(00:00):
All right, Wolves fans, theWolves get set for Summer League twenty twenty
four. Rob Dillingham is along withme here. I guess today was your
training camp here at Mayo Clinic Square. You guys have got a couple of
workouts in before going to Vegas inSummer League. Well, your first official
workout, I guess with the Wolves. How that feel? It was cool?
If so, you got to getused to it and so you see
all the guys, But it's definitelya blessing. It's cool for sure.
(00:21):
Hasn't even been two weeks since yourname was called by Adam Silver at the
NBA Draft. What's what's the lastcouple of weeks been like? Actually,
it probably goes back to the endof your college season. How much of
a whirlwind has this been? Really? It has been crazy because there's a
bunch of working out. You don'tknow, there's just a lot of anxiety
on you. But I feel likeonce you got to your name call is
different now. So these last twoweeks, I've just been working out,
(00:43):
getting my mom prepared and just likegetting everything prepared to how I'm going to
help the team and what they needme to do. So just preparing myself
I mentally and physic. Pretty coolmoment here in your name called Oh yeah,
definitely, definitely a cool moment. It's not a lot of people get
to do it, so dream cometrue. Definitely dream of shootish. So
when did your basketball career start? When did you start first playing? You
grew up in North Carolina, yourdad played basketball, You played basketball from
(01:07):
a very early age. Oh yeah, I say, like my first time
playing like in a league was likewhy mca lea like four years old,
and then after that I just playedall my life for So has there been
someone who's been a big impact inyour basketball career? Definitely my brother.
My brother, He's always just beena role model for me, and then
he's always put me in the gymand like pushed me to go even when
(01:30):
I didn't want to go. Sodefinitely my brother. Was there a moment
when you knew, hey, maybeI can I can really do something with
it, make basketball career and getto the NBA. I say, when
I just started like playing AAU andseeing all the Nike teams and all the
dudes above us, and it justmade me realize if they can do it,
and I'm on the same younger team, then one day I'll probably be
(01:52):
able to do it. So Universityof Kentucky obviously has a huge track record
in the NBA with the products thatcoach Calipower he has produced. What you
learn most about your one year atUK under cal really just how to deal
with adversity and really just to learnlike everything don't come at your time.
So basketball wise, if you putin the work and you know you're putting
(02:14):
in the work, you don't haveto be mad when things ain't going the
right way because you know you're doingit. So some days it's gonna come
even if it's not that day.So I just learned to keep going and
keep fighting even though when it's notgoing my way. I mentioned a lot
of Big Blue Nation in the NBA, including now your teammate Karl Anthony Towns.
What do you know of kat?Oh that's my god, Vishelle.
He yeah, he's UK family. He hit me saying if I ever need
(02:36):
something, So it's definitely family forsure. You join a really talented team,
hero, how much does that exciteyou? Oh, It's excites me
so much because it's like, Iknow I'm a good player, but with
these players on the team. Ifeel like I can learn and grow because
it's not all about this first year, so me just learning from them and
being as much as the helper Ican. I feel like I can do
(02:59):
everything and getting tips from them willhelp me learn how to play as a
rookie in the league and how fit. How about a guy like Anthony Edwards
who's come along in four years andnow is basically starring for Team USA.
What's it gonna be like to bea teammate of his? It's crazy If
it's so, he's he's he's he'sa super stuff, So it's a yeah,
(03:20):
it's definitely crazy. He has superconfidence, So it'll be great playing
with him and learning from him andjust learning how to be an impact quickly
just like him. Rob Dillingham alongwith me, is we get set for
Wolves summer League? How much haveyou heard about the fact that we talked
about the strengths of your game andbeing able to create and playing off the
ball as well. But how muchhave you heard about your size? Six
(03:43):
foot one? That's not a hugenumber in the NBA, But is that
something you've always kind of had tobattle and overcome? Uh? Yeah,
definitely. I feel like everybody's gonnahave to say something like, if you're
doing everything good, you gotta havesomething about what you do bad. So
uh, I feel like everybody hasto have a negative. Man, I
feel like Mike Conley. He's sixfoot so Mike Conley was one of the
(04:05):
highest paid players in the NBA atone point. So yeah, I'm not
really worried about it. But there'ssome guys you looked up to when you
were growing up in the league, and maybe some of those guys on the
on the smaller side, maybe AlanIverson or something like that. Uh.
Yeah, I looked up the oddplayers for I never looked at side like
that. But also I compared myselfto the smaller players to see how I
(04:25):
can maneuver like them, because obviouslyI can relate to him because I'm the
smaller guard. But really, justI modeled everyone. I modeled every player's
game and just added with mine andwhat works and what it doesn't work,
and then I'll test it out andtry it. And that's how you get
better. Reading the mock drafts andstuff. A lot of people have you
compared to Darius Garland. Is thatis that a fair comparison? Do you
think, Uh, yeah, Isay, but I say, I'm not
(04:47):
even there yet, so he can'treally compare me to anyone. I feel
like I got to prove something beforeanyone compares me or says anything. So
I like the comparison, but Igotta get better for show. I saw
something about John Moran too, Doyou know Jo at all? Go back
with, Yeah, that's that's famtoo. He always give me shoes and
stuff. That's my guy. It'sfor real, all right. Vegas is
(05:09):
coming up? What's your goal forfor summer? Lea Like, how do
you try to improve your game whilestill playing in with within the context of
the team and doing what the coacheswant? Really just working on the things
I know I'm gonna need for theseason, such as defense, garden,
full court, making the right passes, knowing our sets, and all the
little things. I feel like, obviously we want to win, We're gonna
(05:30):
win, We're gonna try to win, but it's not all about that.
So I really just want to getcomfortable and know that I can do it,
and I can do it a littlethings, and once I'm able to
see I can do it against them, then going into the season, I'm
gonna have to practice against the ourteam every day. So mainly it's just
a it's a setup for us,and I feel like it's a setup for
(05:51):
me to get better. Your shootingnumbers are really jumped out, especially in
Kentucky, whether it was off thedribble or catching shoot. You feel comfortable
kind of both ways, however youget the ball? Oh yeah, for
sure. I feel like when Iget comfortable, they don't really matter how
I shoot the ball. I feellike that's kind of with anyone that can
shoot. When you get confidence andyou know your team has confidence in you,
(06:11):
and you have confidence to shoot itat any time, you're gonna hit
shot. So I just gotta getthat and I'll be cool. All right.
You got a chance to throw outthe first pitch of the Twins game
last week. How'd that go?Oh? It was cool? So I
never threw a pitch ever, soso TJ, we're both out there.
Would you have liked to have yourpitch? I didn't see how the pitch
resulted. You guys looked pretty smooththough, getting up on the mountain.
(06:31):
Oh yeah, mom was smooth,My boy, my boy. Yeah.
Yeah, we're not going to speakon it. That's great, oh Rob
is great to catch up with youall the best in Summer League and we'll
see you soon, so thank you, thank you, there is Rob Jellingham's
Wolves get set for Summer League comingup in Las Vegas.
