Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nine nights away, well nine days away, because I'm still
getting used to this being here over two and a
half months. I'm still Oh, by the way, one more clarification.
The winner tonight of Minnesota Memphis Golden State gets four
days of rest prep first round matchup versus Rockets in
Land on La, Minnesota side of bracket. Loser gets elimination

(00:22):
game Friday versus Dallas Sacramento winner. So the losers not
out tonight, but the winner is definitely in.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
So it's a lot of there's some moving parts there. Also.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I want to just state this again if you're just
tuning in right now to MJ in the midday. Mark
James here with you lie from the R and R
Broadcast Studios, brought to you by R and R Foundation specialist.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Thoughts and prayers out to.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
The Hasselbeck family, as Don Hasselbeck, the father of Matt
and Tim Hasselback, has passed away at the age of
seventy and Matt I can tell you personally, and Tim
I know what it's like. My father died at the
age of seventy as well, and he died yesterday of
cardiac arrest. He was a second round pick in the
seventy seven draft by the Patriots and played with the

(01:07):
Raiders in nineteen eighty three for the raiders last Super
Bowl victory over Joe thisman John Riggins in the Washington Redskins.
So very sad news thoughts in prayers with the Hasselbeck family.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Cannot overstate that enough.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Showing us right now on the Beacon Plumbing hot line
as we get ready. We are nine days away from
the NFL Draft. I forgot Chris that the draft here.
I'm normally used to its starting at seven thirty. It
will start at four thirty next Thursday. Oh my god,
I'm getting used to all this like the pw oh.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Ryan Roberts showing us right here NFL draft analysts on
MJ in the midday. So, Ryan, I'm gonna put you
right now. I'm gonna put you in John Schneider's position,
in his shoes. Literally, You've got the eighteenth pick in
the draft.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
What do you do?

Speaker 1 (01:59):
And you've got four of the top ninety two. But
before we get to the second and third round, I
want to know, Ryan Roberts, what do you do if
you're the Seahawks with the eighteenth pick, and next Thursday
nights draft.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, I mean it's a great question. Obviously, it's a
little depending on how the board falls, But like from
a just mock draft perspective, I feel like I've made
consistent picks with Seattle, and it's always been on the
offensive line, to be honest, right, I mean, I know
that there's a need it right tackle, and then there's
need potentially inside of guard as well. So I think
finding a player that can potentially play a couple of
different spots could be very advantageous for this team as well.

(02:35):
So I've been mocking guys like Kelvin Banks junior from Texas,
the offensive tackle who has some projectability inside of guard.
If you want to go for a more pure tackle type,
I think a guy like a Josh Simmons out of
Ohio State who might fall a little bit in this class,
but I think that he is the best, you know,
true pass blocking offensive tackle in this class as well.
So I really think it starts with the offensive line.
I know quarterback has settled at least for now. I

(02:55):
know that there's you know, hopefully a little bit of
a let's see what happens with Cooper Cup and you know,
Jackie Smith and Jig But you got some nice weapons
obviously out there for the quarterback. But making sure that
Sam Darnold is upright and is healthy and is ready
to go, I think that should obviously be the priority.
So I think offensive line is a big need there
at pick eighteen.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
All Right, Well, who Tyler Booker, Calvin Banks? What do
we give you? Yeah? Which? Which guy would you take?

Speaker 1 (03:19):
If let's just say everything falls John Schneider's way, Ryan,
and you've got your druthers, who would you take?

Speaker 2 (03:26):
And why?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Well, so in a vacuum, I would take Tyler Booker
if he was there, of the especially out of the
guys you just.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Saw over Calvin Banks.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Why so, I just think he's a better football player.
I mean, that's just kind of where I come down to.
But I also think that there's a chance that Tyler
Booker might be off the board. I know he's been
kind of all over the mock drafts as far as
like where his designation is in the first round, But
I would not be shocked if he ends up going
top fifteen because some teams that I've talked to, at
least some of you him as the best pure offensive.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Lineman in this class.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Now that's obviously heavily debatable whether it's an arm And
Membu or a Will Campbell. Then positional value is obviously
a part of the conversation as well, tackle over as guard.
But there's a lot of love around the league for
Tyler Booker. But if I had to pick a guy
for pure flexibility, I would probably go for Kelvin Banks
because Kelvin Banks is a guy that played mostly the
majority of his entire career actually at Texas at left tackle.

