Speaker 1 (00:00):
About how sports talkos who get paid to talk in
front of the microphone didn't like the fact that the
Bills didn't take a receiver. It's like, well, we had
the league's greatest offense and like, but then you lost,
you didn't make it to the super Bowl again, and
you neglect a wide receiver position through six rounds of
(00:22):
the draft. I don't blame those guys for being upset
about it at all. Nonetheless, I am not upset about
the Seahawks draft. Not upset. Jalen Milroll have my questions.
He can't throw accurately. He only threw five touchdowns in
the SEC games last year, five touchdowns, ten interceptions. So
(00:44):
he was on with our afternoon show Softy in Dick yesterday,
and what about you as a passer, Jalen.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Honest, that goes for any quarterback. You all got to improve.
So I'm not necessarily you know, motivated or worried about
outside noise. I know it makes me unique. Mom. Do
know that of the quarterbacks of this past draft, I
was winning winning his quarterback in the draft. So and
it comes from off every phase on the p offives.
I'm not really necessarily focus on your comment.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
OOO oooo at the end here your comment, Oh speaking
of a little touchy ooh, a little ultra sensitive there.
Oh No, I don't know who asked the question. I
don't remember if it was Softy or it was Softy
Softi's question was actually valid. I nicknamed him can't throw
(01:41):
mill Row because he can't throw accurately. Great athlete, strong
as heck, can't throw accurately. That's it. Five touchdowns in
the SEC last year in SEC games, five touchdowns, ten interceptions.
I mean, man losing to a trash Oklahoma team who
(02:04):
had nothing to play for but pride. They scored three
points that game three, I mean, Jalen, it's not a comment.
It's not a comment when it's the truth. All right,
how about year one? How can you help the Seahawks
in year one? And what about your role?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
My biggest thing is earning the trust and respect that
all the guys in the locker room as a rookie.
That number one. Especially learning as well with the guys
that I have in my room. You know, there's a
lot of knowledge is knowledge I do not have that
those guys have. And also learning from coach McDonald because McDonald,
because he has he's deecause of minded that's gonna only
help me as a quarterback. And so ultimately that's the
(02:46):
biggest thing coming in early on, and of course, you know,
doing what the team needs so that we're going in
and put our best report when it comes to competing against
other teams. So that's why we we have enough time
from now into September when we had our first game,
say thing for me, just under trust and then keep
going to building another player.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
All Right, all right, you have strengths and weaknesses, but
what makes you unique.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
There's nothing on the field I can't do the things
I can improve on absolutely, and so I'm not one
dimension when to come to the field. Attacking the running
game and the passing game. It's something I utilized the
whole time I was in college, you know, improving you know,
of course, you know you coming into the league as
a rookie and so knowledge bass in the room. You know,
you got to cut up the scale to with the
guys in the room, and so overall is that, and
(03:34):
then they're coming in just refining everything in my skill set,
running game, passing game, everything as a whole, so that
I'm putt my best way forward when it comes to
leading the guys when I had reps in practice and
then otimately in the game.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
All Right, any guy he played for Nick Saban, he
played for Kaitlin Debor, so he knows what it's like
to play for great coaches and coaches that will push him.
So that's that's what you like to hear. Listen, he knows,
and Softy and Dick are just doing their jobs. That's
what sports talk hosts do. We're not here to This
(04:07):
isn't the you know, the media relations department. I mean
they already have one of those. We're here to ask
the questions about. All right, I mean five touchdowns in
the SEC play, I mean that's pathetic. Nico had more
than that, a lot more than that. You know, that's
a that was a red shirt freshman. So let's see.
(04:28):
Let's see. I will say this, of all the quarterbacks
in the draft for the Seattle Seahawks and what they're
trying to do, I would have put Jalen Milroe up
there probably as the guy who is the best fit
here in Seattle. So from that standpoint, I see where
(04:50):
they were going because he gives you so many different
dimensions on third and short goal line, situations you want to,
you know, take he's tasted some phill really right now,
he's Taysom Hill. But he's a backup and he's gonna
be third string behind Darnold and Drew Locke. That's just
the way it is. He's third string. But he'll work
(05:11):
his way up and hopefully he'll be able to find
a way to be more accurate. I mean, listen as
much as you know I've said, and you've heard my
piece and my rants on Shauduur Shaudu has a nice touch.
