Speaker 1 (00:00):
So tell us last night.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
First of all, I'm curious what you thought about the crowd,
the vibe, how many they had down there, and was
it a usual Sounders rocking place. How did Seattle's soccer
fans embrace the Club World Cup last night?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
The thirty thousand, one hundred and fifty one fans that
attended the event embraced it, right, So you you know,
had your soccer purists and you could tell that just
you know, the cheering, the way they were cheering, and uh,
there was obviously some new people there, but they.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Interested, they really did.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
And you know as the game got tight and the
sound of score, then you know you had the boom
boom clap and all that and so bestive atmosphere it was.
And that would for those fan meter rate, I would say,
you know, give them an a.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
So thirty thousand, I'm guessing that part of the upper deck,
maybe the center part of the upper deck was open
not ar last night, is that right?

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
You know, Greg, they did not cover it, Okay, so
it was yeah, I know they was talk leading up
to it. Well.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
The reason I asked a little bit about the crowd,
of course, is that the ticket sales across the United
States haven't been great. It's not part of the season
ticket plan for these MLS clubs, LAFC in Miami or
the other two teams playing and LAFC, by the way,
is playing Chelsea today in Atlanta, so it's not like
their fans would easily get to games. And it's got
to the point where they were slashing ticket prices to

(01:31):
try to get people to come to the games, which
ticked off some of the people who originally bought their
tickets at a fuller price than they got for yesterday,
which is why I bring about the crowd thing. Okay,
the playing the pitch last night, I would guess that
was of the three group matches, with Athletico Madrid and
Parson Jamon still coming in here, that was the one
to get last night, right, And how close did they

(01:51):
get to doing it? Looks like they pushed pretty hard
in the second half, Lazvita.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yeah they did, and it was that is they pushed
hard in the second half.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
But really the story.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Of last night was the mischances they had early. So
Albert Vargas was really active, you.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Know, you were soccer in the midfield and he was.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
They had a couple of really good chances. Hah, sus
Ferrara had won. You know, alb cuts in the middle,
give it for our right hand side and left footed
and he had the right idea away from the keeper.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
But he went wide. And then Albert Rusnak had an
little one. So you know they're in the game. The
Sounders on the front foot in the first ten.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Minutes, if you will, you know, as you know soccer,
the opposition gets there a.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Foothold in the game.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
And then you know a couple really really you know
bonehead plays and just lost. You know, they they give up,
they give up a foul outside knew who does he
pushes a guy yellow card and they avert.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
That is yeah, Bortafogo conversant. Remember they've got Ega.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
You know this guy that's gonna go to Ntingham forest right,
just find and also did Alex tell us a former
you know man, you guy and he's been around.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
And coming in.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
This was a team you knew you had to limit
this set pieces and that was one of their forte
that is Bortafogo is the crosses. And so they get
the one and they get another one. Similar play breakdown
and defending on a set piece and you're down to zero.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Do you think Fride should have gotten that second one?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yes, looking over and over and replayed it, and there
was he was not blocked right, it was across that
the velocity and the pace wasn't really you know that much.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
So what happened as I looked at it again, he kind.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Of hesitated and he was beat on his inside that
to his left side, So I think he waited and yeah,
and then he should.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Have got that, Moz.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
How can the Sounders build on their second half momentum
against Botifago to prepare for tougher challenges, whether it be
Athletico Madrid and PSG.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, so you know, the takeaway from the second half
is that they were they moved the ball with a
little bit more pace, and they brought in Paul roth Rock,
who's you know, faster, and Pedro Dilla Vega much faster.
So then you had your pivots, which is Rodin and
well but Vargas getting the ball wide.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
And once the ball was wide, they kept.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
On attacking that final third and by them staying wide
that is again Dela Vega and roath Rock, it opened
up the middle for someone like Albert Russnek and then
they were able to get some innerplay in there. So
those are some of the things that I think Brian
Smitz will go over tomorrow. Hey, fast paced, let's get

(05:06):
more runners in the box. But the one thing they
have to do they have to have a belief that
they're going to score, and I'm not sure the Sounders
have that belief. They want to score and they get
to that spot, but lacking is that conviction if you
will to like I'm going to score, I'm going to
win this ball and I'm going to beat the keeper.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Mazveda Mariri said Cascade of sports Net easy Sounders and
the Seahawks beat writer for them, and well storm and
Washington Husky does all kinds of stuff. He joins us
on the Beacon Plumbing Highland. Great friend of mine. He
was at the match last night, the Sounders losing two
one the Botafogo of Brazil. And now here comes out
letting the Madrid into the game, into the Club World Cup,
I should say, into Loomenfield on Thursday afternoon and then

