Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, Mark, thanks so much for having me on,
by the way, Always great to talk to the folks
in Seattle. You know the seventy five Masters, when Jack
one with Weiss Coffin Watson is considered the greatest Masters ever.
Sunday in eighty six, when Jack one, at forty six
years of ages is considered the best day in Masters history.

(00:21):
Twenty nineteen was a great Master. So Tiger winning his
fifth after waiting fourteen years since his last one in
two thousand and five. But man, yesterday was special. It's
a career Grand Slam. It's right up there with those three.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I think.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I think it's one of the top four or five
Masters of all time. When you complete the career Grand Slam,
Mark at Augusta. That's saying something that's historic, that's special,
and it needs to be put in its proper context.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Steve Sand's joining us here on MJ in the midday. Yeah,
you know what, I'm surprised you didn't mention. And maybe
because it was the largest a margin of victory and
tournament history just Tigers first to ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Seven, I'm surprised.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
But because it was so anti climatic, you can't put
it up there with what you said, like all those
twenty nineteen, nineteen seventy five, you can't quite put it
because it was just it was over after Saturday, right, yeah,
I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Listen, that was a historical day. Tiger Wood's probably the
second grandest player in the history of the sport going
on to win his first Masters. There was a lot
of historical context as far as you know, not being
a Caucasian man winning the Masters for the first time,
Tiger being a prodigy since day one. Winning it for
the first time, the first of fifteen Majors is incredible.

(01:44):
It propelled him into a completely different category. But like
you said, you know, it was a twelve shot win.
It was a blowout. It was absolutely incredible. It was historical.
There's no debate on either one of those, but to
call that one an exciting Master was the highest rated
Masters of all time. Mark It's the highest rated golf
tournament of all time. So maybe yesterday I'll sur passed that.

(02:06):
We'll have to wait and see. But you know, nobody
cared that he won by twelve on that Sunday because
it was literally the highest rated golf tournament in the
history of television in America. So I don't know. We'll
wait and see what the ratings are tomorrow. But yesterday
was awfully good. The whole week was awfully good, and
it was tight the whole way through. So I probably

(02:26):
shouldn't have admitted ninety seven on that list. That's why
I said top five. They give you four examples, but
top five, so maybe ninety seven is in there too.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Steve Sands here on MJY in the midday, did you
think yesterday when Justin Rose was coming back, he was
down by six strokes through ten holes. Have you seen
a comeback like that in a major, especially like the Masters,
being down by so much and being able to send
that thing into a playoff.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah, it was incredible. It was a heck of a performance.
And you know, Justin Road is a world class player.
Josham was a world class player. Rory is a world
class player. Lud big Oldberg looks like he's going to
be a world class player. Patrick Graid's already won a Master's,
Scottie Scheffer's won two of the defending champion, number one
player in the world. They were all right there in
the mix, so you know, for that big comeback to

(03:15):
happen on a Sunday ten birdies. Justin Rose had ten
birdies on a Sunday at their Masters. I mean he kidna,
so you know he was also in the mix at
the Open Championship, was Ander Schoffley last summer. So that's
two majors in a row. At forty four years of age.
Justin Rose has found some game. But that comeback yesterday
obviously came up a little bit short, but it was

(03:37):
It was an amazing day all around. There were some greatness,
there was some there were a lot of hiccups. It
was a wild ride for sure.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Steve, what did it take Rory eleven years since his
last major and all this time to win his first Masters?

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Why was there?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
It was almost like reminded me of Tom Brady in
the sense that Brady and Belichick they didn't win a
Super Bowl for a decade from two thousand four until
twenty fourteen.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
It took them a decade.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Why did it take Rory so long to win a
major since his last one in twenty fourteen.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
The simple answer is it's just hard to win. That's
the simple answer. The you know, the other answer is
the pressure, the anngs, the heavy burden carrying the game
best player of his generation, winning three of the four
at an early age and having to finish it at Augusta.