He can throw it in there.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Now.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
I don't like his passes to the sideline because he
lobs them. Those things need to come on a rope,
not like they're up there forever like it's you're flying
a kite, right, So that's what Shador did. But Shador,
you know, he has a smooth touch with the ball.
Jaylen Milroe, I mean, go listen to Paul Feinbaum Show
(05:54):
if you care to do that sort of thing, and
listen to Alabama fans and tell you what they think
about Jalen Milroe. He's the worst quarterback they've had since
Nick Saban won their first national title. That's what they
will tell you. Mac Jones won a national title. Who's oh,
(06:15):
Jacob Cocher won a national title. A Jim mcchaern won
two national titles. Craig McElroy won a national title. To
a tongue of Vailoa almost won a national title. Well, no,
he did, coming in subbing in for Jalen Hurts, even
though Jalen Hurts started the game. So I kind of
can give Jalen Hurts one there too because he started
(06:36):
the game in two a came in for him at halftime.
Alabama fans wanted Jalen Milroe gone, and I know, and
I've heard from my college football source is that Kayland
Moore might have wanted to move on from Jalen Milroe
as well. So there's a reason that Kayln Milroe is
(06:57):
now in the place that that Jalen Milroe is now
in the place that Kaylin de Boor used to call
home because he kind of wanted to move on the
same way that Steve Sarksian, another former Huskies coach, wanted
to move on from quinn Ewers because he has arch
manning and Kaylen de Boorr did not like Jaylen Milroe.
(07:19):
Last year, he didn't they lost to freaking Vanderbilt Vanderbilt.
I would ask him that, I would say, what the
f happened against Vanderbilt? Seriously, how do you lose to
Vanderbilt and football? I mean that was pathetic. Absolutely. I
don't care about their quarterback. Alabama should never lose to
(07:41):
Vanderbilt and football, and they haven't lost. They never lost
to Vanderbilt with Nick Saban as the head coach. Never
happened under Kaylen de Boor. And who is the quarterback?
It was Jaln Milroe just saying, all right, what about
your relationship with Sam darn Old Track five.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah, we have a good relationship. I know, I know
him very well. We both had the same quarterback coach
with Jordan Palmer, and so I know him. Sorror keep
being a Seahawk, So I'm definitely excited to cheat up
with him again.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
All right, Jordan Palmer, Yeah, he's a quarterback whisperer when
it comes to these guys going in to the draft.
All right, speaking of the draft, are you going to
use that as motivation.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
My life? Some goal was being NFL quarterback, you know,
no matter where I would select, I said, to prove myself,
no matter how the first overall pick in the draft,
and or I was the mister irrelevant, it doesn't matter.
I started to come in the league and prove myself
and so my goal wasn't to this certain pick or
this time frame was more of being I'm gonna hear
my name called. That was the beautiful moment that I have.
(08:52):
My family was hearing my name called and also hearing
that it was gonna be a Sea Hawk. So it
didn't really matter when it was all right.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Thanks, good attitude to have and what about ecceiting an
example from day one when you get into the Virginia
Mason Athletic Center.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
It's all about being authentic, being the same personation every day,
the data everyone can trust. And so it's all about
working hard as well, but working at Doug's all going
to come to shine and if necessary. So I saw
a part of box process. You know, our process is different,
but I understand that you have to work for all
that you want to achieve.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
All right. Just to expand on this little bit, John
Schneider said that the Seahawks were looking to draft a
quarterback in this offseason, and they did Jalen Milrow. He said, quote,
He's a unique special young Man, special athlete selected ninety
(09:50):
second overall. It was the pick that they got from
the Raiders in exchange for Geno Smith. So Mike McDonald
and this is why I think Milroe is a great fit.
Here said, quarterbacks who can extend the play are incredibly
difficult to read. The worst thing in the world is
(10:12):
that you play the first part of the play perfectly
on defense and you're like, all right, sweet, we did it,
and the guy still has the ball, and you've got
to defend the next play. And then sometimes with third play.
He can kill you in the first play, can kill
you in the second play, can kill you in the
third play. It's not a fun existence to live in consistently.