(05:48):
after that Paris Saint Germont. I'm the reigning UEFA Champions League.
That's the group play that sounders fund themselves in. Maybe
it goes without saying, Maz, but how much do they
miss Yamar in.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
The middle right now, Ah, you're a soccer guy. They
really do.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
And so a center back is like yours, like your
free safety right, the communication, the ability to react and
align your defense. They really miss him because the two
goals were scored, like we said, offset pieces that were
in the box, and kim Kehy as good as he is,

(06:25):
he was beating them both of those. Now the question,
like Yamar, maybe they needed somebody to be in front
of kim keathy right, because he was sealed on both
of the goals. It's like a rebound, right, if you're
the back, the person is going to get that rebound.
And so these are world class players and you give
him a free header, they're going to take advantage of it.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
You know, I'm going to ask your center back question, man,
a center back father, and I wonder if I wonder
if you gave it to you? Maybe he did. Eric Bell,
we recollege soccer player who's setter back six foot four.
I don't have his height has been out for now

(07:08):
what five weeks or so? All right, let's be real,
are they gonna get points at all, you think out
of the next two matches against Atletico and the PSG.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
I mean, you play the games, right, you never know,
I don't you know, So what are you looking for?
I think if you play up your potential and.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
You get beats by world class plays. You know Antonio Grizzman, right,
if he can come out there and beat you, you
cover him and he just makes one of those bloatco
you know, shots that beat thrives in a good position.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Okay, you're all right with that, regardless of what the
score is.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
But what you can't have is just you know, a
lack of discipline, and that's that's the key. Uh look
local Madrid, Madrid is coming here. They got embarrassed and so.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Right, yea four mil and I loot. It was interesting
in the game in the PSG because you know Jego
samir Andi, he makes halftime substitution three players and of those.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Three players, two of them get yellow cards with it
three minutes of the second half. So I mean they're
coming to uh athletical mandinners to take their foot and
put it on.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
The sounder's neck and just annihilate. I mean, that's you know,
that's the attitude. So how do you counter that? Greg?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Right, So you have to play discipline soccer. That means
you have to stay compact. For the Sounders, your back
line and your midfield block and also your forward line,
the actually five of them.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
The way the Sounders play, they all have to stay together.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Because I don't think you're going to win the possession
battle against athletical went and against the PSGV you know,
that's a whole other, you know, animal in itself.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
So PSG voterfolio even last night and a totko they
brought their dudes, right because of the prize money involved
in the fact that there's tens of millions of dollars
at stake if you can reach the finals. The full
guns are playing for these teams.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Right.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
No, absolutely, and that was a little bit of a surprise,
I think to a lot of us.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
But it makes sense.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Because they're in their preseasons, right. I mean, look, PSG
just won the Champions League but three weeks ago and
here they are coming over the States. So yeah, you're right.
The average well not even soccer a sports fan would think, wow,
this is just pre season spring training for them, But
FIFA up the Annie with a billion dollar prize money
and now it's a big deal to have these players
get that money right.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
It's an absolute cash grab in that and I think
FIFA got it right as much.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
As you know, we we go out here and just
slam FIFA.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
But if you really think about it, there used to
be confederations, cuff.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
That's what this tournament used to be. That is a
tournament before the World Cup.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
You would play it where the world a year before
the World Cup is going to be played. You get
your logistics right, and then you would take the you know,
the previous World Cup winner and the run ups and
then the host city and then another team. So fifals like, no,
you know what, let's forget that. Let's get the clubs
right and let's give you enough money. And so for

(10:26):
the clubs it's it's huge and for the players.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
Now for PSG, then Bella did not play.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
He uh, he could have played, but he has a
leg injury that he suffered in his team's play national team.
But he I believe he will be up here. So
all the players want to be involved. As I said,
you know egohad suits you know he you know she
was sold but he wants to stay with the team