(04:32):
Only Gene Sarazen in nineteen thirty five did that. I mean,
it's it's really hard to win. It's really really hard
to win. You only get four shots at majors a year,
and you only get one shot a year at the Masters.
And if you think about it, you've got to be
able to bring your game to majors. You can't find
your game at majors, so you only get four shots

(04:53):
out of the year, which means the timing needs to
be right. And this year the timing was perfect. He
was playing bet.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
He's won twice on the PGA Tour for the first
time in his career. Before the Masters, he'd one of
players he'd won at Pebble Beach. And you know, I
just think it's just really really hard. The simple answer
is it's really really hard. The different answer is it's
a heavy burden. Mark did a big time heavy to

(05:24):
carry that, to carry the sport and to carry that
type of pressure all on your loansome, no teammates, no coaches,
no GM You talked about the Mariners, you talk about
the Seahawks, you talk about the Kraken. You can't take
time outs and man, you know, if you make a
if you make a mistake in golf on the thirteenth
pole like he did yesterday, you can't take a time out.

Speaker 6 (05:46):
You can't have a teammate pump you up. You can't
do anything like that. And in golf you've got a
reset and you just have to man up. And yesterday,
you know, there's eleventh try. The other five major champions,
the grants champions in the history of the sport mark
three of them did it in their first try. Jack Nicholson,
Gary Player did it in their third try each.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
This was Rory's eleventh. You know that pressure builds and
builds and builds. It's a heavy bird.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Then how much pressure do you think build when he
nearly blew it and it had to go to a playoff,
and you're like, uh, oh, is this Greg Norman at
the ninety six US Open, I mean, is he gonna
blow this thing? And then he to me, Steve, it
felt Steve Sands like he won it twice. It felt
like I was even more impressed with the fact that

(06:34):
he almost blew it. After seventy two, it goes to
a playoff and he has to do it again. That
to me, even at it, in my opinion, made this
one even more epic for Rory.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
Look, he won it, he lost it, he want it,
he lost it, he won it, he lost it.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
And the he won it again.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
You know, if you were a Rory fan, you saw
that double bogie and then his five at two, you thought,
oh my gosh, this is gonna go really bad. And
then he's rolling along, he's got a four shot lead,
plays its smart at thirteen and dumps it in the water,
and you're like, oh my gosh, it's gonna happen again.
And then he Bertie's fifteen, birdie seventeen. He's got a one.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Shot lead, and he goes eighteen.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
He splits the fairway, has a wedge in his hand,
puts it in the bunker, doesn't make the putt. They
go to a playoff, same exact drive, same exact second shot,
except this time he executed the second shot fifteen minutes
after he dumped the same club, same yards in the water,
and he ended up coming big, coming up big, and
then making the putt as well. So it was a

(07:38):
roller coaster ride. Man, it's it's it was wild. It
was exhausting to watch, It was exhausting as a fan.
And the emotions, the highs and the lows were all
on display.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
And it was cool. Man, it was.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
I mean, Master Sunday is the biggest day in the sport,
and yesterday certainly delivered ups and downs. Not great golf
all the time, but certainly the drama was there, and
it was it was very very cool.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
Steve Sands from NBC and the Golf Channel right here
on MJ in the midday. I know it's like comparing,
you know, players, and now that Rory has officially won
his career Grand Slam, something that Phil Mickelson has not done.
He could never get that elusive US Open. Steve Sands,
do you do you put Rory? I know he doesn't

(08:30):
have as many majors as Phil does, his old Lefty,
but does he sort of? Is he getting there? Is
he on pars? He surpassed Lefty so far in your eyes?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Oh, I don't think he's there just yet.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
I mean Las forty five ways, Rory's got thirty, so right,
He's got six mats to Rory's five. He does have
the career Grand Slam, Yeah, which puts him in at
every category. Phil never reached number one in the world,
which is weird, but he was in the wrong era
during entire exactly. Yeah, Rory's been number one, He's got

(09:03):
the career Grand Slam, and he's been a Fedets Cup
champion three times.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Phil never did any of those three.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
So he has one less major and he's got a
bunch less wins. But he's only thirty five years of age.
So let's let it marinate a little bit. Okay, But
right now, if you have to pick one or the other,
you would pick Rory's career over Phil's career right now,
for sure.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
How about though, and you have to your heart, my
heart aches and breaks for Justin Rose, because here's a guy,
I mean, like six under sixty six on the you know,
Sunday and the Masters and what you know, to force
the first playoffs since twenty seventeen at Augusta. But but
what was your reaction Steve Sands on the seventy second hole?

