Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sports News. You can he's going to the Hamilton's outline, James,
(00:03):
We're busy this time a year. We're going to Birmingham,
the Alabaster area, somewhere in there to bring in our
every Tuesday correspondence from BAMA Preps lad Ballasuit. Good morning, Blad,
Good morning guys.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Game week, Game week.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
I was waiting on you to get fired up. You
fired up? Now that's better.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Who are you looking at something to get some energy
in the morning.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I know, I know, I know who who were looking
to go fire up. There's a lot of games. You're
coming to the O opening week. How about that?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
That? I am? Yeah? And I was actually uh in
the uh in the ar or or in the b
R this week. Really Yeah, went out to Benjamin Russell.
But yeah, like I said before, it'll be Thompson and
Carver on Thursday, and it'll be up like a Ben
Russell on Friday. And I got a chance to get
(00:53):
out to Ben Russell and uh, I hit up the
Oak Mountain Oxford scrimmage game, the Paul Jamboree as well
last week.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Okay, all right, let's go to Benjamin Russell.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
What they look like, Well, they've got this this grown
man at wide receiver names the Darien Morgan and it
says six y three, but it's probably sixty four. I mean,
I mean he is he looks like I mean, he
looks like a Division one football receiver. And you can
(01:23):
tell with everybody else on that team. They've got some playmakers.
They've got Elijah Johnson, who was their quarterback last season.
They might run him at safety. I'm not sure where
they're gonna put him. They can move him around a
little bit. They've got a nice running back duo. They've
got DJ Bedgood, who is a part of the Montgomery
(01:44):
Catholic state title winning team. And they've got newly crowned
four star quarterback twenty twenty eight quarterback Kingston Prayar who
also moved over from Catholic, Kirk Johnson and Kirk Johnson.
I mean, how could you forget We've talked about them
all off season. They look good. The offense looks good.
(02:08):
I have questions about their offensive line play. They're not
as big as you know, what you'd expect from a
contending six A, but they've got the offensive playmakers where
I think it just makes up for it.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Man. Interesting, Interesting, all right, so anything that you plan
to see you think, you know, obviously, do they does
he do anything besides they throw it, they running some
in the back. They just pitch it to him short,
long what do they do?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
So it really seems like they just use him in
a traditional extracy receiver role. They've got other guys that
really play the slot roles, you know, play the gadget
role whatever it may be for a receiver. But Sadarian wise,
I mean, they don't they don't really move him around.
(02:56):
But I guess you never know, you know, just seeing
what Kurt's gonna do. I know that he you know
in the past. You know, for what I saw in
the in the state championship game last year, they were
pretty much the same when they played Moody. They didn't
need to change it up. The talent spoke for itself.
(03:17):
So we'll see if they have to go to anything
else here, you know. Now up in six A, you know,
playing with the big.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Boys there you go, all right, Timmy, what you went
to a screamage? Who did you see? Blad VAALSI, by
the way, with Bama Preps, you're on the mark talking
high school football up in the Birmingham area. You meant
Oak Mountain? Is that where you went?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
No, let's go.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Let us go to my buddy Mark Freeman and Carver Thursday.
Tell me about that game.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Oh yeah, so Thompson, this was supposed to be the
Grayson game. Earlier in the offseason, it seemed like Thompson
would be going out to Georgia week one, but they
moved some things around. Grayson had an opening Week two,
Carver had an opening Week one, and it made sense.
I'll tell you the Carver's playing Fairland week ten, Thompson
(04:04):
week one, and they've got all of Region two to
play through. I mean, they have a murderous row of
opponents for Mario White's first year. And yeah, it starts
with coach Freeman's Warriors. I don't expect this game to
be too close. Maybe in the first quarter. Carver's certainly
got talent, but you know, you're replacing a quarterback, a
(04:28):
running back, receivers, offensive lineman. Not to mention, you have
a new system with a head coach that hasn't coach
in a few years. And when he did, it was
Aisa ball with Pike Liberal Arts. So you know, we'll
have to see how that whole team meshes together for
Carver and Thompson's got to get as much tune up
(04:48):
as they can before they go to Georgia and play Grayson.
Grayson just beat Collins Hill, which is another one of
the top teams over there, fifty one to three in
week zero. So it's you know, it's it's it's gonna
be really interesting to see how Thompson goes from this
(05:09):
game to the game against you know, six A Georgia,
you know, defending state champion.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
You mean that to have my bike, I think they'll
be just fine. You do too, I'm pretty sure, yea,
all right, he'll lose a game early in the year
sometimes and then, but they'll certainly get better at and
make sure it doesn't happen at the end of the year,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Right, and and and it happened with the Whipscomb Academy
games years back when I tend to see. It happened
to the Buford game. You know, hey, it even happens
for the clay Shock game. You know, with it being
non region, you might not want to show everything. And
you know, just I don't want to say protect your guys,
(05:54):
but you know, certainly, you know, don't put everything on
tape those games, especially early season.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah. Yeah, Rush is back. It's official CUSA Central. How
about that?
Speaker 2 (06:06):
That's right? You talked to him, de Mar didnt?
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yes, I did. I did last week.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah. I think Kuso will be two A state champions.
