Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Astros bring them down to reality. Taking three out
of four down in Houston and outscoring them sixteen to
four in those losses. Is is something that maybe Dan
Wilson and Jerry Depoto needs to push the panic button
or just say okay, we're third way the season and
(00:21):
nothing to see here.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, you know, I think if it weren't the Astros,
you probably wouldn't feel quite exactly were they. I think
they dropped three in Toronto or against Toronto, and it's
kind of weird, but you weren't thinking it was it
meant much more than it did. I think the Astros
are always somebody that makes them worried. They'll they prove
they don't have to. And I you know the way
that Mariners started the season, they probably can handle the
(00:47):
Astros this year. But think until they do it enough
that you know, all right, we're having really good again,
you know all those things.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, so yeah, you cut out the last twelve seconds
what you said, it kind of cut out. You're a
little bit of a bad seal zone or whatever. Can
you repeat that?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah? Sorry, hopefully you can hear me. Hopefully I get
out of that series.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, I just think until they until they beat the
Astros in a meaningful way at the you know, are
standing hire in the standings at the end of the year.
I think you're always going to read into those series.
I think maybe you're not equipped to Vita.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, you know, Chelsea, it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
So I went back and looked at this team in
terms of going back to where the Astros' success started
in twenty seventeen and since that season, Chelsea James, the
record of the Mariners versus Houston including the twenty twenty
two playoffs is fifty four and eighty seven, with a
(01:40):
less than thirty percent winning percentage, shocking or not shocking
so much, and goes to what I was saying before
is that they just have Seattle's number.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, it's a thing, you know, It's like definitely a thing.
It's one of those those things where like in any
one of those years, especially the last few, I think,
you know, the Mariners probably looked a lot better on paper.
You know, the Astros are always going to pitch, but
so sore the Mariners. You know, they shouldn't be that
lopside it, and it is. And I think until you
prove to yourselves as the Mariners that it's not you know,
(02:13):
in a really meaningful way. It's always going to feel
that way. And you know, the Assas are just they
just will not go away. They just will not die.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
I thought last year was the heere. I thought this
year was the here, but maybe it's coming. But man,
they are they must be a huge pest. Have indivision.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
So when you've seen what you've looked at so far
on this year's Manners team Chelsea, what is something that
you think is a sort of an alarm for concern
that Obviously we know the injuries with especially in the
starting rotation with Logan Gilbert. Obviously they just got back
to George Kirby Bryce Miller on the IL and so
(02:52):
that's a.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Little bit of concern.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
And the hitting's cooled off a little bit, Like I mentioned,
in the three losses in Houston, they're outscored sixteen to four.
So what do you I think things that Dan Wilson
and Edgar Martinez can do just to kind of get
this team because at one point Chelsea, like about a
month ago, they're averaging five runs a game.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, I think that offensive EBB and flow is going
to be something they have to manage and they, you know,
seem to have to every year. I think they've looked
a lot better this year, and from the outside certainly.
You know, there were times in April where you looked
up and we're like, wow, are they are they hitting?
You know, are they hitting better than their pitching? But
you know, I don't think they're built to, you know,
be an offensive juggernaut. But that doesn't mean that they're
(03:31):
not going to be good enough. You know, I think
the injuries to the pitching staff are concerning largely. You know,
obviously they're always concerning, But if that puts pressure on
an offense that isn't necessarily equipped to handle added pressure,
then that's where you get these kind of spirals like
what the Oriols has been through. It's just they're always
from behind. They couldn't make up for it, and the
offense tried too hard and they lost it. I mean,
(03:51):
I think, you know, that's kind of been sort of
a Mariner's experience of times over the last few years.
So that's you know, I think the offense won't be
a cause for concern until it's not. But you know
that that rotation, even with the injuries it's it's so
good that you know, hopefully they can kind of keep
riding that in the bullpen as they have in your past.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, there's no question about it. Chelsea.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Jane's showing us National Baseball reporter from the Washington Post,
and it's good to talk to you, Chelsea, because, like
I said, it's been the first time I locked on
and look who's in town now, the Gnats. The Gnats
come in town for that that that tremendous Inner League
series that everyone's been waiting for, you the.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Washington the Washington Showdown of sorts, I guess.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Right, right right, So, like, what can you tell us
in terms of what we've seen of the Gnats, which
isn't a whole heck of a lot this year.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
You know what I would describe them as like if
Victor Roblace were a team, I think.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
You know, they're they're a little bit too fearless. They're
very aggressive, and they're kind of too young, too kind
of frivolous to know what they can't do. So you'll
see a lot of a regressiveness on the basis you're
going to see some strings of some crazy pitches.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
But C. D Abrams, James would you know, really really talented.
