better this year. Don't get me wrong, but
they I mean the RAMS you're talking. I don't know
many O lines in the history of the NF know
that have had that high grades. And granted we're talking
(13:03):
you know PFF has only been around for so many years,
but that to me puts the RAMS on another level.
You're I mean, the average great there is single digits,
and that to me is the greatness of less need.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
And that could be the difference in tonight's game right.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
And by the way, again, that doesn't even factor in
the backups that I've mentioned that also have gotten meaningful
playing time and meaningful snaps that if one of those
guys goes out, even for just a player or two,
they don't they don't have a huge drop off like
most teams do in those scenarios.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
No, they don't, absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
George, what do you think is the major keys for
the Hawks tonight to get this win over a team
that they just can't beat.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Well, look, I think the key, to be honest with you,
is going to be able to First you got to
stop the run game, right, that stretch run game that
McVeigh loves to play. It's that old school Shannahan type
ball that you know he's been playing for his entire
career as he's been coaching. Right, So to me, you
stop the run, do then be making a passing game
with the elements being the way that they are without
(14:07):
DeVante Adams, right, and allowing that to be the game
that then the Seahawks can then take advantage of how
the Rams were able to take advantage of them from
a turnover perspective because they had to throw the ball
so much or they felt the need to throw the
ball so much that needs to be flipped. The script
needs to be flipped on the rams And I think
that's their recipe for success because then that allows the
(14:27):
Seahawks defense to really do what I think is best,
which is make sure they create havoc on that side
of the ball.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Kickoff in five hours right across the street from me
at Jimmy Zoon first at Lumenfield Saddano before I let
you go all the things that I love, you know,
you do sidelines everything. What is it like Andre the
Giant was the eighth Wonder of the world, May rest
in peace. China was the ninth wonder of the world.
Victor Wembayama's got to be the tenth wonder of the world.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
What is it like to stand next to him and
then look up?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Do you have to go into the doctor afterwards because
you're looking up to the sky to interview with him?
Speaker 2 (15:05):
It does feel like I'm his child, you know, I'm not. Like, look,
I'm not when I stand next to him right like,
I'm not. You know, I would say I'm a slightly
below average guy, have like five nine, five ten, you
know what I'm saying. So like, you know, I don't
feel like, you know, I tower over over very many people,
but I certainly am like can see people, most people,
(15:26):
most normal people eye to eye, and even NBA players, Okay,
maybe they're like a head taller than me or so,
but this guy, I mean, I don't know. I think.
I mean, if I had to look straight at him,
probably looking right at his like solar plexus, you know,
like looking at his chest at best. It's funny when
I did the interview with him Opening Night, which is
(15:46):
a picture that kind of went viral where he's so
tired in my arm is like stretching out. It was
one of the somebody had said to me, you should
get like a chair to stand on, and honestly, it
would have been funny. But I know that that that's
actually something Victor doesn't love talking about. Like everyone just
talks about his size, and he's just like because I
(16:06):
remember one time I was in a scrum and I
heard him, like somebody was asking him early that that
week about you know, did you grow like did you
grow out another inch or whatever, and he kind of
jokingly said, guys, you know that I'm a lot more
interesting than just how tall I am and I. By
the way, it is true. I don't think there's any
(16:26):
question about that. But it kind of made me feel like,
you know what, maybe he's a little like insecure, or
or maybe that's not even the right word. Maybe he's
just a little tired about talking about how tall he is.
So so I said, you know what, I'm not going
to do that. I'm just going to ask him about basketball.
But he's a fascinating dude. Man Like this guy this
summer went to China to train with the Shallon Monks
(16:51):
for ten days and learned hung pou and it helped him. Yeah,
it helped him with his four strength, his balance and
just like you know, my body soul kind of connection.
We've been seeing someone do that in the NBA since,
you know, way back in the day with Kareem right
when he's just train with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris
and those guys. So he is a fascinating human being.
(17:15):
He's got all sorts of interests beyond basketball. Everyone's seeing
the stuff online with how great a chess player he is.
