Speaker 1 (00:00):
With basketball and a couple of weeks ago when we
had a few people on. But now it's time to
go to the Hambleton's Hotline. We're gonna go over to
Phoenix City this morning and talk a little Glenwood basketball.
Let's get a get our get our walk up music
going here. We love dog basketball, dust you do. The

(00:26):
head coach of Minwood Girls and Boys are live on
the Hambleton's Hotline. What's up, coach, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Good morning to y'all. Thanks for having me this morning.
It's good to talk to y'all again. The thing is,
there's an old school song to that and a new
school song to that. Yeah, and you went with it,
and you went with the old school for the old guy.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
I did. I did. I'm an old guy too. Now. Yes,
how's it going coach?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
It's going great, man, it's going great. Thank y'all again.
Like I said, thanks for having me, y'all. Great job.
I've kept up what you during football season. Y'all. Y'all
work about as hard as I do.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I ain't gonna lie y'all ready to thank you. We
try hard, we do, we try hard. Thanks for your comments.
We're glad to have you let's start with you girls.
Tell us about your girls, coach, tell's how we're doing well.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
We finally got her. You know, last year we had
a hersic injury in that first game with our point
guard over at Notasaga, and she broke her leg and
wasn't able to play all year. But we're so glad
to have Hallie Polmore back, our point guard. She's our
leading scorer. Uh, she does a little bit of everything
for us and just glad to have her back. We're uh,

(01:37):
we're four and four right now. We've played eight games already,
which is a lot of games since football goes on.
We probably played three to four games before football is over,
so the girls get a good head start. And you
know it's been up and down, but our schedule is
not easy either, so that point, it's all about playing
the competition that you can play, trying to get better

(01:58):
for the run and January and February. I mean, you've
been around long enough to know who we got to
compete against, and those are really really good themes, and
we're excited about playing. Emerson White is our second leading scorer.
We have a really good rebounding team. We got to
find a way to put it in the hole a
little bit more.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Okay, all right, so what you what you say your.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Record was at this time, coach four and four?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Four and four. I thought you said that. All right,
So did you have any girl y'all? Did y'all play
playing football? Or do you have them all in the beginning?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
No, sir, we don't. We will not. We're gonna implement
that next year. We're actually having tryouts in the spring,
I think, or and we're going to try to throw
flag football out there starting this next year.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Well, I was just making sure you hit all your
players because I know some of them that play, you know,
kind of went deep.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Do you feel good about your team, coach?

Speaker 2 (02:46):
I do. I do. We're gonna get better as we go.
I mean that I'm replacing four starters on both teams,
boys and girl. So but having her back to lead
that really helps that. And uh, you know, we're gonna battle,
We're gonna compete, and that's all I ask every night
is just compete and let's just see where we're at

(03:07):
in the fourth quarter and see if we can pull
one out.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Yeah, I see you fall a deer for your windsor
let's see Uh, yeah, I didn't do.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
My team any justice last week. I'm not gonna let
they were ready to slap on Friday night. They were ready.
Both teams were ready to slap me in the mount.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
And you got clumbs and you came over here, and
your girls like him pretty good, and there's always good
win for you.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
It was a really good win. And coach Smalley was
very nice to play US without some of his players
because of flag football, and he kept his schedule the
way it was, gave me some girls that normally don't
get to play a lot of minutes. And I'm not
afraid to say that. I mean, you know, at the
seven A program, he was missing some girls and that
makes a difference.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Oh it does, it does. But you double dipped them.
You got them twice.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
My point I did well, Yeah, play, I said, I
got them by a day. I see you. I played them.
I played them today before they played the last football game.
So I got really really lucky.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
I hate you're so humble because you're so humble. Any
other other girls you want to mention on that group?

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Coach? Oh yeah, let me just say, yeah, you know
my star, my starting five, Kaden Henderson has moved from
guard to post because she's grown several inches over the summer.
Lily Moody, Malia West, and chez Claire Hargrove. Those are
my six that I really play a lot, that play
really really hard for me. And then I got a

(04:34):
very young bench. I got some young girls coming off
the bench, and you know, hopefully that's good for the future.
But you know, we're we're in a stage right now
where we've had to h to replace some starters. Like
I told you, we lost four last year, and uh,
we're just trying to find a way to get back
on the court, play together, especially with our point guard
being backed. I'm really proud of these girls they've done.