James wood Is is unbelievable, and you know, I'm sure
that people will get a glimpse of that there. But
they've got a lot of young talent, but it's inconsistent,
and every once in a while, every every game I
would say, something happens where you're like, oh, that was dumb.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
So that's kind of where they are.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
And but they're good, and they're they're starting pitching isn't
better than I think people think. Mitchell Parker, who goes tonight,
has been the most inconsistent of them, so that, you know,
maybe that's kind of a good matchup for the Mariners.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
But yeah, they're they're fun, but they are figuring.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Out how to be a consistent Major League baseball team
right now.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
You know, obviously you mentioned Victor Roeblist, who's out if
he decides against surgery's going to be out for the
rest of the season. Luke Railey has been hurt for
a long time, still waiting for Logan Gilbert, which hopefully
will be coming back soon. And now there's talk I've
seen in some circles here Chelsea the Mariners are considering
going to a six man rotation. Starting rotation. Is that
(06:02):
something that you think would be wise for Dan Wilson
and this team to do, or do you think would
you be more adamant to stick with the classic five
man rotation, which going into this season was obviously Logan Gilbert,
George Kirby, Luis Castillo, Brian wu and Emerson Hancock.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
You know, I think a six man rotation is very
smart verb for teams that have really good starting pitching.
I think anything you can try to preserve that as
long as you can is the right thing to do.
Because as the Mariners are seeing this year, as the
Dodgers seem to see every year like it, just the
(06:44):
rotations just don't hold up. But I think maybe Seattle's
been really lucky almost in recent years, you know comparison,
So you know what, especially with the young pitching they
have coming up, you know, if they feel like those
guys can kind of be consistent enough and they can
absorb some of drowing pains, I think it makes a
lot of sense, especially with those bads coming off injury.
I mean, you know, saving Kirby some innings now I
(07:07):
think is a great idea. I mean, it looks a
lot smarter if you make the playoffs, a few save
innings for those guys. But you know, they've they've had
really consistent seasons the.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Last few years.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
They've put a lot of innings on those arms, and
you know, I think it makes sense to me that
you kind of do what you can to make sure
they're there when you really need them.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
This team looks a little bit different Chelsea from last year.
Last year, like we were talking about that they're a
team that you heavily relied on that that those starters,
and if you got down to nothing or three to one, Chelsea,
it was like it's over.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
It's different this year.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
They lead Major League Baseball with the most come back
victories in the game right now, and so you're starting
to see this team be a little resilient. That being said,
they're twenty first in the league in batting average right
now at two thirty eight, and it's like, oh, hold
on a second, that you just kind of figure that,
wait a second, maybe we're not quite right now. They're
(07:58):
eleventh in ops, which is certainly that's a metric that
you certainly can't discount. But it's like, I just I
don't know sometimes that it's like those mirror images of
twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four show up, specifically
Chelsea they got shut out just five days ago in
(08:18):
Chicago versus the White Sox, and you're like, yeah, man,
this team, Like, man, I don't know if that twenty
four team is truly gone yet.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yes, it's hard to say. I mean, you know, as
someone who watches them regularly but not every night, it
certainly looks like the guys who are getting well for
them are not getting you know, a Rosaina and I
mean copper Cent and I hope yes right now, Like
it's not crazy that those guys are doing that. So
it's not like you look at it and you say,
(08:52):
you know, who are these people? I mean, Tolanto's been
really good and maybe, you know, at the beginning of
the season was better than you thought you would be.
But it doesn't seem crazy to me that they would be.