(10:33):
He has that ability. So there it is, there it is,
and overall I like to pick. I like it, I
think for this team and giving it a different dimension
and gold line situations in meeting an an athlete at
(10:55):
quarterback that Sam Darnold is not the most fleet of
foot to be nice, nice, more drop back type passer,
not not the worst athlete in the world, but certainly
not going to be compared to Lamar Jackson anytime soon.
That's where Jaylen Milroll comes in and he gives his
team a different dimension than they had they had that
(11:18):
guy at quarterback and putting him in situations and letting
him be able. And he's a Swiss Army knife man.
And that's where I think I like to pick a
lot this offseason, mini camp, training camp, all that is
going to be instrumental and these guys all becoming acclimated
(11:39):
and seeing how they fit in and what type of
role on this team. I think when the season starts,
Jaylen Milroe will be QB three. Maybe as this season
goes on, he'll move up to QB two. If he
moves up to QB one, then it's going to be
a bad year for the Seahawks because that means Sam
Darnold was a complete bus We don't want that to happen.
(12:02):
But could he move up to QB two during the season, Absolutely,
no question about it. He's got the skill set and
that's all that you want to see. So I mean
it's there is a ton of potential, more even so
than when the Patriots took Joe Milton late in the draft,
(12:25):
they sinse traded him to the Cowboys. But you have
a guy that can really keep offense excuse me, opposing
defensive coordinators up at night. What are they going to
do in goal line situations? What are they going to
do in certain packages? Maybe even on second down Jalen
Milroe comes in and he lines up at wide receiver,
(12:48):
or maybe he lines up in the shotgun and Sam
Darnold's out at wide receiver in the flat. You just
don't know. That's why I like this pick, and that's
what I love the draft overall, the Seahawks draft. It's
definitely I give it an AA minus on paper. I
can see why the Athletic and other national outlets have
(13:12):
ranked it top five. Dame Brugler ranked it top three.
It's been like they've really they've addressed needs, especially with
Cable Doo and Richmond later on in the draft to
add to that old lineman room. It's awesome. I mean,
we had Nick Baumgardner on yesterday and he said he
(13:37):
thought Gray's Abel's the best pick in the draft for
any team, any team including Cam Word or Travis Hunter,
Abdul Carter. He thinks that's the best pick for any
team in the draft. That's how high he is. Unsable
not as high, but I do like it, and I
think that there is a chance that this draft could
(14:00):
We'll look back maybe one day, as you look back
at the twenty twelve draft, the Bruce Irvin, Bobby Wagner
and Russell Wilson and j R. Sweezey in the seventh round,
maybe we'll look back at the twenty twenty five draft
and see Jesus, oh my lord, Elijah Royle, you know,
Horton Milroe. I mean, that's Sabel. That's hopefully how you'll
(14:25):
look back at this draft, and hopefully we' won't have
to wait three or four years because you can kind
of tell early not on quarterbacks or certain olignement need
more time to develop. For for the most part, you
can tell you get a season sample size and that's
enough from me. That is enough so I can see,
(14:48):
all right, here's yeah, yeah, this guy has it where
he doesn't. It doesn't take too long. Now, some quarterbacks
take a lot of time to develop, and you get it. Listen,
Sam Darnov's a bus with the Jets. So was Gino Smith,
and then their entire careers were rejuvenated. And look what happened.
They got through that absolute total abortion that is the Jets,
(15:12):
and they ended up becoming high quality starters in the
NFL after being cast out and everyone calling them the
B word bust. That's the worst thing that anybody can
be called. So yes, I Milro is intriguing and I
want to see how they're going to use them. But
(15:33):
I don't have any delusions of grandeur. I don't see
him throwing dimes to Horton or Cooper Cup or Jackson
Smith and jig By any time soon. That's not his role,
at least not immediately. He's gonna have to earn his
way up the depth chart and earn his way up
(15:55):
to at least be QB two. All right, what do
you say? Text of the day. A lot of people, well,
if you missed the Kevin Collabro interview be posted MJY
and the Midday we had him at the top of
the eleven o'clock hour, Please go and listen to that
or any part of the show that you miss. You
want to hear my rant On, mel kiper Instauduur Sanders
(16:17):
top of hour two from yesterday's show. It's all there,
and it's all labeled so you can find it there
wherever you listen to your podcasts. What do you say?
Text of the day four nine, four or five to one.
