Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's been quite an off season for the Kraken, and
obviously naming a head coach, finding that right guy is imperative.
So before we get into who, let me get into
how much longer do you think this process will continue?
And before they find their guy?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hey, Mark Man, thanks for having me.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
I have not had a chance to talk to you
and meet you yet, so I've listened to some of
your work, man, big fan, and thank you.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Happy to have you, happy to have you here in Seattle.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
And Mike Beton, our good friend, Mike Betton wanted me
to pass along a message to you.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
How about the Yankees?
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Oh? No, yeah, thank you.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I appreciate that here. But hey, hey, Mike, I just
got asked, Mike, how did those Dodgers do over the weekend?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah? Lifelong Dodger fan, Mike Betton, right right?
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Yeah? Did they get swept by?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Like?
Speaker 4 (01:01):
You missed?
Speaker 5 (01:02):
You missed, you missed everything since lifelong Dodgers fan since
twenty sixteen.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Oh but you know, every he every he did grow
up there though.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
He didn't, No, he didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
And I will say that since I grew up in
Detroit with I grew up in Detroit with a lot
of anemic fan bases, and I definitely can can sympathize
with Mike Benton. He has earned every bit of this
Dodger's success run that they've.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Had over eight years now, almost ten years.
Speaker 6 (01:36):
Now, consistent CS appearances and banners, and we give him
a lot of a lot of flak for it, but no,
he's he's earned it.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
He's definitely earned it.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
He certainly has. That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
It's good to finally talk to you, so obviously before
we get into the draft and free agency and all
that sort of things, it's kind of imperative to to
find the right guy. I mentioned, you know, the day
after they fired Biles, Matt, I'm a fan of a
guy that you were very familiar with who spent three
years here in Seattle, Jay Leech.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah, so I'm a fan, No, right.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, I think he's definitely a viable candidate.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
You know the interesting thing about this, and going back
to your original question, you know the timeline. I feel
like now that we're through the second round of the playoffs, typically,
if if a coach, assistant coach, head coach is going
through to the third round, you have to imagine that
their their job is pretty safe. And I think the
only maybe asterisks I would put on that, and it's
a very bold asterix. I don't think it's gonna happen.
(02:38):
But you look at a guy like Pete de Boor,
who's going into his third straight conference final with the
Dallas Stars. He's going into his fifth overall or sixth
overall in the last eight years. Personally, I think maybe
if Dallas is like, if you don't get over this hump,
maybe you need another boys, I could see.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Him potentially coming available. I doubt it. I don't see it.
So I think the candidates that we see out there
are the candidates. And as far as the.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Timeline goes, now that we're through the second round, I mean,
I would have to imagine if if we don't have
a leak or if we don't have some concrete names,
you know, being thrown out by Memorial Day, if not
mid next week, I would be very surprised because you
don't want to get too far into June, coming up
(03:25):
on the draft, coming up on free agency, you've got
development camp that first week of August. You're starting to
get into the meat of that offseason timeline, and you
want to have I think as you want to have
all of your voices in place, you want to have
all of your messaging in place. So I would expect
a decision to come here within the next ten fourteen days.
(03:49):
That would that would be my my thought process. But again,
you know Jason boscherl and Ron Francis and the Krackt
management group.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
You know, it's we're going on five years.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Now and it's been a tight lipped ship over there
for the entirety.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
But you know you mentioned Jay Leach. His name has
been thrown out there. You've got Kurt.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Muller and Mitch Love who are both on the Washington bench.
Their names have been thrown out there. You've got Nika
Mark storm Rather, who's the head coach in Ontario in
the American League, the King's top affiliate. I think there's
a lot of the first time head coach names out there.