Speaker 4 (09:48):
What do they always think?

Speaker 3 (09:49):
All the golf coaches and all the instructors tell you
try for show putt four dough twenty foot birdie putt
on the seventy second hole.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Were you just did.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
You just put your hands over your eyes and be like,
is this really happening?

Speaker 4 (10:05):
When Justin Rose nailed that putt.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
It just added to the drama. Man, it was an
amazing moment.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
Forty four years of age could have become the second
oldest winner of the Masters, to Jack Nicholas at forty six.
By the way, you know what else was in that
playoff In twenty seventeen, Justin Rose lost Sergio Garcia. Two
playoff losses at the Masters. That's a tough pill to swallow.
But Justin's a class act. You saw that on display afterwards.

(10:33):
He's all classing grace and they're good friends. They've known
each other a long time. And I know Justin would
have loved to have been the villain there and prevented
Rory from winning. But he's also in another sense, two
thieves can be true at once. He's also happy that
McElroy achieved the career Grant slave.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Steve Sands from the Golf Channel NBC were of the
best golf analysts on the planet here on MG in
the mid day, Steve, why and you know this because
you've got a chance to know all these guys, specifically Rory.
Tell tell our listing audience here in Seattle and throughout
the PMW why everybody really truly want loves Rory and

(11:14):
want him to win.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
I think it's because he's genuine, he's authentic, he's nice,
he's competitive, he's great, he's warm, He's got it all man.
He's a very thoughtful kid. He's well read. You know,
he's not afraid to be vulnerable. He speaks his mind.
A lot going on in the world of golf the

(11:40):
last few years, and he certainly has, you know, gone
back and forth on his stances on what's taking place
in the world of golf. But what has not changed
at all is the fact that he is not afraid
to stand up there or sit up there and take
the questions and take the heat. The other thing is
I think a marrior sports fans. I think people in

(12:02):
America love a redemption, love a second chance, love another opportunity.
They love perseverance and resilience. They love grit and toughness.
And it's golf. We're not talking about boxing here or football.
But you know, he's been kicked around a lot on
the golf course at major championships. A lot of it
is own doing a lot of it. He's just gotten

(12:23):
beat by another player who played better that particular week.
But it's been a long slog for Rory. He's grown
up in front of the eyes of the world. And
the last time you want to Major, he was twenty
four years old. Now he's thirty five, and I think
people just enjoy seeing someone get off the mat see
if they can keep going and keep doing it. And
just like he told his daughter yesterday, Poppy is four

(12:45):
years old, never give up on your dreams. Keep grinding,
keep working, keep showing up. You never know what's going
to happen. And clearly Rory has put in a lot
of work to get to this point. And I think
the American audience, even though he's not one of our
own than Irish, I think in the American audience has
embraced him. They love him, and there's a good reason
for that. He's a really good guy and he's a

(13:07):
fabulous golfer.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Is Steve now that he's won his first major in
eleven years, as you mentioned back last time, when he
was twenty four years old, now thirty five, could you
it kind of just takes that one. Could you start
to see, you know, some compiling up in the future
once you get that one? And okay, you know the
same thing with the Patriots, right, they went a decade

(13:29):
without winning it, and then they won three of the
next six Super Bowls. So could you see Rory go
on a Brady Belichick type run for some upcoming major's year?

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (13:40):
Man, you know, I think if you're gonna take one
side or the other that he's now won his Grand
Slam and that's gonna be it, or he's now going
to go on a run because he's just playing great
golf and he has that freedom to play as he
wishes as opposed to that burden that he had for
eleven years we talked about earlier.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
I could definitely see him going on a run.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
Next week's next month's Major Championship at the PGA is
a Quail Hollow. He's won twice there on the PGA.
Tor He's very familiar with Quail Hollow and Charlotte.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
And you yes, yes, im As are you you're from?

Speaker 5 (14:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (14:14):
Stan, What a beautiful course that is?

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Man?