When you heard Kevin Collabor, Oh you think of him?
What comes to mind? We'll get to that next right
here on MJ in the Midday, a.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Message to our audience. You gave Softy have passed back
in the day. Now look where he's at. This is
Mark James, be kind, knowing me sensitive MJ and the
Midday on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
All right, what do you say? Text of the day,
lot of Kevin collabro tacks A lot of them. Yeah,
the cake and the pudding. One we got that one.
He says he almost got fired for that. Two in
the cake and one of them pudding. All right? From
Jeff The three six oh man fraud is a joke.
I get he's there for the owners, but the guy
(17:17):
doesn't even have a love for the game. At least
the other commissioners pretend to play it down the middle.
He's not even close, agreed. From the two to oh six.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
My favorite Pete Rose highlight opposing Dugout was heckling him.
He fouled off perhaps a dozen balls into the dugout,
making them dive and dance. No one in today's game
has the ability or balls.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
To do that. Shut the front door. Wow. That is
that's what you call a professional hitter. Wow. That is
by the way, that is a flex. That is definitely
a flex. That's a that's an f U flex. If
they did not think from the two five three, if
(18:02):
they did not think Pete Roase deserved to be in
the Hall of Fame while alive, putting him in posthumously
is just disrespectful. It's not just a disservice, it's outright disrespectful.
I co sign you are absolutely right on that.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Our guy Marcus out of the two h six terrible commissioner.
But the pitch count, pitch pitch count, pitchclock is the
worst thing he's ever done. Pete deserves it, but not
now because then you're just gonna have to do it
for a lot of other people. Not to mention the
steroids ban. Both have clear rules to so leave it alone.
This is what's great about baseball and golf. Integrity.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
I mean it depends. I mean baseball lost its integrity
to me, and then in the late nineties when Sammy
so Son, Mark maguire and then Barry Bonds were juicing
with Roid's that's the and they turned a blind eye
to it. And then afterwards Jose came and Saiko and
spoke exposed the entire sport and they were just like,
oh oh, they banned them and this, that and the other.
(19:06):
So I don't I wouldn't really put baseball up there
next synonymous with the word integrity three six. So I'm
not a diehard wrestling fan, but I keep up enough
to get the references. I like the voice of the
voiceless is see Him Punk, I think, except you need
to make your rants into quote pipe bombs. Oh yeah,
don't worry, go look up, go look yesterday, uh Monday
(19:30):
four twenty eight, twenty five hour two rants on schedu ur.
Now that's about it's that's that's a pipe bomb that
would make see Him Punk himself blush.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
From the two oh six. Roe deserved it before and
deserves it now.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I know. It just sucks that he's dead, and it
sucks that you're gonna do it when he's dead. That's
that's my only thing, you know, That's my only thing.
It just feels feels hollow, it feels shallow, it feels disingenuous,
It just does um all right, Kevin is the Goat.
(20:12):
Paid like one hundred and fifty bucks for the Sonic
Super Channel, a lot of money back then, but watched
every game.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Loved collabro from our guy Travis out of the two
o six. Damn it was good to hear Kevin Collabo.
That is top three all time best NBA announcers. Easily
hope to hear him back with the Sonics soon from.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
The two six. On top of that, Casey is one
of the best play by play guys of all time.
He also simulcasted, so his descriptions were incredible. Thank you, Casey.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Speaking of the Sonics four two five, born in ninety eight,
I remember going to Sonic game with my dad in
five six. The energy, the atmosphere of the Sasquatch, the
massat for those that don't know all ingrained in my
memory seventeen years too.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
Damn long.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Bring the Sonics back.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
A men to that. That is awesome. That is great?
So oh that is fantastic?
Speaker 2 (21:16):
All right?
Speaker 1 (21:16):
What else we got here? Jalen Miller from Tim in
the four two five, Jalen Milroll's interview sounds a crap
ton better than anything. Schador Sanders said.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
This is from the two five three. Yeah, but does
Softy have to grillam? And is welcome to Seattle?
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Interview question mark.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
I don't know if it was grilling, maybe tough questions, sure, grilling.
I would say it wasn't too much of it. But
I think Softy landed the plane quite well.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Hey, you know what, this ain't tusk loose Alabama anymore. Jaylen,
you're in the big time now, You're in the top
ten market in America. If you don't, you know you don't,
you don't get softball questions like you do from the
good old boys down in Alabama. So welcome, Welcome Softy.