But in listening to Jason and listening to Rob and
Salmon and Ron and Sam and everybody who's going to
(04:31):
lead this process, the number one piece that you're looking
for is a coach who knows and appreciates development. And yes,
you want to have a guy who's been around a
winning culture. I think all of those assistant coaches have
been around winning cultures. But when you look at the
Kraken in their system and the amount of blue ship
(04:52):
top tier prospects that they have, you're going to want
a guy who is going to really develop these players
into NHL talent within a year or two. You know,
I don't think this is a coach that you can
hire that's.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Gonna as well. This is gonna be a long term project.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I mean, I think you're looking at getting back to
the playoffs, if not this season or I guess next season,
definitely twenty six, twenty seven. But if you miss the
playoffs next year, I mean, the expectation is if you're
gonna miss it, it.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Better be within three to five points.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
It can't be, you know, a fifteen to twenty thirty
point swing that you're missing the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
By no question. Everett fits you the voice of the
Seattle Kraken. Joining us here on MJ in the Midday
and listen, we've seen this coaching carousel and already Rangers
hired Mike Sullivan. Okay, after firing Peter Lavilette, I mentioned
the Flyers if they're fighting John Tortorella hiring Rick Tockets
(05:55):
Ducks firing Greg Crohn and hiring Joel Quinville. Do you think, Everett,
that those type of like veteran type coaches would be
good with this team in terms of, you know, because
it seemed like they would want more of a veteran
type team rather than a younger team that is on
the cusp of developing that keyword that you mentioned.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah, that, you know what that Unfortunately for me, that
that that's a very difficult question and a very difficult,
you know, route for me to take. Obviously, Labolette's and
Tortorella and some of these guys have had playoff experience,
they've had finals experience. But I do think that that
(06:41):
old way of coaching is on its way out the door,
right I. I do think that that old way of
coaching is on its way out the door.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
When you're looking at the.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
New type of the new player that you have, the
it's more of an individualized coaching stance, it's more of
a skill, that's more of of you know, a softer game.
And that's not necessarily a bad thing, but gone are
the ways when you can bagskate a guy and you
can curse the guy out and he's going to respond
to it. And I think you see a lot of
(07:13):
younger coaches who either have just finished playing within the
last ten or fifteen years, or they got into coaching
right out of college or right after a brief minor
league career. They're a bit more in tune with today's player.
And I think when I, like I said, with the
Krake and having such a robust prospect pool, a robust
minor league system where you have a number of sub
(07:37):
twenty five twenty three year old players who were ready
to take that next step, I think you're looking for
someone who can speak their language, who can help grow
and develop them because they're going to be the future
of this franchise. And that's not to say last season
the crack can go out and they go get Chandler
Stevens and Brandon Montour, a couple of Vets, a couple
of thirty year olds, and they were two of these
(07:59):
teams better players.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
That's not to say that you can't go the.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Older route, but when you have players who are coming
up and who were you're you know, essentially you're gonna
be handing the keys of the car to these kids.
You're you're gonna want to coach and someone who speaks
that language and who can coach and develop them in
a way that they've been used to for these last
five or ten years in junior hockey, all the way
(08:23):
up and through now their first few steps in the
pro hockey.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
How imperative do you think is naming a new coach
before free agency in the draft, just especially for agency,
so when you're going after some targets, they know who
the coach is and rather than well, we haven't gotten
our coach yet, you think so you do, like you said,
within two weeks, you think that something could transpire that
that would be.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
My guess, because again, like I said, I think.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
You you want all your voices to be in place.
You want to have these coaches potentially being used.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
As a recruiting tool.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
If you're looking at a group of free agents and
you're saying, hey, Seattle just hired ex coach man. I
really love what he did, I love what he stands for.
Maybe now this is a team, Seattle is a team
that I'm gonna put on my list. You would expect
your head coach maybe to have not maybe input, but
answer some questions about where do you think the team
(09:22):
would go in the draft, right, if you're looking for
a coach who's good with developing players, Well, what do
you see from from these draft eligible prospects that would
help our team? You know, in the next three to
five years, who could you see having an impact on
this organization.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
You want to get input, input.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
From your coaches there, So again I would just I
would guess that you don't want to be going into
the Stanley Cup Finals.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
You don't want to be June fifteenth still hunting for
a coach.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
And that's why I personally feel and I've got no
inside baseball here, I've got no intel, nothing that leads
me to this conclusion. But when you see all of
the teams who have made decisions before, typically in years past,
all the vacancies are filled, most of the vacancies are
(10:15):
filled by June fifth, tenth ish round, and there I
don't see this coaching search going more than about two
more weeks. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt,
I highly doubt we're gonna be sitting here game one
of the Stanley Cup Final on June fifth, whenever that is,
(10:38):
and the Kraken are still looking for a head coach.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Every fits you joining us here the voice of the
Kraken here on MJ and in the midday. Yeah, no, that
makes a ton of sense. And you know you mentioned
Mitch loves His credentials are unparalleled.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Jay Leach as well.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Spend time with the Providence Bruins Marco Stern, Ontario HL
head coach.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
So there's a lot of good.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Candidate it's out there, and I think it's about the
right fit and that's it. You want to get it
right this time because going on your third coach in
five years, this is the time where like, let's see
where Seattle is going, Let's see the vision. And you
mentioned Jason Botteroll former Buffalo Sabers GM, so he knows
this is in his first rodeo and he knows what
(11:21):
needs to transpire. Now that being said Everett, the Sam
Darnold of the NHL big ticket free agents out there
is Mitch Marner. Okay, he rebuffed them during the season
talking about the Maple Leaf tried to sign him to
an extension. He said, no, what do you think it
(11:42):
would take to get someone like that to become the
next member of the Kraken.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
I mean, first and foremost, it's gonna take a lot
of cheese, a lot of scratch, That's right. And I
do think that I said, I've been I talked to
a lot of folks about Mitch Marner and players like that.