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Yeah, I think you know he's gonna be the favorite,
you know, Scottie scheffer is the number one player in
the world. Scottie Scheffler has been the best player in
the world the last three years.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
There's nobody playing better golf than Rory. There's nobody hotter
than Rory.

Speaker 5 (14:29):
And I think that Rory's going to go into the
next month's PGA Championship as.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
The favorite and he's both reserve.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
There's no reason he can't win to Quail Hollow, He's
already won there before.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
And the US opened Oukmont, that's a crap shoot. Who
the heck knows.

Speaker 5 (14:44):
The fourth major of the year, the Open Championship, is
in his hometown at Royal Port, Rush, right down the streets.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Where he grew up in Hollywood, Northern Ireland.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
So this should beat a magical magical twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
It already has been, but it.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Could be a special special ride in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Steve Sans, I'll let you out here on this one.
I think next to Rory, CBS was the big winners
back to back. They got a brand named Final four
with Duke Houston, Florida and Auburn, and then on a
final Sunday you got Rory McElroy Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Reid,
Bryson Deshamba and Justin Rose. And just like the final

(15:23):
four and the national CHAMPIONI it all came down to
a climatic ending. So CBS has got to be loving
life after the last two weekends.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Not as much as a Maryland basketball fan is. That
Duke got upset on Saturday night.

Speaker 7 (15:38):
By the way, Steve, I was there, they threw me
down there.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
That was Oh hey, Steve, I oh man, I too
have no love loss for Due. I could not believe Steve,
that Duke blue and I know you and I didn't
lose any sleep over this, Steve. They blew a six
point lead with thirty five seconds left in regulation, and
they didn't blow at Steve like Rory did it, and
it went to overtime. They blew it and regulated, they

(16:04):
were up by six with thirty five seconds left and
they lost by three.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
How great was that?

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Didn't break my heart?

Speaker 4 (16:14):
You know, I gotta tell you.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Showing up to the postgame press conference with Shier and
Conker Nipple and Cooper Flag, I did feel I did
feel a little bit bad for Cooper Flag because I
could tell obviously, you know, I mean just this eighteen
year old kid, and you could tell. I could see
he had been crying. And I asked him a question.
I said, what would you have done different? And he

(16:38):
answered it straight up. He didn't give you that stock
you know jock talk answer. He said, we should have
communicated better. We didn't communicate well enough. And I was like, whoa, Okay,
all right, I appreciate that, but uh yeah, man, it's
one of the last two weeks it's been, especially for CBS.
And then uh oh, I got to ask you, Williams,

(17:00):
you fanned.

Speaker 8 (17:03):
You know.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
The way that Kevin Willard exited wasn't pretty obviously, and
I think if he had a couple of beers with
him in private, he would say I shouldn't have said that,
I shouldn't have done that.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
But have he said all that?

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Since Kevin Willard no longer wanted to be at Maryland,
pretty much the best option. I mean, you know, I
guess they tried to get the natoates, but that was.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Never gonna happen. In Alabama. They talked to.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
Chris Beard, but that wasn't gonna happen either. And I
think Buzz Williams is a winner. He's a good coach. Yep,
he's won everywhere he's gone. I just hope he stays
at Maryland more than four or five years, because that
seems to be the trend with him. But Gary Williams
did the same thing. He went from America to Boston College,
to Ohio State, then back to Maryland where he went
to school and played and stayed for more than twenty years.

(17:45):
So hopefully Buzz stays. Hopefully Buzz goes to a few
final fours and wins the national Championship or two. But
you're a good coach, probably the best option we could
have had.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Yeah, Steve Sands, Yeah, I'll tell you right now.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
I was already recruiting Natoates and PJ carl some former
Super Songs coach when the Sonics come back.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
We're all, you know on pins and needles here, Steve.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Hopefully in a couple of seasons, I've already recruited NATO's
to be the coach of the Super Songs and I
asked Pjego to me, when I look at this guy,
I just see he goes Oh, it's he's He's tailor
made for NBA. I think the next step for him
is is coaching Palo ban Caro hopefully here in Seattle,
but he'll be in the NBA for his next job,
I believe, because Alabama's gonna They're gonna end me up there.