He went to visit NASA this year in his off
time during the off season. I mean, this guy is
put together the right way, both mentally and physically. And
I just love how much he cares. Like I think
that one of the things that people will knock athletes
(17:38):
for is they feel like, well, athletes now treat this
like a business. They don't care. This guy was like
so upset that he lost the NBA up that he
was like almost to tears, you know what I mean.
Like and the fact that he cares that much, I
just it really is someone that you can gravitate to,
you know. I know he's not American or whatnot, but
I just think that if you are a basketball fan.
(18:02):
And and by the way, I do think we will
be back in Seattle sooner rather than by.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
The way, yes you took the words ride. My mind
was just you know, how excited we got. We had
Joe Varden from the Athletic on yesterday after that story,
when Adam Silver just sort of nonsalse, Yeah, we're we're
looking next year, yeah, Seattle Vegas, Like, thank you, I
tell yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
I think we will be. I think we will be
there sooner rather than later again, which deservedly so. I mean,
one of the best, I thought, one of the best
basketball cities in America in Seattle, I will tell you this,
if you are anywhere in an NBA city and they
happened to be playing at that time, the Spurs happened
to be in town, he is worth the price of
admission because what you will see on that basketball floor
(18:46):
is unlike anything you've ever seen. And there's only a
few guys in the history of the sport you can
say that about, right, Like you know, at least in
my era, right our generation, Jordan was certainly one of
those guys Like you went and he was putting on
a show and you were like, wow, you've never seen
that step furry More recently, just his ability to shoot.
We've never seen anyone be able to do the things
he could do, and I think when Ben Yama is
(19:07):
in that category just because we've never seen someone that
size be able to do things on the perimeter and
then also do the things in the paint right and
create havoc there both offensively and defensively. And again, the
care factor for him is off the charts. So not
to go too far off on a change it. If
your listeners, if your listeners are ever in an NBA
(19:27):
city where the Spurs are playing, do what you can
to go watch that guy play.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yeah, we just missed him in Portland. Me and kid,
we're gonna go down and see it. I'm like, damn it, man,
I got I'm I'm gonna be in Miami for the
in Florida. I'm gonna be now Orlando and Miami coming
up on Saturday for about two weeks. Speaking of George,
I ain't letting you getting out of here without talking
about a certain game that's gonna kick off at College
Station at eleven am local time, that our Miami Hurricanes
(19:55):
rightfully in the college football Playoff. George, how do you feel?
Are you feeling good? And if we win? George, I'm
gonna be with my co host of Picking the Locks
every Friday night right here in ninety three to three
KGRFM with the great Lee Sterling watching the Ohio State
game on New Year's Eve. But before we get to
Ohio State, how do you feel about Saturday.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
I like Miami's chances in this game. The number was
originally Texas A and M six and a half. It's
dropped to like two and a half in some places.
I think Miami has a real chance now. College Station
is a fun place to play if you're the home team,
It's not so much if you're the road team. Miami
has been there recently, as you know with Mario Cristobal
in early in his tenure when he came back to
(20:36):
Miami as the head coach, so it's not going to
surprise him or anyone. Mario Cristobal is also for all
the crap he takes. I mean, this is a guy
that went to Ohio State when he was with Oregon
and ended there. I believe twenty four game home winning streak,
so he's no stranger to going into hostile territories and
winning games. But I just think that this is where
(20:57):
if you're Miami, this is where carsons Beck is going
to pay dividends. The guy was twenty four and three
as a starter in the SEC. He's been in these
environments way I think, way worse environments than this in
the SEC and more hostile per se, and this is
where he's going to pay dividends. I just think that defensively,
they're as good as any team, if not the best
(21:17):
team in the country. I think from top to bottom,
hopeful that they can get Keyante Scott available to play
meaningful snaps in this game because I think beyond Ruben Baine,
who everyone knows is probably going to be, you know,
a top ten or fifteen pick in the NFL draft
coming up. I think that he's as impactful a defensive
player as they have, and he got hurt a couple
of weeks ago, maybe a little over a month ago now,
(21:39):
but the chatter is that he will be available to play.