And the question that I always have is Marner has
been playing his entire career with a Matthews, with a
(12:12):
knee Lander, with you know, really strong players around him.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
And that's not to say the cracket don't have strong players.
The kracking doln have an Austin Matthews. All right, I'm
not I'm not throwing shade.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
It's true.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
By the way, everytt you and I are on the
same page, because that's one of the things I've gone
to a couple of games this year and I said,
I said, you know what, Nathan McKinnon a dry title McDavid,
you need an aircraft carrier, right, yep.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
And that's Ian Fernetz's favorite term, right, And I'm I'm
bang on with him. And I think the question that
you're always gonna have with Mitch Marner, he is a
a eighty five to one hundred point player with Matthews.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
With kneelander. Does he stay in eighty five to one.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Hundred point player without those guys does he go to
a set indeed to ninety point player or do we
see him sink back into a fifty point player. We
don't know what what those numbers are gonna be. I
personally do think that there is a a a really
good level of skill with Marner.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I like the way he plays the game.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
I am a big believer of sometimes a change of
scenery and the pressure being.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Off will go a long way.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
You have got Mitch Marner who was from Toronto, grew
up a Toronto Maple League fan, drafted by the hometown team.
That's a lot of pressure to put on someone, and
you know, maybe he gets out of there, he gets
out of the pressure cooker that is Toronto and he thrives.
But it's the same question I've always had. I asked
folks at Edmondson all the time. You know, is dry
(13:47):
Side can dry Title have his own team? Or does
make David make dry Title? The overall consensus is that
dry Sidle can one thousand percent run his own team.
But you look at Miko Ranton without McKinnon, what he's
been able to do.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Can we see that same reduction.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
From a Marner without a Matthews with out of Javares
without a Nielander. That being said, I do think that
when you have a guy like Mitch Marner, that I mean,
that's your number one bodify at Superstar, that's your guy.
And I've always contended, you know, when you look at
a lot of these teams around the NHL, A lot
of teams twenty five, twenty six to seven teams in
(14:23):
the league each have that one guy. When you're down
a goal with three minutes left, who are you throwing
over the boards? Who are you gonna put on the
ice every single time without fail bar none? And and
he's the guy, right, So I've always been a fan
of a guy like that.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
But I also think that if the krack and were
to go.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
The route they went last year, maybe rather than getting
one thirteen fourteen million dollar player, you go out and
you sign a Stevenson and a mon Tour, you go
sign two six and a half's, two sevens who are
still gonna put up numbers for you, but it gives
you a little.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Bit more flexibilit within your lineup. I think this season.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
The Big three or probably Marner, Eelers, Bennett Besser, right,
those are gonna probably be your top four. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
And by and by the way, if in mar Shan
forget about he's too old.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
And that's I love Brad Martin.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
I grew up in Newland for thirty five at thirty
five years old, right now, I think that's the.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Key for me. So.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
But you know, if you're swinging on two of let's say,
a Bennett or an Eelers or a Rock Besser, and
you can get two of those guys for under eight apiece,
is it going to be worth it more than paying
one guy fourteen. I'm more of a fan of that route. Again,
we'll see what happens come July one. But Marner, definitely
(15:45):
that is the de facto.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Number one top free agent going into the summer.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Evertt fits you. You know, Evertt, I take some delight. Da.
You grew up in Detroit, so I would surmise a
Renequens fan.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Girl, I see, I I grew up a bit of
a Red Wings fan.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
I was bourbon Edmonton oilershros.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
He just kidding. I know.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Hey, hey, by the way, it's just so you know
your childhood favorite team before the playoffs begin. I have
a lot of financial interest on them winning it all.