(18:27):
He's he's done such a good job, Steve. It's been
way too long, and it's always a pleasure to talk
to you. We'll be in touch, not only as as
the other majors come around, but just to keep in
contact anyway, and love to have you on here and
certainly before next month's Major and see if Rory can
make it two in a row and do the Rory

(18:47):
Slam the way Tiger did back in the day.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
My pleasure, Mark, good to be ell.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Yeah you too, Steve Sands from the Golf Channel, NBC
right here on MJ in the midday. On the other side,
what do you say? Text of the day four nine
four five one. We'll get to all of you text
in Will you read it live in real time on
the air MJ in the midday live from the R
and R Broadcast studios on ninety three three kJ RTHM.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
You're home for the best NFL Draft coverage.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
The Kraken and the Huskies, all right, four nine four
five one, text of the day. A lot of people
are thanking me for saying, you know, Rory won't win it,
so they bet on Rory and you want to Hey, whatever,
whatever you got, whatever you can do. It's it's all good.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
All right.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
I read this earlier, but this was wild, so I'm
gonna read it again. Mark Mark Mark, this team, the
mari Nurse gave up a ten game lead last year.
You're getting sucked into the Mariners. Hope Vortext. Don't do
it man exclamation point, Yeah, I know.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
What can I say? I'm doing it?

Speaker 8 (20:03):
From the two five to three. Thank you Mark for
being honest about the Mariners. But as a fan, I'm
confident this team will have some success later on this season.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Go ms all right, here we go.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Got you gotta you know, yeah, you gotta have some
to They've won four in a row.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
They're they're they're doing well well.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Speaking of Chads, from the two oh six, Good grief, Mark,
you complain about everything by a sleep mask. The guy
paid for his seat just like you did. But he
was and somebody else said that, No, he was right
next to me. He had the window seat. If I
had the window seat, I would have just turned it
wouldn't have been an issue, but he had the window seat,
So yeah, it is where it is.

Speaker 8 (20:46):
This is from two o six, Hey kid, The Arcadia
track meet was outstanding on Powell shined into thirty two
hundred in that event for the first time ever. Five
high school boys that can run sub four minute mile. Wow,
Powell dominated. From in high school repair, Washington, something for discussion.
There was multiple high school records broken at that track. Me,

(21:06):
what do you think is going on? Just like in
all other sports, these athletes are getting stronger, faster. That's
just what it is right now. I mean I thought
I was doing something special jumping pretty far in the
long jump, and now kids are jumping twenty three feet consistent.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
So it's something's in the water. They Yeah, yeah, it
certainly is. For the two oh six, Thank you, Mark.
We haven't had a homer host in a very long time,
and believe this is why Seattle lacks championships. Too many
homers on the radio scared to be critical of the
local teams. In talent hashtag keep it real I always will.

Speaker 8 (21:46):
This is from O guy Marcus Mark. My man, you
were the Karen in the airplane situation.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
You know, I think somebody else said that as well,
but I mean he didn't need it to be doubt
like it, like the everybody in the plane put the
shades down so we could keep the sun out. Everyone's
doing it. But this guy who came on the plane
really late, like right before, was about to take off too.
So uh. Enjoy the list in ten to one. Retire

(22:20):
in July after thirty five years. Now will be sports
and family all the time. Stack also known as the Kid,
keep it up, James, thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
From the three to six zero.

Speaker 8 (22:35):
Let's see MJ from the two o six. Are you
apologizing for the lack of faith in Rory?

Speaker 3 (22:43):
I'm not apologizing for anything. I'm just saying that I
got it wrong. There's none to apologize for. It was
a I mean, I had eleven years of sample size
to a decade to prove that he, you know, wasn't
gonna win it. And then all of a sudden I
go on this rant call the Tony Romo of gaulf.
Then he wins it. He shines. He just like the

(23:03):
Mariners after my rent on Wednesday, they win four in
a row. You're welcome there, you go. Let's see here,
what else we got okay, uh to two. There's a
lot of good ones. Why are people who never played
ball obsessed with saying someone quote choked from the two

(23:26):
US six?

Speaker 4 (23:27):
You know what I want to know?