You'll have the eleventh highest Opus. It almost you know,
Calvell is really good hitter, Like there's names there now
and maybe they're figuring out how to kind of I
don't know, I mean, resilience matters. I would say, you know,
(09:14):
I've watched the Oriels a lot lately and that's the
team with a lot of really good hitters who are
not super resilient right now. So finally hitting you know,
to the sense that you can find it. Maybe it's
hard to quantify, but if it's there this year, you know,
that's that's really good because that means that it's you know,
there's a confidence there that that I don't think has
been there in the years past, and testa times that's
all the case, But I don't look at their offense
(09:35):
and think, you know, wow, they're grossly overachieving. There's this
huge gift coming. I mean, because a lot of the
guys in those lineups had histories. But it certainly is
like a fear. I think that they'll always you know,
people who watch them all the time will have It's like,
is this for real? Are they actually like a little
bit better? Can we can we give a few runs
here and there? And yeah, you know so far, I
would say yes, but you know, the history hasn't been
(09:55):
there for sure.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
What is your overall assessment? Because a lot of people
here were waiting, and we're waiting and he came into
the league and he got off to a really good
start in only one hundred and thirty two games, and
then he had a career year his second season in
Major League baseball, and then last year certainly was a
down year. I'm talking about Julio Rodriguez. This year he
seems to sort of getting you know, he starts off
(10:19):
slow and then he starts to pick it up in
May and then morn June. But Chelsea, I mean, I
you every it seems like you go to a Mariners
game at T Mobile Park, every third person's wearing a
forty four jersey.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Right, and he's got that. You know, he looks like
a start.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
But you're waiting for that consistency, which is tough to
really do for Julio. So where would you rank him
if you were doing tiers of stars? And obviously you'd
put Otani and prior to this season so too. But
Otani and Aaron Judge are just on a level of
tier one. And where would Julio rank for you in
(11:00):
terms of the best players in baseball in your tiers?
Speaker 6 (11:05):
You know?
Speaker 2 (11:05):
The interesting thing about that question is I think there's
a he might have the biggest disconnect of any player
between where I would put him star wise and what
he's accomplished. I think he has like you mentioned, like
the star aura is there and you sort of associate
him with the ability to do crazy stuff, and you know,
in my brain he's a thirty thirty candidate every year,
but that hasn't really been true at all, as you
(11:28):
guys know, so I think, like for me, he's in
a third type tier. You know, maybe not in like
the Bryce Harper level and maybe slightly below that kind
of group, but still a really you know, a guy
you expect to see it every El Star game, a
guy you know whose name you would hear in the
home run derby every year, and things that makes sense,
you know, like if you doubt the star power there,
(11:49):
maybe at Elie de la Cruz level star power, but
the performance hasn't been there. And I mean it's not
hard to understand how that would be really stressful for
a young guy, and from what I know of him,
that's something he kind of shoulders, and you know, so
it's weird. He's just got such incredible star power, like
you said, in a town that loves that, you know,
that needs that and seem to get it. I think
(12:12):
he'll figure it out. I think, you know, that pressure
is really tough, but I certainly think he would benefit from,
you know, a really established hitter. Besides, you know, I
know Rally is good, but maybe a veteran who just
comes in says, hey, man, like this isn't all you
all the time, because I think that's what a lot
of young players get stuck with. And you know, Monsto,
for example, had a lot of superstars the lineup. When
he came up. He didn't have to do anything. He
(12:33):
didn't have to do anything, so he was always exceeding expectations,
and you know, you really have to protect guys like
that so they don't experience what I think, you know,
Julio's experience.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
For excellent points by you, Chelsea very Well said ninety
fifth currently in OPS one, twenty one in batting average
in baseball right now, so just far below and it's
like you're constantly waiting, and you're waiting, like, you know what,
maybe this is just going to be who he is
at the end of the day that you know. I mean,
he's so young though, that's the thing. I mean, the
(13:03):
guy's he's you know, he's twenty four this season's going
to turn twenty five at the end of the year,
so you know, his trajectory is certainly through that could
be through the roof. But when you wait and you wait,
and then eventually Chelsea, like I said, it's like what
happens when the narrative becomes a fact and the fact
becomes a verdict.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yes, exactly exactly, And I think you know he's he's
far from that because he is still really really young.
