On this episode of Newswave, we'regoing to examine the winners and losers of
the first GOP debate, as wellas Donald Trump's arrest in Fulton County,
Georgia and his mug shot. We'llalso be taking a look at influencer culture
online and the up and coming bandthat I think you should give a listen
to. Let's jump right in.In a world that's constantly buzzing with updates,

(00:22):
it's easy to feel overwhelmed by thesheer volume of headlines and information.
That's why I'm here to help younavigate the endless waves of day to day
updates. I'm Ethink Buchanan, andthis his news wave. All right,
So the biggest news of the dayis going to, of course be the
GOP debate. I did watch theentire thing. While I say watched,

(00:46):
I listened to a lot of iton the radio. But yeah, it
was really good for the most part. There were a couple of moments where
I was like, Okay, yeah, this doesn't really need to be said,
but yeah, all in all,I think it was a very good,
very lively debate. I enjoyed seeingall the candidates up there. Trump
wasn't there, which, of coursethat's the big news that everybody was talking
about. I didn't really think thatthat affected the debate as a whole really

(01:11):
all that much. I mean, yeah, Trump wasn't there, and yeah
it would have been nice, andyeah he had his thing on Tucker,
and oh that was the big deal. But just as far as what the
debate was, with or without Trump, it was a good debate. I
enjoyed it. The hosts did agood job of kind of keeping everything in
order, trying to keep everybody inline, which previously they Anybody who's watched
the presidential debate knows that oftentimes thingstend to get off the rails, and

(01:33):
that definitely did happen during this particulardebate. But I think the host did
a very good job of kind oftrying to rain things in and keep people,
you know, where they need tobe in inside their times. There
was a couple of times in thebat hey, listen, you're over your
time. We have rules here, please behave And I actually enjoyed seeing that
from the host. I like itwhen they kind of corral each other because

(01:53):
as much as I want to havejust people like throwing verbal punches at each
other, you know, we doneed to have some organization, and that's
why there's rules in the UFC.You know, as much as you just
want to beat the heck out ofeach other verbally, you gotta have some
organization. There's there's got to besome rules to it, you know.
So yeah, we're gonna go aheadand jump right into it. We have

(02:14):
a pretty clear winner, I think, and a pretty clear loser I believe.
And of course this is just myopinion, so take it with a
grain of salt, and you're freeto have your own opinions, and you're
free to give me your feedback.I'd love to hear it. So yeah,
let's first, let's start off withwho I think the clear winner was.
Alrighty, I want to say thatthe clear winner of this debate was
vek Rama Swammy, or as mymom affectionately called him whilst trying to figure

(02:38):
out how to pronounce his name,v Check Randall Swampy. He was very
confident on the stage, which honestlysurprised me a lot. You know,
it's his first time running for anysort of political office. He's never been
on a debate stage like this before. I don't know his background. I
don't know if he's debated in othercircumstances for other things before, but I

(02:58):
was very surprised to see him thatpoised and that just ready to go.
He was super confident, he wassuper comfortable, and that was in contrast
to Ronda Santis, who surprisingly lookedsuper super awkward, which I mean,
it's fair. He's Ronda Santis hasnever run for a presidential office before either,
so it was Ronda Santis's first timeon the presidential debate stage as well.

(03:21):
But he ron looked really uncomfortable, which contracts a lot with Ramaswami who's
never been on a debate stage. But he was super confident and super comfortable
being there. He knew what hewas doing there. But yeah, his
presence, his poise was very good. He was very Obama Esque in a
good way. He I think iskind of the perfect merger of Trump's policies.