I bet on them the'll win it all last year
and they just came up short. So I am all
in on mister Drycydle and mc Jesus and Caine and
Skinner and Pickard and all those guys.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
So I am pulling for them. Oh but you know what, it.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Was funny last last year.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
You know, now that the Oilers are in our division,
they are the rival, you know, but I found it
sometimes a little hard to throw away fifteen to twenty
years of fandom, And like I remember last season, I
said to myself, I need the Oilers to win the
Cup because we've had a lot of really good battles
with Edmonton. I'm starting to feel the rivalry as well.
(16:55):
Every time the Crack and play the Oilers, I get
a little bit more jaded, a little bit more kicked off,
and I'm like, all right, I need to put my
Oilers stand them to bed. I need them to win
this year so I can say, you know what, I
saw it.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
And now I can move on. They didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
They'd fast forward this year, the Crack and had a
couple of ugly games with Edmonton, and I left Rogers
Place a lot of times this year, like.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Like, I'm just I'm ready to explode. I'm like, I
don't know if I can root for the Oilers again
this year. Yeah, like I would love them.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
I would love to see McDavid get one, but I
don't know if I can, if I can throw all
the eggs of the Oilers basket this year.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Well, Wednesday night game one down in uh down Dallas,
A big D, big D. So Everyett We'll look forward
to to talk. Can you catch it up with you again?
Maybe the next time we talked to you, the Kraken
will have a new head coach hopefully.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
So hey MJ, thanks for the time, man, looking forward
to it, and keep keep keep bringing the hockey.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Oh I love hey listen.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
It's like I said, I've seen like you know guys,
and you know I love Yannie Newman.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
That's my guy.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Man.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
I love this kid, and I've just seen what these
This guy could be a future uh E. Kuchera or
somewhat Hadmond someone like that. Like I can see it
in this kid. He's got it. He's got it.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
And that's why, and that's why getting the right coach
is so important, because you have the Newman's you have
the Coco's. You have the Riker Evans and the Berkeley
Catons who are coming up, and Shane Wright, who took
a big step this year.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Huge.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
You want to coach, you want to coach now that's
going to come in and help drag these guys even further,
push these guys even further. So we're talking about Yanni
Newman being a Kucherov in three to four years, Right,
that's what you want.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
I would say I would hate I hate watch the
the Toronto may Police, but there's nothing to hate because
they haven't won in nearly sixty years, so there's nothing
to hate.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yeah, yeah, exactly. And I listen, I know a lot.
I'm from Detroit.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
I grew up with a lot of folks who go
to gwent to Toronto all the time.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
The Red Wings.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Toronto Lavory was big when I was a kid, even
though they were in different conference at the time.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
And I know a lot of folks who were Leaf fans.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
I feel bad for them personally, my friends who were
Lease fans.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
But man, this is that's good.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
This is like an epic. This is we're bordering Cubs.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yeah, oh no, it is Cubs level.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
It is unluckiness.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yeah, no, no, they're the new Cubs of pro sports.
They're at they're the new cursed team. They're at every
Let's do it again soon. Thank you anytime, man.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
I always pleasure to that.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
All right, good to talk to you too. What a
great voice too, ever it fits you. And the what
do you say? Text of the day?
Speaker 4 (19:44):
Four nine four five to one.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Remember when I asked you what it was like when
you celebrated the Seahawks Super Bowl forty eight win back
in February twenty for fourteen?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Do you remember what you're doing the parade? Text in
four nine four five one.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
We'll get to that next on m J and in
the Midday ninety three three kJ RFM.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
Okay, Anders, what do you say? Text of the day?
Lead us off?
Speaker 1 (20:15):
And by the way, you can do do a couple
if if you see something you know, just just do
a couple.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
I got one from the four to five This is
for Anders. Which team would you want to win a championship?
Speaker 4 (20:26):
First?
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Between the Edmonton Oilers and the OKC Thunder. Now I
know I hate the Oilers and I despise talking about them.
I despise thinking about them. I despise watching him play hockey.
But it's not close. It's uh, I'd rather them win
than Oka. See so, but I would rather any other
hockey team win than the Edmonton Oilers. Literally, anyone else
(20:48):
Vegas I still hate. I'd rather than win over the Oilers.
I'd rather Toronto win over the Oilers. Honestly, any other
team win other than the Oilers. So h do you
think pretty for the two four two four?
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Oh? Interesting?