But it makes you wonder if there's some kind of
change organizationally or something would help him. Definitely the kind
of guy you wish could get a change of scenery,
but probably won't because I think stuff like that really
helps in these situations where it just feels like you
(13:46):
can't break through the tension that has built up.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
No question about it. Chelsea.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
You can follow her on Twitter Underscore Chelsea, That's Sea, Underscore,
Jane's JA and e s follow her on Twitter. She
is certainly a must follow in a tremendous guest. We
always love talking and Chelsea, let's do it again sooner
than later. Oh, I can't let you go Chelsea without
asking you why did you get booed at Turner Field?
Speaker 3 (14:13):
What happened?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
You know? I was obviously a while after got a
foul ball in the press box, and then I saw
kid up to my left, so instead of like trying
to just drop it to a fan, I tried to
throw at the kid. And the throw was so bad
that it looked like I purposely like set this kid
up and like slung it over his head to make him,
you know, feel bad that he wasn't actually getting the
boll So it was like it looked malicious, but it
(14:35):
was just complete incompetence. So I got booed and rightfully though,
and rightfully so it was it was embarrassing.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Well, you know what's amazing is that they actually probably
showed more emotions towards you than most of the years
they did towards the Braves, so that actually, you know, Chelsea,
you will listen to a stronger emotion from those fans
than all those years at Turner Field when the Braves
were playing.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
So you did you.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Did something there, But no, that's a great story. No,
I know that wasn't You would never be that. You
just give you So you tried throwing he was was
he like an upper was he a little like was
he like a okay, I'm trying to.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Pick him right, I should have like he was kind
of in a deck that was just a few feet
hires where we were, and I just like completely airmailed it.
But I thought it was gonna be something cool. That
was the problem. So you know last time I tried that.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
That's a great story, Chelsea, listen, we appreciate you joining us.
And hey man, you know what we've seen guys who
get paid you know, anywhere between twenty to even Juan
Soto fifty one million dollars a year, who are airmailing things.
You got nothing to be ashamed of, Like I said,
so I never you know, it's weird. I lived in Atlanta,
but I by the time I moved out was when
(15:45):
they built their brand new park at the Battery there
at Truest Park.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
I got to check that place out. I heard.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
I've driven right outside it, but I've never gone to
a game there, so I got to check that out.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
It's fresh, it's fresh, but it's no Turner field. That
place had care, for sure, it did.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
It did.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Even if you knew that when you were walking to
the media parking lot, you could have gotten robbed.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
It's it did have character, Chelsea.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
You know what I'm talking about, right, Oh my goodness,
It's so funny. I remember one night they they were
giving away Hank Aaron bobbleheads, and my phone's pull up. Dude,
you gotta get me one. Dude, you gotta get me one.
I'm like, can you get me one? Can you get
me one? So I kept going in and going out
to my car. I kept going and I'm like and
then like the third time I did it, I was like, Okay, guys,
(16:32):
I almost, like literally, I felt very uncomfortable. I was
about to get mugged. This is what I've got. I
got sinks at six Hank Aaron bobbleheads. Here's who's getting them.
And that's it. I'm not losing my life for one
of you guys to get a Hank Aaron bobblehead.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
No, totally not a place. I was going to wait
for a new berth for very long.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
No, no, no, thankfully not. You could do that at
Truest Park, though you can do it there. So yeah,
but uh hey, Chelsea, are you in town for the
series two or no?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
I am not. Unfortunately, I would love to be. I
love Seattle.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Yeah yeah, and by the way, best, let me tell
you something I learned this being here nearly four months.
For the last seven weeks, Chelsea, We've got northeast fall
football weather for seven straight weeks. This whole thing about
Seattle having bad weather, it's just it's it's all basically
nothing more than a like a complete total hype thing,
(17:27):
so more people won't move here.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
But let me tell you something.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
The weather here has been absolutely off the chain fall
football weather for seven straight weeks.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
It's been amazing.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
So, yeah, you gotta get some chocolate cover grasshoppers next time.
Become the T mobile park.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
I heard of that.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Yeah, all right, all right, there you go.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Thanks Chelsea, you appreciate it. Thanks, all right, Chelsea. Jaane's there. Yeah,
you know, happens to the best of us. Shaboodeat Turner Field.