(03:42):
He was very Trumpian in terms ofthe things he said and the things
he believed. He by far wasshowing the strongest and most open support for
Donald Trump, and then he wasable to back that up very well with
the simple fact that hey, Iam more electable than Donald Trump, which
I think he's right. I reallydo think he's right, because you can

(04:02):
like Trump's policies all day long,as I do, I would love to
see Trump president again. However,Trump is not a very electable person.
He is a very very polarizing figure. And he definitely gets the left out
to vote in a way that theVEC will not, because it's a lot
harder to say, oh, lookat this racist Republican when you're looking at

(04:26):
a brown Indian Republican guy running forpresident and he's young too, that's always
a big plus. Or well,I don't want to say always. Let
me take that back. It's notalways a big plus. But in this
day and age, I really thinkit is. You're seeing a lot on
both sides. People are saying we'resick of all these old people in office.
And Trump is seventy seven years old. You know, he's about the

(04:46):
age that Joe Biden was in twentytwenty. Now, by no means does
that mean Trump and Biden are goingto be the same when it comes to
how their age affects them, Becauseanybody with the two brain cells to rubsy
together real hard can see that Trumpat seventy seven and Biden at seventy seven
are two completely different animals. Trumpis still active, he's still mentally there,

(05:09):
and Joe Biden is just clearly not. But at the same time,
for the party that's saying, hey, we need term limits, we need
younger people running the country. Wecan't be led by a bunch of old
geriatrics, it makes sense for thatparty to then put their money where their
mouth is and nominate for president thethirty eight year old And especially if you
want to kind of appeal to thatyounger crowd, having somebody that really does

(05:30):
I think have that potential to pulltogether that coalition of young and I hate
to say it, because this ishow politics works. You do have to
be able to pull together a coalitionof young and brown people in a way
that I don't think Donald Trump iscapable of doing, maybe not even by
any fault of his own, justbecause of how much media coverage has been
there saying look at Trump, he'sa racist. I don't think it's true,

(05:53):
but that narrative is out there andit's going to be a tough hurdle
to overcome. That VVEK is justnot gonna have to overcome. And at
this point, why would we makeit harder for ourselves to try and get
this guy to win. Why wouldwe not get rid of that roadblock just
right off the bat. So,yeah, this was really Vivek's first time
kind of stepping out there and gettingto know. You don't notice I'm talking

(06:15):
a lot about him, just becauseI've been looking into him a bunch since
the debate. Going into debate,I was kind of more on the Descantis
side, and now after debate, after seeing the performance, I really like
what I've seen from Vivek, andI'm kind of starting to kind of shift
my support a little bit. Idon't know if you've seen my Instagram story
lately, but he has grabbed alot of attention Vivek as and it's not

(06:36):
just mine. You've seen a lotof coverage lately, just on Fox News
wherever. A lot of people aretalking about Vivek, and that's definitely a
good thing because no matter where itis, they have to talk about him
in a positive light because he reallywas just that good during the debate.
So that's why I really want tosay Vivek was the clear winner. And

(06:57):
of course this primary is not over. We'll see a whole lot more from
all the other candidates, especially deSantis. But DeSantis definitely does have an
image problem right now. He lookedreally awkward on that stage, which is
why Vevec was able to outshine himso much. Vevec just had so much
positive energy and confidence that he reallyhe took that center stage and he had
it all night, all right. So with that out of the way,

(07:18):
now that we've talked about the winner, I want to talk about the clear
loser. As much as I hateto give attention to this guy just because
he aggravates me so much, wedo kind of have to talk about Mike
Pence and how I really do feellike he just hands down lost that debate.
He did not perform well. Sowhat do I mean by he did

(07:38):
not perform well? He was justannoying all night. He definitely came into
this debate with I want to say, his whole thought process was Trump's not
here, which means I'm the guy. You know, I was the vice
president, I should be next inline, because that's typically how it goes.
You know, you're vice president isthe next in line and gets the

(07:59):
endorsement whatever. But with everything goingon, that's definitely not gonna happen.
With Mike Pence. He is notpopular. He never was popular. He
barely qualified for the debate. Idon't think he'll qualify for the next one
because people just don't like him thatmuch. And he definitely demonstrated why people
shouldn't like him during this debate. He very much gave me an establishment vibe.

