Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hotline. We're going to Valley the twelfth Tech country over
the Valley High School. Adam Hunters, the head coach of
the round, and he's live. Good morning, Adam. How you doing, Bud.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm good, Dear Mark, how y'all.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
I'm good, coach. Thank you for calling in. I'm sorry
I didn't send that text last night. Man, I forgot
I wrote it, didn't send it.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
It's all good, It's all good. Good.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
How's everything in the Valley this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's going pretty good, going pretty good, you know, just
battling the head a little bit, which everybody's doing so yeah,
you know, just trying to get ready for a game.
So uh, you know, at that time of year, it's
gonna be good to hit on somebody else other than
I say. So, you know, that's the kids looking forward
to it makes it working hard.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
So one good. Everybody is ready to play it this
time of the year, aren't they?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Better be the glen Wood Gators coach. Wow, this is
a good program. You got Christian with him last year
early on, didn't you.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
That's right, you know, and and that's what we talked
about last year. You know that they were a private
school coming into the out of my high school athletic association.
But you know, they've got kids that have played, you know,
in in public schools for little while, so you know
they're they're gonna be good. They're gonna be well coached
in all phases of the game. So we've got to
really bring our a game and compete. That's what we
(01:17):
want to do. We want to compete and be there
in the fourth court and have a chance to win. There.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
You go, what kind of team offensively do you have?
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Code?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
What are you looking to do?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
You know, we're gonna we're gonna mix it up a
little bit, trying to spread the ball out a little
bit and get it in space and get it to
our athlete. You know, that's gonna be one thing. Got
a quarterback that that can sit back and read very
well with the defense. And you know, I think Caden
has matured a lot since last year, even more so
when he transferred here. So you know, we're gonna rely
(01:46):
on him to lead the offense big time, you know,
and that's something he can do. I think, you know,
he likes that challenge. So, uh, it's gonna be interesting
to see what we can do offensively. I think, you know,
if we can if we can execute and went on
first down, Uh, this offense could be pretty good.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
You know what, Coach Adam Hunter with US Valley around football,
you're on the Mark d Mark, Jeff James Cooper and
the North Peter Clinton Studio, beautiful morning outside. You are
so right, coach. You got to have first downs. The
key down there is as year Coach Wilson, some of
them say there's third and eight. They ain't a third
and eight high school player, third and ten, you know
what I mean, that's hard to do, anty, coach.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
That's right. You get in long down situations, you know,
and it's tough in the third down situation lowyards. So
you know, you got to win on first down. And
that's what's gonna be key for us. We've got to
get in situations where we destretched the field, feel comfortable
stretching the field. H And to do that, you got
to win on first downs. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
What about you upfront guys, Coach, you got size quickness,
what you look like?
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, we're average up front the size wise. You know,
we're about the same as we have been in the
past five six years. You know, we've We've got, uh
two seniors starting two juniors, with three seniors starting in
two juniors, So you know, we've got some experience up front.
We've got one that is just now, you know, getting
a bigger role, but everybody else up front has played
(03:06):
a lot of football, so you know, we we can
we can be pretty good up front if we, you know,
put it all together. You know, I think it's gonna
be key of those guys winning the trenches. You know,
that's gonna be big force. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
And on the other side of the ball, coach got
to play defense. We both know that. Give me that
stile of the ball.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah. You know, I think you know the anchors of
our defense, our inside linebacker Keland Listen and basically Yver.
Both of them are coming back. Both of them led
the team and tackles last year. So you know, we're
really excited about those guys leading that defense. Gonna see
some new faces up front for us. You know, we
got two guys that that's gonna have to play a
lot up front. That's gonna be new. And then we
(03:44):
got Antoine Hatchett who's coming back at defensive end force
as a senior who's played the past two years. So
you know, those guys are gonna be It's crucial, you know,
just like I just said, we got to win the
game up front and force those long damage situations. Defense.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, guys, coach, have you got some skill guys?
Speaker 2 (04:04):
You know, we're pretty skill heavy. You know. I think
our receiving cords a good group we've got, you know,
Aidan Johnson, Melakai McCullum, all those have played a lot
of football games. Case and Varner has stepped up big time. Uh.
And then Tristan highwell, he's going to be our scat
guy and he can you know, take the top off
(04:24):
and really go. So you know, those guys are good.
Secondary wise, We've got a lot of experience coming back,
you know, not as far as playing and starting, you know,
but they've got a lot of snaps in the past
couple of years. So we're looking forward to seeing them
grow and seeing what they can do and go.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
All right, special teams, coach, we know how important that is.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, we're gonna have a new kicker this year. You know,
We've We've got a kid that has come out and
got a strong leg, has done really good for us,
you know, so we're looking forward to him. I think
we've got to get him out there and and see
how he does under the lights. But in practice he's
been lighted out. So uh, we're looking for big things out.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
And robust kickoff, can kick it deep, kick it deep.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
We're hoping that's gonna help us. You know, he's he's
getting more consistent, and I think we can get it
in the ends on some So you know, that's gonna
be big if we can get more consistent with that.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Yeah, I understand that. You sound like you're feeling pretty
good about your team, coach.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, I think you know, I think this team is
really jailed good. I think they've come together as a team.
They've worked harder than an offseason. You know, they they're hungry,
they want to win, so, you know, regardless of what happens,
I think this team's gonna fight every Friday. So I
think that's that's big brus. They want to do the
right thing, they want to learn. They they're coachable, so
(05:44):
that's gonna be huge.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, are you all healthy, coach, you haven't seen anybody
this week or you got them all?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Uh, well, we got one out and definitely right now
he's out and we don't know how long that will be,
but other than that, everybody else is pretty help.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Okay, deal numbers or have you got a big team, coach,
as far as size and your numbers, just numbers, I
mean now.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah, we're about seventy. We got seventy kids out right now,
so you know, numbers are about a little more than
what we had in the past couple of years, but
about about average for us.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Okay, good deal. Anything I leave out you want to
bring up, coach, Oh.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Let's just we were ready to get out there on
Friday night and need the community to come out of support,
and we know they will and go round.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
There you go round Stadium, kick off seven o'clock. That'll
be against the Glenwood Gators. Adam Hunter, good to talk
to you. Look forward to see you tomorrow night at MOS.
All right, buddy, yes, sir, thank you. Go rounds that