(04:17):
But he is a guy that I think is projectable
to Bill hanging right tackle. Potentially he could also play
inside of guard. He's definitely physical enough, he's got the
root strength, he's got the power profile just in general.
So if there's a guy that you want to try
to make sure that you fill multiple spots potentially depending
on helping shake up and getting the best five on
the field, I think Kelvin Banks is a very very
easy selection there at eighteen because I think at that

(04:38):
point you're probably talking about Membu being off the board,
You're talking about Will Campbell being off the board. We'll
see what other other spots kind of fill out from
out there. But I do think that Kelvin Banks presents
value and flexibility upfront that I think the Seahawks need
right now on the offensive line.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Ryan Robert, CENTFL draft analyst here on MJ in the
midday on Seattle Sports Leader ninety three to three KJRFM.
Let me throw a name out there at you, Ryan,
what do you think of this guy? Gray's Abel from
North Dakota State? Would that be a reach at eighteen?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
So for me it would be a breach And I
like Gray, I just I just think that eighteen is
just a little too rich for my blog. I think
he'll be a solid starter at least that guard in
the NFL. But I will say for the NFL, I
don't think it's a massive reach like I've heard like
Tampa Bay at nineteen has some interest, even though that's
kind of a funky one because Offen Bunny isn't a
massively but I've heard that they like him a lot.

(05:27):
I've heard that several teams in that like teams area,
are at least enamored slightly with a Gray Zabel. So
from a predictive perspective, I don't think it's too rich
because I think that's right around the spot that he
might end up going he might last until the twenties,
but if he gets selected in the eighteens, I would
not be shocked one little bit. So there's a lot
of love for Gray table around the NFL. I do
think that that's just a pinch high for me personally.

(05:50):
But if you're just if you want to guarantee I
get a high floor player, a guy that I know
is at least gonna be a solid starter, I think
that Zable obviously brings that floor to the table.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, I'm with you, and I listen.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I think also, I remember when the Patriots were going
through they had just won three out of four Super Bowls,
and I remember, I think it was like the five draft.
They took a guy by the name of Logan Mankins
and everyone's like, who the.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Bleep is that great? Right?

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Fresno State? And what did he end up becoming a stud?
And that's what all pro Absolutely so that's what you
gotta do. So let's say Tyler Booker's the pick, like
one of those at eighteen, Tyler Booker Kelvin Banks. You
can't go wrong with either, But you like Tyler Booker better.
You're not the first person I've heard say that I'm
intrigued by that. But let's just say that's the pick.
Let's go to the second round. There, you're sitting there

(06:38):
with the fiftieth and fifty second pick is. Now, do
you stay there, Ryan Roberts, if you're John Schneider and
pick as is, or do you try maybe to package
that and move up late in the first round and
get another first round pick.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I would rather keep the Day two capital personally, because
I think that the bowl of the strength of this class,
because I think I think this because has been a
little bit unfairly labeled to a degree. Right, It's it's
not a top heavy class. It's not there. I mean,
most teams have between like nine and eleven true first
round grades in this class. So like, this is not
a class that you necessarily want to be picking pick

(07:17):
twelve for instance, right, Like it's not like that's like
a draft. But I do think that there's a pretty
heavy bulk of guys that are within that Day two conversation, right,
second of third round grades. And then also I think
some of those third round grades are going to streamline
onto Day three as well, So I think there's gonna
be some potential values especially early in the fourth round
as well. So I think I would personally rather have

(07:38):
majority or as many picks within that thirty three to
one oh two range as I possibly can, because I
think that that is actually where the true value is.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Okay, fair enough, and and I don't hate that a lot.
And I'm hoping that maybe some way, somehow, you know, listen,
you can never believe what you see, but you see
these hypothetical scenarios, Ryan, where yeah, what if what if
the Seahawks excuse mean, the Steelers at twenty one are
getting a little antsy and Seattle has you know, John

(08:11):
Schneider gets a call from I don't know, the Arizona
Cardinals or whatever and says, hey, we'd like to move
up and maybe we thinking about hedging and taking a
quarterback or whatever, and you could trade and get trade
that pick and maybe pick up an extra second or
third round pick in this draft too.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
So that in lies the capitol.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
How much pressure when you look at this draft, Ryan Roberts,
is it for John Schneider to hit on all of
his high picks, but specifically every O lineman.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
I mean it's huge. I mean I was looking at
the depth chart the projected depth chart on our lives
before I got on here, and it's just I mean, obviously,
Charles Cross is very talented, which is why he was
a first round pick a few years ago. But like
I know, Abraham Lucas has been banged up constantly. I
know that that the interior offensive line could be definitely
they could be definitely upgraded in a spot or to