(08:20):
He seemed very establishment republican, andwhich is why I think he came
in so self righteous, because outof everybody, he was by far the
most establishment Republican of the people onthat debate stage. And I also think
that's probably why he ended up goingafter Vivek so hard. I don't know
what it was, but Mike Pencehad a personal vendetta against Vivek Ramaswami and

(08:46):
he came after him every single chancehe got. Every single opportunity he had,
he took it and he would throwsomething at the VEC. But to
vvex credit, Vek was able torespond to engage with Mike Pence very well
in a way that didn't make himseem necessarily just combative, which is how
Mike Pence seemed. But that justseemed like he was very good at verbally

(09:09):
defending himself. And yeah, justPence seemed like he was Yeah, I'm
establishment and I know it, andyou guys aren't, so you're beneath me.
This is the Republican Party, andI'm the most Republican Party of all
the Republican Party candidates. And thatwas just the energy he was carrying the
entire night. It was obnoxious. He was self centered, he was self

(09:30):
righteous, and he did a wholelot of trying to butt into things that
had nothing to do with him there. If I had a dollar for every
time Mike Pence would cut in andbe like, hey, can I say
something about that after the hosts askedsomebody else a question, I would be
a very wealthy man and I couldpay enough money to Fox to just get

(09:52):
him off the stage, because hewas. He was the worst part of
that debate far and away, andI don't think anybody up there liked him.
I don't think anybody. I don'tthink he gained anything from being there.
I sincerely hope that he doesn't makeit to the second debate for no
other reason than he is just incrediblyincredibly cringey to watch. I just he

(10:13):
just makes me feel awkward just sittingthere watch him be self centered hurts my
soul deeply on the inside. Ireally hope we don't see him again on
that debate stage, and for thatreason, I think he truly was the
biggest loser. I don't think I'mthe only one who feels this way.
The other candidates seemed to get annoyedby him a lot. The host definitely

(10:33):
he got on their nerves, andhe one hundred percent got on the viewer's
nerves, at least just in mycase. But to Vevex's credit, every
time he would go after Vevec,Vevec would be able to hit back.
Vvek was able to answer. Vvekis a really good debater, which,
once again, I can't say thisenough. I was truly surprised by Vevex's

(10:54):
performance, and I'm not the onlyone. Viveka has been getting a lot
of positive coverage lately. I've beenseeing a lot of him in the news.
As the next couple of days goby and we kind of see the
evolution of his poll numbers, Iwould really love to see where he's sitting
and kind of how this debate endsup turning things around for him. I
wouldn't be surprised if over the nextcouple of weeks and months here he ends

(11:16):
up overtaking Ronda Santis. That wouldnot surprise me at all unless the Santists
really manages to do a complete imageshift. I know he's been trying to
do that for a while, butso far it just hasn't happened. He
still seems awkward, he still seemslike he doesn't really want to be there.
So we'll see how things go.We'll see if Ronda Santis is able
to turn things around for himself. And I'm really looking forward to hearing more

(11:39):
from Vivek because just from what I'veseen in that first debate, I really
liked hearing from him and I can'twait to hear from him some more.
As far as the other candidates go, there wasn't really anything interesting going on.
Bergham and Hutchinson did not need tobe there. Tim Scott did not
need to be there. Those threeI really don't think are going anywhere,
neither of them, None of thosethree are going to end up being the

(12:00):
nominee. Nikki Haley she got onmy nerves a little bit. I liked
a lot of what she said. She did make the statement that Israel doesn't
need us we need Israel, which, regardless of what your thoughts on Israel
are, come on, that's abit interest. Don't you think we need
Israel rather than Israel needing us?Like there was a lot of talk on