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Why are people who play ball so obsessed with people
who didn't play ball on a high level? Because can
I just tell you this and to everybody out there, like,
oh I played the game? Where did Bill Belichick play football?
Oh wait, where did Andy Reid play football? Oh?

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Wait, oh that's right, they didn't.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Oh okay, six three, nine Super bowls combined, so this
whole hey, listen. There are guys who played the game,
Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith, Magic Johnson, Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson,
Jerry Rice.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
They're all failed broadcasters.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Then there are guys who didn't play but can convey
the game. It's not if you played the games, it's
if you can convey the game.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Period.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
So oh, by the way, last time I checked Bob Costas,
al Michaels, Jim Well, Jim Nance did he was on golf,
But Bob Costas, al Michaels, the Brent Musburger. The list
goes on and on. Let's not go with the you
didn't play. It's such an old tired card. It's it's
like when all else doid oh did you play?

Speaker 4 (24:35):
No? I did.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
I wasn't lucky enough to play football at the University
of Miami where I went to school, basketball at the
University of Arkansas, where I would just go.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
I wasn't good enough to play there. Assume me, what
are you gonna do?

Speaker 2 (24:48):
I hate?

Speaker 4 (24:48):
I hate the day. So it's like, yeah, people choke.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
And just like Duke Duke choked US six point lead
with thirty five seconds to go, they.

Speaker 8 (24:56):
Choked from the two oh six guy, Travis MJ, how
much bread you make down there in Las Vegas?

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (25:03):
After Colin Morrikaua sucked.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Uh. Shecheffler did not come through. The Warriors killed me
on that three team parlay. I did win on Patty
Pimblett and the Rockets Lakers. I probably lost a little
bit more than win, but it wasn't enough to It
was just, oh man, how about this one kid two six?
Still on the bubble with MJ in the midday. But

(25:28):
I actually said a reminder so I could listen to
him eat crow about Rory winning the Masters, And I did, kid,
I did, kid? Did I not I even tell kid,
I said, not only gonna eat Crow. You grabbed that
sound of me eating crow and I forgot that. I
called him the Tony Romo of golf, which made me
feel even. But I not gonna be like a certain

(25:50):
guy that's from this state, that's hosted a national show
for the last twenty years, that only tells you when
he's right, when he's usually wrong.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
I'll admit when I'm wrong. I got no problem with that.

Speaker 8 (26:01):
This is from the three to six oh mark. It's cool.
You can bet on Okay, see all you want. You
already lost your Seattle card last week. Saying in and
out is way better than Dix laughing out loud.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Yeah yeah, Well, I'm just stating my opinion.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
Stating my opinion.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
If the ex Tennessee volunteer quarterback was any good, then
Dan Lanning would have paid him instead of ratting him out.
Don't make Oregon coach out to be a sing glad
the volunteers, Nino Brown, that ungrateful, greedy punk. Well here's
the thing. You know why Dan Lanning didn't didn't sign
him because he doesn't need them. He doesn't need him.
He's got a guy last name more out of Detroit.

(26:39):
Who's gonna be taking over for Dylan Gabriel. He doesn't
want an Eco, doesn't need him, but just one. I
thought it was a solid him letting Josh Hipel know that, Hey,
your quarterback is he's promoted, he's put himself on the
open market.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
You need to know about this. So the coaches now are.

Speaker 7 (26:56):
Gonna, oh, they're gonna kind of collaborate on it, because
Kirby Smart said, they asked him, they said, do you
want to be on this, uh sort of cattle call
of they got agencies combining all of their their talents,
their free agents, and Kirby's like, I don't even want
to go in there because I might see one of
my players.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
It's it's out of control, man. It's I'm I'm before,
I'm all about the player. Now I'm about I'm back
on the other side, I'm all about the program.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
Now, screw that.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
I want the players to get their money, but not
at the point of like they're yeah, no, not at
the point of basically where you become glorified hookers and prostitutes.

Speaker 4 (27:37):
That's what they are.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
You're you're basically pimping yourself out and Nico's like, oh no,
I'm not worth two and a half more. I'm worth
four million now, so I want more money. All right,
Let's see who gives it to. You see who's gonna
give you four million dollars?

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Nico? Uh, we'll wait.

