Speaker 1 (00:02):
First off, I just want to thank you all for
having us here today. I'm Jeremy Phillips, the head coach
at Horse You've been high school. Just kind of looking
back at last year. We had a really good year
for US. I ended up making the playoffs, finishing six
and five, falling in the first round. But overall, I
was really pleased with how last year went. I think

(00:24):
that the guys really balled into what we're.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Wanting to do. We want to run the ball and hit.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
The deep pass when we get a chance, and flying
around on defense.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
So I was really pleased with that.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Losing nine nine seniors from last year, all nine we're
big contributors for US. Last year we ended up with
two over two thousand to to let's see two thousand
yard rushers, losing one of them when Corey woods where
he's going to play at Barlymine University. We got Braxton back,

(00:57):
he rushed for over fifteen hundred yards last year. Losing
two key offensive linemen, multiple defensive players, so there's a
lot of shoes to feel for us going into this year.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
I've been really pleased with the summer.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
I think that the guys that really really focused on
getting stronger and faster and learning the concepts that we're
trying to teach.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
And I've been I've been really pleased with.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Especially the newcomers that's coming and they're picking up what
we're doing very quickly, and it's starting to show at
practice every day. I kind of want to introduce who
I brought with me today. I got Bradley Sims. He
plays the offensive line and defensive line for me. He's
an excellent guy that really really harps on his technique.

(01:46):
He plays hard every snap. He's a two way player,
which all these guys are at the smaller ball level.
You know, you got a lot of guys that go
both ways, and Bradley he really buys into that, buys
into his conditioning and strengths out of it. And we're
really anticipating him to be a major anchor for us
on the offensive and defensive fronts this year. I got

(02:07):
Braxing Wilson kind of mentioned him earlier. He's a do
it all guy for us. He returns, kicks, punts. He
feels like I said, he finished fifteenth over fifteen hundred
yards rushing twenty five touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Last year.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
I think all purpose yards had like twenty four hundred
yards all purpose with like thirty two touchdowns. Then on
defensive side, he finished with two interceptions and thirty tackles.
So there's a lot of guys that's looking for a
home at the next level, and he's one that I
think that really needs to get some looks. And he's
a playmaker. He knows how to make a play just natural.

(02:42):
And I'm really glad he's back. He'll be back for
his senior year. I know some things we play. He
thinks that he should have been graduated two years ago
since he's been playing with US so long, but bratxing,
he's done a really good job for US and expecting
a big year out of him. Next, we got the
youngster of the group, Aidan Jones. He'll be a sot
more this coming season. Uh. He plays defensive end and

(03:04):
linebacker for not defensive end in full bat for US.
Aidan as a freshman last year, finished with about sixty tackles.
He played majority on defense and also played some tight
end for US last year. So even though he's young,
he has a lot of starts under his belt and
he was on a team that made the playoffs for
the first time. In a long time last year, so

(03:25):
that that experience will go a long way for him.
And uh, he's he's a leader as well, and he's
he's helping this lead this young group that we have
with us going into next year. So I'm eager to
see how how the year turns out for him. And
then we got Carter Smith. He plays defensive end and
tight end for us. Uh, Carter was a newcomer last year.

(03:46):
Uh he had to play a lot of catchup last year,
learning the physicalities of the game and the techniques and
uh really getting his strength and speed right. So I've
been really pleased with with with Carter's progression as he's
went from last year to this year. You can really
tell a difference how much a year can make in
just experience. But kind of looking at an overall team

(04:07):
we are going to be on this year, like I said,
we graduated nine guys and so there's gonna be a
lot of younger guys stepping up ninth and tenth graders
that will be having to have a lot of playing
time on the offensive side and defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
So but I expect these.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Older players to really pull the slack right there and
make sure we're good to go when it comes game
time to play. Other than that, is there any questions?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Jared Bavaro with the High School Scoreboard show start starting
on the fourth game, your offense exploded. You guys average
your last eight game forty points a game. Was there
a change in philosophy or did you see some kids
mature or well?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Kind of looking at it last year, if you look
at our first three games, we played two state championship
teams in the first three and that that really made
the probably the biggest difference. I knew every year we're
gonna come in wanting to run the football, were wanting
to be fiscal, and I mean then first we played Sacks,
which was a real physical game and they're a classification

(05:19):
above us. And then you have two back to back
state champions in two weeks in a row, and both
of them have solid defenses.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
But the boys, they stuck with.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Me, and they knew what we were doing was good
and the right thing to do, and they really bought
into it and never wavered. So I really think that
and having more experience as you kind of get going
and working together, that kind of helped us Jail, especially
going towards the end of the year, I think we
scored fifty points two or three times. So I think
that that them just sticking with me and the leadership
pulling us the right way, that really made the biggest difference.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Hey, Coach Phillips, it's going on. Sam.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
You already talked about the nine seniors to party from
the team. I just it's a two part question, but
I wanted to ask how have you seen the young
guys acclimate to the speed of the varsity game, and
then also how have you seen your new seniors step
up in a leadership aspect.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, having just for instance, Parker White, he's probably gonna
have to end up starting for us at outside linebacker
this year, and he's kind of been working a lot
with the ones. And he was a ninth grader last
or he'll be a ninth grader this year, and so
that jump from playing junior high football to varsity football.
It's a major difference in the speed. But we kind
of done some things, especially going to like a couple

(06:28):
of seven or going to a seven on seven And
this year we'll be playing a jamboree to try to
help acclimate the younger guys to the speed of the
game because it is a lot faster.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
And there's a lot more going on.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
But the older guys, what I love about it is
all of them have really been playing a lot since
they was in about ninth or tenth grade as well,
so they have a lot of starts under the belt
and they are good mentors to these young guys. Is
getting brand new to the game and how the speed's
going to be. So I think that these older guys,
I mean Bradley, he started for He'll be a two
year starter now.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Braxson has been starting.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Since he was in ninth grade, played a lot as
the eighth grader. I Aden started as a freshman. Carter
has been starting ever since he joined the team. So
I mean there's a lot of guys that's like that
on this team, and they're gonna really be beneficial to
us to help these young kids learn how to prepare
for a game.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Every week, Coach Lit's let the men come up and
give us a word on what the off season has
been like, what your expectations are for the coming season.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Okay, my name, my name's Braxa Wilson. I played running
back in safety for Horse. You've been the off season.
You know, it has been It's been rough and good at
the same time. I mean, losing nine seniors, like coach
Philip said, is really not that good, and eight of
them played both ways on the wall, so like we

(07:44):
really just have to like step up in our shoes
and make plays and stuff. Our biggest expectation is to
go deeper in the playoffs. Like last year, our biggest
expectation was to make playoffs and we did that, and
this year is just to make it deeper in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah. My name is Bradley Sims. I play offense and
defensive line. We want to make it farther in playoffs
this year.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Last year we wanted to do like Breston said, and
we made it that far, and we just wanted to
make it a little farther this year.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
My name is Aidan Jones. I play fullback in the end.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
And this offseason we've all just gotten stronger and quicker
and just getting adjusted to the game. But this year
we're really just expecting more wins with a younger group,
just deeper running the playoffs. My name is Carter Smith.
I played tight end in Dan and the off season
I've been trying to learn the plays better because I
just started last year and this coming up season, I

(08:39):
want to make it farther than the playoffs and get
better