That's hilarious. What do you say? Text of the day? Four, nine,
four or five one? Next on MJ in the MIDA
Sports Radio ninety three to three kJ R F.
Speaker 4 (18:03):

Speaker 4 (18:14):

Speaker 3 (18:21):
What do you say?
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Texts of the Day brought to you by free agent
free agent from the three six Z mark, I give
you ten to one odds that you can't actually find
who owns the Mariners, like the whole ownership group.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Nobody knows. Okay.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
The joke that I put out earlier about Chris Rock
stating we need bullies, I guess a couple have seen it,
so they were right on. Chris Rock is one hundred
percent right, we need more bullies. I'll have to show
you it.
Speaker 7 (18:50):
Have you seen it?
Speaker 2 (18:51):
No?
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I haven't seen it. But he's a comedian, and comedians
can get right.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
No, no, no, but there's some real gems in there. It's
not as oh, so it's not he's just trying to
be funny. He's trying to be funny. He is being funny, right,
but he's also giving inside us. I see, is he
kind of let me just ask a quick question. Is
he kind of insinuating that today's generation is getting soft?
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Exactly? Okay? Bingal? Then I see what you mean? Perfect? Yes, perfect?
All right? I like is that? What was that the
one you're reading? Correct?
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (19:19):
I want to add some context exactly like that?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (19:22):
I like that, kid, I like that two five three
forty three years ago, I worked on the construction mansion
bordering the north side of Denny Blaine Park.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
During the summer.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
It was exclusively a topless sometimes bottomless I won't read
the one thing in those times, and I ate lunch
in the stone wall every day. I had some really
good conversations with the patrons of the park and it
seemed to be a very quiet, serene place from Gordon Gordon, Well, listen,
it's pretty serene. And you know what I mean, Like,
you go there, and you know, like I said, man,
(19:52):
you'll get an eyeful.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
You'll get an eyeful from the three six.
Speaker 6 (19:55):
So watching the Manners every year is like watching Gilligan's
Island and thinking they're final only getting off this time.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Old skill.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
So hey, by the way, for those of you, uh
a kid, and that was before my time, but like
I knew of it because my parents watched it. Just
never mind, it's an old show. But that's funny though
it's still funny.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
MJ.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
You obviously haven't been to Medina or Hunt's Point yet.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
No, I have not.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
I have not, neither have I. But I will not
go now. Actually I'm not going to get into this
any who. This next one comes from three six. Oh, Mark,
i'd give you ten to one odd that you can't
actually find who.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
Owns the man?
Speaker 3 (20:38):
I've just read that one.
Speaker 7 (20:39):
I want to read it again.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Oh you want to read again? Okay? It is so good?
Speaker 6 (20:42):
Yes, okay, before you interrupt it. No, that's fine, Mark,
We're going times two from the three six?
Speaker 2 (20:47):
All right?
Speaker 7 (20:48):
Ten to one odds? Are you gonna take that?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Uh no, I'm not touching it. I'm not touching it.
He's actually probably right.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
I'm not.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
If anyone's willing to give me ten to one odds,
they know something I don't.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
This is from the four two five. Would take Cortes
Kennedy any day over Aaron Donald.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
I don't hate it. But guess what rest in power
ninety six? Listen, man, it was a different time, but man,
Aaron Donald was like yo, he was the goat.
Speaker 7 (21:16):
Did you see that gym taking on four linemen?
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
He did?
Speaker 7 (21:19):
He still won.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
I did from the three six to so hey bring
up Perry Ford in DFA Garver.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Oh someone just mentions, thankfully that was the thing I forgot.
You just triggered something, but in a good way, in
a good way. I'm gonna read this text, and I'm
gonna go into my rant here. Bring up Perry Ford
in DFA Garver. I know he had a nice double
the other day, but his at bats are horrible most
of the time. The Mariners won't because there's they owe
too much contract money, but they should. The other day
(21:47):
in a game, it was the eighth inning, Julio was
in in scoring position, he was on second base, there
was two outs.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
What does Garver do?
