Speaker 1 (00:00):
Three. Two places for you to go dine in Auburn.
Great places to have lunch, brunch, mid afternoon, and of
course they have a good supper and both of them
have adult beverages to last, got academy we go. The
head coach of the Warrior baseball team is Jared Cook,
and he is with us.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Good morning, Coach Cook, Good morning, guys. How are we doing?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Were good? We're good. How about you?

Speaker 2 (00:21):
We're doing well? Doing well?

Speaker 1 (00:22):
I'm good. Good. Tell me about the Warriors. Where are
we at, coach? I know we made the playoffs and
we got playoff games next week, right.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yes, sir? Yes, sir?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Friday, Yeah Friday, Yeah, go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah. First off, I just you know, I want to
say how proud I am of our coaching staff and
our players and you know, really just our whole program,
you know, heading into the playoffs this week. And yeah,
I think after after the first few games in the
start of the season, when we were trying to find

(00:58):
some things, I don't know that anybody expected us to
really be here. So I'm just proud of our you know,
toughness we've showed and the resilience in our guys, and
you know, we're we're heading to thorsby Friday to play
a good, good baseball program up there, and you know
we'll play. We'll play two games on Friday. The first

(01:21):
game we'll start at four thirty PM, with game two
to follow, and then if there's a split, this game
would be Saturday at two o'clock.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Okay, Now, if i'm adding up, you've won fourteen at
seventeen if my math is correct. Now, I ain't saying
that's quick. That's a quick run. That's the heck of
a team you play at fourteen to eighteen maybe something
like that. Your team's playing good baseball. Since we last
talked last Tuesday, you've you readed off for win with
Alabama Christian. You beat Central eleven and nine, Alabama Christian

(01:54):
sixty five. You lost to Marlbury four or five, and
beat Montgomery Catholic on Monday seven three. Kind of give
me a rap on those games, coach, if you will.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, you know, I think I think each game kind
of had its its own story, if you will. You know,
we we came out a little flat against a c A.
I felt like, you know, finding found a way to
win that one. And you know Pitt's good enough to

(02:24):
to really win every game we played last week. You know,
defensively we were better in other games than some you know,
kind of the same thing with offensively. You know, we've
done some good things and some things we still have
left to improve on. But you know, our pictures have

(02:45):
given us a chance to win for the most part.
During that that little run that you know that you
were talking about, and uh, that's that's that's the good
thing to see. And defensively we've we've done some things better.
So you know, overall, I like where we are. You know,

(03:06):
there's just some things that we need to clean up
going into the playoffs from a mindset standpoint, but uh,
you know, our guys will be fired up, they'll be
ready to play, and we're we're looking forward to making
the road trip we had.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
To Michael twenty and ten at least God is right now.
Twenty one and ten had headed into the playoffs finishing
second on the road Thorsby. I don't know much about Thorsby.
Coach hadn't looked them up. I know where Thorsby is located,
don't know a little bit about their school, but I
don't know about their team. What are we looking at.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
You know, they were they were in Class two A
last year. Uh, they're fastened success and been in the playoffs,
So you know they'll they'll, they'll compete. They'll be a
scrappy little team, and you know they're going to have
some guys that that I believe they can win on
the mound. And you know, at this point in the year,

(03:58):
you know, just about everything that's in is in for
a reason, and you know you got to go play,
you know, good clean baseball to to win playoff playoff
series in advance. So you know, we've we've got to
play to the standard that that we're trying to to
build and maintain. And as long as we do that,

(04:21):
we'll be okay.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, are they twenty eight eight and three coats? Am
I right to say that? Is that right?

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Uh? I think I know they've won twenty something games.
I'm not exactly sure on there. Yeah, yeah, looking uh
their schedule, but yeah, I mean they'll they'll, they'll be
ready to compete. So you know, we we played on
the road a lot, uh this past week, so we

(04:51):
we should build a handle a road trip and handle
it the right way and and be mentally ready to.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Play I'm looking at their schedule and they don't hold
a stick to yours. So I mean, I'm not trying
to be you know, they won their area and they
went four to o May most had a three team area.
They won it because they haven't played near the schedule
you have. I'll say that you played a very difficult schedule.
They did not. I'm sure you've looked through that, so