(09:05):
you there. And more than anything though, it's whether it
is the right decision or not. And I know there's
been a lot of back and forth about like this
Sam Donald contract and Sam Donald just being the guy
in Seattle just in general, and you know, you know,
trading away Gino and whatever, like I'm sure that you
have been talking about that constantly. But you are in
a part of a ten year under their head coach

(09:26):
where it's like, hey, Sam Donald's your guy now, for
better or for worse. For the immediacy here. And we
have seen though Sam Donald when he's fully protected and
he's comfortable, like he is a pretty good quarterback for
the most part, at least he was last year. But
when when chaos happens and he's not predicted well, And
this is a running trend going back to obviously his

(09:48):
Jets days and you know, uh San Francisco days and
whenever he's had opportunities Carolina days. He is a just
not a good quarterback, and every quarterback is less effective
under pressure than the are not being pressured. But he's
a guy that we have seen when pressure happens, usually.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
He falls off a cliff.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
So I really think that that, I mean because wide
receiver wise, like you have Cooper Cup, you have Jackson
Smith and Jig, but you have some receivers that you
can you know, you're excited about. But I really think
that if he's not protected well, that this could be
a rough showing offensively, because Sam Donald can be good
when protected well, but when he's not, he's not very good.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Obviously.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Ryan Roberts, NFL drafts analysts here on MJ in the midday, Ryan,
I want to go back real quick to the eighteen pick.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Now.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
I like what you're where you're going, and I don't
think it's an overdraft with Booker or Banks. Let's just say,
let's just play hypothetical scenario. Okay, let's say Booker and
Banks are both off the board, and I'm going to
give you four guys there with the eighteenth pick. Let's
say Walter Noltlan, the defensive tackle stud out of Ole

(10:53):
misses there. Let's say Schamar Stewart from Texas, A and
m another d lineman is there, and of course uh
tetoa is that he had pronounce his name McMillan from
what from Arizona? Is that?

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Did I get that?

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Row? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Okay yea?

Speaker 1 (11:06):
And Colston Lovelin the tight end out of Michigan. If
you're John Schneider, which one of those four would you take?

Speaker 2 (11:15):
A man?

Speaker 3 (11:16):
That is a That's a great question. I've never been
I've never had a question frame like that for Seattle,
So that's very interesting. My impulse is, although Walter Nolan's
very talented, Seattle obviously has invested on the interior defensive
line pretty recently with like a Byron Murphy for instance. Right,
So I think I think that you want to make
a I think you want to make a different position
of potential strength. I'm actually, man, it's funny because he's

(11:39):
not necessarily the highest rated of the four, but I
just like, in my mind now it's just the potential
of it is just kind of running wild. And that's
Colston Loveland's at the tight end out of Michigan. I
wouldn't necessarily say he'd be the highest rated prospect of
the four for me, but looking at this team and
looking at the wide receivers that we talked about, they're
they're good Playersbviously, Cooper Cup, you know, does a lot

(12:01):
of great things from the slots, and Jack Smith and
jag Bido is coming off with a really good year.
But I really think that Colston Lovelin, with the size
that he brings to the table, it's just a little
bit of a different pass catcher. Obviously, obviously he plays
a different position, but like just as a pass game weapon,
I really love the opportunity to get him matched up
against linebackers, against safeties. He could play out the suat
little bit too, but he's also atholic enough where if

(12:22):
you want to throw into the boundary and it's in
like three by one set, like he can win obviously
against certain corners and safeties in the NFL. So I
really like the I really liked the potential there for
him as a versatile piece. I don't think teder Rond
McMillan's a bad option either, because he does bring that
same size profile. I'm just thinking about all the different
possibilities I can use loveling in and being kind of
a mismatch weapon. You can line him up in line,

(12:43):
you can line him up as an eighth, you can
motion them all over the place, you can play them
in different wide receiver spots. I think that that mismatched
potential was really fun to opportunity at eighteen potentially, And
I hadn't really even thought about him until now, to
be honest with.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
You, Well, and there lives as well.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
I love having these conversations Ryan Roberts, NFL draft analysts,
and now the likelihood of Loveland being there probably not great,
probably less than forty percent. But you never know how
things break, and you know certain teams. Can you know
who had the Atlanta Falcons taken Pennix after giving one
hundred plus million dollars to Kirk Cousins last year? Who

