Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm to go to the Hamilton's hotline talk a little football,
(00:02):
high school football. The Auburn High School had football coach
Keith Etheridge is on the Hamilton's Hotline. Hamilton says two
locations to serve you. There are locations on Magnolia and
Ogle Tree downtown, of course, and on the outskirts of Auburn.
Two restaurants, one name, same menu, incredible food. Hamilton's on Magnolia.
Auburn coach Keith Etheridge is live on the Hamilton's Hotline,
(00:25):
plays a I believe a Thursday night game this week? Coach?
Is that right? No? No, no, no on hold on
no no, who put Thursday out somewhere?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
That's the Moode schedule Thursday.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
I was like, I know, boy, thank you coach. Good morning.
You went no, no, no, no, no no no, no, yes, sir,
what's happening?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
I ain't ain't nothing, brother, Get a little practice in
you guys, get after it this morning, good enjoying, live
good Uh, get ready playing ball game on Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Good deal. I got coach Wilson, Coach Barfield, coach and
coach Sassar in here today again again.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
You got the Hall of Fame got the.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Hall of Fame crew and Jeff and me in here.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
You just you just have a couple of pictures put
on the wall.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
That could be the Hall of Fame right there, you go,
there you go. We're thinking about getting some bus made
bronze bust that worked.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Hey something. The guys probably got some bronze bust up
them somewhere.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
They did. They did good win last week. Coach, you
disposed of Jag the way you're supposed to, Yes, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
We played really good, had a fifty sticks nothing the
lead at halftime, and you know, got a lot you
got to play those young guys that second half and
you know, just just get those guys some experience and
uh had a little running clock second half, so got
done a little early. So, you know, just our guys
did a really good job of putting some pressure on
(01:54):
them for some to do some things that they didn't
want to do. We got some turnovers, got some quick scores.
We worked with a short field like all night probably
you know, I think there was one time that we
had seventy plus yard field and we threw a seventy
four yard touchdown on that place on the first place.
So you know, played really good the other night. You know,
(02:16):
so I'm really really excited about getting out there this
week playing a really good Moody football team. You know,
they've got a lot of talent. I think they got
four or five Power five guys on their wow. So yeah,
they're loaded, and they got you know, they got them
on offense too. I mean receivers, all of them are
really fast and can can really go to Doser kids
(02:39):
special kids number one. They've got a lot of weapons,
a whole lot of weapons.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, they're really.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Good football team. Playing in the state championship five day
last year. Yeah, they're they're better this year they were
last year.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
So when he's talking about Moody, they lost their opening
the games with forty nine to seventeen. Then they've beaten
every Alabama school. They've beatn Oxford thirty one seven, Jacksonville
forty two twenty one, Saint Clair County fifty six zero,
and last week bill in A thirty one twenty eight.
Their coaches Jank Gainnis, Jake Gainnis, excuse me, he's done
a good job. Thirty five and nine since he's been there,
(03:17):
they had won eleven games in the previous administration. He's
won ten, ten, eleven, and now four in three and
a half years, he's done a superb job of this program.
There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, they got a lot of a lot of new
faces there. You know, I got a I've got a
kids play for me that coaches there. Clara Marshall. He
was he was like quarterback for four years when I
was at least you know, started every game for me.
Sometimes walked in as a freshman. This time he left
his sing wow two stamp played in three state championships,
(03:49):
one twos MVP of state championship games. Awesome young man.
You know, just can't say enough about him. And you
know he's going to be a heck of a he is,
but he's gonna be one of those coaches that you
know it'll be a head coach one day. And you
know he's a great young man.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Good all right, What kind of what do they do? Coach? Obviously,
they got a good team.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
They're spread, they're spread. They you know, you know they're
gonna they're gonna defenses multiple you know, they run a
couple of different things defensively. You know, they've got a
lot of a whole lot of talent. Man, I mean,
they've got they've got more talent than probably seen since
since the Booker game, you know, the first year. You know,
so a lot of talent. Uh there there there. Uh
(04:34):
They're they're big upfront. Uh. You got a two kids
on the interior defensive line that have powerful offers. Once
committed to West Virginia. I think one's Cincinnati or something
like that. Uh the linebackers committed Alabama and he's just
a junior. Uh got a corner I think that. Uh
that's got Tennessee offers and stuff like that. So they're
(04:56):
very very talented, very very talented team men of.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
My MinC Cofft sound like they are. And uh what
about your team, coach, You've you've steadied the ship here.