(12:20):
the debate stage about Israel's Iron Domethat spoiler alert we built and paid for
for them, so to say thatwe need them rather than it being the
other way around. And don't getme wrong, I think Israel is a
really convenient ally to have in thatregion. But let's not kid ourselves and
say that the greatest superpower in theworld, the United States of America,

(12:41):
needs Israel as an ally. Andnow I do like Israel. I like
that we have them as an ally, but we don't need them as an
ally. There are very few countriesthat we need as allies, plain and
simple. The other thing that shesaid that really got on my nerves was
she tried to pull a Margaret Thatcherquote and be like, if you want
something talked about, ask a manabout it, and if you want something

(13:01):
done, ask a woman about it. That just kind of struck me as
just an obnoxious I am a woman, hear me roar moment, and anyone
who thinks that women aren't just goingto sit and talk about a problem.
Have clearly never asked a woman whatthey want to eat for dinner. Yeah,
I just don't think that line isgoing to play well in the Republican
Party. You could kind of hearshe was wanting applause for that, and

(13:22):
it didn't really happen. So Idon't think she had a great night.
She didn't have a terrible night. She had a few good points, and
she definitely had her moment. Ican definitely see her going farther, But
is she going to be the nominee. I would be very surprised. I
would be very surprised. And thenTim Scott, he really didn't have a
very notable night either. Same forChris Christie. They were both there.

(13:46):
Chris Christie definitely did get to throwsome of his punches, which was fun
to watch just because Chris Christie isvery pugilistic, But all in all,
I don't think Chris Christie really gotanything out of that. Same for Tim
Scott. Tim Scott didn't even throwa punch. He was very much just
there to He was just happy tobe there. He was the ringo star
of the debate. Stage. Okay, now that we've talked about the debate

(14:07):
sufficiently, I do want to mentionthe kind of more breaking news that's come
out lately. Donald Trump has beenarrested. His mug shot has gone out,
which is super big news. We'venever had a president be mug shotted
before, We've never had a presidentbooked and fingerprinted. Of course, his
indictments, him getting new indictments areold news now, but there's still some

(14:28):
of that oh my god, it'sa presidential mug shot that hasn't happened four
times yet, so that's still kindof new. And you will see on
both sides of the aisle, peopleare getting actually very excited about this,
but it is for two different reasons. The Democrats are super excited that Trump
is getting a mug shot because theythink that it's going to be a great

(14:48):
way to shame the president, like, look at this guy, look at
this criminal. Look at this criminalmug shot. You don't want to vote
for him. And then on theRepublican side of the aisle, you have
everybody going, oh my god,Trump got a mug shot. This is
so cool. Quick t shirts, mugs, cozies, everything, just looking
at Trump's campaign website. Right now, I'm seeing one, two, three,

(15:11):
four, five, six, seven, eight nine different items that are
brand spanking new on his website thatare his mug shot. And he's got
on T shirts, he's got onsweaters, He's got a signed mug shot
poster for twenty eight dollars hashtag notsponsored. But yeah, Trump is going
to make a whole bunch of moneyoff of this mug shot. And I

(15:33):
really think the Democrats have shot themselvesin the foot. They just gave this
guy a whole bunch of free advertising. This was so big that Trump,
after swearing off Twitter in twenty twentyone, came back to Twitter. He
swore up and down, I'll nevergo back to Twitter. I'm never posting
on Twitter again. I have mytruth social and then his mug shot comes

(15:54):
out and he has to put iton Twitter, where it immediately gets like
one hundred and eight million views. Now, of course, the big controversy
is whether or not this is goingto help or hurt him in the election.
There's not a question as far asthe primary goes. This definitely helps
Donald Trump. I am confident justby virtue of watching all this go down,

(16:15):
Trump will be the nominee or regardlessof who I support or who I
think is best, I do thinkTrump will be the nominee. And I'm
not necessarily mad about that. Iwould support Donald Trump absolutely, but he
will definitely be the nominee. Ifnothing else, this just sealed it.
If there was any doubt in yourmind, this mug shot should clear that
up for you. Now that doesraise the question of what about the general

(16:37):
election, because this may very wellhurt him in the general election. We
just don't know. We do,of course, know that Trump will make
a bunch of money off this mugshot, and we do know that he
will almost definitely be the Republican nominee. And after that only time will tell.
But yeah, we'll see how thingspan out. Let's hope for the
best. And who knows, anythingcan happen. Man, it's an election.

