incredible places for you to dine. Keith Ethridge is the
head football coach of the Auburn Tigers, and he is
live on that hot line. What's going on, coach, Good morning,
what's up?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Guy's long time while?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Man, it's been a minute, coach. Now we get to

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Absolutely absolutely we're missing y'all. Guys.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Man, I miss you. I like your personalized emoji there. Man,
I like that. I like to fell out look at
that you got.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
You got to keep that up, man, And you know
that's awesome, coach.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I fell out of my chair when I saw that last.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Kind of like a running joke with the with the
with some of RP department, because every time they send
something like I'll send the thumbs up and they they
and I respond to all so they get a kick
out of it. So I made my own personal coach.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
That's that's awesome. What's going on over with the tigers? Coach?
What you doing these days? I know your word? We
have nothing to do now, nothing to.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Do right now? You know the people don't understand this
thing like this thing's year round, you know. But these
these guys are working really hard. We'll make some great
strides in the weight room. You know. I've got some
We've got some guys who are getting bigger, faster, stronger,
and we got to we lost a really good group.
We've got a really good group coming in though they're

(01:23):
they're working really really hard. You know, some some names
you you know saw last year, like like CJ. Carnell, Jackson,
Trenton Fritchett, Greg Williams, Gamston Cash. I mean, there's a
list goes on and on. These guys are working hard,
Bucker ALBN, you know, and they're making some big strides

(01:47):
for us. BJ McGee in the secondary. So I'm just
really really proud of how hard they're working right there.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I'm good, I know. Yet now you lost a big class.
We almost fifty maybe no.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
We lost thirty one. And it's actually all this class.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Oh I was, you know what, like I had the
big class. I'm sorry coaching, Yeah it was.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
I mean it was a really really small class for
us because we had you know, we had had under
forty you know since I've been here, and this year
it was thirty one. But there was some good ones.
I mean, it's some really good ones. So you know,
we've got to play some really good guys and you know,
these young guys are stepping up. You know. It's it's
really funny because you know, you look during the season,

(02:26):
you get towards the end of the season and you know, uh,
season ends, and you're looking at those guys that just
got done playing that are seniors. You're like, how was
gonna replace this guy? And you know and three months later,
you know, one of these other guys that have been
in the weight room and their bodies have changed. And
you know, these fifteen, sixteen, seventeen year olds, you never

(02:48):
know when they're gonna hit puberty and start you know,
filling out and things like that. And it always happened.
You know, somebody steps in there and you know they
just start working and you know, their body changing and
they get you know, they just change, you know, and
and they get more physical, and it's it's amazing and

(03:08):
twenty you know, I've been doing this twenty five years
and to watch these kids grow up right before your
eyes for the three four year span that you have them,
you know, is just so special.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, it is. You lost a junior running back to coach. Right,
it went out early too. I just thought about that
and maps yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Oh yeah, Yeah, he's phenomenal. You know, he's going to
be a kid that's gonna make his market Auburn. I
think early. I think that he's you know, he's ready.
Usually I would if that was the case, I would
go in, I say, you don't do this, you know
you need some more time, But he really don't. He's

(03:46):
one of those kids. You know, physically he's ready. Mentally
he's ready. You know, academically he's ready. You know, he
has the whole gauntlet and he can step in. Man.
I feel like he can't help Alvern next year.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
About that, that's unreal. Yeah, he's a phenomena young man.
I like his father too, been able to meet him
and good folks.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Keith Ethers with us Auver High football coach talking Tiger
football coach. A schedule, you got it ironed out. Let's
go big, big, the big one with OPLAC and Auburn
on a Thursday. Let's go with your schedule.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah yeah, we got Booker out of Sarasota, Florida. Okay,
game one, Uh, they're coming up. We got a really good,
really good group of players, got the number one listed
as number one running back into twenty twenty seven class,
got a really good quarterback, some really good skill guys.
So you know they're coming up for game one. Game

(04:38):
two we go to Vestavia. That's on Thursday night, and uh,
you know we play them on Thursday because Auburn plays
on Friday. Auburn Baylor play.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Oh yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
So we decided to play that one Thursday night. And
then of course the next game you got Opalaka who's
you know oplakas you know on Thursday night. Also because
it's going to be the album on High School Athletic
Siation Game of the Week, so we moved that one
to Thursday. So, uh, and I have not even looked pastove, Like.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, I figured that. I figured that.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
You know, you get two three games in you don't
want especially, you know, a big game.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Like that, op Like, you know, I think both. I'm sorry, coach,
I cut you right off. I thought you were Yeah,
I'm well, I think OPA plays Jeff Timmy. Don't they
play Callaway Thursday the week before. I think both of
y'all are playing Thursday games. Coach, Yeah, I'm.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Sure because you know that Albun game being on Friday,
that you know, the crowd just ain't gonna be great
unless you you know, unless you play on that Thursday night.
I talked to coach Evans. I talked to coach Evans
from Vestadian and he was like, we we have a
lot of album fans here in Vestavia too, and he
said he wanted that gate to be good. So you know,