(05:16):
I don't know. I don't know what that means except
you played the harder schedule.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, and look to each the son. You know, we
feel like that's prepared us. Yeah, you know the same
time everybody's zero zero Now that's right. You know you
got to go got to go play in somebody else's
backyard under their lights. And that's that's what gives me
goose bumps and makes me want to put the uniform

(05:43):
back on and play.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
I understand that. You know what, though you'd won twenty
eight with the schedule, is what I was trying to say,
or more so, that's all I will say, is that,
but you do or correct, you got to go out
there on the lines, as you said, next pitch mentality,
give me that first one on the hill where you're
looking at if you made your mind up or you
one of those that talk about it.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Nah, Now, I'm not going to share any information on.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
That, Okay, No, I just don't. I didn't know how
you thought about that. I wasn't sure. I never have
asked you.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, oh yeah, I already know.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
I just uh yeah, I do that.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
We're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna keep that to us.
And but no, I like, I like what we're doing
on the mound, and you know, we we've got we've
got a young, in experienced staff for the most part,
but you know, they're getting better and better each time

(06:34):
they go out there and competing in their tails Offso
that's you. That's good to see us. As you get
it to the back end of the year, you want
to see progress. You know, sophomores are really now juniors,
and juniors are really now seniors with the experience they've had.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
So you kind of mentioned it early, and you kind
of paid a tribute to it and mentioned it the
As far as the YAH team, you mentioned how much
better they've gotten, tell me about do you think they've
gotten that much better than from when they started to announce?
It appears I haven't seen him play a lot, coach,
but it appears from keeping up with it on game Channel,

(07:13):
they've gotten a lot better as years going along.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, I mean I think you know, obviously you talk
about team, but it starts with the individuals. So I mean,
I do think individual players have gotten better. You know,
I think kids have become more coachable, they've bought in more,
and so yeah, I do think at times when we're playing,

(07:39):
you know how we're capable of playing. You know, it's
it's clicked and you know, confidences everything, but you know
it starts with your day to day have it so
right now, the right now, the message is, you know,
this week is what what has made us successful, what

(08:02):
has got us here, and we've got to continue to
do those things and do them at a high level
so we can be prepared for anything going into the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Yeah, there you go. This is what you play for
and you guys have done a heck of a job. Coach,
you're sitting here in your first HSA area. What have
you thought has been different? Coach? What's been different for
you dealing with this here at least got.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Yeah, I mean I think I don't know about different.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeah, it's not a good word.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
I guess, well, I mean I've I've been coaching this
leave for what fifteen sixteen years now, But I think
I think for the players, it's you know, neither good
or bad. But I think it's it's probably showing up
to the part and not really knowing a lot about

(08:53):
the team across from you. And that can be a
good thing so and sometimes it can be a bad thing.
But you know, I think probably probably the biggest difference
is is just you know, no direspect to the aissay,
but you know, you got to show up, you know,
especially with the schedule we kind of built. I mean,

(09:14):
you got to show up ready to compete day in
and day out. And I don't know any other way,
you know, as a coach, as a coach and a competitor,
I mean, I want to play some of the best
around and so I think probably the most challenging part
is just saying, hey, you know, we've got to come

(09:35):
ready to practice and get better every day. And you know,
we don't really have the mental advantage over everybody we play,
you know, because you're playing a new league, you're playing
a you know, a new schedule. So I think that's
probably been the thing that sticks out to me the

(09:56):
most is just you know, we got to got to
come compete at the park day in and day out.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Also, you didn't have to travel as far to play
heavy Coach, that's been a blessing. I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Yeah, we hadn't. I mean we've chose to in some case.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Well you know what I mean. You didn't have to go. Yeah,
you didn't have to go to.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Moro, that's right.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, you know, just to play a reason game. So
you got to play some.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Local games and you know, it's really good baseball around
the Auburn area.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
And then of course you can go hour up the
road and play some really good baseball on the Montgomery area.
You can go across the state line in Georgia a
little over an hour and play some good baseball. So yeah,
that's that's been really nice.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
All right, coach, good luck this weekend, Thank you very much.
And that'll be Friday, Saturday, right, coach, if game on Saturday?

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Correct?

Speaker 1 (10:44):
All right? Correct, appreciate your time. Coach, good luck traveling, Yes, sir,
hope to talk to you next week. Go Warriors, Yes, sir,
Jared Cook, he's the head coach at least got Warriors
big series this week
