Speaker 1 (00:07):
From WBZ News Radio in Boston. This is New England Weekend.
Each and every week right here, we come together and
talk about all the topics important to you and the
place where you live. It is great to have you
back with us this weekend. I'm Nicole Davis. Okay, it's
pretty hard to find somebody out there who doesn't at
least like unicorns. I mean, they're shiny and they're pretty
(00:28):
either full of magic and glitter and sparkle and all
that good stuff. We could really use more of these days.
If you agree, you don't even have to go that
far to go spend time with one. Just head out
to central Massachusett's go to the Jefferson neighborhood of Holden
and swing by the farm at Summit Wins. That's where
later on this month you can enjoy the three day
Unicorn experience. And this is not just for kids, this
(00:50):
is for everybody. Let's welcome the farm CEO Amy Parker
and her daughter Amanda Morse to the show. It's great
to have you both before we talk unicorns because I
am very curious about that. Amy. I want to learn
a little bit more about the farm because it sounds
like it has a pretty storied history.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
My parents bought the farm in nineteen sixty four and
turned it into a horse farm, and it's been a
horse farm ever since then. We've added some other options
to the or products to the farm, just to keep
it viable.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Now I know that you do lavender. You've got a
butterfly experience. Tell me how did you get into the
lavender side of things.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
My late husband had brain cancer and I was looking
for something that was all natural that would help with
stress and anxiety and restlessness, that sort of thing, and
lavender popped up and I just got curious about it
(01:51):
and how to make it a little oil, how to
grow it, and it seemed like our farm was a
perfect fit. We had the right condition.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yeah, and you have a lot of beautiful products out
there too. And I love lavender. It's one of my
favorite smells. And you're right, it is so nice for relaxation.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
But there's a lot you can do with it too,
that's very true. People don't realize how much cooking and
how many things you can make that are edible with it.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, and also with the farm, I noticed too that
you have honey, You've got an airbnb there, so essentially
you've got a little bit of everything.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
That's true. We definitely have diversifies.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, so then we have, of course these events involving
your horses. And what I'm really loving here is the
unicorn experience. So how did you come up with an
idea like that?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
It was just kind of a fluke actually, you know,
I thought that my granddaughter loved unicorns, and you know,
saw all the clothing available for them, and.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Just how magical the unicorns are, right right, And we've
got horses and you know, with a little fairy dust
for breakfast, you know, they become unicorn.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, Amanda, tell me a little bit about your unicorns,
because you've got some really cute ones. From what I've seen,
we do.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Have cute unicorns. We have a few, and we have Sparkles,
who is a white unicorn. And then we have Cupid,
who's a little unicorn full of love.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
And we have Pearl.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Pearl, she's a larger unicorn, Onyx.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
He's also a large dark unicorn.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
He's stunning.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
So we have quite a unicorn selection here.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
I would say a little bit for everybody. If you
want more of the darker vibes, or you want a
cute and cuddly, sparkly unicorn. But you've also got other
little ponies too to play with and ride and so
on and so forth.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yes, we do pony rides also, so band It he
does pony rides.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Diamond.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
We'll be doing pony rides during the festival.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
And then we have a couple of horses for people
to look at and pad out in the pasture.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Love on well horses love that, I know that much.
You give them a good little nose scratch and give
them a treat and they're perfectly happy. You don't need
anything else when people go to the Unicorn Experience, what
else do you have to offer?
Speaker 4 (04:18):
We've got vendors, so there's some cute shops set up.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
We have our lavender shop which is open.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
We have our Unicorn ferries walking around and interacting with
the kids.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And they read stories.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
We have a bounce a bounce house, a castle castle,
yesoun the castle, food food yep ice cream, our lavender.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Lemonade, lavender ice cream. The Unicorn Festival is for all
ages and we encourage people to wear their best unicorn
dresses and outfits. Even we've even had guys here with
unicorn shirts on so it's not just the kids. You know,
We've got beer, we've got wine, both made with our
(05:03):
lavender as well as other varieties, and the live music
wagon rides, so there's something for everybody.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I noticed here that when you buy your tickets for
the Unicorn Experience, you can also purchase a ticket to
release a butterfly. So tell me a little bit about
that and what that means.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
People can can do a remembrance for someone they loved,
or a wish, you know, for a future, you know,
for good luck and things like that. So we have
those out so that people can take their butterfly and
release them into the wild.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
You've got a gorgeous farm, by the way, I was
taking a look at your website. I was looking at
you know, Google Maps. It's a beautiful place. But I
also noticed too that you have and this is a
little separate from the Unicorn Festival, but you also have
this initiative essentially called Keep the Farm Blooming if you
want to talk a bit about that. What's happening in
that regard.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
That's something that we just created just recently and I
haven't really gotten it out there at all, but it's
there's so much work and maintenance to this farm, and
I have I don't have a staff. It's me and
Amanda and another friend of mine who do all the
work here. So Ruth's need replacing new insulation and buildings.
(06:28):
So we're going to try to put a poster up
for that and make people aware that, you know, we
could use some help.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Yeah, it takes a lot to run a farm anyway,
even with a lot of help. I mean you've got
to feed the animals and clean and muckstalls and all
that other stuff, weed.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
And harvest and prune the lavender.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah, there's a lot to it, yeah for sure. And
where can people donate if they want to contribute to
the Keep the Farm Blooming initiative?
Speaker 2 (06:56):
If they go to the farm at Summit Winds dot com,
there is a link on the under the menu.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
All right, phenomenal. And when it comes to the Unicorn
experience buying tickets, should they do that at the door?
Should they do that online? What do you suggest?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
We generally sell out? We did add a day this year.
We are not sold out yet, but a lot of
our sales are like the last couple of weeks when
people have figured out there's summit schedules, so the best
thing they could do is go to visit unicorns dot
com to get their tickets.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
All right, visit unicorns dot com and again, if you
want to go, check out more about Summit Wins the
farm at Summit Winds dot com. That's Wynds correct. Yes, well,
Amanda and Amy, thank you so much for the time,
and I look forward to seeing all the photos from
the Unicorn experience. Have a great time, yes, thank you.
Have a safe and healthy weekend. Please join me again