(05:54):
I wanted to move that thing till Thursday night a little.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I love college, but I don't like I don't like
it that they they need to get out all that. Coach,
I don't like all that, you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (06:04):
A little different. You know, it's a little different playing
on fri night. I know you never have a college game.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Well that's what I'm talking about. That's the high school
night without heighth Well I would say without high school,
colleges can't roll. But nowadays they can go pluck them out.
I'm just kidding. But anyway, we can't argue about that.
But do you know that you do you from me?
Do you have your familiarity with the rest of the
schedule or.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Uh, you know, I I'm that's all I'm looking at it.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Right now, that's all right, don't worry back, of course
we got we see if I.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Can, You're gonna have our You're gonna have our our region. Guys.
You know you got Dopings late in the year. You
got Carver a little bit late in the year, got
Central Phoenix. Uh, I think Oplaka and then we then
we're uh maybe Central Phoenix or Jiz.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
You got Enterprise Summer in the middle in there too,
Enterprise after Yeah, that's what I was just yeah, all right,
let's see now I got you. Is it similar to
last year's similar last all right? All right? So you
go to ft AV, you go to Plaika, then you
host Enterprise, which would be the fourth week. Then you
are you is Jack coming here again? Coach?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
I know, we'll go there, all right.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Then you then you host Central that would be game five.
Then you go to Smiths. Then you're hosting Carver and
then Dothan's that is the third week in October.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
We go there, all right.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Now, you had an open weekend between that. Are you
open again?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
No? No, no, we played Moody.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Okay, you were supposed to play Moody last year, wasn't you?

Speaker 2 (07:33):
And the weather came through and they wouldn't change it
to Friday.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
And okay, big man, all right, so where is that
Moody game? A coach?

Speaker 2 (07:41):
It's here?

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Okay? So is it on a Friday? Right? M okay?
And then you've got Dothan, Bob Jones and Thompson? And
was Thompson regular season game? Coach?

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Was that?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
And Bob Jones wasn't? Neither was it?

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Bob Jones? And my bad?

Speaker 1 (07:56):
It's just got the more your schedule. So Dothan was
your last game?

Speaker 2 (07:59):
And then I guess that was the last home game?

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Yeah, I mean it was the.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Last home right, And then you are you have a
week off of four playoffs?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Coach? We do? Yeah, our boys that week good playoffs.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, that's what I was looking at. You probably liked
that a lot better, don't you.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, we do. And we tried to keep that like that.
You know, we were we're looking for a game that
week zero because the Miami team that we played, they
you know, they said they were coming the whole time.
And then about I would say about in January, late January,

(08:33):
early February, may have been a little bit later than that,
they called and said that they weren't gonna be able
to make the trip.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I remember.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Tell me about what you guys doing right now? Coach
with your team? What are you able to do and
what do you do?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, we're working out Monday through Thursday, I mean Monday
through Friday. Uh, Wednesday's kind of our day where we
go out and through the little competition little seven on
seven you know, uh some old line d line stead
but you know, uh, just we'll get after it in
the wait. But you know, our kids are are doing

(09:09):
a fantastic job of you know, coming in and working
hard and just you know, just doing what they need
to do to be able to compete in this region.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Man, if you got them all in there working out
that you can't do you work out your players that
are playing spring sports to them at once, I guess
two questions.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Once, Yeah we have Well, I'll sort of give you
a rundown. We go, we go three different places work out.
We got a upstairs weight round or downstairs weight room,
and then a turf room. We we do our speeding,
agility stuff and stretching and stuff in the turf room
and then you know, uh then we have all of

(09:46):
our our upstairs is basically our our cleans and push
press and things like that, those lists, and then downstairs
where we we do our big lists are being church
squad and all that stuff. And we rotate our kids
because we have so many we can't put them all

(10:06):
in one weight rooms, so we rotate them. One group
will be in the church room, you know, one group
will be in the in the in the main weight room,
and then the other group will be upstairs. So they're
twenty five minutes per station, and we rotate them every
twenty five minutes. And our kids, you know, it's like clockworth.
It's like we're going out and watching I mean, you've

(10:26):
been out to one of our practices, you know. I
mean it is everything's all time and things move in.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
And our kids, our kids, you know, really respond to that,
you know, I mean we could, I really could walk
in in the morning say a couple of words and
they could get after it. And they don't even need
us there. They've done it enough where they know exactly
what to do. They they get in there and they
do it, and you know, of course we put the

(10:56):
whistle on them, you know, so the timing stuff is on,
but everything else these kids understand it.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
That's awesome. That's awesome. What about old Braiden, Barbara, how's
he doing, Coach, how's o'braiden?