Speaker 1 (21:56):
He takes another called third strike after doing it in
the last series against the White Sox. One dude, if
you've got two strikes and a runners in scoring position
and you can tie or take the lead, swing the
freaking Batgarver.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
My god, that was the thing.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
I oh, that was my number one thing I completely
omitted in my monologue today. Swing the bat. You are
so right about his app Batch, they are awful. And
then he looks at the umpire with this constipated look
on his face, like, eugh, it was over the zone,
you idiot. Swing the bat.
Speaker 6 (22:37):
I don't know how to read this text after that
rant from the two ozh six mark weather situation in
the Seattle area is like talking about the fight club.
We don't talk about our weather to outsiders. It sucks Codin,
it rains all the time. Here, stick to the story. Yes,
fair enough, forgot it? Madonna, my bad Medina. Uh, let's
(22:58):
see here, let's see do. Let's be honest. If you
know Hoops, you know that the East is playing for
second place. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's true.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
It pretty much is. No one's I don't think anyone's beating. Okay.
Speaker 6 (23:12):
See from the two five three Garrett Mariners minus one
and a half book.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
It Mariner's minus one and a half today. Okay, yeah,
all right, uh okay.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
So from Kathleen, one of our favorites. Kathleen says, Mark happity.
Here you're take on bullying. In the beginning, I thought
you were glad.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
I was wrong. Yes you are.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
No bullyings to not be allowed. I see where Chris
Rock is coming from. Though, I see where Chris Rock's
coming from. I'll tell you the clip and no, no, no,
he's funny. Two O six. Angel Reese is a value
Village w NBA. Talent looks good at first, then you
notice the imperfections and overall basic nature of the item.
She's nothing special. Chris and beering. Wow, wow that here
(24:00):
you value village.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
I oh man, oh boy, oh boy. Uh you got one.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Market yes from last one for me from the four
two five. The problem is gambling. It's an addiction. Professional
leagues promote gambling and are sponsored by it and make
billions off of it. Radio, TV shows talk about it
and dedicate entire shows and segments to it.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
It's literally everywhere in sports.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
But there's a warning gamble responsibility, so no one has
any liability or guilt when lives are destroyed. And maybe
that's how it should be, but nobody should be surprised
when there's addicts out there doing addictive things. It's not
about the money for them, it's about the need to gamble.
M Well say, that's true. That's a good, good point.
(24:48):
Uh what is MJ talking about? Head to head with
the Astros and Chelsea did not and did not prep
in the last two years, the twenty twenty three and
twenty twenty four, there're seventeen to nine and it's only four,
four and three this season. Well, in the last two
years twenty three and twenty four, they are seventeen and nine.
This year they're three and four. But since twenty seventeen,
(25:10):
I went with a larger sample size. They're fifty four
and eighty seven including the playoffs. So she's right, and
she did prep and she was excellent.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
How about this from the two five to three, Maybe
Travis Hunter signed his assets and income over to his
mother like that football star from PSG when his wife
divorced him, she got nothing since he was technically broke. Brilliant, brilliant.
I didn't know this. Oh that's the text of the day.
That has gotta be the text of the day. I
(25:40):
did not know that. Wow, whoo oh wow, that's good
for the guy from PSG was technically broke because the
mom had everything.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
That's great. That is wonderful. All right, So those are
that is the what you say text of the day.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
People saying, yeah, yeah, people are. People are kind of
going with you man about the needing more bullies. But
what in the Chris Rock context what you're saying. Yes,
and I'll sell you the video because it's a lot
to it. But I think people that I've seen it
know exactly what I'm referring to, which is fair.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
If you disagree, I'm not saying you're wrong.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
There's just ways that we can go about society and
realizing things at a younger age as opposed to Oh
I'm forty and this is what happens and whatever.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
You get my point? Yeah, no, no, no, I get your point.
Last one.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
I want to get one more on Garver. Garver's already
defeated in his own mind when he comes to the play.
It seems that way. You can't leave your bat on
your shoulders, especially, and he did it again. He did
it again over the weekend. I think on Friday or no.