(13:17):
had them taking Pennix with the eighth pick. You never
know what's gonna happen in the draft and on draft night.
But to me, you saw how like you said, Darnold
with Jefferson Addison and also TJ. Hockinson, we don't there's
no tight end here.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
We don't.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
There's no tight end in Seattle. They need a tight
end desperately, and if Loveland is there, to me, I'm
if he's there after I believe, let's see here at seventeen,
where the uh, the uh Cincinnati Bengals are making their pick.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
I get.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
I just hand the commission of the card say don't
go anywhere here you go right.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
I mean I like to fit a lot. I think
whether he's there or not, I think he's gonna be
very dependent on how high Tyler Warren ghos, because I mean,
we're seeing some people as high as number five to Jacksonville.
I've seen the New York Jets at seven, a spot
for Tyler Warren. I don't think Tyler Warren gets I
think the absolute latest Tyler Warren goes is probably fourteen
to Indianapolis, Like the absolute latest, like that's just four.
So I think it's somewhere between seven and fourteen is

(14:16):
his realistic option. After that, it's going to be very
dependent on you know, gett an offensive line run start earlier,
then a defensive line run start earlier to whether A
Loveland's going to be there. But he's a very different
player than like comparatively to Tyler Warren, but again in
this offense potential because I mean, I'll say this, even
though the offensive line needs a lot of retooling, it
is set up for success for San Darno as far

(14:38):
as like getting the ball out of your hands quickly right,
Like you're talking about quick separators in Jackson Smith and
Jig then Cooper Cup like those guys don't need a
big runway to create separation with their route running and
their bility in short spaces, So that's a plus. And
I think adding a guy like Colost lovelin similar ideology
but a different body type obviously.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yeah, I just did anticipate him possibly being there. Where
do you grade?

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Oh, by the way, before we actually get there, I
don't want to put carp before the horse there. But
let's go to the Seahawks in the second round right now,
fifty and fifty two right there on the board. Who
do you anticipate being available and where do you possibly
think that Schneider could pull the trigger?

Speaker 3 (15:17):
Yeah, I mean I think corner is a possibility. I
know Serik Willen was great a couple of years ago.
I know he was a little bit of a down year,
but I think really a cornerback could be on the table.
I would imagine, even though some people were thought that
this would be just not even a possibility. But like
a guy like a Benjamin Morrison from Notre Dame could
potentially be in that range due to the hip injury

(15:38):
he suffered during the season and the surgery that he
had and you know, just kind of a little bit
of I don't want to call it damage goods, but
like he's coming back from injury and he needs to
be able to get himself back to full health and
he's just not quite there yet. So a guy like
a Benjamin Morrison I think makes a whole lot of sense.
It's not unrealistic that even a shabon ravel out of
ECU suffers a little bit of a fall, So he
could be potentially in that range. So there's gonna be

(16:00):
some really good corners I think in that range, especially,
and getting a guy to pair with the Tarik wol
And I think is an interesting thing, uh, you know,
for this defense, especially, so that that would be a
spot that I that I kind of look at if
they don't go tight end in the first in the
first and they want to go and tight end in
the you know, in the second or even further down
the board a little bit. I think that because if

(16:23):
your offense line in the first round, I think that
guys like Elijah Royo Miami, if if you like that type, right,
like who who's the who's the third or fourth tight
end on off the off? The board this year is
going to be very dependent on what style you're looking
for because there's a few guys that are closely rated together.
Mason Taylor out of LSU, who's Jason Taylor's son, is
obviously more of your bigger body. He's a good route runner.

(16:45):
He's more of like your intermediate separator. Elijah Royo is
like that new brand of West Coast tight end who
you just want to get the ball to him in
space off the slides, you know, get you know, drags
like it, mesh routes, like you just want to get
the ball to him and let him kind of work
a little bit, you know, do you want to wait
a little bit longer, go for like a Gunner Helm
from Texas, Like there's a really it's a really good
tight end class. So that's why it's very interesting if

(17:06):
if Seattle doesn't get a coach and levelin or someone
in that in that vein and the go offensive line.
There are some intriguing options, especially when that fifty to
you know, fifty ish range. Some you know, give or
take ten or fifteen picks. So I think tight ends.
I think corner both of them present value.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
That's not especially I want to throw one name at
to you, Tate Ratledge, a guard out of Georgia. Would
that be a pick that you could take with the
fiftieth or fifty second pick right there?

Speaker 3 (17:30):
I would be totally okay with it. And I think
that's about the range for Tate. I would say somewhere
between fifty and seventy five is probably where he most
likely goes off the board. He's he is big, physical,
and he plays with a lot of bad intent. Again
coming into the season, I mean some people had him
in like late first rounds, early second round conversation. He
was banged up a lot of Georgia this past year,
so he's kind of dealing with some stuff. But he

(17:51):
is six or six, he's three or fifteen plus pounds.
He moves well for his size as well. I think
he's going to get coined as a just a lawler.
But like pretty good foot quickness as well, and when
he's healthy, he's a pretty good player, and he I
think he'll at least be a solid starting guard in
the NFL. But I think he does have plus starter upside.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Real quick if you can less than thirty seconds on
each Where do you grade should door Sanders as a prospect?
Not where he's going to be picked on your big board?