(10:53):
because of the possibility, you know, you advance and you
make money.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
Absolutely mis You mentioned the discipline aspect for the Sounders.
Going again, these matches coming up, what would also be
a successful showing in the FIFA Cup, the FIFA World Cup,
excuse me, FIFA Club World Cup, look like beyond the
wins and losses in this matchups coming.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Yeah, on the field, Chris, I think it's that they
have to, you know, play good defense that you.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Know, you can't go for zero three zero that kind
of thing, right, I mean, what it looks like is
that you have some of the possession, you get some
shots in there, you make this you know, the other keeper,
you make it work a little bit, right, a little entertaining.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
So that means move the ball around, can.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
You you know you move psg Athletico Madrid around a
little bit. I mean that there's some things you can
do that not only discipline, but.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
If you speak to your scout, if you.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Will, you fans will be like, okay, you know what,
we have a little possession, We got a couple of
corner kicks, you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
But we had a shot and those are the things
that you would be a.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Victory and then mutating soccer and that's company for the
fans feel we were overmatched, but hey, Vargas made a
couple of moves, you know, I mean, you know, he
went after.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
A couple of these high priced players and.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Beat them, and so okay, that's a success.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Mazia Mara joining us from Cascadi of Sports. These Sounders
and Seahawks beat Writer, among many other things, Storm and
Husky's here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline in ninety three
point three KJRFMS. Last time I talked to you here
on KJR, we were talking about the protests that the
Sounders made about the payment schedule for the MLS's scheduled
how the team is getting nine and a half million
but the players only get one million minimum from this tournament.

(12:47):
What was there any residual to that last night? I
know it hasn't really been resolved to the players liking.
Obviously the show goes on and they were on the pitch,
but what was going on last night in that regard?

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, no, I think that all you know, all few
of us and you know, the athletes or whatever. But
the thing is is the excitement for the players once
it became game time.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
You know, they won't think.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
About anything but playing against the best, showing their.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Craft and measuring that. Now.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Uh so officially nothing but and you know what MLS
knew that.

Speaker 6 (13:24):
They knew that, you know if they sallid So the
game start and Christian odin the last practice it was
the last Saturday, you know, I be asked them the
player is going to protest?

Speaker 4 (13:37):
He said no, you know, they just we're going to
because then it's lose, lose, lose lose for everyone.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Right, they got this too late now and basically right,
so there they go. So I'd like to go Madrid
coming in here on Thursday afternoon primetime back in Spain
for the second game of the Club World Cup against
the Sounders. Masveta Marrera be there. You were also standing
next to me at Sea Hawks mini camp last week.
So I'm gonna switch gears and ask you what stood
out to you. What was the most telling thing, if

(14:07):
anything about football in June and T shirts and shorts.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
I thought that what the defense was ahead, right, yep,
we saw that that just in terms of the pace
and energy they were, you know, every time they went
the drills or whatnot.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
You could tell they were a step ahead.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
And also I thought that I liked Charbone looked and
gray Abel, I mean he.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Looked the part. So that is a positive named Lucas.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
So that old line necessarily, the old line seems to
be a competition, right, and that's gonna go. But Michae
McDonald's asked, when are you going to have, you know,
finalize that, and he said, Mike bigcllo fashion suit of
them later, But I think right probably before training deposity.

(15:03):
You got to do it before training camps down right,
you should have some idea two weeks in of what
you're doing in moist season rotations. So that's the offensive
line competition. The leadership Devon willis known to me was
stood out, and not only in just what he said,

(15:25):
but on the field and then after each of the
team sessions they had those big vino boards and how
as a group they would go there and you could
really hear them talking about the play.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
The attention to detail also stood out for me. Sam
Donald is Sam Donald? Right?

Speaker 2 (15:44):
What's that mean?

Speaker 4 (15:46):
That means? For me? Fifteenth best quarterback? Twelve? If you will?
Can can you win a game? For you?

Speaker 3 (15:59):
If you're running the ball well, I don't think he's
the one that's You don't want him throwing forty five
passes in a game, you know what I mean, like
to try to win, So he's a game manager.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
I think he's smart and athletic.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
He can get outside of the pocket, but hopefully that's
a design play as opposed to him being chased out
of the bucket.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Right, Yeah, you're right. That's why they brought him here
and signed him not to throw forty times a game
forty five times. It's to run the ball and bootlegs
and complementary football. Off of that, I'm gonna ask you
general question you probably aren't ready for. Who's the most
compelling athlete to cover for you in Seattle? You're across
all of the teams, the Mariners, you out there opening

(16:46):
Day with me, Seahawks, Sounders, Storm Huskies. If you had
to give the listeners of the breadth of all the
stuff you cover, who's the most compelling sports figure in
Seattle that you cover?