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Do you think Party will be under more stress now
that he's actually getting his contract?
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yes, you think so. Yeah, now you're getting paid. You're
on the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
YEP.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
With that comes that level of expectations. You're not Yeah,
you are a seventh round pick. But now that the
forty nine ers have validated the fact that you they
got you for a bargain basement price in the seventh round.
Now you're getting big money. You have to perform. Oh yeah,
that come. That's a big time organization, a big time market.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
All right? About the about that list?
Speaker 1 (21:37):
The Pro Football Network UH power rankings list that came
out after the schedule release from the four to two
five This could be the what do you say?
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Text of the day.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Whoever made this list must submit to mandatory drug screening
because they are either high or incompetent or highly incompetent.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
I like that way creative, love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I uh a couple about Paul Pierce that people did
not like that Paul Pierce stuff.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Or I understand it?
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Oh wow, sorry, go ahead. Oh no, I'm just gonna
read one thing about Paul Pierce. Maybe Paul Pierce, this
is from the two five three should take an English class.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Could understand a thing? He said?
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Harsh, harsh. Yeah, someone said Pierce, what a pos So
you know, I don't think it was that bad, but.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
You know, did you like Paul Pierce who was playing
in the league. But despite the fact that he's playing
for the Celtics.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Here, you know what I talked about. He should be
bigger and he should be better than what he did
that video he was an analyst on ESPN. Yeah, and
he said I'm better than Dwayne Wade.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
And it just makes you.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Look so insecure, like you don't have to say, like listen,
like I told you, ay before the show, We'll open
up the locker room here a little bit. Yeah, I'll
play the wrong picks. I'll beat my chest like King Golla. Right,
but also tell you when I'm wrong, because I'll eat it.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
I'll own it. That's what I gotta do when you say.
And here's the thing. He wasn't better than Dwayne Wade.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
He wasn't and and they so then Jalen Rose so
I'm not a fan of went through the stats the
career like the back of the basketball card of him
and Dwayne Wade blew Away not even so it makes
you look small, petty and insecure.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
One more thing on that list. This is a good
one from the five oh nine. That list sound like
it was written by a crappy AI. Honestly, it kind
of did. It really really did.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
I don't know if that's an AI website because a
lot of websites are going to write the articles. Please
don't do that, hire actual people, right, But yeah it did.
It did sound pretty tough. Two six Gonzaga grad was
that Durant's final Sonic game. Did not root for him
or the Thunder never rooted for Sabonis during his time there.
(23:50):
Love Holmgren, chet Holmgren, but will not root for him.
Thunder hate over Gonzaga love which Wow, I like it. Yeah,
I like so Chet Demontantes Sabonis yep. To former Gonzaga players,
he still hates the thunder more than he likes those players.
So talking about the sports hate versus sports love.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
And by the way, thank you for playing along with us.
I love this one from the two o six Super
Bowl forty eight parade. Skipped school and took the bus
from Covington to Seattle with my future and current wife.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
We weren't dating yet.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
On top of celebrating the Belt to Ask performance by
the Hawks, my wef fell asleep on my shoulder on
the bus ride back. Very memorable for multiple reasons. Gohawks,
So I don't know, for there was a very hallmark
and I think it went a little bit showtime at
two thirty in the morning real quick there. I think
we got a little show time, a little like okay,
(24:43):
there you go.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
Marcus and the two six couldn't care lest about the NBA.
But if I use the Mariners or Hawks as an example,
I think I'd not hate them as much when we
got the team back, no more claiming our history at
that point. So that was an answer to my question
on if this when the Sonics come back, and if
the Thunder win a title when the Sonics are back,
(25:08):
will you hate it as much as you hate them now?