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Yeah, I haven't. I have him with a late second
early third round grade. I think I'm kind of in
the middle ground.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
By the way.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Listen, I could see listen, we got our QB one,
Hugh Millan, who's with you on that that you're You're
like like Matt Miller ESPN.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Who you know he's got him at twenty fifth. You
got him at late second? Really yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Yeah, and and and stacking up the big board obviously
I'm talking about I'm talking about a great in a vacuum, right, So,
like every single year, this is where this guy would be,
late second, early thirty. I think he's so quarterback too
in this clast because he's not a good quarterback class.
But the lack of just tools does worry me a
little bit, right, His ability to drive the football play
outside of structure. I know he's a smart kid. I
know he's good on the white board. I know all

(18:58):
those things are true, and he be a good player
in a certain situation. But I do have some reservations
drafting him a little bit too early, to be honest with.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
You, all right, last one here, why do I not
see the name anywhere? Ryan Roberts of quinn Ewers.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Well, he is he gonna be like a mid round pick.
What's going on?

Speaker 3 (19:18):
So I think there's a chance he goes back in
the top top of Day two, like somewhere in like
the late third round. But I think there's a real
possiblity's a fourth to fifth rounder in this class. It's
just he was once built as a high, high upside
kid because of arm talent. I just think that the
body has gotten beat up so much the last couple
of years. Man, He's dealt with so many injuries. Every

(19:38):
time I watch him now, the ball flatters a little bit,
doesn't have the same velocity. He's a little bit of
a lighter frame, dude. Just in general, his pocket awareness
and maneuverability isn't the best either. So unfortunately, I think
his body has just kind of been through the wringer
has to this point. So what it was his best traits,
you know, a snap off the ball and throw from
multiple arm angles. Like I just don't think that he
quit has the same arm town get a couple of

(20:00):
years ago. Maybe it's just because he's dealing with injuries
this past year, but the ball just seemed to flutter
and float on him. Man, So I think fourth and
fifth round is probably the most lightly desigationd right now,
but it's always possible a team more, you know, does
a back end a top one hundred pick on him.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
We'll see what happened, you know, big big mistake ryan
out of him.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
He had another year of eligibility remaining, and I believe
he could have got at least four million dollars on
the open n Il market had he transferred to another school,
but he didn't want to do it, and.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
I think that was a big mistake.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Well, well, I'll give you a little bit. Like so
for people that I talked to on like the college
side of things, four mill is is tentatives, like he
probably could have gotten six season amount more. I mean,
like it's it's it's a reality. I mean, he was
a he was a he was a guy that people
wanted a lot, and it wasn't a great quarterback, no interportal,
just in general. So I think he could have cleaned

(20:51):
up on the open market. And I honestually thought for
a little while that he was going to clean up
on the open market, but obviously decided to go to
the NFL and we'll see how it works out long term.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Hey, Ryan, we've had a lot of draft analysts on
this show so far. You were the best by far
and away, and and the people on on the national
level need to to follow Ryan Roberts. Ryan, I'm gonna
get your Twitter handle here real quick. Go ahead and
give that out to the fine folks in Seattle.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Yep, yep. It's at Rise and Draft, Rise the letter
end draft if she can make Rise and Draft. And
I appreciate the compliment there, I really do. There's a
lot of great draft analysts out there, so I appreciate
the yeah yeah, but you yeah compliment.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
You brought it, man, you brought it big time.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
We want to talk to you again before next Thursday, okay,
and then we want to talk to you after the
draft is all over, because I want you You brought
it man, you brought it as if you were living
in Seattle.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Man, I love it. Thanks a lot, Ryan for the time.
We got to talk to you again next week. Sounds good, guys,
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
You got it, Ryan Roberts. Follow him on Twitter. Rise
the Letter n Draft, Rise end Draft. Follow him on Twitter.
Oh boy, cannot wait for the NFL Draft. It's the
holy matrimony of college football and National Football League. It's awesome.
Every team is you know, it's all thirty two teams.
I think one of my best memories is going to

(22:06):
my first draft in two thousand and then in two
thousand and one, I was at the Michael Vick Draft
in New York City at Madison Square Garden and it's
just all thirty two teams, thirty two fan bases are there,
and everybody's like, oh, this is this is the foundation
of a team, that this is gonna build us forever.
And you never know what's gonna happen. All right, what
do you say? Text of the day? Four nine four