Speaker 1 (16:57):
And why?

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Why is he or she interesting?

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Come on Greg here, man, Like if you just you
and I just chop the wagoner?

Speaker 4 (17:09):
Okay, bt Bird blue Bird comes to mind. I think
they're both up there.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
They're intense when they are, you know, holding their craft
and the practices and everything, but also.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
What they do in the community quietly and.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Oh they go current current. Oh man, You're never gonna
come on with me now because I'm putting you on
the spot.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
Nah, not not at all. I mean it's a good question.
I'll be compelling.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Is too interesting? Like if you and I are sitting
the taste of any just yacking it up, and.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
I like Ovid Vargas, He's a good one to talk to.
I would also oh yeah, Gloomy Gate. Absolutely, yeah, there
you go.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Yeah, I see is just uh a Tanse understands the game.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
She's a leader, she's a student of the game.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
She's also a history of the game. And she's real
and she's she's real to practice, she's real. If she
talked to her the side, she's real. In the press conference,
that's thank you. It's Neka aok.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Cool, the Storm's star and super Air apparent. I guess
as a franchise leader, I guess you could say now
that Joe Lloyd has left town, but thank you for that,
because that's a sided. Maybe a lot of people don't
know about her in the Storms so thank you for that.
Mons Veta. All right, so you'll be out there. You're
predicting the Sounders three nil win over Athletico. I appreciate
that you're on records going there. Thanks. Man's going to

(18:50):
talk to you.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
Appreciate you both. Thanks great, take care, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
You too, mas Vita Mare Cascadia Sports Sounders, Seahawks beat writer.
As a he mentioned also Storm, he's out there quite
a bit. He's out the Storm game the other night.
My son was at They're good buddies, my son Eric
Bell soccer background that they are. But check out his
work at Cascade of Sports dot net. Great to talk
to him as always. If you miss that, you can

(19:15):
catch it on the iHeartRadio app download it for free
wherever you get your podcasts and apps. You can look
up to I Guess It's MJ and the Midday tag

All again with Christopher Kidd. We're gonna do it all
from ten to one all this week up next. Your

(19:35):
a chance to be a part of the show. Chris
and I love doing this. Last year the text line,
I dare say we've involved the text line maybe more
than any show on the station. But that's just me
bragging Chris. Chris is not in his head. We did,
we did. You'll be part of the show next. We're
gonna read back your text The ninety three point three
KJRFN chesting live from the R and R Foundation Specialist

(19:56):
Broadcast Studio.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
Now back to m J let me do on your home.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
For the Huskies, Kraken and Sounders.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM. Greg Well,
the News Tribune is back on the air with Christopher
Kidd from here ten until one all week when Mark
James is away. Before we go to de text, you
know what that music means? I had missed it and
it's been a while. You haven't heard the porn music
in so long. Wasn't going to bring that up, but yeah,

(20:25):
boogie nights. We never get boogie Knights on the radio.
Still trying to figure that out. I'll kind of figure
that out before we go to that. The NHL and
the Olympic Committees for various nations have named their initial
preliminary roster for the Milan Games next winter. In the
Winter Olympics and the Krakens, Philip Grubauer is on Germany's team,

(20:46):
the only Kracking nets see represented in the original six
for these original six players for each of these clubs
for each of these nations. Canada's preliminary roster Sidney Crosby,
Carol mccarr, Brayton Point, Nathan McKinnon, Connor McDavid, Samurai. No
surprise there. The United States initial pliminary roster has Austin Matthews,
Quinn Hughes, John McAboy, Jack Eichel Ready and Matthew Kochuck

(21:12):
Brothers will both be on the US preliminary roster for
the Milano Games next year. Philip Rubauer from for Germany.
Now you know what time it is. The music means
it's time to read back your text at four nine
four five one, Greg, this one's for you. Maybe you
have the answer from the two five to three. Hey,
why are the New England Patriots team playing down at

(21:34):
Boeing Field off airport way. I've seen two techs saying
that the Patriots jet is at Boeing Field. I don't
know if that means one of the teams that are
in the club World Cup rented that plane for the
week or not, like the Robert Kraft's going to be
using it and the Patriots aren't using it this time
of year. I don't know the answer other than the