So I don't know. Let us know, I'm kind of
fifty to fifty. I don't know how I feel until
it happens.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
Let's hope it doesn't. No, let's hope it doesn't. Let's
hope it does not.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Could you find out from the two o six what
available bets are here to us in Washington for the
Seahawks for the twenty twenty five season. Yeah, I will
go into that. I'll look into that and another one
from the two oh six. Throw that NFL ranking list
in the damn garbage, absolutely ridiculous. Foh mean, bleep out
of here. Yep, that's funny. Four two five. I'm a
(25:39):
zombie Sonic fan. I don't know what that means.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
I only exist to root against okay, see, and until
we get them back, and when we get the Sonics back,
will still only ever root against the Thunder. Okay, So
you'll root against the Thunder more than you'll root for
the Sonics.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Hey, by the way, I don't mind it. I like it.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
You don't mind it either I like it. Uh, this
is a good one from the two oh six. My
wife was flying our Seahawk flag as we were driving
through Pioneer Square and our convertible Mustang even though it
was freezing.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Oh, that's great. One more on that. A couple of that.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Uh. I was at a watch party at a friend's
house for the three six. So my son was born
nine months later. Do the mad Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
We got it.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
That was a good night. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
By the way, super Bowl and uh and yep there
was super Bowl and fireworks all on the same night.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
One funny because in December eighteenth, twenty twenty two, when
Argentina won the World Cup. You know how much they
go crazy for soccer down there. My wife Argentinian, so
we celebrated that a lot. Good But we saw a
stat that in uh, what was it like September, uh,
which is nine months later than that, they had like
(26:55):
the biggest baby boom right of all time.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Yeah, yeah, it usually put that way.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
People love sports. They have a good time with that
kind of stuff. Anything else you see here?
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Yeah, I got a couple of mark from the two
oh six. Didn't you say before the playoffs started, you
made a big wager in the Thunder to win the championship.
I have a parley for the Thunder to win the
championship and the Mariners to win the division. You can't
bet with your heart. I don't listen right now. Both
bets are looking really good. I did bet on the
Thunder to win the title in Vegas, and I put
(27:28):
a little bit more money on the Nuggets to win
and I had to win that money back yesterday on
the Thunder minus eight and a half in the game
to go over MJ.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
Question for you from the two OHO six.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
My friends and I did the preseason selection of how
many wins the Mariners were have no money, just pride.
So your opinion on allowing adjustments at this point your thoughts.
I said eighty seven and no playoff, no wildcard either.
Before the season began, I said ninety three. I'm gonna
say ninety five to ninety six today.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
The manners, Yeah, yeahoff playoff that oh yeah, if you win, yeah,
if you're in ninety five in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Right, ninety five yeah, definitely ninety five, ninety six.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
Yeah, that's that's high. That's that's one of the that
might be the best record in the AO at this point.
Right now, it's the Detroit Tigers ninety five that might
be the best record in the AI if you get
to that point.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
Yeah, yeah, you got any more.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
A couple here, there was one. I just lost it.
Uh Marcus from the two six. Once again, I only
really disagree with the Jets being ahead of us. We
weren't great last year.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
The Patriots.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
Yeah, two of LIUs Dolphins ot with the Patriots Nicks'
first game and Aaron Rodgers misses a throw he's made
a million times. I don't like center, left tackle or
our wide receiver room. You could say the Seahawks maybe
got a couple lucky dubs in there, but they also
got an unlucky one losing to the Giants. I don't
think they're a worse team than the Giants, so you
(28:56):
can kind of cancel those out saying I I still
don't think they're any worse than a nine win team.
They are no worse than.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
A nine No, No, I don't know at all.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
MJ's all the Boston meat heads eat Crow, Yes they do, MJ.
Now you understand the hatred for the Thunder even more.
The nation needs to know from the two five to
three Toronto loser leaves that's funny ish don't care who
you are, baha.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Two five three and Nick Wolve's final would be nice
because then we can actually see who really won the
trade for the cat.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
That's good point because Dante Devinchenzo and Julius Randall are
balin right now.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Randall is really baling? Yeah? Really? How about this from
the four two five? What do you think about this one? Anders?
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Gino got no love until he left Seattle? How is
he different than Donald? And who did they lose on defense?