(22:27):
five one. Keep voting on that pole that we put
up there. What's worse the stupid one day Dog and
Pony contract retirement, Dog and Pony contract or Shador Sanders
being thirteen and twelve having his number retired.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Keep voting on that poll.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Will update that next on MJ in the midday ninety
three to three KJRFMO. Also want to mention today happy
National Jackie Robinson Day. He broke the color barrier major
League Baseball, and much later than it should have been,

(23:04):
but it's Jackie Robinson Day.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Forty two.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Nike's offering their a special version of the Jackie Robinson
Cortes sneakers which looked pretty cool. And on the left
sneaker is the number four, on the back of the
left sneaker is number four, and the back of the
right sneaker is number two. So it's for forty two.
That's pretty cool. Thanks again, Ryan Roberts for joining us.
I thought he really he really brought it with the

(23:29):
Seahawks being on the clock, All right, kid, let's lead
us off today on the text line.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Sorry about that.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
This first one is from the two oh six where
are the Sonics question mark? I think we all have
that same question.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
I don't know, I mean I was in Vegas and
everyone's waiting for them to get the team there, you know,
and yeah, so it's uh, it is what it is.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
But you know, I I don't know. I mean, I'm
wearing on the NBA. We're all we're all just waiting
on the NBA.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Right, yes, all right, Uh this a lot of people
are texting in, so I'm gonna make it this as
sort of a composite tax. It's not just from one person,
just says Cordell Stewart doesn't have his number retired. He
won two Bowl games and finished in the top ten twice,
but he wasn't the coach's son. Colorado is an un
serious program. So yeah, I mean, it's it. My thing is,

(24:35):
is it just happened? So like you're retiring numbers of
guys who just played there a few months ago. It
usually takes years and years, and sometimes even then it's
I'm like, I'm still shocked at Florida has not retired
Tim Tebow's jersey. If there's anybody's jersey deserve to be retired,
it's Tim Tebow.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
But it is what it is.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
This one is from the two five three kJ Wright.
A lot of Hawk fans were very happy when you
returned to retire a Seahawk.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Okay, all right, I mean it's that's fair. I mean,
everybody's different.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
It's just I think when it comes to the brand
name guys like the big, big, potential future Hall of Famers,
that's where I just have an issue. It's just beneath
those guys. kJ Wright was good, but he's not a
future Hall of Famer. So for him, I don't have
as much of a problem with it because he was
just a guy that the you know, the fans really
loved and you know that made him feel special, and.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
You know, it's it's the brand. It's the big, big
stars that I.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
Have and consider hall of Famer.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Yeah, possible, and he did it. But listen, I mean,
it's it's fine. I don't I don't know why he
shouldn't have done it, but in my opinion, but it
is what it is. So all right, let's go to
Jim on the four two five. If anyone else was
coaching the buff, she duror win sniff any of this.
He's a big fish in a small pond. In reference

(25:59):
to the history, this is from the three six Oh
how question U? This is from Mark, serious question for you?

Speaker 4 (26:13):
How bad would the you have lost to udub in
ninety one if they got a chance to play I'd
love to hear you and Mario Bailey discuss.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Well.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
I know that that team, I mean, Washington was unbelievable
that season, but I know we were as well. And
I mean, I don't know who would have defended Lamar Thomas,
Horace Copeland, Randall Hill was not on that team.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
But we were just loaded. The team was just it
was we were. We had just won.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
I believe it was our third national title in a
span of six years. It would been great to see.
We'll never know, you know what, well, we will never
never know from the two five to three if they
would retire all those great players numbers and there wouldn't
be any numbers left.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Now that's I said. It's it's true.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
It's some schools you just can't USC being one of
them that if USC retired Marcus Allen, O J. Simpson,
Reggie Bush, Matt Leightard. I mean, they have so many
great players that came through there. You just.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
From the four to two five Sanders Jersey thing doesn't
bother me. I just think it's meaningless joke, kind of
a slap in the faith of Travis Hunter. Is like
saying they're both on the same level, which they are.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Not all right?