Speaker 8 (27:52):
Last one for me.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
MJ.

Speaker 8 (27:53):
How are the ladies down in Vegas from the two
five to three?

Speaker 7 (27:55):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (27:56):
I mean Vegas is Vegas?

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Right?

Speaker 3 (27:57):
They're beautiful as always they were let's just say they
were as hot as the weather. Yeah, they were something,
they were something, but a well, I'll leave this two
five three. You're a Karen. You want the windows closed
by the window seat? Poor Mark was tired, do you

(28:18):
sleepy time? Why can't he look out the window if
he wants?

Speaker 2 (28:21):
It?

Speaker 4 (28:21):
Ain't all about you?

Speaker 2 (28:23):
No, I know.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
He did look out the window after we took off,
and I politely asked him, could you put the shade
down so I could sleep? He did it, and then
he turned it down. It is, and thank you for
the two oh six. The window guy is a d bag, period.
Just close the damn shade. Not difficult, I know, I know,
I'm gonna I'm gonna I lie one more. What makes

(28:44):
Seattle so different? In terms of thinking. Critical thinking is negative. No,
there is nothing different at all, and let's hope the
MS can keep it up, all right, Cross talk with
Ian Ferns coming up next right here on MJ in
the midday, ninety three to three, Kjarta, I want to

(29:06):
get one in here. We missed on the text line.
I told this guy, I get it. I agree with you, MJ.
I was so depressed last year after the best pitching
staff in baseball, maybe the best pitching staff I've ever seen.
I've been an MS fan since the beginning. It was
disheartening to not see us go by a batch so
I could finally go to a World Series. So yeah,

(29:29):
it's it is what it is.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
I don't know why I want.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
I want to ask you this Ian Ferness. Oh before
I forget, thanks to Steve Sands from the Golf Channel
NBC for coming on talking about RORA. I want to
ask you about the Masters and where it ranks in
your eyes before I do that. How brutal was it
for you, kid and everybody here who works in sports
media to have a Russell Wilson like press conference or

(29:55):
scrum just with everything just a stock answer?

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Yeah, okay, yeah was that or something.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
No, no, no, I was just I wanted to ask
because I remember I heard Softy one time talking like.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Was it must have been brutal.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Well you just like give you that that kind of
you know, we just gotta you know, we gotta take
one step at a time.

Speaker 9 (30:16):
So you had, Yeah, the problem with his Oh see,
you didn't get me going on this. So this guy,
this is, this is his thing. The thing I hated
what drove me nuts and guys that were covering the team,
especially on the road, was how long he took to
come out.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
Okay, Im Newton did that to us in Charlotte. It wash,
but you know it was miserable. Mark no Ian.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
You know what he would do, what Cam would do
after a win, like when I covered them in Atlanta
in a big regular season game in twenty thirteen where
they clinched the NFC South. He'll take an hour and
forty five minutes, so like he's coming out of a
GQ photo shoot. If they lose, he puts a hat
and a hoodie on, he'll be out there right away.

(31:00):
Russ was winter loose. Same what he would do, he
was and this mostly the road I got the road
on was you know, we had to wait. The buses
would be waiting, everyone would be waiting, and he would
take forever in a day and had to you know,
and then he'd have to before he went into the
like Pete would come out and do his thing right away,
ten minutes.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
Why the cooling off period.

Speaker 9 (31:20):
They'd bring one or two players into the podium boom
boom boom, and then everybody else can get in the
locker room. And locker room's empty, everyone's on the bus, equipment,
trucks loaded. We're waiting instead, we're waiting, wait and wait.
And then Russ would come out and he'd be, you know,
dressed in but before he went there, he'd have to
go say hi to the rockstar girlfriend, kiss the you know,
the kids, make sure people getting pictures and do all that,
and then then he'd come in and do his thing.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
It was just.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Brutal.