Speaker 5 (29:48):
I I don't I don't necessarily disagree with I think
Gino's are probably around the same level as Donald, but
you're paying Donald significantly less, which is why that's an
upgrade in my opinion, because then you can upgrade the
rest of the team and you didn't lose anyone on defense.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
You actually gained people on defense. That's what I mean.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
So I agree with the texture here. There's no way
we're a worse team than women.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
And then Worry's going to be a stunt a stud Yes,
hey four two five, Hey, guys, pfs F is seriously
doubting Darnold's abilities in our defensive side, I'm betting we'll
get ten wins. But it's obvious Vegas and the others
are haters on the Hawks. Our defense will keep us
in games, and it's up to Sam to pull us
across the finish line. Go Hawks, and yes, no way
(30:30):
we're worse than last year. Peace from Everett. Peace from Everett.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Peace from Everett.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Leafs haven't won a Cup since the NHL only had
six teams. Francis needs to be on the horn with
Martyrs Agent as soon as it's legal two l six
or you know, there's ways to circumvent that. And you
have like buffers like the Godfather where they where they're
doing at the trial. Their Godfather too goes you were
a buffer. He goes, you know what I mean? Senator, No,
(30:57):
I don't know what you mean. Yeah, the family that'll
of buffers. You get a buffer there. All right, this
is probably, I promise you's the last one, okay from
the three six. So I am not happier when my
hated teams lose, but the magnitude of my sadness and
anger when the teams I hate win is greater than
the magnitude of the happiness when my teams win. Okay,
(31:21):
also I hate the f and Eagles man, so think
about what he said there. I'm not happier when my
hated teams lose, but the magnitude of my sadness and
anger when the teams I hate win is greater than
the magnitude of happiness when my teams win.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
By the way, I appreciate that.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Yeah, it's it's some more like relief when they raise
than like you're celebrating, right right, Oh, thank god the
thunder loss. We don't have to think about that. But
if they win, you're gonna be so angry.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Yeah, no, all right, all right, we appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
I'm gonna go with the Whoever made the list is
either high or incompetent. They need to submit to drug
testing or they're highly incompetent. That's the what do you say?
Text of the day coming up next. Wow, we don't
see this guy in studio this time of the day.
He's in for the mayor, mister Dick Fane. We'll talked
about Scotty Scheffler and some other things. Mister Fane coming
(32:08):
up next on Mjay and the Midday Cross talk naughty
three to three kJ.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
R f M.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
All right, Dick Fane in here getting ready for the Sounder.
A should mean not the Sounders, the storm. The Storm
Sounders is your producer, you know me? Do you know
why you're doing so for the Storm today? Before I
want to thank Everett Fits you for coming on today.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
What do you think of Scotty Scheffler?
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Went it all?
Speaker 7 (32:38):
I think Scotty Scheffler is Is he the best in
the world right now?
Speaker 6 (32:41):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (32:41):
Yeah, He's been the best in the world for a
couple of years. And his his ball striking, his approach
game is Tiger Woods. The only thing that doesn't make
him Tiger Woods is he doesn't put like Tiger. He doesn't,
you know, he doesn't have the link that Tiger had,
you know, in regards to the rest of the in
the rest of the world. But his ball striking, his
one hundred and twenty five, one hundred and seventy five
(33:02):
yard shots, I mean you can you can look it up.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
You can.
Speaker 7 (33:05):
There are there is data, There is strokes game data
on that distance. He is Tiger Woods from that distance.
That is how good he is.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Well, he's solidifying him in terms of what he's done
and he I think he's did he win if I'm
not mistake. I saw that he's won two Masters or
Masters and PGA, so both like at a young age twenty,
so he's putting before thirty. I saw he was like
up there with the Jack Nicholt. I'm like, you started
getting to that company. It's like you are now starting
(33:33):
to become him, and maybe it is him on that
and uh.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
He's gonna win an Open, He's gonna win a US
Open to He's perfectly suited for the US.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Open, so he'll get he'll get a Grand Slam.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
I don't think he'll ever win the British No, I
just don't think he'll ever win the British but I
think he'll he'll absolutely win at least one US.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Well, what makes him not right for the British Open?
Speaker 7 (33:51):
There are too many other guys, particularly Europeans, that play
that link style golf, that just know how to play it.
And and that's the one that's the one major that
the rest of the world can really compete in, you know.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
And what's how much style?
Speaker 1 (34:06):
Does that differentiate from the American style a lot?
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Because Americans hit the long high ball. You know, and
those links players like Shane Lowry is a perfect example.
Lynks player, bad weather guy, hits a low running drive.
You know, he'll he'll carry it only like two forty
but it'll run forty five yards on the links courses right,
and you know he just has the undulating greens. You know,
the one hundred and twenty foot putts. You don't have
(34:31):
one hundred and twenty foot puts in America. Let's Chambers
Ules's hear Chambers Bay. That's the only place you got
one hundred and twenty foot putt in America.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Hey, I will tell you about I don't know what
year it was, maybe twenty twelve ish. They had a
major tournament at Quail Hollow. We were broadcasting live from there.
I want to say maybe it was the PGA Championship
or might have just been their regular tournament.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Jim Nantz was there, so I think it was the
pg event. Yeah, but quil Hollow is so freaking nice.