I just don't know how close to one hundred percent
he'll be. But I just think defensively they're really good,
and Marcel Reid and Texas and m Maggie's really struggled.
I thought down the stretch that game in South Carolina,
I watched every second half time, Yeah, and I just
think that that's one of those games where my eyes
(22:01):
opened a little bit. I also think Texas was good,
but not great. I thought they were great defensively. I
think offensively they were just okay. I think Miami's a
better team than Texas. I think might be certainly a
better team than South Carolina. So I don't want to
try to just do the transitive property, but I just
think Miami's changed to you know, at running back to
Pringle gives them more of a home run threat to
(22:23):
pair with Mark Fletcher, who was their big bruiser. You know,
Mario Cristal ball is going to want to control the
line of scrimmage. I think they can do that. Both
teams also have strong lines on both sides of the ball.
But to me, the key for Miami to win that
game against Texas A and M, and the key for
Texas A and M on the flip side will be
the third down battle. As crazy as that sounds, were
as elementary, rather as that sounds, Texas A and M
(22:46):
is allowing to get this. This is a crazy number.
I had to triple check it when I saw this.
Opponents are only converting fourteen point three percent of third
downs against Texas A and M at home in college
station Like that to me is an unbelievable stat. It's
so tough to their third down defense. You've got to
(23:07):
make sure you're getting yourself into third and manageable. That
way you can overcome that because if they're third and long,
you're playing right into their hands. So that to me
is going to be the key to the game. Who
wins the third down battle?
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Yeah, yeah, you can't wait. Miami is the only team
in the College Football Playoff that has a top ten
O line and a top ten D line. No other
team in the playoffs, including Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, you
name it, Georgia, none of them have a top ten
O line and D line. That's what we call balance.
(23:38):
Before I let you go, George, thanks again.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
For the time. I gotta tell you.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
I remember I was stuck one time in traffic, driving
weaving through the backways of Coconut Grove to get back
to my place in Pinecrest. And this was like three
and Alonzo Morning had just decided to betray the Miami
Heat and go to the New Jersey Nets to team
up with Jason k And and Kenyan Martin.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
I will never forget.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
You were so adamant and I rate on the air
that day and I'm like, wow, Angry Sadano. It's kind
of like the heel Rock. I like, Angry Saddano. I'll
never do. I don't know if you even remember that.
You were like this, you know, he betrayed his Judas
and you were I like wow, And I still remember
(24:25):
this twenty two years later.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
That's funny. I don't remember that, but I could totally
see myself in two thousand and three being that definitely
saying all that stuff. Lobaly Alonzo didn't hear it and
crushed me like a great because he and I have
been great ever since. You know, I guess when he
came back in the two thousand and five season, all
was forgiven and we're all good. But yeah, I'm sure
(24:48):
back then, listen, I was, you know, I was a
fiery guy on the on the airways. I'm just too
old now, man, I got kids, I got you know,
I'm like Dad. I'm like Dad Saddano. Now like all right,
you know, every once in a while i'm more. I
can be pointed, but the fiery, like you know stuff is.
You know, I gotta control my temper. Man. You know,
(25:10):
I'm hot head, hispanic by nature. So I got a
more zen these days. That maybe that's all the years
of living on the West Coast and in LA now
for nearly a decade.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
All right, Well, we everybody here in Seattle appreciates and
your your transparency, and you're a objectivity picking the Seahawks tonight,
and so I'll say this before I let you go
gocinees on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
All right, buddy, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
I have a good one, all right, George Sadano from ESPN,
ESPN LA the what do you say? Text of the
Day four nine four five one, brought to you by Boresaid.
Boresaid committed to crap since nineteen oh five. We'll get
to that next life from Jimmy's on First, getting crowded
rams fans not your house tonight. We'll get that to
that next right here on MJ in the midday.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
All right, what do you say?