(22:09):
He's just going high and tight. It's his job, and
if he didn't do it, then I would be upset.
I would be Softy. I know Softy enough to know
that if he wasn't doing I've listened to him for
years enough to know he's going to do his job.
That's it. That's it.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
All right?
Speaker 1 (22:29):
What else we got here?
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Wow? We get more? Uh? I don't want to get
in political here, have it. Have had a chance to
meet Mantard a couple times in a past job Total
Weasel from the two five three Yes, Yes, I have not,
but I'll take your word for it, and I will
uh a lot of them? Uh uh, little do I? Mark?
Speaker 2 (23:00):
With the c.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
These one? Hey, aren't you a little tough on? Jay Froud?
He can't hit until late July? Ha ha? Well all right,
fair enough, Yeah, I guess.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Speaking of Julio, enjoy seeing him going zero for four
in person at the game.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Let's hope not. Let's hope no, I expect a big
game out of him. Mark, The twenty twenty four Maners
are the only team in MLB history in the wild
Card era to blow a ten game lead and miss
the playoffs. Until they make the playoffs, he put f them.
So I disagree, but I think I get your I
(23:41):
feel your pain. I feel your pain. Two five three.
I'm good with the grilling, just not in the welcome interview.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
That's all. Love the grilling any other time. Okay, okay, yeah,
it's not bad.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Fair enough. Hey, let's see that's another one here. Oh this,
I'm just trying to read the ones that I can
read on the air, because there's some that Mark, all right,
what the hell are we doing bad here? Can we
(24:16):
please get a segment of this type of emotion? With
some good ish Hey, listen from the two six I
was it was all positive about the Mariners at the
beginning of the show, all positive. I'm giving them credit
because they deserve the credit. They'veen ballin recently twelve out
of sixteen since my rant, just so you know, twelve ou,
(24:39):
they've won twelve out of sixteen games since my rant
at Jimmy's on First, which I will be there tomorrow
between ten and one. Stop buy and say hi. From
the four two five.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
If you do the worst thing possible in baseball and
on your own team, how do you ignore it? Bam
from baseball should include the Hall, even if the stats
should put him in.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Okay, fair enough, MJ. You're growing on me like a fungus.
But still uh. The guy also put uh. Julio was
signed to a massive contract only a few after a
few months in the league when he was twenty one.
That was a mistake. Julio deserves criticism, but I always
wonder why m signed him to a big deal so
(25:25):
early when they had years of club control. Left great
point on the two six. Yeah, you're right. I don't
know why they did that, but they did it.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Last one for me from the four, two five, Good
gall it, Miss Mollett, magic carpet ride and his class.
He spec for Bob Blackburn, can't wait for his return
to the Seattle Sonics.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
We all hope that will happen. Uh. Yes, this is
another one from the two six. But the emotional is
on the negative side. Sometimes we need that raw ra
on the good side. Imagine if one of you guys
came on with let's go I did, I said, LFGJ,
(26:13):
Let's f and go Julio. Let's go Julio. Those are
the what do you say? Texts of the day. Appreciate
everyone who texted, everyone who listened, and I'm glad you
enjoyed the Kevin Collaboro interview. It's always nice to hear
a familiar voice. And it's been way too long, right
about seventeen years, Way too long. So we'll talk to
(26:36):
the mayor coming up next for cross talk as we
close it out on a Tuesday right here in ninety
three to three. Kjrtham, All right, thanks again Kevin collabor
for joining us today. That was a lot of fun.
Long time voice of the Sonics was here for twenty
one years. Came in with beliefs Audied under the tutelage
(27:01):
of Bob Blackburn for a long time and then finally
got took over the Reins in nineteen ninety two and
was there for just an unbelievable run and his voice
still as great as it was thirty three years ago
(27:21):
when he first took over as the voice of the Sonics.
Ian Ferness, what do you remember about Kevin Collabro.
Speaker 5 (27:31):
He's just as good as there is special business. Yeah, yeah,
And I love Bob Blackburn. I grew up listening to
Bob Blackburn on the radio and games weren't on TV.