Oh Ron rivera former Panthers coach, used to live on
that that course, used to live on the freaking course.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
The courses out in that area. Pinehurst in North Carolina.
We went over there too, to broadcast.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
We were there for ACC media days and like, yeah, man,
that's that's way away from Charlotte.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
But it's oh my god, it's like, oh I can't.
Speaker 7 (35:18):
I mean, yeah, my son, my son qualified to play
at Pinehurst last summer, but he only qualified like two
weeks before the tournament. Yeah, you have to get a
certain score to qualify, and I was like, ah, well,
we'll just go next year, right, Well, it turned out
he moved up in age groups, so now the qualifying
score is lower before. So I was like, well, but
if you haven't mean, if we're ever ever gonna get
the piners, you got to go lower.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Now, I know, I know, I know.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
It's uh yeah, congratulations to Dixon Fame going.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
To State, by the way to find that out, don't
worry about it. I do my homework Mountain near Golf.
Speaker 7 (35:51):
I you follow mariar Golf on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
I mean, no, hold on, hold on a second to Dixon,
Fane and Colden. Dad's going to State. So I just
wanted to con you. You've done you and I'm sure
it was mostly your better half, your missus Fane. You
guys did a really great job.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (36:09):
Well tomorrow I'm driving a Hawk's prairie getting back for
the show. I'm gonna do the same thing on Wednesday.
By the way, I totally threw a curveball Audi. You
no idea what he's going there? No idea?
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Yeah, how about that soft Ye see, I know more
about your co host than you do.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
True, you're not wrong.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Oh so anyway, thunder winning, Yeah, I mean like you
just knew what was gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Absolutely. I mean, it's just they're a wagon dick.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
They are.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
They're a wagon man. You know what the Tea Wes
they could do it.
Speaker 7 (36:43):
The Tee Wolves are a deeper, more physical Denver. Now
they don't have Joe Yo Kidchen, but they got more
good pieces than Denver.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Here's just going to be the key for them. We
know what a man can do. Jaa McDaniel naz Red
former Nicks, former former Knicks. Well, and not only that,
Rudy Gobar, Rudy go Bear is gonna be big. Gonna
need him to be big. He's gonna defensively, not offensively.
You're gonna need Rudy to be big. They got a chance.
I told our big boss CrossFit Mark, who's a big
(37:15):
who was born and racing in Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
I said, do what my Knicks did in Boston.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
If you get game one, try to get obviously, get
that game one. Don't be satisfied until we got to split.
Let's go back home get game two, because that's how
I knew. And we got that game because I didn't
even think after game one. I'm like, after Game two, I'm.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Like, we could win this series.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
I still don't think we'd win it, but I'm like,
you know, but like, yeah, you know, so there's that.
All I know is this. Everybody out here in Seattle
root for the Tables. We know that, and you better
root for the Knicks because the Pacers got no chance
against the thunder.
Speaker 4 (37:49):
I think the Knicks have a better chance. I'll give
you that.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
And by the way, hey, how much does the NBA
need to fix this series to make sure the Knicks
get there?
Speaker 4 (37:56):
You don't want India, you don't want to.
Speaker 7 (38:00):
In and okay, see'd be a fun series for basketball chunkies,
but for just you know, Joe Joe in Bellevue.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
That just wants to turn it on.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
No, all right, Dick fan coming up next to the
mayor Maple Valley. Maybe he'll also bag on the loser
leaf say Toronto, here's where we're looking at you. You're
the new Chicago Cubs Toronto lous re leafs coming next,
and he guess what you got?
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Coming up?
Speaker 4 (38:23):
Walter Jones at.
Speaker 7 (38:24):
Two o'clock and we got the We got Nathan Bishop
on a little Molly wopping a couple of seconds.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
Christ Monday Show. Where is it? Chris Crawford? What the
hell is going on there?
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Man?
Speaker 4 (38:38):
You know he's got some other stuff going. But I
like him.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
I want as much as possible. I like Chris Crawford
a lot. All right, man, Dick Fan coming up next
to the Mayor. We will see you tomorrow, Andrews. Great job, buddy,
he was always Tomorrow. The Tony Cornheiser calls him the
greatest sports columnists of all time. Bob Ryan will join
me tomorrow and UH Mariners blogger Luke Arkins Arkins. Luke
(39:03):
Arkins will also join us tomorrow on MJ in the midday.
Stay tuned next for Dick Fane right here in for
the Mayor on Sports Radio ninety three to three k