You had a had a tough you know, tough. You
hadn't had an easy go coach, you know what I mean.
You had a tough Yeah, you had a tough game
with Booker the opener. I mean you won the game.
Sound you had a tough game Investavia, real tough game
with Oplika. You you were in control the enterprise. But
(05:20):
it wasn't no cush game, you know what I mean?
And you you did have a cush game last week.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, there ain't no. And our schedule too, you know,
we've got well our schedule. All of our non region
games are tough, you know, all of our regias are tough.
You know. You know we of course we controlled the
game against uh JAG last week. You know, but there
ain't no there's no there's no games where you're gonna
go out there. You just roll out the ball and
(05:47):
you just play, and you know you expect to win.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
You Yeah, and as a fan coach not interrupted, I
felt like you were in control the Enterprise game, but
you were until it was a two score game. You
were one fumble or one run away from being tied up.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
You know, oh, absolutely absolutely, well, you're not gonna go
out there and play I mean, you think about I
mean Enterprise last week. It was a one score game
with about two and a half minutes last going into
the halftime against against Central Phoenix and they turned the
ball over. Yeah, you know, sort of, I mean, and
then it's sort of snowballs a little bit. But you know,
I mean, this region is no joke. Yeah, So you're
(06:24):
gonna play somebody good every week, and you better come
ready to play because if you if you don't. You're
gonna get deep.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah you are, Coach Wilson, you want to coach. I'm
just curious. Coach Ballfield and I when we coached against
Montgomery schools, it wasn't like it is now. What has
happened now? Man?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I think those I think those guys have migrated to
one certain schools, you know. I think JAG loses guys
to to Carver and Pipe Road and places like that. Yeah,
Prattville a good point. I think some of those guys.
So some of those guys migrate to to the better,
to to the schools that are that are doing well
(07:04):
right now, you know. So it makes it, It makes
it tough, you know, because you have those teams, you
have those things like Jag, like Percy, Julie and some
of those teams who are struggling right now, and you
have teams like Carver and and Pipe Road who are
doing real well right now. You know, it's just kind
of hit or miss, you know. And right now you know,
(07:26):
Carver's Carver and Pipe Roller on the hot hands over
and they are, you know. And now you take last year,
you know, Montgomery Catholic, A lot of guys were there.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
I think there it is exceeded now.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Over there look for good.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah they are, but go ahead.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Coach, they got talented group. But you know, kids, you
know nowadays, what the way things are, you know, they'll
jump and go over and you know it ain't like
it used to be, you know, and I wish it was,
because you know, you got the you know, the small
schools are the ones getting hurt.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah, coaches talking about that earlier.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Almost I'm coming from. You know, I spent the majority
of my career coaching three and four A football and
you know, having kids who are who are there at
your school and they stay there and their their family's
names known there. I mean I coached the Roses in
the Roses in Leeds. You know, they're known by everybody.
You say Leeds and you say Roads, Everybody's like, oh
(08:36):
they got there's some good football players in that family.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
You know. You you wish it was like that, you know,
but the way things are now, they'll they'll they'll jump
out and go somewhere.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Well, I'm gonna tell you something. I think you answered
the Montgomery question about as honest as he could. Do
you agree that, I think so? I think that I
was telling Mark earlier, I heard some commentary about some
parents now and a half well upset about the athletic programs.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
In some of that schools.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, well, coach, let me ask you this for you
answer that coaches parents.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
That they have if they have the ability to back
up and move and give their give their kid a
better choice, better, better opportunity, you know, why not? You
can't call them, caught them. You know, I've had I've
had kids move in here. My first question is you
know why you moving?
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Usually they're they're like, well, it's a great school system. Academics,
you know, athletics you know, yeah, the facilities you know.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
So safety safety. Let me ask you this too. And
I mean it's coach more even I even talk with him.