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Text of the day Live from Jimmy's on First, getting
ready for Seahawks tonight, five point fifteen.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Kick.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Just believe IM's gonna be out here shortly, and we're
gonna have Softy and Dick Payne out here from three
to seven. They're gonna come out here, I believe for
a postgame at Jimmy's on First. So Jimmy's on First
is a place to be. Kid, lead us off.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
When Adam Silver talks about Seattle getting the signs back,
I just think of Lucy holding that football for Charlie Brown.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Oh no, no, no, no no. This one twenty twelve
San Francisco Seahawks Sunday Night football were when Bam Bam
stole Vernon Davis's soul that is when the lob arrived nationally.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Big Scott in Tumwater.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
Hey MJ, Hey, hey kid, when are we gonna get
some Booker t theme music?
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Oh the Harlem heat.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
No no no, no no no.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
No no no no. That was that was fire. It was,
it was really good.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
I enjoyed that one.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
I forgot all about it to the listener text us So.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
I know, I know, hey, I we're not a music station.
But if you have some requests, we will come. We
will act.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Weis every now and then. Uh.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
This one the Seattle Times was a rag even when
newspapers were relevant.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Tonight the Seahawks exercise the demons. There is a new
sheriff in town, Mike McDonald. I might believe that is.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah. I like this one from Chief.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Here's to all the MJ haters getting lumps of coal
and a comfy pair of earbuds because you know they
listen every day and text you saying they don't listen.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Three lol emojis.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Oh I know, I know, especially the ones who've been
doing it since I started in February.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
I'm not listening, but you can't believe what you so
the old Sam door. Yeah oh Yeah no, it's uh no,
I you definitely aren't.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Yeah, no, sure, I really think Sam is playing for
the rest of his contract tonight. This defense is too
good to wait on him to show up next year
or the year after. Maybe he does better in the playoffs,
but I would doubt it. If he does not play
well tonight, may need to go in a new direction
next season, depending on this game.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Welcome to the party, MJ.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
The Brethon family has ran that paper, Seattle Times into
the ground and only cares about seeing their own op
ed pieces and having a tantrum in people like yourself
from KJR and don't let their employees go on with
your station. Bring it up and cross talk with Ian.
And then another one said, watch out, MJ. The Chads
and Karen's are gonna pull over in their super ru
(28:48):
and ten speeds and send you mean text messages.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Oh there was one of them. There was one of them.
Yeah no, I we got one of them, but it
wasn't I didn't see too many.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
I haven't been really is paying attention as much as
the text line Today's normal because I'm so psyched about
this game. I with all due respect to the Seattle
Torrent women's hockey team. I'm actually excited about the Seattle
Seahawks versus the LA Rams. And guess what kid so
is ESPN, SO is the NFL Network, So is get
(29:21):
up first take PTI. You know, there's no around the
horn anymore, but you get Pat McAfee show, so is
everybody else the epicenter of.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
The entire sports world.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Tonight eminates from right across the street at the home
of the Twelves at Lumenfield. The Seattle Seahawks, Our Seattle Seahawks,
and I can't wait, Hawks get it done twenty three
seventeen tonight.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Last one from me, my little four leg parlay for
Seahawks tonight at one fifty four plus one fifty four
k nine plus thirty rushing yards Charbona plus twenty rushing
yards Jason Myers one field go and under fifty and
a half points.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Oh yeah, I like the under. Definitely like the under. MJ.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
If the Seahawks win tonight, I believe they clinch a playoff.
Birth Am I wrong? No, you are right, You are
absolutely right. So that also is on the line as well.
And hey, are you gonna have a pick on Miami Texas?
A and m Asta manana, as they say in me
on me, Okay, come on sta, Yes, I will tomorrow
(30:28):
at eleven thirty, maybe eleven forty five, I will have
a pick on that, maybe that game or maybe another
playoff game, but I will have a winning pick that
I'm gonna put a G on, not a not oh
maybe a grand, but I don't mean a grand. I
mean a G word guarantee, and I don't usually do that.
So I'm guaranteeing a pick tomorrow at eleven thirty eleven
(30:48):
forty five.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
So this's a nice little tea. Stay tuned for that one,
all right.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Uh, we will talk, I believe to the mayor. Gonna
be coming up next. I haven't seen him yet, but
I am here. Come on out, stif up by Jimmy's
on first. Crowds getting kind of a little rowdy and rambunctious.