One only been Sunday. It was Julia was on second base,
that a chance to get going, and he just looks
back at the It was on the zone, it was
(26:55):
in the zone.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Swing Just swing. I don't care if you miss. Just
swing the damn.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
There's nothing that drives me more than when people take
a call third strike and let's it's over your head
or basically in the ground.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Swing at it. Swing. That's it.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Michael Greens with me and the Mitch Garve experiences over
Eat the money, amen, Michael, Amen, for real, I'm over that.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
I've just I've had it with this guy. I've absolutely
had it.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Man.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Just eat the freaking money and let's get freaking Cole
young up here asap. Let's get him up here and
getting DFA Garver. All right, Coming up next, we will
do cross talk with the mayor, Ian Fernest next right
here on MJY in the Midday Sports Radio ninety three
to three KJRFM. All right, thanks to former NBA rogue
(27:49):
official Tim donnihey for stopping by Chelsea James.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
She was great.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
And tomorrow Steve Phillips, former Major League Baseball general manager,
will join us and we'll talk about the Mariners and
what he thinks of Julio Rodriguez and more to come.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Good to see you, mayor.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
I know you, hopefully you and your family had a
great weekend, Ian and nothing gets by you.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
But I got to ask you this.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Did you see that Sean Kemp is going to stand
trial for that shooting at Tacoma Mall?
Speaker 4 (28:17):
I did? I did see that. Yes, it's an interesting story.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
So somebody robbed him, is right? They broke into his car, okay, right?
Speaker 4 (28:27):
And they and you know he they were at and
I guess there was an issue with that same Well,
first of all, the two guys that were involved are
lengthy criminal history. Why they're out that's another topic. But
lengthy criminal history. You know, Sean Kemp's an easy guy
to see in spot, you know. And they were celebrating
(28:50):
I think it was the one year anniversary of the
Sodo pot shop being open. And they were down in
Soto at the at the showbox, and you know, the
kind of an easy target. They broke in. He had
to find my friend or find my phone thing and
chased him down. And yeah, man, don't you know Sean's
in the wrong. You don't shoot, you know, shoot guys up.
He says, they shot first. You know, it's a he say,
(29:12):
he said, she said. Thing live in a world of
all cash business and all that. I just I don't know, man.
I tend to look at who he was going after
and why he's going after him, and and.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Uh but here we are. Well it was updated this morning.
This is according and here to the Seattle Time. Sean
Kemp PLEDs pleads guilty to second degree assault Okay and
Pierce County Superior Court for shooting at two men inside
a Toyota floor runners.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
So a plea deal, probably avoid jail, right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
I would hope, So, I hope.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
So had he been convicted, he could have faced a
lengthy criminal sentence. So the maximum penalty for second degree
assault is so all right, it looks so oh, it
looks like the standard sending something range for secondary assault
in this case is three to nine months with one
year of community customer.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
So I listen. I met the guy back in February.
I've never seen someone who's more of a class act.
There was a two hour line at swin Amish Casino,
and the thing that amazed me the most, Mayor was
just the fact that, like, you got a son who's
in college right now, right, just graduate, just graduate younger.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Than your son, ian younger than your son.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Were in line and I talked to him like, I go,
hold at eighteen, I'm like, how do you know You like, well,
you know, we know it, and they're just yeah, no.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
But I'm just like and I'm like, and you want him?
Speaker 1 (30:36):
They go yes, And that to me is amazing about
these kids and how the respect and admiration they have
for someone who last game he played in Seattle was
in nineteen ninety seven.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Yeah, and kind of like Gary kind of didn't have
didn't leave on the best of terms. A lot of
guys don't leave on the best of terms when the
leave an organization. But you know, Sean is an iconic, iconic.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Film in the town, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
And I listen again, don't pull it, you know, shooting
somebody's car and all of that because they stole your stuff.
Like there's he's for sure in the wrong. I get
all that. I'm asking myself a thousand times and again,
why these two knuckleheads? You know we're out in the
first place. But that's you know, that's where we live
in right now. Sean the basketball player of the Sonic
(31:23):
is iconic. You know, he's not without regret. You know,
his transgressions, he certainly had those over the years, you know,
Softy and I did. I kind of tried to do
a show with him for a long time, not a
long time, a long time ago. We were at the
old studio, so it was it was a ways back,
and and he wasn't the most dependable. I'll just say that.
