Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. Uh, really blessed to be here, Honored to
be able to lead this football team at Beulah and
be with these group of guys. Uh, thank you, thank
you for allowing us to be here. iHeartRadio, Fox Sports,
A game, d Mark Sassurvan, everybody associated with this first

(00:20):
baptist Opolac at this great venue. So we're really excited
about being here. We're really excited about what this means.
We know kickoffs right around the corner, schools about to start.
So yeah, we're really appreciative to be here and represent
our school. I've got four seniors with me. There are
four out of the twelve that we have on this

(00:42):
year's football team. Twelve seniors, seven juniors. So we've got
a lot of upper classmen. In saying that, you know,
we've got a lot of upperclassmen, but there's some inexperience there.
These guys are experienced though they've been through it with us.
We've had some six us the past two years by
making the playoffs in the first round. Last year going

(01:04):
six and five, played Houston Academy in the first round.
Of course, they went on to play in the state
championship game. It was a pretty good team. Our goal
is to figure out what we need to do as
a team to get through that first round hurdle. That's
the goal. We want to make the playoffs every year.
We want to win the area, and how can we

(01:26):
continue to progress as a football team. How can we
work harder to get out of that first round and
do something that hadn't been done in quite a while
at Beulah. Like I said earlier, we've got twelve seniors
on this team, seven juniors and then sophomore's twelve, and
we've gotten nine freshmen that have that are helping us
as well. Those freshmen some of those we split time

(01:48):
with our JV team as well. We've got forty guys
on our roster. I think those numbers are good. We
had about fifty sign up, but with the heat and
the grind of what football is, we've lost a few.
But we're really appreciative of the forty that have stayed
with us. We've had good attendance this summer. We had
a seven on seven opal like I feel like we

(02:08):
performed well, figured out a lot about us. The next
day we went to Auburn did Ota played some really
high quality teams there as well. We had a I
guess a one on one with Valley, went to Valley
and did a seven on seven with them, was able
to control the environment with ourselves and coach Hunter, and

(02:29):
again competed with a really good Valley team too. So
we've had a productive summer. We've been productive in the
weight room conditioning, and I'm really proud of the way
that we've responded this summer and how it is setting
us up for August twenty second, when Abbeyville comes to town.
We start with Abbeyville. They've got a new coach. I

(02:49):
know they're always athletic. They've been athletic the past two
years when we've played them, so we we expect some
athletes to come in on August twenty second into our
new stadium. We played Lytnette away the next game, and
then we jump right into area play with a really
good Daville team, Lee Scott and glen Wood back to back.

(03:10):
We'll play Lochapoka. We have bb Comer, they're always well coached,
played Childsburg they have a new coach as well this year,
and then we'll finish with Randolph County and then Taga
Academy on October thirtieth again thank you guys for allowing
us to be here, and we'll take questions.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Hey, coach, we just spoke that you took over the
head coach position after being the DC. So what's been
or what was the team's identity and culture like last season?
What do you hope to add to it this season?

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I think our culture has always been at NEWLA. It's
blue collar.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
It's work.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
That's always kind of been our motto is to put in,
you know, the work that's needed to be done. Coach
Johnson did a really good job of that. We continue
to drive that. I think now it's how can we
push through the mental aspects of that. How can we
stand in that gap and be steady when those storms come.

(04:11):
I told the guys earlier I read a book over
Father's Day. I'll give a shout out to the Rick
Burgess Show. I read Men Don't Run in the Rain,
and I came back and told them how profound the
book was and how we want to interject that into
our team devotions about what that means for men not
to run in the rain and to be steady and
not frantic when those storms come. So again, having those

(04:35):
conversations with our guys and then creating those atmospheres in
practice to where we are creating some adversity for them
and allowing them to push through that. So again building
on that culture of working hard, but also being you know,
men that don't run or men that don't get frantic
when things happen.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Back here, coach, what do you think.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Your team can do to make it to the playoffs
this year?

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Well, right now, we're working on the things that we
can control, and that's the weight room and conditioning. It's
been hot out there, but these guys have taken to it.
We've done a lot of conditioning this year to be
able to push through and go four quarters. That's our
goal is, you know, we cannot wear down. Like I said,

(05:23):
we've got forty guys on our roster, but about twenty
six of those are newcomers. So those ones and twos
have got to go the distance, and then we've got
to be able to develop these young guys. So again,
just pushing through and making sure that we're conditioned for
four quarters, we're conditioned for ten games, and then pushing
into the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, coach, like you said, you have a bunch of
newcomers on the team. Two part question. First, what are
some of the major areas that you need to fill
on the team in terms of like position groups and
all that good stuff. And second, with that opportunity comes excitement.
So what are you personally most excited about.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, first, first question, we lost a lot of size
on the offensive line. I don't want to say we
lost a lot of depth on the offensive line. I've
got Brandon Tapley and Stone Williams with me. They played
last year on the offensive line. Thiago Pedro as well,
so we've got three guys that are coming back. We've
got guys that actually, you know, they played meaningful snaps

(06:22):
last year on our offensive line too, so it's building
depth behind them. So I think right now our focus
is finding depth along the offensive defensive line that we
know we've got to be able to run the football
and we've got to stop the run. So that being
our overall limpsis. I feel like on the outside our
skill guys, we've got guys that are coming back, We've
got some speed. And then defensively as well, our back

(06:42):
end is going to be pretty good. And then secondly
to your second question, I'm just excited about leading these guys.
Most of these guys up here. I think every one
of these guys are up here in multi sport athletes.
So I've been able to be around them, I've been
in the program. So just being able to lead them
and kind of you know, serve them in every area
that we can serve them, to put them in a

(07:03):
situation to be successful. I think that's the That's what
that's what excites me. That's what you know, gets to
say there every morning, is to be able to put
these guys in the best atmosphere to be successful.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Coach, if you let the players come up, guys come
up and give your name and two questions, what's it
like to have a new coach and how hard is
he own you? And the second thing is, yeah, you
don't have to look at him when you answer that,

(07:36):
he's going to hide over there.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
The second thing is what are your goals and how
hard have you worked for it this year?

Speaker 5 (07:42):
All right?

Speaker 4 (07:42):
My name came money livesey ain't nothing hard for We
had them before. We are to know what they spect.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
And my goal is.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
To figure out how to be better and make it
such a sick one up the playoffs and have a
good record.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
H I'm bringing Tapley and may be a new coach,
but we've been around here my whole entire career, and
my goal personally is be able to leave my team
and lead us out of the first round of the
playoffs this year.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
My name is Stone Williamson, and having him as a
new coach just means we practiced defense a little more
than last year, we did offense more, and our goals
just get over the hump of the first round of playoffs.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
My name is Huntery DePaul obviously been around coach coursing
all my career growing up, and my goal for the
season is just get over the first round playoff hump
and just be able to grow not only as teammates
but as men and just have a good season