Speaker 9 (31:47):
And then he would just give you the same stuff.
And yeah, it was just it was insufferable. Man, Oh
my god, it was in suffering.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Yeah, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 9 (31:58):
Yeah, it was something he I've said million time. He changed, right,
he changed, he changed. Yeah, when you get CRS your
girlfriend it was your wife. He changed, he changed, yeah,
he was. He changed, it was, it went, it got
a lot different, and you know he tried to get
the coach and the GM fired. Like that's as simple
as that. Everyone's like, why did he get traded? That's
it's as simple. Went to Jody Allen and wanted to

(32:20):
get him fired, and along with other people in the organization,
you know, had his own nutritionists there didn't the teams
weren't good enough, things like that.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
See, I can tell you too, having experienced the final
three years of Tom Brady in New England with the Patriots,
he changed too, but he changed and he was winning.
There's a when you have like multiple.

Speaker 9 (32:40):
Rings and most of them are your rings, not not
because you had an elite defense and every running back
it was because you're Tom Brady.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
And Brady wasn't. It wasn't.

Speaker 9 (32:49):
So wasn't Bratdy the m v P every Super Bowl
except for when Dion Branch was right the Patriots. Yeah,
yeah that they want they want they won. Yeah, it
wasn't either MVP.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
I remember de Branch, the Branch the four Yeah, that
was the Dean brand, which was that that was a yeah,
we had they got experience that the Dean Branch experience
was fun too here.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
Yeah that I can imagine.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Uh so, but he live THK for like Brady, and
he finally was able to get Alex Guerrero. And then
Belichick pulled the power play and got Alex Guerrero off
the team plane, off the team boss, off the because
guys were going to Alex Guerrero for treatment. Yeah, and
and all of a sudden it was like, well they
were telling the Patriot train, so Belichick's like, you get
the f adi here, and then Brady was able to

(33:31):
get Carrero back.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (33:33):
It's just, uh, you know, some guys have the juice
and they've earned it, that's right, right, Like if you've
earned it, that's right, Like and going to the Hall
of Fame and you know you've earned it. Maybe because
you know, the whole thing about treating every player the
same is dumb. Like that's not the case, right, that
just isn't the case. But but I mean there was
I think you could make the argument that they don't

(33:54):
win the Super In fact, you listen, they don't win
the Super Bowl without Russ, Like they just don't like
as much like there were games because they had to
have home field advantage, they were dominant team at home,
and there were games that he won for them. I mean,
the guy was a clutch performer in fourth quarters and
final drives. He was as good as there was.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Russ was.

Speaker 9 (34:12):
So they don't win the Super Bowl? My my thing,
they don't. But really was he the main reason? No,
it was the guy's on the other side of the ball,
that the eleven dudes, the the lob and all that,
and you had an elite running back that set the.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
Tone every night.

Speaker 9 (34:25):
Yeah, I just that number twenty four set the set
the agenda. That guy was treated differently. Let's let's like,
there is no doubt Marshan was treated differently. And it
wasn't even by choice, right right, Like, I've never seen
a guy run the show like that dude did. And
you know what, well, he's he's that outfug dude, he's

(34:45):
he was the Yeah, he set the tone. Yeah, team Yeah,
I best trade ever, best trade ever?

Speaker 4 (34:52):
A bustlo what you think Molly today, we're Molly Woffen.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Okay, but Ian today I've been nothing but positive.

Speaker 9 (35:02):
I think that we might have make note of this.
We could have a positive mollywop Oh.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
I mean, like I gotta give credits, so like people
want me to come in since they ran out Jimmy's
on first or four and oh, I don't know, maybe
he took that, who knows. Yeah, maybe because I talked
to a couple of from his folk and I said,
the Mariners don't deserve you as fans. This was after
they were four and eight and it just was bad.
And you know, I gotta give credit.

Speaker 9 (35:29):
Five in one week, man, great week by them. Well
we'll molliwop and then'll check you with Bobby Casper about
the Masters.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Oh what was that one of your favorite?

Speaker 9 (35:36):
Probably the top one.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Yeah, wow yeah yeah.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
This Ebbs and the Flow is the motion that was great.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
And they were all brand names like Duke Houston, Auburn,
Florida too. You know, it was all brand named. All right,
Christopher Kid. Thanks thanks to Steve Sands. We will see
you tomorrow, same time, same channel, right here on your
home for the best NFL Draft coverage, the Huskies and
Crack and MJ in the mid day of ninety three
to three kJ R F M