We like to see it. And we'll be kicking off
in about I believe four hours and thirty minutes, four
(31:13):
and a half hours.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Cannot wait. Final segment coming up next.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Thing to George Donald cole Muscrove for coming on today.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Oh one more programming note tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
No Fantasy Football with Ian Ritchie, but we will do
instead of Hot Take Monday, Hot Take Friday, coming off
the Seahawks game, so you will have a chance tomorrow
at noon to win another platter of bores Head sandwiches.
And we'll do the voice text, the free iHeartRadio app
ninety three to three kjar microphone icon button.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
We'll open up the phones.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Best phone calls we've had since doing this in the
beginning of the season we just had on Monday. Let's
make them better tomorrow at Friday. We're we are the
voice of the fans, so I want as much of
you and your voice and inclusion on this show as possible.
And we're gonna do more of this coming up in
twenty twenty six. And one more thing, Kid, Yes, the
band Living Color, the one who sing called Personality. They
(32:11):
were right here outside the window. I wanted them to
come in, but they said they had to go, So
they're here in Seattle. Final segment coming up next as
NLA Coldbust Grove from Seahawks wire for joining us Christopher Kidd.
Were live at Jimmy's on First The mayor has TV obligations.
(32:35):
He's got to crack and cracking urn in Calgary tonight
big game there and hopefully can get things turned around.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Mayor how's it been and will they well before we
get to crack.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
And I just got to ask you this, and you
were as you look back and you know the Seahawks
history better than anyone, and you covered this team on
the road everywhere for fifteen plus twenty years with Fox.
How if you could go back to the last biggest
regular season game here in Seattle of this magnitude, with
(33:07):
so much on the line, what year would that be?
Speaker 5 (33:10):
I've been trying to think that, honestly, Mark, I don't know.
I mean, it's been a while. It's probably my guess
would be the last two games, the last game of
twenty twenty twelve, No, twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen, just because
it got in the number one seed. I think that
would be it. It's just this one is massive because
(33:34):
when they've been in the playoffs, you know, the last
few times, it's always been as a wildcard team, right,
like you know, and they did win the division in
twenty twenty. But I think we'd all be I think
we could all agree that twenty twenty didn't matter. Like
I mean, there's no fans it didn't matter if you're
playing home or away. So yeah, I mean, I'm looking back.
They play so Saint Louis in twenty thirteen at home,
(33:58):
they beat him twenty seven to nine. They had to
win that game to get the top overall seed, which
they did and then it went on to win the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
So that was a that was huge. I'm just by
the way, who is that against again, Saint Louis Rams. Oh,
Saint Louis. That's oh my god, that's you like this,
You're like this? It gets better.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
The next year in twenty fourteen, again playing the last
game of the year, needing to win to have the
number one overall seed. They won at home against the
Saint Louis Rams in twenty five Well, those those two
would jump out at me probably.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Yeah, yeah, I was shocked.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Ian.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
I don't know if you heard this, and if you did,
then it destroys my question here. See, if Seahawks win tonight,
what do you think they're percentages to win the NFC West?
Speaker 3 (34:44):
If they win tonight, what do you think it would be?
Speaker 5 (34:45):
Just off the top of that, I'm gonna guess around
eighty five percent.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Dude, everybody we all agree with that. Do you know
it's only forty eight percent because the forty nine ers.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Yeah, no, they're I mean their problem. Yeah, there Mark,
they're a problem. I mean there's there're no there's no like,
they won't go away, and and that last See, this
game is massive, massive, But then you have to go
to Carolina, which is still in it. They can still
win the the NFC South. They're not going to get
(35:17):
in as a wildcard more than likely, but they can
win the NFC South. And then you have to which
I mean, I think we all think that they're gonna
beat Carolina, right, They're gonna win Charlotte next week.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Yeah, I mean the Rams didn't, but yeah, I would
think so. I mean, Mike McDonald's a road warrior.
Speaker 5 (35:32):
And then and then you've got the game at San
Francisco to finish off the year.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
It's just as huge as this game is.