And I think a lot of us when Casey first
got here, we're like, yeah, I don't know what you're
doing here, Like what are we doing? Like why are
they bringing this guy in? But then you heard him
and he's just unbelievable. And Blackburn was old school and
(27:51):
he did you know, for a while, Kevin was doing
color for him and then like kind of like he
do half a game or a quarter here or there.
They kind of eased him in over a couple of years,
and you know, and Bob was ready to retire, so
just it was a nice transition.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
But yeah, case he was.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
He's he's so good, Like he's really good. He's done
national games, but I don't know how interested he is
and doing that all the time because I listened to
NBA announcers and outside of outside of Harlan, they all.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
But can I just tell you my thing about Harlan
Every play is not Game seven the NBA Pomp Finals, No,
you know what I mean. No, that's Gus Johnson. No,
but Carlon too, like like the whole game he just wears.
I watched last.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
I watched last night and I hadn't watched the game
in a long time, like start to finish, because the
NHL games were not good last night, so they weren't
huh no, So I flipped over and I was watching that.
I don't know if I'd go as far as to
say every every game, because I think Gus Johnson does that.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
I think they're all guys. Gus definitely.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
I think Kevin has a level of energy that's that
usually does a good job of capturing. And that game
was such a back and forth game last night, you know,
Like I like Mike Breen awful, Like he's just boring
and awful. But everything ESPN does in the NBA is awful.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
So I mean, it's just listen, lifelong Knicks fan, I'll
be the first to tell you, I don't get it.
I don't get it. I'm with you, I don't get it.
I never bang. I mean like like bang bang, like
really that's your that's your your catch phrase. It's just
not good. It's it's like I just I never got it. Man,
I just he's fine, he's okay, but hall of Fame.
(29:28):
I think Brian Anderson's decent. He's right, he does a
good job, like for for a guy that, you know, I.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Think the NBA is just is not no announcer wise,
it's just subpark compared league. Now, the league itself was
interesting watching that game last night because just I got
my buddy John Londet today we're gonna talk about it.
It's such a such a weird. I'm trying to figure
out this league.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
I really am.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
And as somebody who watched it forever and grew up
in the you know, seventies, eighties, nineties watching it for
someone I covered it, you know, and worked for the Jazz,
worked for the Blazers. I'm not sure what to think
of today's NBA, and I hate to be that guy.
I don't want to be that guy. I don't want
to be that guy. That's like, you know it was
back in the day, it was this, I got it,
but there's just some weird stuff now. The skill levels
(30:12):
through the roof better than it's ever been, there's no
doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
But zero originality. Well, in terms of like come down,
the Celtics will average thirty eight to forty five three
point attempts to night.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Yeah, the reliance on I mean the reliance on threes
is interesting. The what I find is interesting is the
lack of desire to ever play defense until until the
final two minutes.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Well, here's my thing. Can I this none whatsoever? Like
I will watch because I'm a lifelong Knicks fan, so
I will watch every second of the game starting at
four thirty. But for even last night for Warriors Rockets,
which I did watch the whole game, but like for
like Celtics magic, I don't need to watch the middle
of the third quarter. No, you don't like you you
really can't avoid and I'm like, I'll go watch.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
It's a it's a unique sport in that because there's
no other sport NFL, NBA or NFL Major League baseball, hockey.
There's no other sport that you watch that really you
don't need to watch until the last quarter, five minutes,
ten minutes or whatever.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
You just sned.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
And it's just it's because no lead, because the and
I think part of it is because the skill level
is so good, Like you can be down twenty well
then all of a sudden start rocketing three your point
what you just said, No, how about being down thirty?
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Oklahoma City was down twenty nine points and we could
go to Memphis. They came back and won, right, yeah, no,
so you you didn't what did you miss? No, you
miss nothing.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
And you know, like in the NHL, you you're down
three after one period, it might be over.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Oh yeah, it probably is over.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
I know.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
You know Major Major League Baseball. You know the Mariner
game the other night they were that game was over
on Saturday after two innings.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Over.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Yeah, like and and and then guys know it and
they just stop and they stop. NFL, you get up
by three touchdowns in the NFL, you ain't coming back,
like you like, you're not coming back. You just aren't
right and so and maybe that does speak to the
level of play in the skill level of today NBA players.
I mean, you know old Freddy last night, how old's Freddy?