(21:55):
Boston Red Sox are there. I guess that would be
my guest. At the Red Sox used it this week.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
Maybe their plane is their their actual plane is not functioning.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah. Well, a lot of Major League clubs lease planes
from airlines Delta or Alaska and then not Alaska in
this case, but United or in the case of Boston,
I know Jet Blue has a hut there. I don't
know the answer if the Red Sox have their own
plane or not, but that's my guess. The Patriots plane
at bowing Field is probably the Boston Red Sox team plane. Hmm,
all right, you got one for us, Greg? What do

(22:30):
we have here? A lot? Yeah, we do. You pick one?
What is your favorite ice cream flavor that's from Rod
out of the two oh six Rod. I wasn't ready
for that one, man. I'm just old school chocolate.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
Huh okay, I'll go strawberry. Really, I just there's something
about it. Neapolitan no, no, no, no, straight strawberry. You
don't like the Neopolian, Yeah, I mean, I'll do it,
but I'm not like, Oh, let me get the neo
I need.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
I'll take strawberry please. I'm just straight chalk. But most
of all that's fair. Although the berry ones like huckleberry
or blueberry or what are also good. Yeah, they are
really good. But nothing beats when you said chocolate. Yeah,
I agree. From the four two five.

Speaker 5 (23:13):
Joel great hearing g Bill on a Monday, Maybe Solano
or te Lez can play fullback for the Hawks and
do better than hitting or playing first kid. I need
a movie recommendation to take my wife to for date night.
Wow in theaters? Okay, that's a little pressure. Yea, what
did what did I just see? I just saw Mission Impossible.

(23:34):
I'm assuming, though, Joel, you've seen that because the previews
have gone crazy.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
On it, so everyone what you're about to watch and review.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
So tonight Jackson and I are going to go check
out F one with Brad Pitt. They got a stellar cast.
But I did my googles, which I think maybe I'm
not the only one that does this. I'm going to
preface this with this is going to tell how old
Chris might not be. I look up to see how
long the film is. Come to find out the New

(24:02):
f One film is set at two hours and thirty
six minutes. I was stunned. I thought it would be
like maybe an hour fifty maybe two hours, And I'm thinking,
this is a long movie. But I get it. It's
gonna be drama. They're gonna draw the story. But I'm
excited to see it. This will be my first screening
of the movie, so it'll be fun. I've never been
to a screening, you know, so I'll soak it all in.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
That's cool. It'll be free, so you know after that, Yeah,
it's giving it away on your podcast, right because you're
gonna review it. Oh yeah, we're gonna go in knees deep.
Baby Mike from the two five three says Milroe is
who I'm excited about. He will start next year. Book it.
I don't know. I don't know about next year.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
That man.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
If he starts next year, that means that Sam Donald
had a horrible season. You know that he could take
a a colossal leap either.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Even if you.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Took a colossal leap, you still got Sam Donald under
a pretty hefty contract. Even for next year. Like I said,
that's essentially a two year deal. Man, If Janalen Miller
was the starting quarterback next year, that seas ProAb we
went five and twelve. Really that doesn't sound great. I mean, really,
what else would prompt if Sam Darnold gets into the playoffs?
He's not starting next year, right, correct? So I don't know.

Speaker 5 (25:11):
Okay, you know what I can with the movie recommendation,
go see Final Destination blood Lines.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
That was actually it was. I thought I thought I
was good. Am I just gonna alienate myself with all
the listeners to go. I have no idea what that
movie's about. I never even heard of it. You've seen
the previous for it, though.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
I have a movie about death and how you die
in the most insane ways.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
That sounds like an uplifting date film.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
It's not an uplifting film. But the story has been
going for quite some time. I think it first started
in two thousand and it's been twenty five years.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
To take his gal to see that on a date night.
You know, I don't know what it is. It's a
I don't know how to explain it, Greg, but he's
going to drop fifty bucks on that date night fluzy.
How much it costs to go to the theater?

Speaker 5 (25:56):
Now, it depends on what you go, where you go,
but I would say around thirty bucks is what you'll
be paying for a movie for two? Yeah, for two,
not including popcorn a little drink. So you know what, Greg,
that's your challenge this weekend. Take the wife out for
a movie.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I don't care. Go see whatever. Man, we haven't been
to a theater in so long.