(04:56):
They've worked really really hard.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
We just got to keep on working all right to
do with this head girls and Boys coach with Glenn Wood.
You're on the mark on Fox Sports nine ten, thirteenth
in the game coach, you got Elmore County tonight, and
then you got Lynette on the eleventh and Valley on
the sixteenth. That's a gauntlet right there, my man.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Well, like I told you, they don't love me very much.
Some teams don't right now. But hey, you know, we're
not playing the people that we used to. We're trying
to play the people that are around Good Point. They
want to play us and come to Glenwood. We want
to go there and play. And you know, you tip
the ball up and you see where you're at. And
not every not every game is going to be what

(05:33):
you want it to be. But you know you just
like I said, our area is Beulah, Least, Scott and
davill and that's who we're trying to get ready for
Inesuary in February, and just see, our goal is to
go one step farther each year as we start this journey.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
No, it's no doubt that's what you got to do.
Those those those three games, six games and in that
area really there air tournaments what you got to do.
But that's right, that's right all R. Let's switch over
to you boys coach. Tell us about your boys team.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Well, like I said, Braylen Alexander leads everything that we do.
He's the freshman phoenom. I guess you can call him that.
I finally got me a shooter. You know, I'm like
it is and they know each other really really well.

(06:20):
I mean I'm feeling like William did when he got
hating back freshman in the eighth grader. This kid is
the number one ranked freshman in the state of Alabama
in many categories as far as travel basketball and basketball.
He's averaging right at thirty points a game. Right now,
we're two and three and we're just our team knows

(06:43):
who the ball needs to go to. It's just we're
trying to figure out how to play with him. Not
as big a lineup as I've had in the past.
I don't really have a true big man anymore. I'm
I'm playing a little bit like William Right now. We're
playing with four or five guards. We're shooting a little
more than we have in the past, and we're running
up down the floor a little bit more in the past. Uh.

(07:04):
We played three really good teams last week in chack
Co Deer, Phil Windsor, and UH you Follow, which is
a six day program we were in. We were in
two of the two of those games on Friday, Thursday
and Friday and had a chance, but we made some
turnovers and did come out with a win. But the
thing was we were competing and we had a chance.

(07:27):
But Braylan is gonna be He's an unbelievable player, unbelievable athlete.
He's fourteen years old. I remember that sometimes. And six
this is Earl Alexander's son.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I remember that now.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Coach played in Central and went to Alabama and played
for Nick Saban. This kid is a great athlete. Everybody
knows about him. Uh. People we've already played are throwing
two people at him when we come down the court.
So I mean he's gonna earn all his I'll go
ahead and tell you we just got to find a

(08:02):
way to play with him. And those guys are Tyler
and Trey Clarity, the brothers that played football great Garner
who is their cousin who's in the start? And five
see Y Phillips is another starter. With Aaron Carter only
playing ten this year, de mars ten guys on the
basketball team, and they better all figure it out because

(08:22):
they're all gonna get a chance to be thrown into
the fire really really early.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah. I see that. I hear that. So I got
shooter two point Oh Alexander, that's what I got, right, Shooter.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Hey, I hope he turns out as good as that
other shoo.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
I am proud of Shooter, no doubt. I am proud
of shooters, let.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Me say that. Yes, kay, so proud of that kid.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Hate Harper talking about everybody. Let me make sure hating Harper.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah, let me And you know, so proud of him
that he got his dream of playing Division one. He's
getting a chance to play Division one basketball. Uh. He
has worked that hard to get there. I got an
inform invitation to his signing and I couldn't. I couldn't
make it that day because we had a middle school
game going on here and I needed to be here.

(09:09):
But uh, I just couldn't get over there that day.
We had I can't remember exactly what was going on,
but I'm just ticking for him. Uh, you know, getting
a chance to play against him, it's always fun. Uh.
Kudos to coach Johnson and his staff and his team
for the big win that they had the other night.
I heard that place was rocking. I bet it was

(09:30):
packed out. It was packed out, and uh, you know
that's good for us little men, us little men to
have a chance to beat the big guy.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Oh it was no doubt, Hayten harpery Siwarich for that's
what coach is talking about. And of course they beat
Auburn last Friday night over at sant for Jim, which
was a huge win. You're so classy to mention Hayden Shooter.
He's he's a sharp kid. I love that boy.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
And now he's got a coach. He's got a good
program and got a good thing going on over there.
You know it'll be tough to it'd be tough to
play them this year, but we always look forward to
that rival. Always a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
No doubt you do. You hold your own, coach. You're
mighty classy man. It's good to talk to you. Will
Shoe for this every Tuesday? Is that good?