How old is Van Fleet? How old is he now?
(32:10):
I mean when that dude wanted to hit a three
until the very last shot he hit a three like contested,
not contested, like I'm watching him going like it's it's
it is remarkable the skill levels remarked thirty one, Yeah,
thirty year and I like to watch Atari Easton play.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
You know, the.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Battle guy got to high school. I had to see
him in Paulo Battle.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
Man the last tournament before COVID, or actually as COVID
was as twenty twenty, so it was as COVID was happening.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Easton I think was a senior. He's going to Cincinnati.
I remember J. T. Tumalo was.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
He's like a junior, uncommitted for football, but he was.
He was thinking about trying to play both in college.
And Paula ban Carol, those three guys were all playing
in a three A state tournament. Watched them all play
like a week before the world got shut down. It
was incredible, incredible, man.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
But what you were saying to what you were saying
the other night on Sunday in the tee Wolves Lakers game.
Is that the tee Wolves were other than that man.
They were struggling. And then Finch brings in nas Reid
and he hits four three pointers off the bench at
six ten sixty nine, six ten, and he's just nailing
them like and I mean money. The skill levels off
(33:24):
the charts, you know.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
So when people say, like, these guys aren't as good
as players back twenty years ago, they're wrong. Brad Sellers
was a six ten six eleven seven foot player and
he was the first guy that size that was a
perimeter threat. Remember that, like he was a He was
a He was a perimeter threat. And people are like, well,
a guy like that tall can't shoot? Oh no, he could.
He you know, Dale allis maybe the best pure three
(33:46):
point shooter. Sorry, ray Allen Dale.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Now Dale, That's why I mentioned the collop Dale Alice
Dale Ellers truth. Yeah, yeah, dude.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
He was six seven all All every part of six
seven was Dale el And on TV and looks six.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Seven mundane and they called him just did his thing.
He didn't look six to seven on TV. Dude, he
was number three. He was He was a bad man.
He was a bad man. He was a bad Yeah. Yeah,
those were those old school guys man. They you know,
they come in the microwave.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
Finny Johnson, Yeah, I mean, like, I mean there's all
the like like x many McDaniel, you know.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Like he was great.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
I don't know where his role would be in today's NBA.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Right, how about making Raymond, but he's he was smaller
than Draymond, only six seven. Yeah, but Draymond's and Draymonds
was thick for the time back then, six four, right, No,
I think he might have been six fives.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
He was about six five. And Dramons lied about their
hype back then too, just as an FYI like, well,
Drake hold on, Draymond's got point guard skills though, Yeah,
Draymond's a different player. I mean he can take the
but he could literally be their point guard.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
I'll give him credit though, Like now, I think NBA
referees know what they're doing. He played with five fouls
for like.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
He played with five fouls, a technical foul and a
flagrant foul for for about eighteen minutes of that game.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Oh yeah, now they know, hey know, And he.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
Shouldn't have got the flagir that was a bad call,
Like that wasn't a good call?
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Yeah, I'm seeing what do you got today?
Speaker 5 (35:17):
Uh, Tuesday, this is our last jam packed Tuesday for
a while, just because we got Palozolo his last visit
coming up at one thirty from the thirty thirteen.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Uh. I know him and his partner. They love the
Seahawks draft.
Speaker 5 (35:27):
We'll talk about that with him at one thirty Joe
Shean one O five talking all things Mariner baseball. And then,
as I mentioned, our buddy John lenn this week we
visit who knows where that will go. I'll make fun
of the fact that the forty nine Ers had a
crappy draft and just draft for all defensive lineman again, horrible.
We'll make fun of him horrible. Then the Rams garbage,
absolutely garbage. Rams are okay though for so no, no,
they're in good shake to win thirteen games and oh
(35:47):
it is.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Yeah, rolling out of bed, falling out of bed. Yeah,
all right, we will. Guy h mcvay's a pretty good coach. Tomorrow,
Damien Martinez, UH, new Seattle Seahawk running back from the
U will join us, and hopefully PJ. Carlossimo as well.
He'll be on the road tomorrow night, calling the Lakers
in the Tea Wolves Game five at Crypto formerly known
(36:10):
as Staples Center. Stay tuned for the Mayor coming up
next on a KJR ninety three for m