(16:57):
There's always surprise, all right. With all that out of the way,
let's go ahead and jump right intostuff that I saw online already in
today, on stuff that I sawonline, we actually have multiple of one
single thing I have been noticing juston the internet in general, and you'll
probably have seen some of this too. Every now and again, one of

(17:18):
these will come up on Twitter andmake the rounds for a little bit,
and it's videos of really really entitledinfluencers. What entitled influencers that's so out
of it, Yeah, surprise, surprise. Influencers are super entitled people,
as we have come to find out. Though, most recent one that I
saw was a lady who was likein the gym and she was like setting

(17:42):
up her camera shot in the gymso that she could do her little gym
workout video that they feel the needto do for some stupid reason. Matt
Walsh actually posted that one, andhe's got a bunch of really good takes
on influencers, especially like the fitnessinfluencers who just feel the need to go
in the middle of the workout roomin the gym and just video themselves.

(18:04):
But yeah, this lady's setting upher shot and this dude is just off
to the side, you know, using the gym as intended working out,
and she's like, hey, canyou get out of the way. Can
you move I'm trying to I'm tryingto do my shot. Can you go
do your workout? Go use thegym for its intended purpose over there,
And this guy to his credit wasjust not having it. He was he

(18:26):
was like, no, I'm workingout here. This is what the gym
is for. And this guy wasbeing like super nice and normal that He's
like, knock yourself out, doyour recording, do your gym workout.
I don't care, but I'm notgoing to go out of my way to
move for you. This guy,to his credit, just put his phone
and I was like, no,I'm using the gym for the intended purpose,
so just film your video somewhere else. I'm not moving for you.

(18:48):
If it's really that big of adeal to you, go someplace else.
And then another one that I sawalso on Twitter was some lady just in
a park. I don't know whatshe was doing in this park, but
she wanted to film her little herlittle live stream or whatever there and there
is just some old guy just sittingon a bench, bless his heart,
as old people in parks do.I want to say. This was in

(19:10):
like the UK somewhere. I thinkthey had British accents. But she was
like, excuse me, suck, you just hit my shot. You just
can you go to that bench overthere? You just hit my shot.
This guy's like, I'm just sittingin the bench. I'm this is the
park this is what it's for.I'm an old man. The park bench
is what we were old men weremade for. Film your shot, do

(19:30):
your live stream. I don't care. I don't mind being in your shot.
I don't mind being on the internet. But I'm not going to get
up and walk all the way overthere. I'm a thousand years old.
That's that's a difficult thing for meto do. And she was just not
having it. But the real storythere is that that kind of points to
how entitled just the modern generation whatevergeneration, the group of like eighteen to

(19:53):
twenty five year olds or maybe moretwenty to twenty five year olds that are
just ridiculously entitled, and for whateverreason, these influencers think that because they
have some following that entitles them towhatever space that they want, whatever,
no matter how that affects you.If you're working out, get up and

(20:14):
move. If you're sitting in apark bench, go sitting in another park
bench. This one's mind. Whybecause I said so, and I have
more Instagram followers than you, sowhat I say goes. It's just it
really makes me disappointed for society becauseif that's the group of people that are
going to be setting up to kindof take the reins of leadership in Western

(20:36):
society. What is that going tomean? If that's how this generation approaches
simple things like putting yourself on theinternet, how much more entitled are they
going to be when it comes tohow they run the government? And I
think that's honestly, why things likesocialism have such a strong pull in modern
society is because that really gets rightto how idled people are. I feel