Do you know who every coach is in Montgomery? Every year?
They change so often? Isn't it difficult to keep up
with some of those guys? Coach, And I'm being honest,
is it not?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
It is?
Speaker 1 (09:52):
See, you don't even know who's going to be the coach.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I'll have I'll have I'll have a coach's name in
my phone. I'll call for or reason purposes or something
like that. And if you know about the last two
or three years. It's like, well, I'm not coaching there anymore.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
See you take one step, go ahead. Montgomery is good.
I don't even know who the next superintendent. That's a good.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
But I've heard I mean, he done that. But I've
heard him and other coaches go, well, I call so
and so. He ain't even coach there anymore, you know,
coach and happened to coach more And he didn't mean
it like it's.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
No, absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
I don't know it as a media.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Personal Yeah, yeah, you don't mean it in a negative way. No,
you know, those those kids look for stability, you know. Yeah,
I just want stability. Yeah, you know, I mean this
is this is my this is my fifth year. I
was gonna say, yeah, you know. So, I mean everybody
knows if if they're gonna call Auburn High School, they're
gonna talk to coach. Yeah. When I was at Leeds,
(10:53):
I was there for ten years, so everybody knew they
called Lee they're gonna talk to coach there you go.
And it's it's hard. It's hard having programs if you
can't have stability, you know, because like I said, you know,
people they'll pick up mood Yeah, feel like their kid
has their kid has a better opportunity somewhere else. You know,
(11:14):
they'll pick up money, Yeah, they will. You think about
think about my son? My son three times? Yeah, four times?
But tis all yeah, yep, we'll leads Pell City.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
I mean I forgot about Peale City, Sorry about that? Yeah,
got about Bell City at R Miller Miller Yeah yeah, yeah,
but that was you better than their self too, now, coach,
that was you better than yourself as a career. That's right, yeah,
which happens to kids too, now other kids.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Parents, Yeah, well kids, parents move some opportunities, job opportunities
and a lot of different things.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Good point.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
You can't blame you can't blame them for that, you.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Know you can't. All right, real quick on Moody and
your team, how have you handled this week, coach, how's
your team in rolling?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
It's good, you know, we we we've we've got a
couple of guys banged up that we we don't know
if they're gonna play, so we'll we'll, we'll. It's's kind
of be some game time decision and stuff, and you know,
going through the reasons schedule. I mean, we played Opaca Enterprise. Yes,
that's two really tough games. But it was a tough game.
(12:16):
Best Stable was a tough game. Like you said, you know,
all those those four games were really rugged, and we
got to rest some guys this week. But it's it's
kind of funny because you know, you get a lot
of times and you ask Coach Barfield and all those
because with all those guys, a lot of times you
get guys banged up more in those games where those
big lead crazy.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yeah, when you're not even really thinking you're deserting that much.
That's a good point, a very good point. This game.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Kids are gonna go out. They're gonna play hard all
the time. Yeah, that's the great thing. They're going out
and they're playing hard all the time. Yeah, they're laying
it all out there. It don't matter who we're playing there.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
You go, well this y'all didn't get to play this
game last year. I just thought about that, did you.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Yeah, which was playing on Thursday? That hurt through, you know.
I tried to talk them in, yeah, yeah, but they
they they said they had something going on Friday. I
even talked about playing on Saturday or movies. Yeah, because
they were open we were open, but it just didn't happen.
Uh they were, they were, they had some other things
(13:19):
going on during those times, so you know, it was
just you know, we just gotta we didn't get it.
We get to play that game and it did did
did kind of sing for my seniors, you know, play
a game, but just didn't work out. But they're coming
down here this year. You know, I think they got
a better team, you know, this year. I think they're
they're really good. I think that. Uh, like I said,
(13:41):
they got a lot of players, and uh, we better
be ready to play their team. Their team, they I mean,
they they it's not that they can't only beat you.
They get they will blow you out there.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
You go, I know you'll be ready, coach, Thank you
very much.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Guy.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Oh go ahead, Oh I know they do. I'll see
it most tonight, oach.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
All right, we appreciate you, sir, God bless y'all.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yes, sir, go tigers. Keith E.