Speaker 5 (26:15):
Oh, you know what, go to the one over in Bellevue.
It's lounge, They bring you food. It's like you're kind
of at home with a big screen.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
It's really cool.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
It's twenty one and up too, so you don't have
to worry about people bringing their babies.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
So how much is a ticket to that? All right? Greg?
You didn't ask all It'll be about fifty bucks. Yeah,
that's what I thought. That's what I thought. There's a
ton of stuff here on the Mariners. Where should we
even get in on that?

Speaker 5 (26:39):
Maybe we skible with a Maryland because I got a
better one for you from the two five three. Greg,
My eleven year old wants to fly helicopters when he's
old enough and in a military.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Any advice for him get a private pilot's license, and
those are expensive, as I'm finding out through my daughter
who's doing it. But yeah, private pilot's license takes a
lot of time. It's a lot harder than it used
to be. I'm finding out the FAA is really cracked,
as they should. You shouldn't just let any Yaho's fly planes,

(27:08):
but it's a little harder than it used to be.
My wife had a private pilot's license when she was
in eighteen, but she tells me that the requirements my
daughter has crazy compared to what she did. So good
for them that the FAA cracks down on that. But
that would be my first bit of advice, and I'm
living that right now. It's expensive. I can tell you
that two four four two five. What do I expect

(27:31):
the marriagers to do with the trade deadline? We asked
that earlier. Nothing in all caps exclamation point. They knew
devs was available and also had the farm system to
get them. Of course they did have the farm system.
They could have got Harry Ford would have gotten them devors,
but they wouldn't want to do that. The problem is
the money. As we mentioned, the giants took on two
hundred and fifty million a quarter billion dollars until twenty

(27:53):
thirty three. That's the problem with making deals on a
contract that last eight more years. You're inheriting all of
that because it's all guaranteed. This isn't the NFL where
it's oh, it's just eight years, but it's really only
two or void year. No, it's guaranteed money. Yeah, Devers
could hit one hundred between now in twenty thirty three
and he's still gonna make two hundred and fifty more
million dollars. The Marriagers don't want that. I don't blame

(28:15):
I can't criticize the Mariner for not taking on an
eight year contract at two hundred and fifty million plus
take away some of your top prospects. Yeah, no, I'm
I am not going to criticize them for not trading
for Raphael Devers. And Devors had worn out his welcome
in Boston, as many baseball fans and many of you
listeners know, they didn't want him play thirty anymore because
the Red Saw just got Bregman and then they wanted

(28:37):
him to play first, and then he went him to
DH and he's like nah, and it's been his butting
heads this whole time. And then he said, all right, reluctantly,
I'll do what you tell and I'll do a dh
because he thought, well, he wasn't going to get traded,
and here's the Giant's ponying up a quarter of a
billion dollars. That's crazy man.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
From the two o six, Greg also asked you trade deadline, Ah,
the m's gonna move the needle for you this season.
Two six says, as usual, the Mariners will most likely
do nothing. If they do something, they'll probably just add
a utility player. Then we'll be scratching our heads asking why.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Yeah, I get it. I say this all the time.
I said it all last year. I get the cynicism.
If you've been in this town for more than a year,
you deserve to be cynical. If you spent money on
Mariners tickets, you deserve to be cynical. The only baseball
team that's never made the World Series A little that's
just a fact, man. Yeah, I know, sorry to bring

(29:39):
it up. As if you didn't know. I got one
for you. From the four two five, Greg, have you
seen Glady here yet? It's like three of these on
There is no sorry now it unfortunately is people texted me.

(30:01):
Wait a second, Greg hasn't seen it yet. He's joking
with you, right kid, I have not seen it.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
No, he's being in his authentic self. He has not
seen I know I have not. I have a great quote.
And Greg looked at me like he was seeing ghosts.
What are you talking about? Oh, you're the Gladiator two
o six. Aren't the Mets still paying Bobby Vinie? I
think so? It might be true pirate reference from way
back in the day they were saddled with Bennia's contract
when he was like sixty years old. Yeah, ah, okay,

(30:31):
this is a funny one.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
And Greg might not be in on this joke, but
the listeners are. Greg. I just got a DUI can
I get three hundred dollars?