(21:00):
like I want to have this, this, and this without working for it,
and socialism is what gives that tome. And that stems from the
very simple idea of I feel likeI'm entitled to this space in the park
to film my video, and Idon't want you in it, so move.
So Yeah, I just wanted totake a brief minute to talk about
that. It's going to be akind of a short one today. It's

(21:21):
it's not as long as our laststuff I saw online. But I just
wanted to really quickly take this opportunityjust because it was fresh and on the
tip of my mind. And that'sreally what this segment is about. This
is another thing that I really thinkis is just a trend on the Internet
that's really pointing towards what our futureis going to be like, and God
help us if it's a future fullof a bunch of influencers. Don't don't

(21:45):
if you're gonna be a social mediainfluencer. I want to say, don't
be a social media influencer because thereare people that are quote unquote social media
influencers that really do use their platformto kind of put something positive out into
the world, but most of themdon't do that. They're all very entitled
people. It's the same it's thesame brand of people that become politicians.

(22:07):
They're just narcissistic people. So don'ttry not to be that. Just don't
be a social media influencer. Ifyou can avoid it. Unless you really
do feel like you have something positiveto put out there, then knock yourself
out. But just no going intoit. You're not entitled to that particular
park bench, so you know, film your videos at your own risk.
There might be some old guy feedingthe birds in it. Alrighty, now

(22:30):
that I've wasted a significant portion ofyour time, five whole minutes, which
is five minutes way too long tobe talking about social media influencers. But
here we are. This is thefaith that I have chosen for myself.
But thank the Lord. Now we'redone with that, so let's move into
a positive note and let's jump intorandom recommendations. Alrighty, now once again

(22:51):
for random recommendations. I want tojust real quickly remind you guys that none
of this stuff is sponsored. Thisisn't prayed promotions or anything like that.
This is just things that I reallyenjoy. This is music, this is
movies, this is TV shows thatjust really entertain me, and I just
want to share them with you becauseI get a kick out of them personally.
And today I've got for you aband. It's called The Who.

(23:12):
It's not the one you're thinking of. Every time I say hey, have
you heard the Who, Everybody's like, yeah, of course I've heard the
Who. No, you haven't heardthe Who. I'm talking about. I'm
not talking about that Who. I'mtalking about Hu The Who. They are
a Mongolian folk rock band, whichis quite a combo. It's got all
that kind of like normal rock metaltone to it, but then it's also

(23:37):
they've got a couple of songs thatare just more folky and like all of
their music has those traditional Mongolian instrumentsin it, which is really cool.
And most of their music, ifnot all of it, has that Mongolian
throat singing, which I know thatturns a lot of people off. A
lot of people like that it soundsweird. I think it's a really cool
sound like that, and Gregorian Chance, I really enjoy listening to that.

(24:00):
It's a very interesting type of musicto me. And this band does a
really good job of combining that Mongolianthroat singing with more traditional rock and metal
elements, and then of course theymeld in that kind of folky music that
I'm also a really big fan of. That's one of the reasons why I
like country music and like older songs. I listened to a lot of like
civil war music and stuff, justbecause I like that folk vibe. And

(24:21):
then they kind of wrap that upin metal and rock, and of course
there's Mongolian, so you don't knowthey're singing in Mongolian. You have no
idea what they're saying, but youknow what sounds cool, you know.
But yeah, I just wanted toquickly recommend that band. It's really unique,
it's really cool. I have noticedthem getting a lot of attention lately.
Of course, they were in StarWars Jedi Fall in Order. If

(24:42):
you played that game, the songthat they play at the opening when you're
watching the drone fly in, that'stheir songs. So they are kind of
making it more into the mainstream, which I really love to see. So
I just wanted to take that quickmoment to recommend this band to you guys.
Alrighty, and that's gonna do itfor today's episode. I want to
thank you all very much for listening. If you like what you heard today,

New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