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Uh? From the three one three, that's Detroit area code.
I recognize that aria code. Sedur Sanders was one in
seven against top twenty five teams. Is one win against
a TCU team that went five of seven loads of talent.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
But dot dot dot. Oh, I knew he was bad
against top twenty five teams. I didn't know was one
in seven. His next one is from the two five
to three.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Dart is Zach Wilson could be, could be, but I
don't think he's as soft as Zach Wilson.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Zach Wilson was shar ultra Sharman soft.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
And if you look at the draft night, you got
to go back to the red carpet, go to YouTube
and look at Zach Wilson red carpet NFL Draft and
that's when you knew he was gonna be a bust.
It was like he was in between all the stars
around him and it was just very he felt very uncomfortable.
And I mean, you'll know what I mean when you

(28:22):
see it. Just watch that video you'll know what I mean.
From the four two five, bro, how is Shader getting retired?
And Cordel Stewart is and Cordell better numbers beat a
top rank Michigan team. Shader getting his jersey retired is
like the EQC retiring Mark James sports betting record.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Thank me later. Ah, that's funny. I love when you
take shots at me.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
This next one is from the two oh six. So
Marcus Ken Griffy a Mariner in your review.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Well, he came back.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
He came back and played for the team at the
end of his career, did he not? Drig Junior came
He actually played for the team, So that's that. There's
no problem with that. Him and Scottie Pippen actually went
back and played for their original team. So I don't
have any problem with Griffy. He did come back each row,

(29:15):
you know. I mean, I don't think each row came
back and did the one day dog and pony contract,
did he? I don't think he did. Griffy played for
the Mariners, so you know. Uh, hey, I love reading
negative ones. Let me read another one. KGr overreached you
when they chose MJ in the ten to one slot. Okay, hey, four,

(29:39):
two five, you're listening. Thank you, Thank you for listening. Ah,
I'm winning because you're listening, So thank you. But yes,
you're text again, but thank you for listening.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Last one for me is from our guy Marcus. The
team regarding the Mariners that you're seeing is the real
team that hit a few home runs, but for the
most part, they're playing the type of baseball team that
played eighty one game that team that will should be playing.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
So it's also sustainable, all right. Last one for me
four two five, Thank you MJ. Washington State lawmakers are
complete as clowns. Forty four minute trip commute to a
casino to put something on the books. Fortunately, today it's
a beautiful day for a drive. Yeah, I'm gonna be
headed over there too, money line on the Magic and Warriors,

(30:25):
and then I'm gonna do a parlay on those two teams,
and then I'm gonna do another parlay on Magic.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Warriors in the over on Warriors Grizzlies. Those are the
what do you say?

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Text of the day? Boy, it'd be nice to get
this segment sponsored. Oh, it would be great. Oh be
great to do that. That would be fantastic to where
we could and maybe even have a gift card to
do it, give away a gift card to the what
do you say Text of the day? Yeah, I think
Kuiper's lost his marbles too. For everybody talking about it.

(30:57):
He has n't been competent, relevant in over a decade,
and he are a few to admit when it's saying, oh,
let me tell you this about mel Kuiper.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
You ready for this one? Fifteen years ago? Kill the music.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
This is where I lost a lot of respect for
Mel Kuiper. Fifteen years ago. You know, mel Kuiper said,
Chris will play this on when we come back. I'm
paraphrasing here. Look YouTube, mel Kiper, Jimmy Clawson, and mel
Kiper came out and said, if Jimmy Clawson isn't a boom,

(31:27):
isn't a star in the NFL, I will retire. He
was a complete bust and mel didn't retire, so he
didn't put his money where his mouth is. Do you
see that there on YouTube? Can we play that? There's
no swears? I trust me on that one. There are
no swears. This is where I lost This was fifteen

(31:50):
years ago on Mel Kuiper.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
You see anything happening at make Alex Smitt this what thirty?

Speaker 2 (31:58):
I see Andy Reid sitting down there, Alex Man, this
is not it. I've done Okay, no problem, we'll get it.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
On the other side, Kuyper said he would retire if
Jimmy Clausen was a bust. He was a huge bust
and he didn't retire. We'll get to that and cross
talk with the mayor of Maple Valley. Coming up next,
the Carolina Panthers, selickt Jimmy Clawson.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Now you know what this is down in the dump team.
They're brickrolling me.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
Man, None of these are it.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
I love it?

Speaker 1 (32:35):
All right, we'll come back final segment next. And just
for the record, I'm not going to get into a
uh back and forth about the ninety one Miami Hurricanes
and ninety one Washington Huskies.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
I'll just say this, Miami was on a run from.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Nineteen eighty five through nineteen I need to where we
were in the National Championship pitcher every year. It wasn't
just a one shot deal. It was every year for
about eight straight years. And I'll leave it at that.
But but that Washington team was phenomenal. Hobert Brunel, I
know they were. They were awesome. And then how is

(33:18):
that men's number not retired? I have no idea who
Washington's retired they retired like four players. They haven't retired
anyone since like World War Two.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Bob Chulerette, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
Hey, I got to ask you, would you if you
were Colorado alum, would you like them retired Shuter Sanders number.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
No, it's the dumbest thing in the world. I know,
I know, it's so stupid.