Speaker 5 (30:41):
I have no idea what to talk about. I'm sure
once you answer. Once you answer, I'll give you a
little backstory real quick. No, not for that, I don't know.
So MJ was trying to court a young lady. They're
trying to go on dates. She ended up next long
story shorts. She asked him for some money and he
was like what so Now the listener was like, hey, Greg,

(31:03):
what's up man? You want to I want to get
me out of a deui and Greg's like, I can't
do that is.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
The ice favorite ice cream cream flavors. I also want to.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
No, no, no, that's that was a random one that I
didn't expect to come to. Come on, come on the
text line today. Gotcha miss hearing Bell and kid. Thank
you appreciate that. It's good to be back with Chris.
I missed him a lot. It's it's really cool. Here's
one for you, Chris.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Two six. SGA is what's wrong with the NBA? Flops
for no reason. Hate to watch his game. That's true.

Speaker 5 (31:32):
Everyone flops. I'm not going to put it all on him,
but yes, he definitely gets the foul calls by flopping
the head back.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Just like the league. He's just actually one of the
best in the league.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
So I get why this listener, who is probably a
Sonics fan, has vitriol for SGA, And I can't blame
that person, not at all, because he does flop.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
And now that he's won the MVP, he's probably earned
ten more years of it. Right, Oh my gosh, kidding me,
You kidding me? Greg Flop flop Adopolis over here man
in the hall. Actually right outside my door, I see
the Mayor of Maple Valley and I was. I was
in his kingdom on Sunday and when I walked in,

(32:12):
I'm gonna mention it to him. I'll save it for
when he comes in. We're gonna hear from Ian Fornes.
Next on ninety three point three kJ RFM, Welcome Back
with Greg bellt Show with Christopher k I missed the
friend of Music. I am back this week, Mark James

(32:36):
the way. Greg Bell the News Tribune is in instead,
and it's a reuniting not only with Christopher Kidd, but
also with the Mayor of Maple Valley, Sir. I was
down in the Mayor's fivedom on Saturday, and I will
tell you that when I walked in, I met the
entire city. It felt like of Maple And when I
walked my son and I walked through the gate, I

(32:58):
could feel people going who and the hell is that?
Because he ain't from Maple Valley.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
It was a Rando that just showed up.

Speaker 7 (33:06):
You don't like randos out there, No randoms, no randos,
no Rando's allowed.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
It was fantastic. We were there for Keefer's yea, his
son's graduation from Whitworth and Yeah, what struck me is
how cool it was to see not only his college
lineman guys hear from the area were his buddies, but
all his high school classmates that were there. And I
got there later, so I missed some of them. I'm
sure it was really cool.

Speaker 7 (33:31):
Very very close knit community. First of all, thanks for coming.
It was awesome have you guys, And I got to
explained I mentioned this. Greg down plays it. Maybe Keifford
does too. You know, like a lot of college kids,
you go to college and there's that one class of
freshman year that just is getting you. And and my
son's always been a really good student, like a real
and I was it's funny because he's a really good student.

(33:53):
He just never liked school but football. And this is
where the student athlete thing comes into play. And it's
when bristled last week, and when I hear people say
there's no such thing as a student athlete anymore, that's
just the biggest bunch of garbage I've ever heard. Yeah,
your son was your daughter Rose and your crew and stuff.
I don't know if he goes to college, if he's
not playing football.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
And how many people can say that, right, It's so many.

Speaker 7 (34:17):
And you know, especially the smaller schools that have every sport. Right,
it's like, Okay, I want to still play, you know,
and I'm still good enough. And and for most of
the kids at that level, they want to play. They
could go to other schools, but they want to play.
They don't want to just be practice fodder. And so
it was big. But he had a class, he had
a writing classes freshman year, and he was like, I
don't know how much he was really struggling, but he

(34:39):
was kind of in a panic mode and he's like,
can you help me with this?

Speaker 1 (34:42):
And all this?

Speaker 7 (34:42):
And I'm like, I'm just not the writer I used
to be. I'm just I was years ago, not anymore.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Let's let's face it. When your dad tells you something,
you're kind of like, how gonna.

Speaker 7 (34:51):
Yeah, I knew he but I knew he was stressed
when he's calling me about it, like, because he's the
kind of kid that used the phone in a voice.
Yeah yeah, he did actually two things what that? And
you know he's also a kid that that you know,
fought all the symptoms of type one diabetes. For eight
months without complaining or saying anything. He just doesn't do that.
So I knew it was stressful. And it was a

(35:11):
writing class. And I said, you know what, my buddy
Greg Bell, he does some stuff that you dub, but
he's a writer. That's what he does. He's you know,
and whether it's long form short form, he's a writer.
And I put Keith for in touch with Greg and
you were phenomenal and got him. It was awesome and
so and he's always been forever grateful for that, as
we have as a family.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
So it was good to have you and your son.
Good to meet Eric out there. It was cool.