Speaker 2 (11:07):
He's doing?

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Brennan? I called him Brendan his name. I called him Braiden.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
I'm sorry, Yeah, Brent Brennan's doing great. Man. We've got
there's a whole group of that defensive line group that is, uh,
We're gonna have some really good players up there, great speed,
great size, you know, Brendan, cam Creighton, Uh, Wake Wages, Elijah,

(11:31):
you know, all those guys, our edge guys. And then
of course we got about three or four guys in
the middle, you know. And you know, you've got Cornell Jackson,
who's a humongous space eater. He's garnering a lot of attention.
He just picked up an Arkansas offer the other day.
He's got about every one of the group of five offers.

(11:54):
He's about six three, about three forty five, and he
then moved. And then you've got and Kings and a
sophomore who's who had a great year last year, who
will be big for us this year. So yeah, up
there up front, you know, and the thing about that
group is there's extremely hard work, and guys like bringing Barber,

(12:16):
I mean, he will stick here. I call it sticking
your face in the fans love. He's gonna do whatever
you ask him to do, and he's gonna do one
hundred miles an hour. And that's where Camp Craigon and
Wages and CJ and Colin and all those.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Guys are well, that's good. That's good. So coach, are
you having a spring We are?

Speaker 2 (12:35):
We are. We start April twenty six, and we'll go
we go three days a week. I'll shoot you over
my springs as a matter of fact. And you know
we'll go three days a week for until that last week.
We'll go four days. That last week, have our little
scrimmage on the Thursday to fifteenth to May. And you know,

(12:57):
we've tried to find somebody to play. You know, we
got it. We played Benjamin Russell last year. But I
think you know, with Kirk coming over, you know, they
were they were not going to do a spring game.
They were going to do like an inner squad scrimmage,
so they they sort of sort of canceled that game.

(13:19):
You know, I think they canceled it. You know, the
athletic director the comedy before and kind of canceled it
before Kirk got over there, just saying, you know, they're
going to have a new coach coming in and you
know they didn't want to Yeah, I get it, Yeah,
and I understand that. Yeah. We we kind of got
into the the thing over at Troy with that. Charles

(13:42):
Henderson heads up, we're gonna play and the team that
I guess the team that we were going to play
dropped out whenever they saw they were going to play us,
and you know, it sort of put us in a
position where I didn't want them not to have anybody
in it. So you know, I just said, well, we'll

(14:03):
just do We'll just kind of do a blue white
game before we have to because it was going to
be hard for them to find somebody to play us.
So you know, just you know, we've been looking though.
We're still trying to find a spring game. So any
coaches out there looking for a game, we love to
love to play a little spring game we can do
at home all the way.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
There you go, there, you go. You know, people don't
have People don't have a clue how hard it is
to schedule these games. Do they coach?

Speaker 2 (14:28):
It is it's very hard, especially when you've had success,
you know, really really tough, and you know you don't
want to go in and you don't want to go
play no monsters during spring. And I understand that, you know, Auburn,
you know, we're one of the bigger school in the state,
you know, and nobody wants to nobody wants to go

(14:48):
in get beat up there in the spring. But you know,
people also don't understand it's a spring game. You know,
you kind of want to just play a half and
then play you young guys, you know.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
So, yeah, it depends on how you look at it.
All right, buddy, everybody in the family, doing good, coach.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yeah, doing great, good, great, good, good deal about everybody,
We're all good. Coach.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Jeff sitting over here, being quiet, he being good over
this morning. He just taking he just taking it all in.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
I was like, you're gonna saying, yeah, I'm probably on
the fifteenth to watch the Blue White game.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Oh yeah, I thought I thought Jeff may had a
biscuit in.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
He doesn't have the biscuit. Coujo is snoozing. You don't
put him to sleep. He's propped up looking. Man. If
you in about five minutes he'll be but he don't
have the biscuit. He's ready, So all right, buddy, you
have a great day, coach. Always good to talk to you,
all right, Yes, sir, I love you much, buddy. See

(15:46):
you later, yes, sir. Coach Keith ether is the head
coach of the Auburn High football team