Speaker 5 (33:44):
I get you could probably make an argument for Travis Hunter,
but no doubt, no doubt, but not now right? Ian Ian,
Tim Tebow's number isn't retired.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Well, you go through it.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
There's a million, there's a million guys out there. Christian later, yeah, yeah,
I I every school does things different, true, but it's
obvious that the school isn't making these decisions.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
The school is not running and it's de on. But whatever.
I you know, it's remarkable to me.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
It saw Softy texted me yesterday during his show, and
I'm like, what's going on? Hegaues, what's worse, Brownie in
the NBA or Colorado retiring shooters number? And I actually
sided with I actually got Schador's back on that. I said, no, no, no,
I don't have a problem with them retiring. Probably should
not be in the n B A I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (34:28):
No, well no, I mean didn't start in college. Is
his only only year there, and when he did play
was a non factor. I mean he was you know,
I mean it's but the things, I mean, it's just
it's we all know.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
It's just deon. It's just it's like, you want to,
you want to you want to do that?

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Man?

Speaker 5 (34:44):
Fine, I mean that's up to Colorado. A lumps to
get pissed off about it and say, in fact, I
just think it's up to to me. It would be
up to the athletic department. That's you know, when numbers
are retired, usually it's up to a group of people,
not one, you think, unless they're just trying to appease
him because they want to keep him there. Yeah, you know,
and maybe they're trying to like, hey, we want we
don't want you to leave.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Whatever it might be. Yeah, that could be it.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
But well remember what Dan Lanning said, they're in it
for the clicks. Yes, that's it, and he's right. Yeah,
at Colorado State had the great it was barstool. Colorado
State said thirteen and twelve conference thirteen twelve rec starting
quarterback record, zero conference championships, ninety three YouTube videos.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
That's it. So he's retired. But Travis Undron on an
issue with It's just like you said, he just he
stopped playing like four and a half months ago. We
have the three months ago.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
We have the all time leading passer in PAC twelve
history coming on the show tomorrow, and his number's not retired.
I can tell you that because he was just standing
this weekend at the Wazoo spring game with the guy
wearing his number now in Zebbie k House, who's going
to be Wazoo starting quarterback next fall, Luke falk Is
the All conference. Yeah, has like a ton of passing
records in the conference that will never be broken because well,

(35:55):
I guess maybe technically, I don't know if they're going
to keep the old the old records or not when
they start the new conference next year. But but you know,
you look through there, I mean guys like Carson Palmer,
Jake Browning who led Washington into a playoff here.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
You know, he he's like in the top five. Ye
I mean all these.

Speaker 5 (36:11):
Guys that are you know, just like it's just whatever,
it's I that's the stuff that like, I know, the
Seahawks when they retire in number it's a big deal, right, Well,
and it's really hard because what they've done is like
Bobby Wagner won't get his number retired even though he's
a first ballot Hall of Famer, has more First team

(36:35):
All Pros and all but two middle linebackers in the
history of the game.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
I mean his resumes. He's like Buckus and r Lacker.

Speaker 5 (36:40):
Maybe I think it was it was Butkus and ray
Lewis and ray Lewis or something like that, but anyway, there's.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
Only two guys.

Speaker 5 (36:47):
But anyway, he won't because he played for a different team,
like the Seahawks. Criteria it's not like official official, but
I've been told what it is. You have to be
a Hall of Famer and you have to have only
played for Seattles. So like Blargin, that's it.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
Well and Largent, that was a.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
Big deal because Jerry Rice was given his number for
the one brief time he was here allegedly with Lars
with Largein's approval, which probably didn't actually didn't, I don't
think actually happened. But no, I think you know, I
mean it's Walter Jones seventy one, Cortes Largin, Yeah, thanks
for coming. Wow, it's crazy. What's coming up on the

(37:21):
InferNET show jam Packed Wednesa until we'll get through the
draft for Jammed on Wednesdays or Tuesdays for sure. Joe
Shean's gonna join us off the top of the show.
Our baseball guy like hitting is down, like he wrote
a great story like the marriage. Aren't the only team
struggling to hit? I know they got the win, the
sweep and stuff. We'll talk about that with him. Steve
pelo Zola talking defensive lineman at one thirty for the Draft,
Our Weekly Visit with Steve and then John Loun's Weekly

(37:43):
Visit two o'clock business show.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Sounds good.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Stay tuned for the Mayor of Maple Valley Ian Ferness
coming up next, Thank you very much. Christopher Kidd and
Daniel Kramer joining us and Ryan Roberts check him out.