Speaker 7 (35:32):
He was and you saw and like you said, you
saw the entire city of Maple Valley.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
It was packed.

Speaker 7 (35:37):
It wasn't the same, it was small, but it was packed.
There were like four other graduation parties just in our neighbor.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
We roll up on the block, Chris, and it looked
like Marty of graduation ceremony.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah, of parties because I just finished.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
It was Saturday, right, yeaday, I get it. Everyone's graduating
Saturdays in June.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
It's like it's a college or high school.

Speaker 5 (35:58):
He was at a graduation party from my little yeah,
graduating high school.

Speaker 7 (36:01):
So yeah, yeah, you can easily stumble into the wrong party.
No one would know each other. Yeah yeah, Well the
one high school town's cool. That's kind of like, that's
what that's what drew us to that because it's a
one high school town and you know, ingham Claw is
the exact same like if you go twenty minutes down

(36:22):
one sixty nine to enham Claw, you go the scratch
down there, to Edam Scratch, you go down, it's the
exact same thing. My buddy Steve Murphy's a teacher down there,
and we went to a charity poker thing for actually
four diabetes on Friday at his place, and it was
just like I felt like everyone in edham Claw was
there and they all knew each other. And that's the
way it is in the one high school towns. It's
kind of cool. I wouldn't trade my experience at O

(36:43):
Day for anything, probably, right, Chris, you either. But my
friend group was spread from Edmunds to Burien, to Kirkland, Redmonds,
you know, Seattle wherever, so Murce round would have you.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
So it's kind of nice to everybody there. It was cool.

Speaker 7 (36:57):
Its fun, fun weekend for all the graduates. Congratulations all
the grade out there. Absolutely your son too, and congratulations
all the gradge out there and whatever's coming next for you.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Good luck in this world that we live in.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Congraduations all the parents have got them there.

Speaker 7 (37:09):
I think that's I think we're officially done as parents
of a student.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
That's a student.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
That's the last thing.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
Then you'd think you wipe your hands of it.

Speaker 7 (37:18):
Well as a student, yes, yeah, as a student, yeah,
but it takes on a whole other thing parenting does
ye daughter after the boyfriend just bought a house.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
That's the whole new world too. So I met her too.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
She was wonderful man.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Yeah, he's a special kid. So thanks for coming up.
We're all what a difference a weekend, mate, So.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
They're going to be positive. Of course, three games sweep.

Speaker 7 (37:38):
Of them, Yet what happened earlier in the week. Yeah,
I know, so we'll see, we will see. I don't
know what brand of I don't know if it's gonna
be off brand Molly Opera not.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
We'll see.

Speaker 7 (37:51):
I mean, what a great bounce back by them, right,
Like just a great bounce back by the MS this weekend.
But it didn't start out so good. So lots of
discuss Logan Gilbert coming back tonight.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
The eight two hundred and fifty million on top of
four prospects, on top of eight more years of a contract.
I'm not doing that.

Speaker 7 (38:08):
Yeah, I'll ask Chris. Chris is the expert on the
prospects and stuff it. You know, it feels like the
Red Sox, just outside of the money getting taken off,
didn't do very well in this deal, right, So but
I don't blame no, I agree, I agree that's a
Those are those are some pretty difficult waters to tread in.
So yeah, We've got balliwop, and then I'm gonna talk

(38:29):
a little bit about I heard you have mos on earlier.
Soccer just continues to shoot itself in the foot.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
I knew you were gonna say that. It just does.

Speaker 7 (38:39):
It just continues to shoot itself in the foot. Yeah,
like baseball is close number two, but soccer is at
number one.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
We'll touch it on that a bit too.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
And is up next with jessmone and andrews Hurst, Greg
Bull the News streat. I'm gonna be here all week
ten to one because Mark James is away. I am
reuniting with Christopher Good. Thank you, Chris. It was fun like,
it was like old time. It was like twenty twenty
four way back. I'll be here tomorrow at tend the
noon E and is up next to ninety three point