Speaker 5 (35:37):
It's massive, it's massive. But then they have the two
more and something tells me I was talking to lend
about this a few weeks ago. For a while I thought, well,
you know what I mean, the San Francisco game won't matter.
It's going to match because there was a time when
you looked at him like that games.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
It really won't matter. No, that game will be for probably.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
If it's not for the division, right, if it's not
for the division, that game will be for probably the
difference between the five seed and the seventh seed. Yeah,
so yeah, I mean, yeah, it's just huge. You know,
I don't worry about these guys. I don't know about you.
I don't worry about these guys playing on the road
as much. You just said it, Mike McDonald's road warrior.
(36:19):
But the first round bye would be awesome. That would
be awesome. And if you had your brothers, yeah, you'd
certainly rather play at home than on the road. But
you know, they can play on the I think the
big thing is is you can get that buye, you know,
and get Charles Cross healthy and you know, get him
back out there and a team that's kind of been
banged up all year with a lot of you know,
(36:40):
Love been hurt.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Jones has been hurt, Darren Reid's hurt.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
By the way, Ian, I don't when was the last
time Tory Horton played like October?
Speaker 5 (36:47):
Yeah, I mean it's it's you know, I mean, speed
guy with a hamstring, right, that's not it's not a
good recipe. So it's I mean, it's it's it's huge.
It is so huge tonight it's crazy, it's fun. I mean,
it's amazing that Thursday Night Football got it right with
a primetime game that matters. That's not you know, that's
not you know, two teams that are sitting at five
and nine. No, it's two teams that are probably the
(37:09):
two best teams in the NFC and number three San
Francisco if at the NFL, and then were three might
be San Francisco, And god, won't they just go Can
they just go away?
Speaker 3 (37:18):
I know? No? No, oh, you can't get rid of them?
And uh you what do you got coming up? The
Great co Cell?
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Yeah, so we move things around obviously with Greg you know,
with the game tonight, Great co Cell his preview, like
he does it better than anybody. We'll talk to Great
coming up here about one twenty today. And then uh
it's it's week two of Fantasy football playoffs, and you
think tonight's game's got some guys on the line, Nikua Stafford,
Kyron Walker, Darnold JSN.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
I could go on.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
Uh so yeah, we'll do that four nine four, starting
at one o'clock for your text for fantasy football. We'll
get to that with Funston. It'll be his last visit
of the year because we're all next next week is
Christmas and then we're off on the first, and by
then fantasy football is over. So this will be it
for it our unofficial start of the weekend, which I'm
always bummed out about. Bittersweet day. But four nine, four
to five one on your phone. Calls coming up in two.
(38:10):
But yeah, man, a lot of football. Coast Cell. We'll
break it down with Coast Sale. What does the DeVante
Adams absence mean for the Rams? What is Charles Cross's
absence mean for Seattle and Away? How is it down
there by the way, how is it?
Speaker 3 (38:24):
It's it's percolating big time.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
It's starting to Oh yeah, you can start to feel it,
and everybody's here, and I just love the energy. I
can f you could just scent it as the lake.
Great Gorilla Monson would say. The electricity is so thick
you can cut it with a knife. And I think
that's what it's going to be like tonight inside Loom
and Field. Can't wait, man, Yeah, I don't think.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
I don't think the weather's going to damp in the
spirits and you know the cool thing about that stadium. Now,
I'm people that are sitting in the north or South
end zones are going to say shut up for nests,
but I think it's what seventy percent of the stadium
is actually covered by the overhang, so which is good.
So a lot of people stay dry. So there you go,
have fun.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
So for the mayor coming up next, Softy and Dick,
we'll be live here at Jimmy's on First from three
to seven.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Go Hawks, Osta Manana and we'll see you tomorrow. Don't forget.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
Instead of Hot Take Monday, we're gonna do since it's
gonna be after the Hawks game tonight, we're gonna do
Hot Take Friday with your chance to win a platter
of Boreshead sandwiches tomorrow right here on MJ and the
Midday with Christopher