I think Rush will get him another one. You know,
pretty interesting to think about a twenty year gap between
state titles for Rush, Probs and and and the journey
he's been on, you know, ever since his departure from
Hoover High School. Yeah, finding his way back to Alabama
(06:34):
with Cousa Christian going to pel City, you know, everything
that happened there and coming back now. And you know
he's got some absolute talent on that football team. But
by Kylan Johnson, the four star athlete, you know, this
isn't a Cousa team that's a bunch of you know,
cornfread two A country boys that are gonna run wishbu. No,
(06:54):
this is a modern offense with talent and you know,
Jerry still lit if anybody can match that in Class
two A real town. You know, they do a lot
of similar stuff as far as you know, being a
more traditional spread offense. And you know, I wouldn't be surprised,
(07:15):
as I mentioned, you know a few shows ago d
Mark if it isn't you know KUSA in real town
in Birmingham for another state title. You know.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
That's that's unique. He said he had twenty plus players.
Woun't jiff, so he must have he must have some
players amongst those. You know he had twenty four. I
think I saying two passions, they're going on two fifteen
passenger van, Yeah, thirty. He must have some quality players.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
They they they had, they had some players last year.
I remember getting out to the fifth game when they
won twenty nine to two. And the only reason, you know,
if I've scored obviously off of the safety, that would
have broken Fights scoring streak where they've scored it. I
(08:06):
think in every game since the early two thousand. I'll
have to fact check myself there, but Fight has I
think the longest scoring streak in the AHSA right now,
and Kus almost broke it last season.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah, but you know it's obviously huge news or wherever
Rush goes. And I also I heard the Mark Columbia
High School up in Huntsdal is going to be getting
a documentary made about them to hear about this. You know,
the team ninety one games in a row they've lost.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Yes, they I don't know if it's going to be Netflix,
but something sponsored by Gatorade.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
They're going to be. You know, Sammy Coates obviously over
there down by your neck of the woods, played at
you know, University of Auburn, became a police officer in Auburn.
You know, former NFL wide receiver is going to be
the head coach. So you got Rush up there in
the north and now you got Sammy up there in
Huntsville trying to you know, break the longest losing streaks
(09:11):
in the country for our high school. Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
That's tough, you know what I mean. That's that's that's
real tough. Well, we got some good games around here.
Auber's got Booker out of Florida, Miami, don't We don't
know where they're out of, I said, Miami. Yeah, that's right,
I don't know anything about that. Munch coach said, they
got some athletes.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
They're down there. Yeah, they're down there. Yeah, I know.
I know. You guys got the Booker game, you know, Prattville,
Pike Road, the Kickoff Classic, which we were talking about
before between you know Granger and and you know Bobby's
first year at Prattville. We'll have to see how that goes.
That's certainly going to be a game in our pick'em
(09:52):
that we do on our page on Instagram. You know,
just just looking at some of the other Thursday games
that are going to be played, fair Hope and Spanish
Sport will play Gaston City and Muscle Shoals. A big
one in the Birmingham area played at Legion Field will
be Parker and Ramsey. You know, interesting to see what
(10:13):
Parker will look like this season. Without Naim Offered the
Oregon defensive back and Timothy Merritt, the Tennessee defensive back.
They're going to have to get some guys to step
up in that offense, as well as Dylan Reese, who
was their quarterback last season. Five Maplesville will be the
(10:35):
kickoff classic game on Friday at the twenty second, so
we'll have to see. You know, who coached Benifield over
there with a big read machine is annointed as the
backfield leader, you know, the replaced Logan Anderson, the Clemson linebacker. Now, wow,
so it's it's here.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
You know, it is any dark horses you got going
all the way? Do you want to tell us about
before we start?
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Oh, I don't know about all the way this year?
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Or just give me some dark dark I was impressed
with Oak Mountain went out to their fall jamboree this
past Friday, and you know, they've got a really good
running back there, Marty Myricks.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
And they've got a defensive back who's probably one of
the best safeties in the country. He came over from
Palm Desert or Desert Palm. I forget which high school
they're head coach Shane McComb is that from California, But
Jaden Aparicio Bailey is his son, and he came over
(11:42):
with him from California. Now at Oak Mountain was injured
most of last season, and he's rated a four star
or above by every single recruiting service, and the state
just just hasn't found out about him yet because of
his injury. I think Oak Mountain is gonna be a
team knocking on the door of playoff contention. They'll be
(12:05):
right there with the Bastavia Hills and Prattville is the
Region three, uh, and you know, I think they've got
a good chance to get over to Hump this year.
They looked good, especially against you know, a semifinals six,
a semifinals team in Oxford last season.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
You nailment. You've got a bunch out there. There's a
bunch laying out there, and we got a bunch of
teams in our neck of the woods too, Glad. And
I know you'll maybe get in touch with Eddie on
the scoreboard nights. But anything else you want to throw
out before we go, man that much.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
We will have a new podcast episode out hopefully the weekend,
uh this weekend after all of the games. Looking to
get that out weekly. And man, I'm just just ready
to be back. We've got two more days and you
know high school football is kicking off.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
They go you up and around Saturday morning to me
and Jeff call. You can get you on our Saturday
show eight nine. You can be up that morning Saturday.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