Sometimes he showed up and nobody's had more flat tires
(31:44):
in their life in this guy, you know. But but
when we did do a show with it, it was
the three of us, it was you know, really well received.
People love just hearing him tell stories, and yeah, hopefully
hopefully they that he can put this behind him, and
and uh and what have you. But yeah, iconic, iconic figure.
And I always watch guys like you know, we always
want to compare it, to do the compare game. And
I think there's some guys you can compare and some
(32:05):
guys you can't. We go back in time. This guy was.
He looks like today's NBA player and not a lot
of guys did back then. You know, he was every
bit of six ten, every bit of six of two
fifty at the time, cut, I mean, explosive and had
a decent mid range game, had all the things that
you would have for today's you know, guys that are
that size, right and and uh so yeah, no fun guy,
(32:29):
uh Sean's and I'm sure listen when the NBA comes back,
Sean and Gary will you know, there'll be a big
presence at slut Climate Pledge and all that. And they
already are for hockey games, you see, those guys that
are a lot of those guys are all the time.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
So, as part of his pleague, M cannot possess a
firearm and will be required to provide a biological sample.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
For a law enforcement DNA database.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
So there it is, Well, he probably, I'll be honest
with you, you probably shouldn't have a gun if you're chasing guys.
There's if you're chasing guys out the two five three
area code, you probably with you know, waving your weapon around.
It's probably it's probably doing everybody good to you know,
you can put the put the the firearmore way Chanel like, right, man,
you don't need that, all right, Yeah, you don't need that.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
No, No, that's that's probably. That's probably not about a bat.
That's addition by subtraction, is it. I think that's I
think that's a good way to put it. Ian Ian
how a couple of things real quick? Uh, how much
does it bother you that that Oklahoma City is about
to go to the NBA Finals.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
We're going to get into that. We're going to get
in that first segment today. There's a lot of layers
to the onion top peel back, but we're going to
get into that and just why they're going to go too.
It's it's pretty remarkable some of the things that they're
able to do. And we'll touch in on that a
little bit. It's, you know, like I said before, it's
our sports porn hero. I don't watch the NBA. I
haven't watched the NBA since two thousand and eight. Yeah
(33:49):
you have, you know, I wish I did. I watched.
I watched the most of the second half last night,
and because the hockey game timed out perfectly, they got
the empty netter midway through the third quarter or so
of the NBA game, so I was able to flip
over once it was two nothing and flipped over that,
and just I was hopeful. But you know, like when
(34:12):
you watch, you know, how you watch a game, it
doesn't matter what sport, and you just get a feeling.
Baseball maybe is a little different, but football, basketball, hockey.
You can watch games and a lot of like, yeah,
there's twists and turns and things happen, but sometimes you
just go, man, I just don't think it's gonna happen
the other way around, Like I don't think the script's
gonna flip. And they basically led by five the entire game,
the whole game, five or more point they should have
(34:36):
a five or more pointly, Yeah, they probably could have
won more. I mean the three pointers great equalizer in basketball,
and they hit I think they had six of them.
In the in the fourth did Minnesota. But yeah, that's yeah,
it's inevitable, buddy. Yeah, well no, no, I know it's
like not happy, not happy, not happy at all.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
No should anybody be? What do you who? He is
coming up on your show.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Today, Joshian weekly baseball guest will join at one twenty
today Joshian Newsletter, and we'll get into the Mariner's homestand
which begins Washington here today starting for three, and then
we go to Minnesota this weekend. Minnesota, pretty good baseball,
go that's Central Division's.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Good, very good.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
I hadn't really glanced at it for a while, and
I know, like Minnesota kind of started.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
A little Troit. It's a wagon.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
Now, Detroit's a wagon. Minnesota's has the same record as
Seattle does right now. So we'll talk to Joe about
all things baseball coming up at one twenty and then
our weekly visit always a fun time, John lenn from
the Bay Area. We'll talk NBA with him.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
We'll talk a little.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Seahawks forty nine Ers rivalry and some other stuff with
John coming up at two o'clock today.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
All right, the mayor coming up next. Thanks to kid.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Everybody listen we will see tomorrow right here on MJ
and the Midday Sports Radio ninety three to three kjr FM,
